I’m not for one second implying I’m a great mechanic but this is basic stuff isn’t it. It’s the same around where I am. All they want to do is get it out of the door quickly and get on with discs and pads. No one is prepared to diagnose anything. It’s the reason that we all have a bad name. Extremely frustrating

When my brother had this on his mondeo. Ford quoted an air flow meter and dpf as the cause = $9000aud = muppets. I got involved. The dpf was blocked technically. But the back of the car was covered in soot. So i removed the dpf and flushed it. 5% flow to 98%. Then checked over. Car was over fueling and oil leaking from the front bar. Last I checked, there wasn't anything holding oil in the bumper = boost hose was torn =airflow meter fault and oil leak! Then after a week of driving. Dpf was struggling again with regen unable = blocked fuel vapouriser as you have. If we followed ford. We would have been $9000 in the hole before the intercooler hose and vapouriser would have even been investigated, let alone, found. BTW, i removed the glow plug and cleaned the vapouriser in a zip lock bag filled with intake cleaner. Put into an ultrasonic bath = spotless and running strong another 100k km later.

And this is why I do my own maintenance as garages either don't know how to fix the cars they sell or don't give a damn, or more likely, want to rip off unsuspecting punters by unnecessarily putting in new parts. My mother thought she heard a scraping noise from a wheel and brought her car to a local garage last year when I had covid and couldn't help. They told her the noise from her rear wheel was a bearing. I told her to leave it until I was better so I could have a look at it. So I did and was it the bearing???? No it was the dust shield at the back of the brake caliper that was rubbing on the disc. I pushed it back into shape and hey presto, noise gone. Saved her the 300 quid they wanted for a new bearing fitted......which in itself was a monumental rip off.

My boss, an undertaker, had a Vauxhall Vivaro with the same issue. It came back after an MOT and would not go over 30 mph. It had done 79000 miles, and only ever lightly loaded. The garage said it would cost £1300 to fix, so he got rid of it and bought a Mercedes van instead. Modern diesels, with so many of these gadgets fitted, are a damn nuisance.

Vapouriser being fitted today so will be £2500 spent, I’ve spent the whole value of the van and no faith it’ll solve it. @@ORileysAutos Agreed. I've moved and have had to try THREE different garages for various fixes 1. HP power steering replacement (they ordered the wrong part initially but still charged me for the wrong part and the correct one) 2. P0299 which the garage recommended turbo rebuild (didn't fix the problem AND they never replaced the turbo gaskets so now have an exhaust leak) 3. An AC recharge but they never checked if there were leaks in the system before filling the car up and charging me. Simple issues that could have all been avoided if each of the three mechanics just took a little pride in their work the way that you clearly do. It seems to be the reason for most breakdowns these days with people having problems with the Particulate Filter system and it's sensors. I few years ago looking around for a family car I bumped into an old school friend at a car sales place, he now has his own garage and was looking for a small car for his wife, he told me that there was a ford C-Max at the back that had been sold a few times but returned, he told me it should be £4,000 but they will take £1,000 sold as seen. What wrong with it was that it had a block EGR (exhaust gas recycling) valve, I asked my friend how easy was it to repair, the official way is about at £1,000, the unofficial is £10. So I paid the garage £1,000 and my friend and I fitted a thick blanking plate to the EGR valve and he turned the amber check engine light off and it ran perfectly and drove well for a car with only 55,000 miles on the clock, I put it through it's MOT and got told by the testing station that it's emissions levels where lower than standard. When it got to 125,000 miles, a neighbour offer me a £1,000 when I mentioned I was thinking of getting a newer car, so sold it him a few weeks later the turbo went on it so we when to the scrap yard and found an identical one off a very low mileage Mondeo and helped him to fit it, the C-Max is now up to 150,000, and still running well and passing it's MOT.

