In addition to losing weight, my goal was to stop meds. I was on 3 diabetes meds, no more. I was on 3 blood pressures meds, down to 1 and hopefully will stop that. Unfortunately, I had Stage 3 ovarian cancer in 2020. Due to complications I had to add a med for neuropathy the drugs caused. Also, had to add a hormone therapy to prevent the cancer from coming back. But at least I am working on stopping meds that I have control over.

I am back on the keto/carni train!! It is in my mind the ONLY truly safe way to overcome all these health issues, number one of which in my case of course is weight! If I have junky food for a day or two it is amazing how quickly the “food parade” starts marching through my head! The focus is on what to eat next, not hunger. As soon as I am back on track, the “food parade” disappears and I feel physically, emotionally and mentally relieved. Keto just feels good & steady to me. Food stays in its proper place and doesn’t dominate my life.

There is no such thing as “reversing” diabetes. You can put diabetes in remission. Once you’ve pancreas has been affected by diabetes, it’s there forever. Diabetes unfortunately is a progressive disease. I’m glad you’re in remission, but illness, age and other factors may eventually at some point raise your A1c to diabetic levels again.
@Poecilia1963
@Poecilia1963 2 месяца назад
@@Clarky1951 Is there research to show that those things raise the A1C for those in remission? I'm not diabetic but I follow Dr. Eric Westman, who has been using a keto diet to help diabetics put their diabetes into remission for over 20 years and I haven't seen him mention that. I know stress (including illness) can raise glucose, so the keto treatment should also include things like stress management, but it would be interesting to learn more about (very) long term results for those in remission.

@@Clarky1951 I think you are confusing T1D and T2D. You most certainly can reverse Type 2 diabetes as it is caused by a chronic carbohydrate toxicity. You eat yourself into the disease by becoming insulin resistant. Type 1 diabetes is caused when your pancreas is damaged and stops making insulin. Two very different disease's. T1D is much more serious because it's acute. You need immediate action when you go hypoglycemic. Something people suffering T1D can face daily. T2D kills you very slowly by glycating your whole body over a lifetime for some.

Never under estimate the power of emotions when it come to weight lose. When I was 36 I went on the Atkin's diet. I followed it to the letter. I discovered that when I exceeded 20 grams of carbs I went out of ketosis. I lost 100 lbs. in a year and kept it off for over 20 years. I gave up processed sugar completely. Not a processed flour. Then within less than a 2 year span my father died, my mother died, I married and divorced and, oh yes, I gave up a 2 to 3 pack a day smoking habit. During that time I gained all of my weight plus some. Now, I am back on a high protein low carb life style and am losing weight. The first thing I did was rid my house of flour and all related products. It has taken me 2 years to loose about 45 pounds and that is okay. I feel so much better (aside from my knees and COPD ). I am happy with this. Occasionally when I eat out I will have a burger and fries or pizza but I have NOY eaten granulated sugar in 47 years. Junk food is not showing the profit it used to because maybe people are a bit smarter now and have at least cut back on it. Love watching you girls and enjoy many of your dishes.

Went from a few bites to a whole carton. Gained it all back in 2018. Taken me until now 2024 to get ahold on these cravings and stay on track. 25 lbs down now. 30 to go. But watching you girls go through the same stuff as me (and my sister) really helps me stay on track. And you are 100% right on getting a hobby. The key is teaching children how to eat. Make it a required class in school. Most of us are stuck with what our parents buy. My mother was a cereal/donuts for breakfast and pasta/rice for dinner. So her 3 kids ended up obese. And now we have to suffer through trying to lose weight. I've lost over 125 pounds and still have more to go.

I agree. I’ve noticed moms following their young kids around with little bags of goldfish and fruit roll ups, like it’s so important to never let a kid get hungry. One school has two “snack breaks”, instead of recess. Every commercial has some giant burger or chocolate concoction, food noise doesn’t always come naturally, it’s played for us by advertising demons.

