Blackpool was, for the longest time, the only bastion remaining where trams operated in the Uk between the end of the Tram Era in the 1960s and the beginning of the reintroduction phase that started in the 1990s! So how did the Trams in Blackpool survive and what are the future plans for the tram network in Blackpool? As always thanks for reading and have a great day!

Blackpool is the best place to see old trams as well new trams. Not to mention the Blackpool Tower and Blackpool Pier.

A nice and concise video. Factually correct, but a few corrections of pronunciation needed perhaps. Bispham is pronounced Bisp ham. (It was Bishcopham originally. The village where the Bishop of Blackburn lived). Gynn.is pronounced like Lyn, not like mother's ruin. Lol. ( It's a shortened version of ginnel, or a narrow passage, as originally that is what it was. A passage through the sandhills.) And Poulton Le Fylde is not pronounced Poulton le Flyde. It is Fylde.( It's Viking for Field.) And perhaps not so much of the "attrocious weather conditions" please. I admit it's not going to rival The Bahamas any day soon, but you make out it's somewhere behind Antarctica and it simply isn't. And the Tramway mostly survived due to the vast majority of the surviving promenade route being segregated from the road, so that it didn't interfere with road traffic, which was one of the main reasons nearly all the others went, though there were usually other factors involved too. Also it's tourist potential and as you correctly state, the introduction of the OMO cars in the seventies, when it was on a knife edge. The first trams to North station ran on test just last week and all seemed to go well. And technically, there are THREE classes of tram. A fleet are the new Bombardier Flexity 2's. B fleet are around ten converted 1930's Balloon double deckers that can augment the Flexity fleet if required and go to any stop. C fleet are the heritage trams which can only pick up and set down at a few seperate special heritage stops. Hope this is useful. Many thanks.

Info is always welcome, thanks for the kind words. It's great to get some clarification over the different fleets as well! As for the pronunciation I'd always expected to get some wrong as it's pretty hard to find accurate info on that sort of stuff, but it's great to have some corrections so I get it right if I make any new videos. As for the weather's conditions and separation, you're definitely right for them being key reasons it survived, I always try to keep up with the comments because eventually they get enough views that people more knowledgeable than myself can correct or provide more info. Anyways, hope you've had an Great Day.

@@Thoroughfare Many thanks for your kind words. Absolutely no problem at all sir. I always try to assist if I can, as I have never had any issues myself with criticism as long, ( as I hope mine was,) that it is CONSTRUCTIVE criticism,or correction. Yes had a great day thanks. Hope you have too. Cheers.

TBH Blackpool kept its trams partly cause the promenade was extented & purpose built to keep them seperate from the road, like all other places, the inner routes were axed cause of upgrading costs & like everywhere else they got in the road of the more flexible car & bus.

Can I make a suggestion for later videos? When talking about places to add text and a marker for that place on screen because for a local I'm sure they get where some place is but to others its fairly meaningless. I enjoy your video, especially the northern focus.

Where is the Central Drive route?

It no longer exists. It was the first to close. Sometime in the late twenties from memory.
