Excellent Video! Apologies for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Chiveard Discovering Potential Framework (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for finding your true calling and achieving success without the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my best friend Jordan after a lifetime of fighting got excellent results with it.
Elite Clinical Research job hunting is hard SOMETIMES? Dude I’ve been trying to get employed for eleven years now and NOBODY seems to want to hire me. It’s hard ALL the time!
I’ve noticed this. It’s as if companies have it to keep them top of mind, like advertising. And companies that has you under consideration for 6 months and not moving.
Good points. I fall into most of them. Unfortunately, when you've been looking for a job for so long and get nothing you just want to give up. It's hard to get out of that mindset. It's exhausting. I never thought i'd be going through this at this time in my life. It sucks. Being told you are 'overqualified' simply means you're too old.
No experience except internships...gotta have a job to get a job it’s maddening! They all want 5+ years prior experience, I can’t even get my foot in the door
alicat312uc what types of jobs are you applying for? You can try assessing what do they need! For example, what problems do they have? What can be improved in their existing company...or processes? Is there something new they can do to become better..... Think about ways in which you can be helpful to them, manifest this and they might forget that you don't have 5 years of experience :)
I have been applying for jobs for 2 years. Only 1 interview that I was excited for. Didn't get a call back. I go in confident, and nothing. Still applying for jobs. Not gonna give up though.
I disagree with number 5. If I seem desperate for the job for which you're interviewing me, that's because I am! So are a LOT of other people in this horrible economy. Desperation to land the right job doesn't mean I would be terrible at the job. In fact, it probably means the exact opposite. Look at me versus somebody who is cocky and expects to land any job he/she wants with no trouble. Which of us do you think will end up working harder for you and doing a better job for you?
bigsexy No you're not getting it. I'm not going to apply for "every job" because I'm desperate. I'm going to apply to the jobs that I know I'm qualified for...there's a difference
ok cool for you, not everyone can do that though. not everyone can do anything, and the people that disagree with that statement are the kinds of people that can make their own job, but those people aren't all people.
That means the person is nervous & if you're nervous in an interview then it will translate to your ability to work under pressure. Practice & confidence gets rid of the nerves. Trust me!!
I've nearly given up on finding my dream job. I've been trying very hard to start a career in allied health and it seems like recruiters just look for every reason not to hire you versuses looking for reasons why you would be a great fit for the company
I've been in four interviews they all let me down😔.I try my best to impress my interview but they always want someone who is way experience. I feel really depressed. I feel like I'm not meant for this world.
I know how feel bro it's fucking ridiculous how hard it is to find a job it I've been searching for a few years now and nothings happing it just brings so much depression 😔😔
What happens when you are very miserable in your current job and on top of that you're not being called for job interviews for over a year ? This is the situation I find myself in and it is ruining my personal life and professionally
You wouldn’t even want to be in retail. Unless you’re just a very simple minded person who can be content with spending your life selling garbage to garbage buyers, you’re not gonna want to sign up for that.
I'm feeling desperate rather than excited? You're damn right I'm feeling desperate MORE THAN excited because desperate times call for desperate measures. In fear of losing my car, my insurance, my patience, yes, I'm feeling MORE desperate now than ever. I'll feel excited when I land the job. How I feel about it later will be determined how the job goes.
Number 2 happened to me a couple times. The first job I interviewed for last month after graduating was really cool and I had an amazing interview but for some reason, they never called back. The Hiring Manager all but hired me on the spot. He told me to come back next week for training... and nothing happened. The same happened another time after that. I have come to understand that the level of enthusiasm they show in the interview doesn't really amount to anything, so I do my best but I don't put an obligation on the employer to do anything anymore. I learned to accept that I may not get hired even if I have all the qualifications and had a great interview. It's just the way the world is.
Same thing happened to me when I applied at a Best Buy consultant position. Interviewers and me were having casual conversations, answered "what-if" questions flawlessly based on my experiences, and mentioned how I was studying and paid for a CompTIA A+ certificate test + how much I am into technology + worked on personal computers on the side. A week later, sent me an email reading there were other candidates who were better qualified.