Depends but at some point, yes, the ash buildup that can't be burnt off remains stuck and needs to be cleaned out, or DPF replaced.
@MiracleMitch
@MiracleMitch Год назад
It used to be the case but now as long as the DPF has not overheated and the filter inside not melted it will survive several cleans and therefore no longer needs replacing after 100k or 150k (my VW TDI has a 150k DPF replacement recommendation or sooner if the ash content is at a certain saturation level). No reason why a periodically cleaned DPF should not last the life of the car / van if well maintained. Like all parts, age can cause wear and tear and reduced efficiency and replacement may be the only option in such cases.

We are looking to have a New Transit soon but having difficulty getting a 170PS with the Vehicle Configuration we need at a viable price - but we can get a 130PS to our Vehicle Configuration Spec- So just considering having a New Vehicle Mapped to 170PS or more if not detrimental to the longevity of the Engine.

Not many people in the auto mechanic world who know what they're doing any more, most of the "specialists" are ex-dealership technicians who've never worked on anything less than 5 years old, and where serious problems got shipped out to external contractors, all they're taught is to plug in a diagnostic machine, follow a set of instructions and replace a predefined list of parts. I was trying to get coil springs replaced on my car recently, I must of called 8 difference garages, most wouldn't quote and two told me they didn't have the right equipment for the job. I've seen people do it on RU-vid, with nothing but a trolley jack and a 15mm socket.............. Seems like nobody wants to do the heavy/tough/dirty jobs any more.

Geez, ford still uses fifth injector regeneration strategy ? we've mocked their engineers for a full straight day for making euro 6 out of euro 3 by simply burning fuel like crazy at customer expense and they still didn't learn :/ for dpf issues: 1. make sure to use ACEA C2 / C3 / C4 engine oil, that will drastically extend the life of DPF by not producing sulphur ash - however a off vehicle clean would clean it up. 2. make sure that thermostats are in order - to low coolant / oil temp may prevent ECU from triggering regeneration AT ALL. 3. make sure your pressure / temp sensors on dpf are in order - regeneration requires bare minimum of 620C, if ECU thinks that temp is 640C but in reality it's 600, there will be no regeneration what so ever. 4. make sure your injectors are clean, the injector seals are not leaking, common rail pressure is in order - that will give you bad spray and very smoky output clogging up dfp quickly 5. make sure that your air intake charge pipes are not leaking and relates sensors (maf / map) measure correctly as this will give smoky output clogging up dfp quickly Now if you reeeeeaaaaalllllyyy feel in the mood for crazy vehicle mods, you can buy your self exhaust insulating glass-fibre tape and insulate exhaust manifold + turbo + piping to dpf along with dpf. On normal driving that shall increase dpf temp by 30 - 70C lowering ECU need to use fuel to boost the exhaust temp. Also make sure that all the exhaust joints are not leaking any fumes (even the turbo VNT / waste gate arm can exhaust leak pressure) - that pressure drop will cost you dpf temp making ecu squirt even more fuel to heat up the dpf.

@tommybronze3451
@tommybronze3451 Год назад
@@alexbrown1050 Cheers buddy. if that ended up at the top ford would knock on YT door to take it down 😉 But hey, if it will make you day any better - Ford UK gives significant incentives to their engineers and managers to buy fords (so they beta test the cars and report directly to them rather than raising stick) and when we were trying to negotiate an agreement with ford for giving us tools to tinker with their ECU because we were buying their engines on pallets - ALL of their engineers showed up to the meeting in bmw’s (and I thrown that in their face as well). Actually the whole meeting was a train wreck where they were mocking us (their customers) and we just gave up with politeness and started to piss all over their engineering skills and trust in their own work. Only worse meeting I had was with audi about their ecu, but now I know why they didn’t want us to access their ecu’s internals (cough … diesel gate … cough)

I said if you can’t fix it for a fair price , just charge me for diagnostic and I cut my loses to sell to wbac ! So after a bill of £1450:, garage said it’s definitely your turbo , just spend another £1600 and we will fix ! Fookin robin crooks !

