It’s over! The trope of controversial endings better not affect the next Bachelorette season, one which I might actually watch the whole way through! This one I got halfway into episode three and was done!
Hi Fantake, how are you. I pray for you and we will always support your videos. They are always on point, the best and with the most hilarious apt references… love them a lot. I am from India and don’t get to watch full episodes but will never miss any of your videos… I feel connected to Bachelor Nation through your videos ☺️
They've already started leaking who the male contestants will be for the Bachelorettes and there's a set of twins. Looking forward to your take on that.
I'm beginning to wonder if the franchise is now only commited to turn The Bachelor seasons into drama dumpster fires and only trying to convey the romance fantasy (sometimes just barely) for The Bachelorette seasons.
I had a communications professor who used to say “the invention of the train made way for the train wreck” meaning that we create something only to discover it can still have disastrous outcomes.
I dont remeber the source, but i read that when they launched the show, it was a psychology experiment to see if competition would increase the perceived value of something, in this instance, a partner. Marriage takes it up a notch.
This season definitely confirms why Mike Johnson has never been bachelor. Production manipulated Clayton as he had never seen the show and didn’t even have a chance to watch Michelle’s season. Mike is very outspoken and Production knows they can’t control him.
Good point!! Ugh, I absolutely hate production. They are no better than gossip magazines- nothing but drama, no substance, and you feel worse after watching.
mike is also an egomaniac who got run off by demi lovato cause he couldnt keep his mouth shut and then he had the nerve to invite a woman out on a tv show while she was doing her job and she said no
Mike Johnson would be a very boring bachelor because producers would not be able to co tell Mike. Also, Mike as attractive as they say and Imm sure he knows can’t find love irl?
This was the first season I've watched ALL THE WAY through. I've seen episodes here and there, watched a bit of BIP, but this was my first full investment. It seemed like the women kinda woke up to being on a reality show and how bizarre this particular show is while Clayton was FULLY committed to the fantasy life of the show. Very disappointed Shanays ableism wasn't addressed, even on the reunion, but my partner and I have now made a bit of yelling at each other "From the bottom of my heart, FUCK YOU SHANAY!" Gabby is a gem and her "No" face to Clayton when he asks to walk her out gives me life.
To me F Suites is the part where the contestants finally realize how cruel the premise of the show they signed up for actually is, so they look for something or someone to blame it on.
I refuse to believe that Clayton was/is actually a bad person. Bad bachelor? Definitely. But you cannot convince me that the producers aren't just looking for dumpster fire bachelors to get fan buy-in for the preceding bachelorette season. Susie talking about how Clayton had never watched a minute of the franchise told me EVERYTHING I needed to know about why he was picked.
Production's manipulation HELPED Clayton screw up this season so badly. In the past when we have had a horrible season, we generally get a good following season. Hopefully, we will see this happen again. Clayton in and of himself was probably not an "F".... I think Gabby had the right end of the stick. Clayton simply did not have the experience to handle the situations he was in. Production, in my opinion, took an inexperienced Clayton and manipulated him into an "F."
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. Sure, the production crew sways the cast in some ways. But, people still have a moral obligation, in my opinion, to treat people with respect! I mean, has Clayton never been in a relationship before? Of course this isn't normal circumstances, but did he really think it was okay to tell 3 girls he loved them the day before he decided who he wanted to marry, then break up with two of them at the same time? And after reeeeally thinking about it for a bit, have NO regrets at the After The Final Rose? I don't know, I just think of it apart from 'a show' that this is people's lives... I hope Susie is okay and knows who she picked because dude needs some counseling. He talked to her awful the night she left, I was worried for her when she came back. I hope they're happy together, but I believe they've got some stuff to work out.
Shannon, I agree with much you have said.🙂 We know from former contestants that producers stand off to the side unseen and unheard with manipulating questions (we only hear the responses), suggestions, etc. I think perhaps I should have said Clayton was too naive, gullible, and open to the suggestions made to him by producers who wanted if not the total crash and burn they got at least some great drama - so for that I give him a 70 or maybe a 68. Production gets a flat out 25 F- They did a nice job with Serena and with her family, especially her brother. For that and the double Bachelorettes, they don't get a ZERO. As you can tell, I am pretty disgusted with them and Mike Fleiser Dicer.
