Just a small error in the video: China by the end of February 2021 built 827,000 charging stations, not just 500,000 as CNBC mentioned.

Another point to add: China has an extensive network of public transportations and high speed rails. People generally do not have the need to drive 2-3 hrs inter-city/province travels for business or for leisure, most of the automobile usage are for daily commutes, which successfully avoided the current shortcomings of EVs (charging time).

Leaders from top to municipal level in China are mostly engineer or construction or water graduates, while leaders of different levels in US are mostly lawyers or politics graduates.

Because they don’t have much oil, they have to go green. They don’t have a habit of invading other countries for oil.

I came here to learn how to trade after listening to a guy on radio talk about the importance of investing and how he made $460,000 in 4 months from $160k. Somehow this video has helped shed light on some things, but I'm confused, I'm a newbie and I'm open to ideas.

China has multiple points on why they sell so much electric cars. 1) they are making cheap as well as expensive EVs. You can basically get an EV for every pocket. 2) incentives. As pointed in the video, they subsidise a lot of the price to help move from the tradicional ICE engines. 3) public transportation. You can move around town, between towns or cross country with planes, trains, metro, electric buses so you dont need a car to travel the 1000 km between destinations.

In China, government policy drives the "free market". In the US, the free market drives government policy.

Cant afford one. For me, that is the issue.

Interesting to watch this video 10 months after creation. To see Chinese EV automakers pulling even further ahead. The GM Bolt production being completely stopped and all vehicles recalled. Legacy auto is too slow in adoption to realistically catch up.

I guess US gov needs to protect their oil companies. As you know, their capitalist are so powerful and so rich, basically the gov works for them. It has nothing to do with democracy or human rights. It is all about money and profit for the top few %.

The US looks like the UK when the US surpassed it when energy went from coal to oil.

Of course, any country could dominate the U.S. with smaller and more efficient vehicles, EV or otherwise. Where I live in NYC, people seem to enjoy driving oversized gas guzzlers. I suppose they equate vehicle size with wealth and they need to impress other people/friends/women/neighbors, etc. Also, the more powerful the vehicle, the faster they can get from traffic light to traffic light. I have neighbors who drive fairly large SUVs and there's usually only the driver in them. There's also this weird trend for white-collar employees to drive pickup trucks without having any payloads. Go figure. I can't imagine any of those people buying smaller EVs unless the government forced them to. I'm 73 and I get around on my two bikes and a dual-motor electric scooter. I also have my senior transportation pass. I could easily afford some high-end vehicle but I like the exercise although the roads in NYC are in horrible condition. Still, I can easily food shop at local stores. Being retired, I simply don't need to own a car anymore. If an EV the size of a smart car was available with a true range of 100 miles, I might consider it but I still don't even need that. Anyway, I suppose real men have to drive large and expensive vehicles to make themselves feel they're living the good life. Me, I enjoy riding my bike for miles and that makes me feel I'm living the good life.

The US is really good at identifying problem but really slow in tackling it.

I was born as raised in china and a university student in Boston but I went back to china since covid broke out. Objectively, I would say in mordernized regions, the life in china is no difference to such life in Boston. We care normal things just as any other people in the world are caring about. Talking about EV, in my hometown, at leasy half of the buses and over half of the taxies are already electric, and since the gov put tax incentive on EV buyers, low-wage workers are always fond of those domestic brand, also considering the low price of energy.

US is reluctant to admit the fact that the free market system cannot do everything. There is a role for the government in supporting and catalyzing the adoption of new innovations. In fact, US lead in technology starting in the 1950s owed a large part to government funding in NSF, DARPA etc... but it is politically risky. The other big political obstacle would be the special interests representing traditional fossil energy industry. I think US will get entangled fighting itself while China will keep progressing.

Not just China, pretty much the whole world is beating US in the Automotive Industry.

We need another “Sputnik” moment in the USA. We were behind USSR with the space exploration in the early 1960s, but USA leadership woke up and started investing in science, education and massive innovation. Chinese child would like to become an engineer and maybe an American child aspires to become a RU-vidr.

This is US and China story: Kid A and Kid B are both smart kids. Kid A used to be the smartest kid in the class, while Kid B is a close 2nd. Then Kid A started using his time and energy playing games (wars), Kid B devoted his time studying. One day kid A discovers that Kid B is overtaking him the smart ranking. Instead of trying to make himself better by studying harder, he goes and tells kids C, D, E, F & G to stop borrowing books to kid B doesn't get any smarter. Kid A started whining '' Not on my watch'' ''Fair competition''.

I had look my friends Nio& Xpeng's tech, They are absolutely stunning EV, and they understand what Chinese needs in car. eg.: those car has voice command & chat connect to their Wechat apps allows driver voice control the apps like ordering food/movie ticket ,voice msg to different friends without tocuhing the phone...

The oil industry has enormous power and control in America and Australia. Oil and coal fight change.

Definitely china has been the best in the market of production and as well as investing in profitable businesses

Why is the US always concerned in comparing and competition with a need to WIN attitude against China? The US chooses to pour all it's resources and secure it's win in the military industry sector. It has done so well that the next seven countries combined can't compete with the United States! You can at least feel good for that. 👍

Does CNBC hate Tesla or something? Most of their coverage of the company is very negative.

My next car will be an EV. In a couple of years prices will come down and range will increase as competition increases.

As a Chinese,to support environmental protection, I recently sold my Mercedes. I plan to buy an electric car, and the Chinese brand is really the best choice, better than Tesla.This is not advertising, because there are many brands in China, including high, middle and low grades.And the appearance is very good.

US has become the country of “no we can’t”. This country used to charge ahead on innovative ideas.

US is coming up with new EVs but all of them are super expensive like 80k-100k range.... In China most of EVs are normal looking cars costing 20-30k. Edit : I was talking about newly coming cars from Hummer and Rivian, Tesla do provide relatively affordable options from 35-55k.

The way Tesla, an American company doing superb business in China, it shows that there is always a scope of cooperation between the 2 superpowers. War is never a solution, only peace and mutual cooperation is a way for humankind.

In Canada there are no electric cars that you can drive out the door for less that $44,000. Also variety is severely limited.

US auto industry raised enough barriers for anyone to enter into the US market. While this is good for auto industry itself, it is questionable whether this is good for US consumers or US competitiveness in long run. Meanwhile, US auto makers can keep making ICE cars and ignoring carbon emission goals.

I've owned an EV and have solar panels and a wind turbine in my yard and pay $0 electric bill and $0 for gasoline and save: ~$2,000 a year on electric and gas bills. Not sure how ANYONE could go to a car dealership these days and buy an ICE vehicle, just makes no economic sense. All vehicles will definitely be EV's in the near future and all homes should have solar, it's a no-brainer.

the key to dominate the EV market is to build small, affordable EVs for everyday use. Most people use their cars to commute between home and workplace. Such cars don't need huge and expensive batteries, and can be charged rapidly even with low power chargers.

I think the problem is that ev's in the USA are mostly geared/advertised to wealthy individuals. It's almost like a status symbol. If you drive an electric vehicle you most likely were able to afford it without heavily impacting your annual income.

Why is China beating the US in anything at all? Except, momentarily, in defence. Don't worry, though. A paper of the US ministery of defence predicts that China will have the largest army of the world and the most modern by 2050.

China wants to reach carbon neutrality in 2060 as promised. With diverse areas and large populations, China has not much choices but chose EV, nuclear power plants, and Sun & wind power to reduce influences from oil & coal.

Investing make up the top notch hemisphere of the wealth. That's the more reason one should save and invest to secure profit and ensure success