@@deslokthewarlock same happened to me this week, after having 2 interviews for a position and responding to all of their questions, i received an e-mail telling me that they hired somebody more qualified ..i put all my hopes into this job, after the second interview i really thought i have a chance, i was really depressed when they rejected me
I have been doing interviews since January, and I get "You are very skilled and your work is excellent quality, but we moved with someone else", I keep getting this rejection and am not sure how to fix it. I am not getting critics, they seem enthusiastic and then they say they moved with someone else
Most these reason are based on us actually getting called for an interview, majority of us can’t even get an email response lol obviously our enthusiasm increase if we finally get called for an in-person. The issue is we apply to thousand of positions and don’t even get a response
I apply what I have the background to do and can bullet point my skills during an interview. Yet I get the canned response that they are going with other candidates who more closely meet the job description 😐
@AkmaTravels So true! It takes a lot of work to find THE dream job. But if you can show how you can/will SOLVE the employers’ problem, THAT will be the game-changer. Good luck!
I definitely fell into the “needing to take a break situation”, so I did just that. When I moved back to looking for a job I was still a little unmotivated so I paid for this service to revise my RESUME & got it to sound very professional, and now I’m getting interviews. I’m so excited!
@@godisgreat418 not to being superior or something but, i have a good skills of computer literacy, cisco network associate certificate, videographer certificate, barista certificate, human resources management bachelor degree, good communication skills and you know what its been 4 years since my graduation and about 500++ job i applied. Not a single job i had right now lol even i applied to ice cream booth and didnt get call for interview like wtf is going on lol
Shaquille RC Damn that’s rough! I feel so sorry for you, because that’s a tough spot to be in. I hope all goes well for you and you do have a lot of skills and experience to not get a job, so am also shocked that your still not able to find a decent job...
Reason #6: When the interviewer sees that you've already quit 4 previous jobs, and been fired from 7 previous jobs in the past 2 years, it gets pretty hard for them to see you as a good candidate to fill the position.
They want you to have the experience and the degree but then the starting pay is $15 an hour and your $40,000 in debt from getting that degree. It just doesn't work. I've been struggling to find a job for that exact reason. The more time that passes the more I feel like I should just settle on a lower paying job. It's honestly a bit degrading when I worked so hard to get where I am.
Yep. I have my bachelor's and have been trying to find a proper full time job that can pay enough to support my family, and all anyone wants to give me is part time and less than $15 when I have 15 years of sales & customer service experience. That won't pay off my loans or help me to afford a proper house. So I hear ya.
I went to an interview 4 days ago. The interview went well and the interviewer also said she liked me and she also said she will contact me in 2 days but I am not getting any call from her since it is been 4 days already. Ugh why is it hard to get a job that is well paid. Life sucks!
Linda, I love your videos - they are extremely informative and concise. I have been unemployed for 11 months now and have to put on a "happy face" during each interview and treat it as a new adventure. I do tell stories describing how I've solved problems for companies and also bring samples of my work instead of simply "telling" them my skills. I do smile frequently and am upbeat, give eye contact and ask questions. Yet, I am still convinced that there are "gray areas" in HR hiring practices. Companies may already have an internal candidate in mind, but make you go through the arduous process of interviewing a panel of managers and come back multiple times. Also, many job descriptions specify 3-5 years of experience with a college degree. This practice is clearly geared towards attracting a younger employee right out of college because they will work for less money and will not likely retire for a few decades. So, what can a seasoned employee do when nobody wants to hire them?
@@mariahg4561 200 applications, 30 years of exp and recent MA w MERIT from King's College London. Ageism. I will eventually get a job but I had no idea it would be this hard. I am so much better qualified than most! Over 1500 publications.
Was fired in July and got another job quickly. Was laid off. Got another job a week later and now been unemployed since August due to being laid off it’s now December and just got notice my unemployment is being cut off in January. I’ve had an interview at least once a week and still no call back. I went to our employment help services here and took an interview class... they said I’m fine. Very personable and confident. I really don’t know why I haven’t been hired...
This lady mentions the problem of not seeing your job search as an exciting endeavor? I have never heard anyone say that being unemployed and having to search for a job is an exciting endeavor. I just do not see that situation in someone's life, actually mine right now, being some exciting thing. I agree with her five points she talked about but just not the exciting endeavor part. It's not. It's frustrating, emotionally draining, stressful, a drag on one's self esteem and self efficacy and all the while, one has to fight all of that internal stuff and at least appear to be confidant in an interview. It's a challenge from the get go....not an exciting endeavor from the get go.
