Always a great joy to listen to Scott Hahn...what a blessing he is to the Catholic Church!

I adore Dr. Hahn’s writings. My husband and I converted from Evangelical Protestantism in 2007 and, as for so many other converts, “Rome Sweet Home” was instrumental in that decision.

Really enjoyed this. I'm not as educated on some details but I listen and absorb. I retired in March 2020, and my goals are to be a better catholic, wife and homemaker.

I think it should start with prayer before meals in all settings, especially in public. Once being in public becomes a thing again. Also, they need to bring back meatless Friday as a norm. Start there.

In a brilliant maneuver, he recasts the question in terms of clergy and laity. For clergy and laity-who are simultaneously citizens of heaven AND exiles on earth-have been endowed with grace to sanctify every sector of society … each according to his or her sphere of influence. Looks like it's time for another book purchase :)

I am a great fan of doctor Hahn and was listening this interview with a lot of interest till he mentioned Franco’s Spain as counterproductive for the Catholic faith as the collaborationist France of Vichy was; that, in the case of Franco’s Spain could not be farther from the truth. Franco’s victory over the communist during the Spanish Civil War put an end to the bloodiest persecution of Christians since the times of the Roman Empire and Franco’s (Catholic) regime can be considered as an example of a government putting in practice the social doctrine of the Church in politics (with remarkable economic and wealth fare, cultural and religious results), that’s why it’s very unusual (it has never happened to me before) finding doctor Hahn so deeply misinformed on one issue and still making such a firm statement. You might like his way of ruling or not but general Franco won a crusade against the enemies of the Church, for such an achievement he was awarded with the highest distinction a layman can receive from the Church (pope Pious XII appointed him knight of the Supreme Order of Christ), title that none of his successors has dared to withdraw. Franco was a remarkable Catholic man who died in full communion with his faith, so any comparison to Petain’s collaborationism with nazi Germany is unjust for false and inaccurate. I am sadly surprised by doctor Hahn’s flawed and ill-informed reference to such important chapter in Spanish (and Catholic) History. Franco’s Spain was not the lesser of two evils (fascism or communism) since Franco was first and foremost a fervent Catholic and so was his political regime (he cannot be considered a fascist because that is a form of idolatry towards the state which would have put Franco at odds with his own faith). On the contrary, general Franco’s regime was genuinely good (with all the flaws a human political regime can have) and his was one of the few governments which throughout War World II granted thousands of passports to European Jews to flee from the nazis. For such reason, Franco’s name was included amongst the good men Jews pray for in gratitude. Not even Franco’s early partnership with nazi Germany (he accepted Germain military aid during the Spanish Civil War) could justify such a mean and erroneous comparison since such aid came without any consideration and was received long before the world would find out the evil ends Hitler and his party sought. I truly hope someone as knowledgeable as doctor Hahn gets better informed about Franco’s regime before making such a frivolous (and inaccurate) reference to the same. Other than that, great interview and I am sure doctor Hahn’s new book will be as good as his previous ones.

Great talk! I was thinking about the parable of the prodigal son. The father remained in his house. He gave both his son free will and gifts. To the obedient: the continued, steadfast presence of the father and the appreciated value of the father's land. To the prodigal: a party when he was ready to come back. The father waited with a special blessing of the fatted calf until the prodigal son came home. I think that the obedient have the greater gift of full, justified inheritance and those disobedient who freely return are blessed with special graces of the holy spirit. Just my own meditation. The great thing about America is that it's a place of true freedom right now. What a celebration it will be when the land is filled with all those who freely choose to be obedient to Lord Jesus. We wait in joyful anticipation for His church body to freely return while we sing praises to the Lord. We pray for their return and do our best to say, "Jesus, I trust in you." God bless you both.

If I could add my two cents to the table, I think that a good way to affect the cultural/political spheres of our respective localizations would be to create Catholic-infused art. I dunno if it'll rub you guys the wrong way, but I for example run a memes RU-vid channel, and with all this talk of dialogue and the need to stop being closeted Catholics, I'm trying to be a bit more implicit of the Faith in my videos and posts and conversations with friends and such. It's small I know, but I think that's one way to put the lessons presented in this video into effect.