Honestly..... I agree with your rating and I didnt even watch the actual show...they need to start doing psych evals before picking leads and cast I s2g. So many traumatized people who arent ready for this. Michelle at least seemed to have her shit together unlike the last few contestants.....
The thing that would have made this season 100 times worse is if his folks were like Barb. Imagine if after meeting Rachel his mom started crying for Rachel lol
YES. they clearly wanted to keep shanae there for ratings, but they failed to realize that keeping her there just made a lot of people lose faith in production cause they clearly value ratings over the well-being of their cast
I do agree with how Clayton was naive in becoming the bachelor. If he knew more about what occured in the space, his decision making would have been better. He was mostly flat, showed some emotions at times. In the romance department, we knew how Gabby and Rachel ended up there but for those like Susie and Serene, I felt caught off guard, cause I didn't see anything from them. But then again, as I said it once and I said it again, production is the worst and always loves to screw over people so badly and poorly. When the first moment you hear about Shanene and her mocking the ADHD, and saying this behind everyone's back should be the moment she's gone. That behavior is unacceptable at all.
I love this video, but the idea that this show was ever about romance? The early seasons are deeply misogynistic, literally making the girls parade around in bikinis. Reportedly production, including Chris Harrison, was sleeping with the cast. It's always been a TV show with the central lie that this is a way to find love, but actually we are coming to watch a fantasy, or in later years watch a fantasy carefully destroyed. This season, with their methodical destruction of Susie and Clayton's relationship, was just the evolution of the latter tactic.
Really glad someone said this. It's always been about ratings, and it's not like people in earlier seasons had better track records in staying with their romantic picks. The producers have always seemed to mostly want to torment them all as much as possible for maximum drama and I feel like for the network clearly the only goal has ever been to make money, there's not much indication they ever actually had any intention of finding love for these people.
the thing about all the shanae stuff is that if i were one of the other women, it would have made me lose all interest in clayton. not because he was interested in her, but because he clearly valued my opinion/experience so little by keeping her around after EVERYONE expressed how awful she was in the house.
I think the EDITORS of The Bachelor need to get a grade. Between the audio, not enough time with fan favorites, clunky romance and incoherent storyline the editors make awful choices in putting together a storyline we can believe in. It honestly feels like the editors of the Bachelor don’t believe in the intelligence of the audience. ALSO The format of the show only works if the Bachelor is mature and emphatic and is able to make up his own mind. If they don’t have a lot of experience with dating-it doesn’t work out.
I was sympathetic to Clayton all through this season. I thought he had a good heart, but boy was I wrong. His outburst at Susie and his complete lack of empathy towards Rachel and Gabby. What a creep he is…….and he still has no idea what he did wrong. Disgusting
he didn't do anything wrong, he didn't even raise his voice, and if anything the finger should be pointed at the final 3 because they misunderstand the show
I feel like he graded the cast too low. Granted Shanae was horrible but even mentioned gabby, Genevieve, teddi…etc. Multiple good people outweigh one awful person imo 🤷🏽♀️
yeah I think he just forgot about them because the bad ones where really triggering, even tho there were actually only a few bad apples even tho they where really bad.
Umm they Genevieve and all the other girls were as bad and didn’t do any better than shanae they just were more quiet about it I think he graded the cast good
I feel you're spot on with production. I think all the fault of how the season went down should be split 50/50 between production and Clayton. They HAD to be in his ear and he was gullible enough to fall for it.
They will still want drama. They will finds villains. Since Gabby and Rachel have experience on the show than Clayton, however, I hope they will resist manipulation.
I'm going through all these recaps three+ years later and I just want to say, your editing/jokes are so on point. Delightfully funny but they also support a lot of your points and it's kinda mindblowing sometimes lol
I don't think Clayton's season was as bad as Peter's- 1. Peter was told by Madi about her needs for FS and he still decided to sleep with other women. Clayton never watched Bachelor before and was just naive to the unspoken rules of the show. 2. Clayton actually ended up with his final pick! Gabby and Rachel will also (hopefully) have their happy endings. Peter's season was effectively a waste of time and the Bachelorette was not chosen from his group of women. Just my 2 cents.