Lisa M. Exactly. Half the people making these videos are set and have a good paying job and even if they don’t like it at least they have money to pay bills pay rent and eat food.
I think I am experiencing a bit of burnout myself. It's especially frustrating when you are with a good company for years but constantly denied position changes/promotions. Maybe I need that week long pause. Do you think there is a degree of favoritism that goes on in the job market and you basically have to know somebody who knows somebody who is a door opener? :\
leonphelps knowing people (in other words having a professional network) always helps! And you should work on building your professional relations every day as you never know what positive surprises that will bring :) and how many doors people will open for you... But what exactly is your case? Are you saying that you want a promotion in you current company or are you looking for a new job?
White men need not apply. That's my impression of the job market these days, kind of a reverse Jim Crow thing. Would that be called a Worc Mij thing? haha
I've been unable to land a steady job for about two years now, working temp contract and such to get by. I have a Master's degree but no experience in the field I want to work in, and even entry level positions require 3-5 years experience.
I have been at this for 4 years, and can't seem to get a job offer. It has made my depression so much worse because I can't help but feel like a failure. I don't think Linda understands how much this whole job interview process is so draining, and makes you feel hopeless.
Exactly. It gets to the point that everything feels hopeless and never ending. Like everytime I try I get rejected so what is gonna change? It's hard to get out of that mindset especially if you're not able to take or be on any medicine to help.
I am trying to transition from Serving in a restaurant for 20 years to office work and I am finding it very difficult. I have a bachelor's degree and don't want to serve anymore. Its very upsetting and disheartening when you don't have the experience and skills that that they require.
I'm seriously thinking about giving up entirely. Pre pandemic was hard enough, I did eventually find a job for my senior year, but lost that when Covid hit. Now I'm almost 20 and being the only member of the family without a job puts a constant reminder of failure on me.
I've worked 6 months in the last two years. It's got to the point where I can't even focus on the Job Ads without getting a headache and losing all focus.
5 reasons: 1: lack of optimism / confidence 2: put all of your eggs in the next interview ( instead make a connection with the hiring manager) 3: self rejection / doubt 4: compare to others ( you have value to offer) 5: feeling desperate than excited Note: i applied for more than 180 jobs in the last 2 months and I have interviews almost everyday. But I am not reaching the 3rd or last round of interviews often. I don't even feel sad when I get rejected in my last round interview. I got used to it. I don't know if it's a good thing or not 😮💨
I have applied to about 60 that looked mildly interesting and fit in my needs and have only had about 3-4 interviews and I am at the point where I am so meh about it all i just don't know which direction to go towards.
02:02 - Looking for a job has become a chore. No longer an exciting endeavour for you. 04:23 - You place all your hope in the next job interview you get called for and feel disappointed when it doesn’t work. 06:37 - You feel very simply you’re ‘not good enough’. 08:15 - You are not expressing a professional presence. 09:28 - You are feeling ‘desperate’ rather than ‘excited’.
I've been in four interviews they all let me down😔.I try my best to impress my interview but they always want someone who is way experience. I feel really depressed. I feel like I'm not meant for this world.
These are all things I struggled with. I resigned with my previous job feeling I didn't do good out of it and I've been feeling scared to look for a other job and apply thinking I'll repeat the same mistakes again. Also, been resting for a few months because of it and getting turned down by a company I really liked just a week ago. I'm surrounded by the mentality I'm never gonna find a new job and is afraid to even apply. This is a really insightful video that has perfect timing. I'll think about these things deeper and formulate a plan. Thank you.
2# i am always focused. I'm stressed because they say no. #1 disappointment #3 knowing you are a good fit and knowing you will land the position depends on the interviewer. My perspective is the factors of not having the position and knowing they won't. I'm glad on the other hand that some said no. Often times the industry isnt professional nor successful. Not saying I prayed against the process but need something I will do.
Hi Linda, thank you so much for all the videos you posted which helped me land on my dream job. I watched most of you video, some 5 times, took notes, prepared well and nailed on the first interview I got. I really appreciate for all the efforts you put on these videos!