Great interview. I was surprised that Pope Pius XI encyclical on The Social Reign of Christ The King was not brought up at all in this discussion. Also how The Church since Vatican 2 including ALL the Popes since then & now have actually rejected the idea of Chris as King and have actually embraced the Judeo / Secular view on this subject. For instance in Columbia in their constitution they embraced a confessional Catholic State , but were told by The Vatican to abandon this idea !! The Novus Ordo Church in practice teaches “ religious freedom “ which was condemned many times over the centuries. In reality “ religious freedom “ really means secular/atheist government. This is a fruit of the Masonic/Judeo plan to not only destroy Christendom , but The Faith itself. The bottom line is people need to be told what to do, we are hierarchical creatures, if the media & government were pushing Virtue 24/7 instead of degeneracy , the average person would be striving to live a Christianlife instead of falling into the decadent lifestyles promoted now.

I agree with what most of Dr. Hahn says. However, when he said that Catholics and Protestants agree on 90% of doctrines, that needed a bit more nuance. If he was talking about High Church Anglicans or Some Lutherans, perhaps that could be said. But, I think that the Average Baptist, Calvinist, and Evangelical would disagree with about 90% of the Church’s teaching. There does need to be a focus on converting protestants since they do not have all the Church’s teachings, and they are living in error. No way do Catholics and Protestants only disagree on only 10%. Look at Justification, Ecclesiology, and the Eucharist. I hope Dr. Hahn reconsiders what he said.

Theistic reasoning...there are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on all the beaches of the world....but there's only one star with life on it, just so that the Hebrew war god could pull off a plan to rescue a minority of earth humans from the consequences of his own hatred.

Two times we are commanded to shema (hear and obey); the first concerns hearing and obeying YeHoVaH's Torah (instructions/laws/righteous right rulings), and the second concerns hearing and obeying "the prophet" that YeHoVaH promised to send who would only speak YeHoVaH's words. That prophet is Yeshua. So this is interesting, because we have those who claim to obey the Torah, but they disobey Yeshua (like the religion of judaism which is just modern day pharisee-ism). It is commanded in the Torah to hear and obey Yeshua, and this is one of the biggest proofs to show that judaism does not keep Torah. Also interestingly, on the other side of the coin, we have those who claim to serve haMashiach, yet do not do as he instructed us and keep the Torah (like the religion of christianity), as he set an example of keeping the Torah, and told us to not only follow that example, but also to teach others to do the same. This is one of the biggest proofs to show that christianity does not have the faith of Yeshua. “Yeshua said to him: ‘you shall love YeHoVaH your Elohim with all of your heart, and with all of your being, and with all of your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment, and the second is like it; ‘you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all of the Torah (Instruction/Law) and the Nevi’im (Prophets).” Yeshua here gives us a brief summary of how to live a life that follows in his footsteps. He makes a statement that has been wildly taken out of context by the majority of so called taught ones and sent ones. The world of religion claims that this just means as long as you feel that you’re loving Elohim and loving your neighbour in your life, that you’re all set. They think that they get to define in their own minds what it means to love Elohim and love their neighbour. This is why you’ll see one faction of christianity/judaism saying that one thing is wrong but another is fine, and another faction saying the opposite for those same things. The issue is that none of them look to the instructions given to us by YeHoVaH in the Torah to determine how we are actually supposed to fulfill these two great commandments. Judaism claims to follow the Torah, but they really don’t, and christianity believes that the Torah is only for those in judaism; can you see how crazy it really is? Let’s get to the truth of what Yeshua is saying. Yeshua was asked by the Pharisees what the greatest commandment in the Torah was, in an effort to cause him to say something in error. Yeshua responded by explaining to them that there are two overarching things the Torah instructs us to do; one is to love YeHoVaH our Elohim with everything we’ve got, and the other is to love our neighbour as ourselves. He then continues to say that all of the Torah and Nevi’im hang upon these two commandments. In saying this, Yeshua silenced any idea that he was teaching against the Torah and Nevi’im, as many people like to claim that he did. Earlier in the good news account according to Mattithyahu (Matthew), Yeshua made it clear that he did not come to abolish the Torah or the Nevi’im, but to complete them. He is the goal of the Torah. The Torah is the schoolmaster that leads us to Yeshua, and in the same way that the maths student doesn’t do away with everything he was taught by his schoolmaster upon graduation, neither do we as students of the Torah of YeHoVaH do away with the commandments of YeHoVaH through belief in Yeshua. We are saved by grace, through belief; it is not of works (man’s vain thoughts about what is right and what is wrong) so that no man is able to boast, for we are the workmanship of YeHoVaH, created in Yeshua ha’Mashiach to do good works which he commanded beforehand (in other words the Torah defines what a true good work is). Yeshua said that anyone who breaks the least of the commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of Heaven, and that anyone who keeps the commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called great in the kingdom of Heaven. He said that unless our righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and Pharisees, then we will certainly not enter the kingdom of Heaven. By that he simply meant that the Scribes and Pharisees claimed they kept the commandments but didn’t, and taught others their own ways of disobedience; in order to enter the kingdom of Heaven, you have to do what the Scribes and Pharisees didn’t, which was keeping the commandments. I believe that in no place is this better said than in Hazon (Revelation) which says: “here is the patience of the set-apart ones; here are those who keep the commandments of YeHoVaH, and guard the faith of Yeshua.” That’s what Yeshua meant when he told us to keep his commandments if we love him. By this we know that we know Him, if we keep his commandments. Anyone who says “I know Him,” but doesn’t keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him; but whoever guards His Word, truly the love of YeHoVaH has been made perfect in him. It is by this that we know we are in Him. The one who stays in Him, ought himself also to walk as He walked. The case that he made is painstakingly clear: all the commandments in the Torah matter; while it is evident that there are “weightier matters of the Torah” according to Yeshua, he does not make any room for disobeying any of Abba’s commands that were all given to us in love. So, back to the main point; Yeshua told us that the two “great commandments” are a summary of everything contained in the Torah and the Nevi’im. In other words, the Torah and Nevi’im teach us how to love YeHoVaH our Elohim with everything we’ve got, and how to love our neighbour as ourselves.