@@mitchellmartinsky2299 That's true, but then he could have just sent Madi home and his season wouldn't have blown up. He liked Madi the most but still wanted to be intimate with the other women.
1. So, the thing is while Peter did sleep with others, he was willing to respect her decision and the consequences of his actions as we see when he reacts to her after doing so "Are you sure?" its pretty honest, which clayton did not. Clayton did not respect Suzie's boundaries and personal decisions for herself, as we see him imploding on her without any indication that he respects her decisions just that he's upset she has boundaries.
He is selfish, has zero empathy and it felt very uncomfortable to see him with suzie at he end, he is not even entertaining..why did they do that!! Wrost decision ever!
I started watching The Bachelor with Peter's season and I truly thought nothing could be worse than that. I was wrong. 😂 I will say the end of this season (Fantasy Suites, Finale & ATFR) was extremely compelling television, and I'm super excited for the double Bachelorette, but it does not make up for the terrible mess that made up the season beforehand.
Good call on the session review and using outtakes from "No Way Home". Funny this session could be called No Way Home. The producers need to learn that you need a responsible, coherent and mature person for the lead. You also need someone who IS LOOKING FOR LOVE. Sorry but Clayton was lacking in communications skills, which one needs to be on a TV show, plus he was just a Horn Dog. I hope the next Bachelorette session is handled like Joe Millionaire by not pinning the leads against one another. We will find out come July.
This season is so messy 🤦🏽♂️😂 this is why they should make Rodney become the bachelor instead of Clayton the guy is such narcissistic ,and a train wreck.
Maybe a video on the NZ (and AUS?) double lead seasons, perhaps touching on Joe Millionaire as well, to explore how Gabby and Rachel's season might be done? I know that would potentially be a lot of watch time for you though!
Unpopular opinion but I actually loved Clayton season, it gave the right amount of romance, drama and glamour, yeah Clayton could’ve made better choices but let’s be honest here the season was far from boring
You explain it all so well... Nodded the whole video along. I especially agree that the show went from selling a fantasy to just selling smut. I don't like how it's swerving into Real Housewives and 90 Day Fiancé territory.
I might be in the minority but I don’t think Peter was all that bad… please no hate comments, I think Clayton was just not ready so yes bad bachelor and Juan Pablo was just terrible horrible awful. But Peter just didn’t find love… everyone hated arie and now he’s married to Lauren, the girl he dumped Becca for. Peter has found love elsewhere… just my opinion. No hate comments please
For the lead it should be infinitely more suspicious if someone is totally into you. They have no idea who you actually are. That is a pretty atrocious excuse. Jesus. Do they find all of these people at MLM seminars or something?
This season has left me feeling all over the place. I liked parts of it, disliked a lot of it, enjoyed Clayton when they let his personality shine, really liked Gabby & Rachel, actually fooled myself into believing him & Rachel might make it, loved that image of Susie in that dress in the car, was super confused during fantasy suites, kept defending Clayton and felt completely disgusted in the producers, was completely shocked where this love form Susie came from, tried to emphasize with everyone especially Clayton, then feeling rage towards Clayton & hoping he & Susie fail days after the AFR, to now feeling calm and trying to pretend this season never happened. Still really excited for double bachelorettes!
Well done, Bachelor Fantake, well done! There were so many levels of wrong in this season, I myself didn't know where to start. Yet you were able to articulate the specifics and the recurring, overall disastrous themes that weaved their way through this nightmare. And, regarding the romance, the "chef's kiss" for the grade of F was when Susie expressed surprise and shock when Claytoe said he loved her as even she saw nothing that lead up to that. Pure Disaster Season.
I have a theory that the producers want the bachelor to be a drama-centric shit show and only care about serious relationships on the bachelorette and BIP. after arie's finale, they've cast bachelors that were either not particularly liked by the fandom at the time, or people that seemed naive and produce-able
I feel like the cast deserves a b+ I strongly disagree with you, there are so many amazing girls and interesting “characters,” like the hidden gem Jill, Mara, and all of the top 4. I feel that tis more productions fault rather then the casts fault that their characters weren’t shown, I am sure if we see them in branch off shows they’ll be highly notable and we’ll be deeply attached.