Crying at point number one. It's so hard getting back to being positive, and optimistic again. I miss that side of myself. But now I feel so unaccomplished, and my confidence is shot. Thank you for this video.
In my previous employment none of the skills learned in a company or department were transferable to a new employer. There were no promotions and no new skills or tasks to be learned no training just pushing paper for not even half a day. So for me seeking a job now days is very difficult, especially with no skills. I'm tired of having just a job, I want a job that can turn into a career.
Find a job is so hard. I lost hope. I'm hard working person but no one excepts me. I have some experience but nothing is enough. While I was studying at the university, I was an intern in court for about 1 year. Then I was working in government agency, I had practice there for about 7 months. Now I have unpaid job, and waiting until they notice me. I applied for so many applications but never received call... I'm 22 years old by the way 😭
Not exhibiting a negative demeanor or rejecting the suggestions, but it's not always the candidates. Often times its the recruiters. Sometimes, they tend to pick who they like or know oppose to the most competent. That's why there are people who are confused when they convey or converse with others on and during the job. Then the company has a weak ROI and high turn-overs. This continuously caused the company to search for candidates with a continuous cycle. No one owes anyone anything... well some people do;however, How would a candidate ne a best fit when their not granted an opportunity?
11 months...no job. MBA with two agile certifications. I have absolutely no energy anymore...just accepted being a loser at this point. I pretty much accept being rejected even though I can put on a good front. The ATS recruiting systems have made it impossible. I'm either overqualified or underqualified. This is insane. All I do now is sit in my car and deliver food to people now. So much for schooling, so much for my 10 years corporate experience. Screw it
I can relate to the emotional roller coaster feeling. Hope goes up, disappointment happens, emotions crash. I have been hunting for a month and was wondering what is the key to finding emotional stability. Your emphasis on focus and re-framing how you see the interview is insightful. Thank you!
thanks, im almost 400 pounds and watched this video and decided i need to get off rust and get a job i am now 398 pounds prouldy working at dunkin' donuts! thank you linda! you're the reason i got a job it was diffucult at first considering i needed a wheelchair to get around becuase my legs were under my belly paralizing me permanently thanks again i needed to get this off my chest please dont be mean.
Employers need to get over themselves. Hire people that are ambitious for the position. Not the idiot who has a ton of experience. It is proven that people with experience are smug, self-absorbed troglodytes. They are stubborn and think they know everything. They behave towards others with an elitist demeanor. What a useless person to have in your company. As an ex-company owner, I had the best success with hiring green-horns. They WANTED to learn and do the job right. THAT made my business successful. They molded to my company's expectations. But hey!! My IQ is far above 70 so I can't speak for the 90% of company managers out there.
Yes I can relate to a good amount of these. This video open my eyes. Do you have tips from going from self employed for years to working for someone? How can I make my resume/CV stand out? I'm going to have to start watching your videos. Subscribed :)@
(StyleME) StyleBitsnBobs I would highly recommend taking my Top Notch Resume course to create a standout resume. topnotchresume.lindaraynier.com/signup
job interviews scare the everything out of me. i would rather have a root canal on every tooth on the same day than go to a job interview. scary stuff.
8 weeks!!! I've been looking for 3.5 years for a job I would enjoy doing, and I have a lot of experience in different areas and worked in sales, I had my cover letter and resume redone and I'm very positive and am always adjusting, I am very confident and feel I am way more qualified, more knowledge and more passionate than most people.
Once, I went for an interview for a retail job and the manager said I was hired. Great! I filled out paperwork and manager called to fill out more the following week. Didn't hear back for next 2 weeks. Called to ask if everything was ok, was told manager is scheduling things. 1 week later, have not heard anything. I get an email about harassment training and go in for that. Manager stated in email she tried to text me, but I have not received anything from her. Nothing a week later. I try to call a week later and the phone just rings and rings. I never knew it was possible to be hired and then un-hired...
I feel like n°1 creates n°5 which also creates n°2 and n° 3 and 4 are often linked to lack of experiences, so when you're trying to find your first job, you experience all of them! I need to work on my confidence level and determining what I really want! super interesting video!!