I believe that Dr Hahn would make Richard Dawkins squirm in his chair. I think Dr Hahn would eloquently slay him in a debate. I'm just thinking out loud. I gotta admit, Dawkins really bugs me, all the attention he gets, feeding his Hubris. The man is greatly gifted, enjoys the fruits given to him, scientific discovery and wonder, then he not only won't give gratitude to the Source, but spends his time mocking and deriding it...and so many people are climbing aboard this ship of empty bravado! By my own assessment, America is now the Egypt of our times. There is slavishness of both religious and the irreligious to sin. Vice is virtue, and virtue vice. Very few admit of their sinfulness as enslaved souls. What is sacred? Nobody knows, much less understand. The burning bush is just around the corner.

Believer: Your Relationship with God is simply a profound and dynamic relationship with the self, with your ego. This is why god can seem so very real to you. In a sense he is real. He is you. This is why god's opinions are so very often your opinions. This is why two believers of the same religion can both claim to agree with god's opinion but not with each other. When you pray and God gives you answers you are the source of those intuitions. You are simply having a conversation with yourself and don't even realize it. This is why god can always assuage any doubts of the believer. You see, "God" knows exactly how you think because he is you. He knows your tastes, your biases, and all the gaps in your logic. Therefore it follows that "he" knows what arguments you will find compelling and what mental gymnastics you are capable of to ignore any arguments to the contrary. Ironically I probably can't convince you of anything I stated above because of the very fact that it is in fact true. You are "god". The next time you hear someone preaching or waxing poetic about God, Jesus, Mohamed, or Joseph Smith, change all the names and pronouns you hear them say, in your mind, so that they refer to the person speaking, and trust me you will get a whole new perspective on life. This is why believers have such a strong emotional reaction whenever they encounter a non-believer. They simply misperceive the non-believers' rational skepticism about the supernatural and occult as an assault on their "god" which is to say their own personal identity. There is a vast multitude of religions and superstitious beliefs in the world that espouse many mutually contradicting doctrines. Therefore they cannot all be true. but they can certainly all be false. Even if one were actually proven to be true it would still follow that human beings have a rather remarkable propensity for making up entire religions from whole cloth. I think that all religions and other supernatural beliefs are cultural phenomena of purely human making. Much of this impulse in human culture is driven by people's existential angst, their innate and instinctive fear of death. Their own death and the death of the people they love. It can seem easier to deal with death by convincing ourselves that it is not real. "My loved one is not dead they are in the afterlife", we tell ourselves. And "Of course I will never die! that's absurd!". You all need to grow up. Embrace reality! And make the most of the time you actually do have. You are mortal. Death is real...... Get over it. I sincerely and earnestly do not believe that gods exist. But you have each other. Perhaps that alone could bring meaning to your lives. However, if you insist on believing in supernatural claims at a minimum please do us all a big favor and don't give your hard-earned money to religious pimps and hucksters.

