Why Clash of Kings is the Best ASOIAF Book??!! ASOIAF Book review and Discussion EP:2 

I think the main reason it’s not referred to as The War of the Six Kings is to further the theme of how Westeros and especially King’s Landing does not pay attention to or care about what’s happening North of the Wall. The Maesters and other people recording the history do not care about wildlings, Others or “grumpkins and snarks” so why would they take note of yet another attempt to invade from the “wildling savages.” That’s what the Night’s Watch is for. Just another example of them being so narrow focused on their own petty politics

The one thing that stood out for me in this book was the Battle of Blackwater. I thought it was portrayed differently from fights that followed. I often got the idea that others seems to pit a certain side as good fighting evil. But this fight seemed really as a political struggle between two opposing sides, no one was good, no one evil. There was good and bad on both sides.

AGOT - Ned ACOK - Tyrion ASOS - Arya AFFC - Cersei ADWD - Jon Snow Daenerys should be the main POV in TWOW or ADOS.

I agree a lot with you about Jon, some people think he’s just sitting there waiting to be captured. But once you analyze and appreciate the writing, the chapters become very, very, very interesting.

Theon Greyjoy is not a grey character. He’s an idiot who got part of what he deserved. Robb does of course start to make mistakes but what really stands out to me is that you can see the rift between Robb Catelyn and his banner men. You also get a good sense of how both Catelyn and Sansa take no responsibility for their own actions and that Arya is very similar to her father Ned. I also learned that Tyrion is not that smart and is incredibly petty and selfish. A Feast for Crows is my favorite book

As someone who’s reading the books and hasn’t watched the show, I wish there was more of a spoiler warning that you were going to reveal things that happen in subsequent books. You also referenced things that happened in ACOK that didn’t actually happen in that book..

I'm just reaching the end of Clash so it's a bit early for me to pick. So far, though, it's GOT just because the TV show is so fresh in my head and the first book and tv show followed so close in their plots. I could see the scenes from the TV show as I was reading 😀

I want to say about the idea of calling it the war of the six kings. I don't think george counts renly in the war of the 5 kings. In the affc prologue one of the maester student says that it should be called the war of the 4 kings as renly and balon were never kings at the same time. I think it is george trying to subtly say that the 5 kings are Joffery, Stannis, Rob, Balon and Mance