Let's also acknowledge that companies are also the main reason why candidates with experience and great qualifications end up jobless for long. FIRST, they don' t read the CVS in the first place and just hire someone who was referred by a friend. SECOND, the whole recruitment process needs to be reevaluated. Why now in the 21st century you still have to write an interest or motivation letter and still have to get references, some of whom might hate you or might even forget you worked for them. And the idea of the interview itself is very questionable, for some companies love to turn it into an interrogation party (l was once interviewed intensely for an hour by FOUR managers and I really got tired and stressed out. I knew I wouldn't get the job). Companies should judge the prospective employee through their CV and then observe their work in reality, not by unnecessarily complicated applications and torturous interviews.
So I've been having some ups and downs looking for a new job. I recently had an interview for a Marketing position with a top tech company that took a few weeks. One week I had a call with their Cali--based recruiter. A few days after I spoke with their NYC-based recruiter. A week or so later I had an person interview and met with the NYC recruiter and had Skype interviews with 3 other people. THEN, that Friday or the following Friday they also had me do a video interview with 2 other people I'd be working with. I followed up with one person, who directed me back to the Cali person...Who called me back a few days later and told me I didn't get the job. Even though everyone seemed to be impressed with me, I just didn't have the experience that other candidates have. On the one hand, it feels great to have been chosen for an interview with this company. That does great things for my confidence somewhat. But then it sucks that I didn't get the job. I've been getting some interest here and there...I'm waiting to here back from one company about the final interview I had 2 or so weeks ago, and I am in the process of the first steps of a Marketing Coordinator position for one company and a Content Development Internship at another. I've been contacted about an Editorial Writing Internship that ended up not being a fit for what I expect from a position financially. I've been working on my brand for some time...Making sure I have a decent social media presence that amply showcases what I do. And it seems to be garnering positive results with some of the companies I'm applying to. But I know that in order to really impress any/every company that comes across my resume, I need to make sure my next role is full of opportunities to build KPIs for organizations. I want to be able to say that as a result of content I developed, links had an average click rate of 60-80% for social campaigns or email, etc etc, an average of 150 likes or shares, etc. I have similar metrics for a company I worked at as a content writing intern a few years back, but I really need to push those results much farther. I need my next opportunity to give me the creative freedom to develop and market content, as well as work within established protocols, so I can really build an even more impressive resume. It's disheartening to be so close yet not close the deal on my next job yet.
i resigned a job in NY... and have had 15 years of experience in NY.. i figured I would have no major problem finding a job in Las Vegas. I had to deal with Lymphoma Chemotherapy for 6 months. Now, I am concerned about my healthcare, and my future. I have had around 14-15 interviews, and no job offers. I am kinda perplexed. I am feeling not good enough, so I decided to try another career. I am now trying to find work in a dispensary, and have gotten no call backs. My job search is sucking in Las Vegas.
Sometimes you need to reconstruct your life entirely. Sometimes you’re in a bad place and you need to be somewhere else to be your best self, which equals ability to land a job. It sucks so much but such is life.
I definitely don't connect with my job searches at all, but I bring it on interviews, if I even get that far. I'm trying to do more of the thing I love, but it's not full time, nor providing benefits. This whole experience is mortifying.
Yessssss, and too me the interview goes really well. Even had the employer introduce me to other employees as the new employee!!!!! Made I'm I doing wrong??????
WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE TO PERSUADE THE POTENTIAL EMPLOYER ??! WHY SHOULD I PERSUADE YOU??!?! WHY THIS MIND GAME??! WE HAVE TO PAY RENT,IM INTELLIGENT ,TAKE ME. PERIOD
Some hiring business would rather save money and hire in house instead of outsiders. It's all about saving money. Not giving outsiders a fair chance in getting the position. "Jobs", want you to have experience. How can you gain experience if some jobs or all jobs don't give u chance unless you have experience. How can someone get experience if they don't give people a chance. Thanks for the advice.
I'm 56 years old, just finished a 9 month medical billing and coding course, and can't land a job. Employers tell the recruiters the same thing over and over, "the interview went great, he has a great skill level, and knowledge, but we decided to move forward". I'm at the end of my wits.
I got job offers however i notice a shift with employers looking at someone credit score and for that reason alone i got denied. yeah my credit is bad because i take care of someone that has illness but employers don't care. I am about to lose it all if i cant get help...
Sal K what do you mean no luck? Did you get to interviews? If not, you should work on your resume and in general work on how you present yourself online and when applying for a job.