An idol is putting things before God like for example, relying on money and money as your main focus in every second of your life, in your thoughts and actions. God should be recognized as our salvation and the bread of life. : )

Ok that's a lot of theory talk, but let's look at some -imperial- empirical data. What do you have to say about the correlation we observe between religion and general societal health, a.k.a. that the more religious a society is correlates with lower societal health, like homicide, suicide, low life expectancy, STD infection, abortion, early pregnancy, and high childhood mortality? How do you square that with your thesis?

"Be amazed at this, O heavens; be frightened and utterly dried up," says YeHoVaH. The truth will set you free. Your word, YeHoVaH, is truth; sanctify them by the truth. Indeed, not knowing Elohim, you know that you were of the nations, led away to dumb idols and you served things which by nature are not mighty ones; they are just upright posts, and they do not speak. They must be carried because they cannot move on their own. But now, after you have known Elohim, or rather are known by Elohim, why is it that you turn back to the weak and poor elementary matters? Do you wish to be enslaved again? You closely observe heathen days and months and seasons and years, when YeHoVaH has said: "do not learn the way of the heathen." I fear for you, in case by any means I have laboured for you in vain, but I know YeHoVaH's thoughts and ways are much higher than mine, so I am comforted in the knowledge that YeHoVaH has also said: "my Word that goes forth from my mouth does not return to me empty, but it shall do what I please, and shall certainly accomplish what I sent it for." What am I proclaiming then? Am I saying that an idol is of any value, or that which is slaughtered to idols is of any value? Definitely not, but the things that the heathen slaughter, they slaughter to demons rather than to Elohim, and I do not want you to become sharers with demons. Do not be deceived; you are not able to drink of both the cup of the Master Yeshua and the cup of demons; you are not able to sit at both the table of the Master Yeshua and at the table of demons. Have you not read in the scriptures where it says: "do not plant for yourself any tree as an asherah near the slaughter-place of YeHoVaH your Elohim that you have carved for yourself, and do not set up a pillar that YeHoVaH your Elohim hates?" These are the abominable asherah that the scriptures speak of in this way: "the customs of the heathen are worthless, for one cuts a tree out of the forest, work for the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool. They beautify it with silver and gold, and strengthen it with hammer and and nails so that it cannot fall over." They have chosen their own ways and they delight in their abominations, but you should not be so! Do you not understand that your body is the dwelling place of the Ruach haKodesh that lives inside you, that was given to you by YeHoVaH Elohim through Yeshua, and that you are not your own? For our Elohim says: "I am YeHoVaH; I do not change." In the same way, his son, the man called Yeshua haMashiach who is the mediator between YeHoVaH and us, is the same yesterday, today and forever. You were bought with the price that is the blood of Yeshua, so esteem YeHoVaH in your body, and in your spirit which are of Elohim; do not set yourself up any tree as an asherah near your body, which is the dwelling place of the Ruach haKodesh and the slaughter-place of YeHoVaH your Elohim from which you are to offer up slaughter-offerings of righteousness. Do you not know that those serving the set-apart place eat from the set-apart place? We have a slaughter-place from which those serving the tabernacle have no authority to eat; Yeshua suffered outside the gate to make the people set-apart with his own blood. Because of what he has told us, let us go to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach; let us offer a continual slaughter-offering of praise to YeHoVaH through the blood of his beloved son, that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name, for according to the Tehillim, the slaughter-offerings of Elohim are a broken spirit and a heart broken and crushed. He delights in slaughter-offerings of righteousness. Do not forget to do the good works that were commanded beforehand, because we are created in Yeshua ha'Mashiach and saved so that we might go on to complete them. Also, do not forget to share with others. With slaughter-offerings such as these, YeHoVaH is well pleased. It was on the last great day of the feast that Yeshua stood up and cried aloud saying: " if anyone thirsts, let him come to me, and let him who believes in me drink." As the scripture said: "out of his innermost parts shall flow rivers of living water." Here is the patience of the set-apart ones; here are those who keep the commandments of YeHoVaH and guard the faith of Yeshua. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled and quenched.
