The global electric vehicle market is heating up and China wants to dominate. The country has invested at least $60 billion to support the EV industry and it’s pushing an ambitious plan to transition to all electric or hybrid cars by 2035. Tesla entered the Chinese market in 2019 and has seen rapid growth.
China sold roughly one million more EVs than the U.S. in 2020. But there are signs the U.S. is getting more serious about going electric. President Joe Biden announced a goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and investments in green infrastructure. Watch the video to find out how China came to dominate the market and whether it’s too late for the U.S. to catch up.

lol facts. They are building infrastructure like crazy. Even creating homes AND jobs for villagers. China doesn't just give the villagers a bunch of fish. They also create the infrastructures and the training to teach the villagers how to fish and support themselves. Chinese Government are investing heavily on the people. You can hate China all you want, but facts are facts. They are doing a better job. In the US it took 10 years and $90 billion dollar to build 1 column of a high speed rail. China in 10 years build HSR tracks all across China and whopping speeds and reliability. Creating more jobs along the way. Remember when the US said the Chinese HSR would fail? That no one would use it? Will, not only do locals use it, people who are traveling to China also use it, like a cheap roller coaster ride!

The US cant even build a high speed rail from LA to Las Vegas 😂, China has thousands of them
@StochasticUniverse
@StochasticUniverse 3 года назад
It's because it's not considered that useful or important. And, objectively speaking, it's not. Maybe nice to have in certain very niche cases, but not something that the average Angelino would ever use much. And, since it would cost billions, it would be at high danger of not even recouping its own construction cost. Hence, not worth building. If it were a great economic winner, it would have been done decades ago. The fact that it wasn't should make you question that maybe the economics are different for the US and China. Both the built structure of the societies, the spatial distribution of the population, and the nature of the infrastructure in place (more readily available gas stations make driving simpler) all make driving cars a simpler option for those few occasions when someone in Los Angeles would want to drive out to Vegas. For most middle class people, rushing out to the desert to gamble is honestly not something that pops up that often, to begin with. It's not a pressing travel need. Why should EVERYONE in Cali have to pay higher taxes so that a few people can have easier access to gambling? Not in the public interest.

China has multiple points on why they sell so much electric cars. 1) they are making cheap as well as expensive EVs. You can basically get an EV for every pocket. 2) incentives. As pointed in the video, they subsidise a lot of the price to help move from the tradicional ICE engines. 3) public transportation. You can move around town, between towns or cross country with planes, trains, metro, electric buses so you dont need a car to travel the 1000 km between destinations.

I assume you're referring to the way in which China requires foreign companies (other than Tesla) to form 50-50 "join ventures" with Chinese companies, right? They won't allow foreign companies to compete on a fair and level playing field with domestic companies in China. The CCP has always been extremely protectionistic towards its precious domestic market and zealously defends it against any foreign company that might actually become a threat. They usually force foreign companies to transfer their intellectual property to the Chinese "partner" in the joint venture, as well, and then that intellectual property is used to compete against the foreign company, not just in China but all over the world. This is the formula that China has used repeatedly in multiple different manufacturing industries. It will likely not work when it comes to EV building, though, because most of the innovation is being done outside of China and foreign firms are finally starting to wise up and refuse to cooperate with joint ventures if the likely result of that "cooperation" is that the company is just signing away the fruits of their research on a delayed basis to a future Chinese competitor.

Of course, any country could dominate the U.S. with smaller and more efficient vehicles, EV or otherwise. Where I live in NYC, people seem to enjoy driving oversized gas guzzlers. I suppose they equate vehicle size with wealth and they need to impress other people/friends/women/neighbors, etc. Also, the more powerful the vehicle, the faster they can get from traffic light to traffic light. I have neighbors who drive fairly large SUVs and there's usually only the driver in them. There's also this weird trend for white-collar employees to drive pickup trucks without having any payloads. Go figure. I can't imagine any of those people buying smaller EVs unless the government forced them to. I'm 73 and I get around on my two bikes and a dual-motor electric scooter. I also have my senior transportation pass. I could easily afford some high-end vehicle but I like the exercise although the roads in NYC are in horrible condition. Still, I can easily food shop at local stores. Being retired, I simply don't need to own a car anymore. If an EV the size of a smart car was available with a true range of 100 miles, I might consider it but I still don't even need that. Anyway, I suppose real men have to drive large and expensive vehicles to make themselves feel they're living the good life. Why is the US always concerned in comparing and competition with a need to WIN attitude against China? The US chooses to pour all it's resources and secure it's win in the military industry sector. @Rustic Box. You are mistaken, like any good old GOP voter, you believe in 19th century things. All of the USA military power counts for nothing. The wars are fought in the minds of people, not on battlefields any more. Russia and Steve Bannon managed to get Trump as your boss against his own will. America has been split into two, thanks to foreign intervention that has been going on for decades and Donald Trump managed to shut down the ONLY defense against it, i.e. the anti-hacking units of the CIA and RSA, because he thought it would help his re-election. The USA is lost because of the deeply inplanted lies they believe in. This has been going on for decades, by the way. I have been able to trace it back to 1984.

In less than 5 years, the cost of a battery pack and electric motor will be unequivocally less than a comparable ICE and transmission and continue to drop as the technology improves as it is a far less mature technology than the ICE and transmission. No the biggest issue will always be battery supply. No matter how much the battery technology improves and the cost efficiency of production, if only 10 million battery packs a year can be produced in the next 10 years up from the current 3 million battery packs produced in 2020, EVs will never be able to be the dominant vehicle sold in a 100 million annual and growing vehicle market, with China taking the large majority of batteries and Europe taking the next largest chunk. The US market is about 16 million new cars a year and they could only acquire almost 300k EVs in 2020 with waiting lists. In a couple years, the vast majority of people that can afford an EV and actually want one still won't be able to buy one because of availability...

Why is China beating the US in anything at all? Except, momentarily, in defence. Don't worry, though. A paper of the US ministery of defence predicts that China will have the largest army of the world and the most modern by 2050.

Currently, the top ten sales of electric vehicles in the Chinese market are all Chinese brands, except for Tesla in the United States. Not only that, China's electric vehicle lithium iron phosphate battery production has accounted for 80% of the world, and China is one of the world's largest electric vehicle markets.

Even when topic is not about Hindu-Muslim you are bringing it here, you yourself are doing Hindu-Muslim now! It doesn't matter who is in power, India will always have difficulty in switching to EV because of our poor infrastructure that is incapable of building charging stations on a large scale. This has got nothing to do with communal politics. Also, you need to understand Chinese political environment and Indian political environment, China doesn't have internal hurdles, democracy is good at giving rights but it also brings in few hurdles, something which CCP doesn't have to face. Chinese also have the luxury to think big and think long, whereas because of democracy we tend to think only about next 5 years! Another massive difference is that a lot of Chinese leaders are technocrats, they know the importance of STEM education and technology.