I sure do wish you was here in Inverness to do mine as mine blocked up as a machanic back home in Bradford fitted a cheap £16 crank sensor and sent me on my way with the lights on saying it would be fine, just bought and fitted a proper sensor from vauxhall at £182 and all the lights went out immediately so just ordered a DPF from a company down Leicester but sure wish you was here

I recently changed my vaporiser on my MK8 Transit 2.2 RWD thanks to your videos. It was really easy. My OBDII tool didn't have an option to prime the vaporiser thought, but it`s done a few regen`s whilst driving since so I know it`s working. Differential pressure is around 7 at idle now.

Hey mate, I've got a Nissan navara 2.5 diesel that had a very leaky turbo. I've replaced it but now the dpf is blocked and is in limp mode. Is my only choice taking it somewhere to have a forced Regen done or would I can of dpf cleaner get it clean enough that it'll do a Regen by itself ?

Doesn’t seem like they train mechanics to diagnose and fix anymore like this, they just train part replacers. Best off getting chummy with a proper mechanic and paying them cash on the side. They tend to have good connections so you can get things like ‘part worn’ tired for half the price too. (Usually only 50 miles on them where they’ve been moved from shipment to a fleet base where tires are changed to new as their policy)

Fscinating! Never watched your videos before, but have been searching for information on DPFs and diesel engines, as I've been looking at a Citroen Berlingo automatic, that only comes with their diesel engine. I barely drive 3,000-4,000 miles per year (recently retired), much of which is urban - I do very few long, hard drives. Looking at this video makes me think I probably shouldn't go near a diesel car!

Funny enough I watched a video a while back when a question was asked to a Mechanic 'should I get a diesel or petrol vehicle' his reply was 'low miles and short runs, petrol...high miles and long runs, diesel' This made sense to me. My 30 year Old camper is a diesel, no fancy electronics, DPF or EGR valve and in five years I've had no engine issues. I don't do High mileage 1200 miles per year on average and 95% of the time, no more than a 5 mile round trips; the other 5% could be hundreds of miles once or twice a year. I don't think that would work Good for a modern diesel but then again, it could be a case of 18000 miles of motoring like this before a modern diesel would show signs of problems, that would be 15 years of motoring for me. As long as the diesel engine and components were in Good shape to begin with, I could be fine with a newer diesel. I owned an automatic once, I prefer manual for many reasons. Why the need for an automatic David if you don't mind me asking.
@davidrowe8747
@davidrowe8747 Год назад
@@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN just getting to your comment - have been away. I want to switch to auto after a lifetime of manual gears just for the simplicity, especially in traffic. I've driven a couple of friends' auto cars and it's like night and day. In the past, I've even developed hip issues from driving my manual every day in commuter traffic - to the point that I changed my work hours to 6 am start and 3 pm finish, just to avoid the stop-start.

Not implying that whatsoever but if you watch my videos properly you'll clearly see I always say these issues are very simple but people just look in the wrong places. I'm just stating what the customer has been through with several different mechanics and then having to drive hundreds of miles to me to fix something this simple. Unlike every other dpf company I show exactly what was wrong.

My older shape 2014 transit I bought off a fleet operator who amazingly supplied Aldi and had their own fleet , the transit was for fixing the scania lorries , anyway it’d had loads spent, new turbo dpf and all sorts and 5 mins after buying it the elm came on 🤣 Took it to a guy who ran a fleet of transits and he checked the glow plugs and said one’s down and these need all the glow plugs to work or it won’t regenerate and the egr was not working due to one thing or another so I got a new glow plug and egr fitted and now it worked properly . Moral of the story is find someone who knows their onions not couldn’t care less keep throwing parts at it and hope you go away

I did a ranger a few years ago, same engine, lads in the garage I started in, fully loaded the parts cannon and reset all adaptations and let it back out for a few more weeks, I had a look at it and glow plug faults, replace them and test drove for a few days noticed the engine temp wouldn’t go over 65 degrees, stat was staying slightly open not letting the engine up to temp to do a regeneration, Replaced the stat and never seen it again after that