I thought it worked out well with the lead and final three all having a happy ending! What other season has had that? Not really a huge fan of Clayton but I liked the top 4 ladies very much!
IMO a guy that tells a woman what she wants to hear "I love you" or "I'm falling in love with you" right before he hands her the fantasy suite key is not a good guy. Then the way he gaslit poor Susie to make it all her fault after telling her "but I love you the most" didn't help him get her into the fantasy suite bed, is NOT a good guy and most definitely an idiot! I was so very sad to see her get back with him. I can not even imagine how a guy like that will turn most things he does wrong in their relationship into her fault. He already know she's weak to his gaslighting manipulative ways. Very sad.
Ngl fantake when you give Hannah Brown an A+ and Clayton an F even though both of them kept a toxic, awful cast member around despite every other cast member telling them not to I have to doubt your opinion a little. Clayton definitely deserves a D or F for how he handled the final 3 but I’m tired of seeing a double standard in your opinions on women vs men in this series.
Hannah got a total pass for displaying her temper when Luke asked her (before fs) not to sleep with other guys. By contrast, Clayton's reaction to Susie's belated dealbreaker was restrained.
And let's not forget Hannah B ended up with a clout-chaser who had a girlfriend back home, whereas Clayton ended up with a nice, sweet woman, and they both seem happy and in love. Hannah B's season is SUPER OVERRATED. But if Bachelor Fantake didn't have double standards, he wouldn't have any standards at all...
So when are you going to do a run down on the potential men going on Gabby's and Rachel's season?!?! I need to hear your thought! All the good and all the shade! Lol hope you are doing well and recovering well.
The Spiderman references in this video are top notch. "I saw you're file, you're a smart young woman with a bright future, why would you risk it all and get involved with... The bachelor?"
Peter out here trying to rewrite history. The dramatic villain who he kept rewarding WASN'T all-in or gung-ho about him in the slightest. Victoria F. was aloof, cold and distant the whole damn time. It isn't the same thing as Shanay.
Okay so Shanae was terrible for the ADHD comments. But apart from that she was a top tier villain. I have a weird soft spot for her since she did make this season so entertaining lol
AGREED! TOTAL F!! And I've been saying the same thing: nothing personal against Clayton as a person, but as The Bachelor, he was THE WORST! Great video, Fantake!!
Thanks Fantake for your great recap. This season was doomed from the start. I was not a fan of his pick and just hoped I would be proven wrong with a lovely love story. I was wrong. I can't even root for the couple because it just feels like everyone needs to be cleansed from this mess
I loved Clayton's season because of the total mess of an ending. I've watched every season of the show since 2012 and Clayton's ending was the first time I was ever genuinely shocked and entertained by the show.
Ok I was about to watch this but your spoiler alert at 1:20 saved me. Thank you for the warning :P In the words of Arnold, I'll be back (after watching the movie). So excited to see what grade you rate this season :D
I'm back after watching No Way Home and wow! You have a way of editing to make it funny. I agree. Clayton was a horrible lead and Rodney would have been the better option (not pandemic profiteer, Michael A). It almost feels like he was on Michelle's season just because we hated not knowing Matt James as a contestant, so TPTB thought, "hey let's add our guy to Michelle's cast so they don't revolt," then immidiately announced him as the Bachelor before her season even aired. And had those kids pretend like him in that out-of-place scene. They literally had two seasons worth of men to choose from and they chose this Habsburg decendant. SMH.
I'm from Kansas City Missouri so I watched because he's from Missouri. Train wreck is an understatement. I thought he was a narcissist but now I'm thinking he's on the spectrum... I initially liked Susie but now I feel like she's codependent and also wants the limelight.
honestly i think they chose clayton because how easily he is manipulated by production. also this entire season felt like they were trying to do over colton's season
For me, this was the worst season and worst bachelor ever. Clayton (or as so many of the women called him - Clate- ehnnnn) never seemed sincere. When he dusted off his script to tell the 3 finalists that he was going to open up and be vulnerable, and that he was falling or was in love with each of them, that was the most insincere and unbelievable. Kudos to Gabby and Rachel, who showed the most sincerity, grace, and maturity.
I didt bother watching. I was put off so badly by the choice of clayton from Katie's season which left a sour taste in my mouth as well. Is there anything like F+