Good on you for perseverance! Some say ‘Keto’s so restrictive!’ It’s NOT! Not as many dietary restrictions as many diets. Wide selection of great foods-just not the carby ones. I went cold turkey 7/18 and did well for five years. Never hungry!!!Fell way off the wagon in 10/23 & had a hard time getting back on, kicking my carb addiction. Finally did it last month. The weight is just falling off while my goal of getting my A1c back down is my main goal, but I need the weight off as well. So I do see again & know now-you CAN ‘kill 2 birds with one stone’. I have been a lifetime WW member for decades. Weigh in once a month. Five years ago, I switchedto low carb to avoid diabetes. That pre diabetes diagnosis cganged the way i eat. That bowl of fruit a day was zero points, but full of fruit sugar!! I dropped about 15 pounds quickly, even though i was at goal for WW. I do the virtual meetings for support, but their diet doesn’t work for some people. By the way, the AMA says that 30% of prediabetics become diabetics within 5 years unless they change their diet! I just passed the five year mark. So the WW support is good, but I have major disagreement with the diet. I mean, really, bananas really have a lot of fruit sugar. Wait to see how you can’t eat a banana very often I am low-carb keto! I think they added bananas to the Weight Watchers world because of pressure from members.

I never understood why people take that drug to loose weight, I won't take it not even for free because after all that is a drug that will damage the body anyway. All we need is a little will power to keep a keto/low carb diet to loose weight without poisoning our bodies. Love the way you both are, because you're not trying to impressed anybody, just acting like two normal people that is taking life with the ups and down. Love you guys❤❤

Dr. Eric Westman just did a video about this. He said if you want to take Ozempic, you still need to eat keto, before, during or after use. People are also using Ozempic in order to eat whatever they want and they are not learning really healthy eating habits. They will regain the weight and more if you don't stay on the drug, or eat keto.

Ozempic seems to have side effects that I’m not willing to risk, plus there is no way I’m injecting myself or pay $1k a month for it. Fen-Phen worked so well eliminating food noise for me. Food wasn’t on my radar. I ate keto and had none of the health problems some experienced. My doctor did put me through a battery of test to ensure I would be a good candidate with no underlying issues. Not staying keto after losing weight was my mistake.

I was taking Ozempic for a little while. I constantly felt nauseous on it, and I psychologically missed eating food. I was worried I'd end up with nutritional deficiencies, so I gave Ozempic up eventually. I now enjoy a meat based diet with very little carbohydrate. I feel nourished and I'm losing weight too. I'm not against Ozempic, it just isn't for me!

I took Trulicity for 10 years for pre-diabetes. I was forced off earlier this year by the shortage created by the demand for the glp-1 drugs for weight loss. When I initially began (at that time it was Byetta) I lost about 60 pounds between the drug and Weight Watchers. Over the next few years WW stopped working because they kept changing the program every year and the drug became ineffective for keeping my weight down. I continued to take it (insurance made me switch to Trulicity) because it was very effective at controlling my A1c. When Trulicity became unavailable I had already embarked on a keto diet so when it was available again I refused it and continue to control my blood glucose this way. Also, wearing a continuous blood glucose monitor has been very helpful in identifying foods I tolerate well and those I don't.

being a food addict I love the release from food noise I get from a Keto/carnivore diet. I still have noise but I have tools to deal with it now thanks to influencers such as yourselves who bring me interesting food choices that perhaps I would not have tried on my own. My best day on Keto/Carnivore is far better then my worst day on a SAD diet. I would be afraid the food noise would get so loud if I tried Ozempic and then went off of it.

Food noise, that's exactly it. I let food noise win for a whole year even though I am 6 years into keto and a firm believer in a keto lifestyle. The food noise around me, mostly from my junkaholic husband and always snacking kids, overwhelmed me and I gave in time after time even though I had been so successful for years on a strick keto plan. I lost over 80 pounds, and had 3 textbook healthy pregnancies which I was told would not be possible and then i let the disappointment of gaining back about 10 pounds spiral me into a year of depression and giving in to food noise. I am so disgusted by what I did to myself and the thinking I gave in to, but I am back on track now. Fight the food noise. Don't do what I did.

