The beautiful thing about RU-vid is that you can watch a channel and be tossed around automatically to other channels that are similar and find the most incredible channels! The perk to falling in to a channel late is that like a great series, you can binge watch! Well, I'm binging on you're amazing creations! So great!
I used to hate cinnamon, the smell made me gag. Then one day i woke up and MAGIC it wasn't so repulsive anymore and i started enjoying dishes with it. First it was sweets, then savory dishes and teas. I'm glad i can appreciate it now, it's such a comforting flavor. Warm and cozy.
June, I love you. Each one of your videos makes me forget time completely. You have that "everything's gonna be okay"-attitude. You create great things with the little things you have on hand. It's so inspiring. Keep it up and never change!
@@PandaBear62573 I think I was during the summer. Maybe just not during a heat wave. I remember on a live, she asked for recipes with cinnamon a couple weeks ago. Maybe I’m wrong 🤷♀️
I put a cinnamon stick in to simmer with my lamb soup and stew, even when all the other spices and ingredients are traditionally "Western" (i.e. garlic, onion, carrots, potatoes, etc.). It is also a common ingredient in Moroccan savoury dishes. It is transformative.
Thanks June and team! I love watching your content so much. I literally said I hope June has a new video earlier today. I’m excited to make spiced rice now :)
I'm always blown away by June's complex dish, I mean they are simple but she always dial the notch up with ingredients just like what she did with the oats.
Fun fact: Cinnamon and Cassia were known in European medieval cooking (including savoury dishes) from at least the 12th century on, likely even sooner. Usage varied after the Renaissance but you can still find it in many traditional savoury dishes especially of southern Europe.
Wow, June! You cut that sweet potato like some kind of human mandoline! I have made savory (rosemary, garlic, paprika) roasted sweet potatoes, but will definitely be trying your cinnamon ones.
I use cinnamon in several savory and sweet recipes. I also use it in my "fire cider" for "medicinal" uses. And I was so excited to see you also put it in your oatmeal as I do... but, have you ever tried adding a spoon or two of peanut butter in your breakfast oatmeal with your fruit and cinnamon?
I always put cinnamon in my chili! didn't know that wasn't standard, it's essential I think!! also delicious to add cinnamon (with other spices of course) to coucous, or with some cumin on roasted chickpeas
I had some Moroccan food (Chicken Bastilla) years ago, that was my first experience with cinnamon as a savory component. Amazing! Then I recently got some Vietnamese cinnamon from King Arthur Flour and WHOA. There really is a difference between cinnamons. Thanks for this video - I hope more people try putting "unconventional" (to them) spices in dishes from it.
Cinnamon is a great all purpose spice. I keep powdered ceylon for very delicate applications like homemade speculoos and cassia sticks for stuff like beef stew (a mainstay in mom's beef stew recipe).
JUNE!!!!! YAY!! I have missed you so much. I love cinnamon. I can only have ground or stick cinnamon but cinnamon oil i can't. So, anything like gum or candy or actual oil flavored with hot cinnamon oil will actually put blisters in my mouth. Is that the same as what you were using?
I got so happy when you talked about Cincinnati Chili. i used to br a Skyline Chili fan but now I’m a Gold Star Chili fan. Oh by the way, i live in Cincinnati!!!
Hi June I made the cinnamon chicken 🍗 recipe. Chris liked it but I know it would have been better with the sugar. I left it out because he’s a diabetic. Thanks for sharing your recipes!!!!!
Something about cinnamon triggers my gag reflex. I can handle it okay in small doses like Pillsbury cinnamon rolls where it get drowned out by sugar, otherwise no. I even have to hold my breath when entering craft stores during the holiday season because they always blast you with those cinnamon scents as you walk in the door. But I wonder if I tried true cinnamon (I'm assuming I've only had cassia up until now) if it would be any different.
my parents (theyre from kerala in south india) often cook rice with a stick of cinnamon in it just like june showed in the video and its really delicious. they usually make it like that when cooking biryani but a cinnamon stick can spruce up even plain white rice and make it feel super fancy and restaurant quality lol
When I was a teenager I added cinnamon to chilli and spaghetti sauce and weirded the crap out of my family. It was totally delicious though. I think I might be making that oatmeal for dinner tonight.
Btw, if you cannot eat sugar, you can do kinda of an Apple jam with cinnamon: just peel the apples, cut them thinly, add a bit of water (not too much) and add 2-3 sticks of cinnamon. The apples will be kinda like mashed potatos and the cinnamon, surprisingly, adds sweetness. Oh, and the apples probably shouldn't be too hard and sour, so many not granny smith
Literally just commenting to say that I recognized the labels on some of cinnamon jars from The Spice House. I love that company and buy from there often. Super food geeky of me to type this out but whatever. 😂