I've spent 50 YEARS!! Over 50 years of my life dieting. Much of that time I've been 100lbs or more overweight! I have been doing low carb for 2 decades. I've been doing Keto for 3 years. I've also used IF and extended fasting. Through the years, I've lost many, many pounds, but it always comes back bringing more with it! Now, I'm also using semaglutide to help me control cravings, and lose weight, but I'm still Keto and will be fore life. I'm down over 50 lbs so far. I could not, did not, succeed with Keto alone. I'm writing this to say it doesn't have to be either/or. It's ok to use semaglutide and to be Keto. I pray I don't have to use semaglutide forever. I don't plan to. But for once in my life I would so very much love to get to a "normal" weight and learn how to stay there for at least some small portion of my ENTIRE LIFE!!! One year. One year of close to ideal weight and maybe I can stay there. I've never gotten to a "maintenance" weight level and that's my goal, to get there and stay there for one year. But I also know it's not only about eating. It's the entire health process, which includes exercise and strength training, and staying active physically and mentally. So don't give up on Keto and don't fall for the trap of thinking the medication has to be forever. It's about changing our bodies. And for some of us first we have to get the weight off. But, hopefully along the way y'all can work on helping people figure out how to keep it off through low carb, high protein, Keto. I believe high protein is the key. High protein, good fat and very low carb, and controlled daily totals of each.

But after a 6 months break and gaining an additional 10 pounds I did Keto with IF. That helped w the Food Noise for me. Lost 42 pounds. Trying to maintain it off but gained another 5 pounds in March and having a hard time loosing it. Your videos help me feel NOT ALONE. Prefer non med methods in my journey.

I went on Zepbound, which is trizepitide for one month. Frankly, that was all I could afford and will not be able to afford to take it. It worked great got rid of the food chatter. Didn’t really care about eating that much. So since I couldn’t afford to stay on it, I went to the compounded Semaglutide, which is I think the same thing as Ozempic. The compounded version doesn’t work as well as the other and I still need to be on a food plan. I find I have to watch what I eat. I have to eat healthier. You can override the feelings of not wanting to eat and you can eat if you want to eat. You still need to be healthy and keto is one of those healthy things so I don’t think keto’s gonna go away, because you still need to be on a healthy food plan that works for you as an individual.

For me personally, I did need to take medication to help control my diabetes and weight because I couldn’t do it by myself. My body just would not give up the weight. However, I have used Ozempic and now MounJaro to help me get rid of the food noise, and I have been living a Keto lifestyle for 3 years. I have used the meds as tool, not a lifestyle and keto is now my lifestyle. So, I do t think it is one or the other for everyone. I have worked very hard to lose 110lbs and I work hard every day to maintain and stay healthy. If I have to use the meds in conjunction with keto, then I am willing to do that because it is what my body needs. I hope to not need meds eventually and I have cut out more than half of the medications I used to take . Anyway, this is a great conversation to have. But for some of us it is not so black and white. 🤷‍♀️

OMG, your story definitely resonates. I think I did Weight Watchers for the first time in HS, and then I did it about 3 more times later in life, plus redux and phen-phen (prescription diet pills from the 90's), NutriSystem, etc. etc, etc. I have also been off and on Keto several times during the past 5 or so years. I am currently trying to get back on track. I lost 50lbs, and sadly, I have re-gained 30 of them this year. You are so right, it's the thoughts about food that never leave. Any time of extreme stress, sadness, happiness, excitement, on and on and on revolves around food. I have thought about Ozempic, but the fear of side effects and mostly the cost keep me from moving forward. I have been hearing a lot about Bermerine (some call it, nature's Ozempic), which is a supplement. I was wondering if you have heard of it, or heard of anyone having success with it. Thank you for being so real and vulnerable on your channels. It really helps to feel that others face the same struggles.

First, chin up- keto is necessary for weight loss. I currently take Zepbound for weight loss. The drug is not intended to be used indefinitely according to my internist and my insurance pharmacist. Also, a keto or Mediterranean diet is encouraged to be followed while you are on the medication. I’ve followed keto for 8 years. I lost 46 lbs with keto and an additional 32 lbs with Zepbound. The keto will continue to keep me in maintenance. You have to maintain a high protein low carb diet to maintain the weight loss. I’ll keep watching because I love the recipes and I am keto for life.
