Does that explain why my contact prescription feels weaker than the glasses ? I just got contacts today. And, I noticed that I can’t see as far when I got contacts on, but see more clearly with glasses.

This explains why I cant see through the contacts Ive been given, I am long sighted and have been given a weaker prescription. so its 1.5 and 1.25 for glasses, but given 1.25 and 1 for contacts. should I get same strength as glasses or go higher?
Yes u always start with the same axis. Your lenses can turn to a different axis when the lenses comes in to the eyes. So if u feel like u can't see good with your lenses, contact an optometrist then we can see if the lenses are sitting on the 175 axis or not.
Hey Antonio! I recently tried a -2 contacts and it seems so much clearer than my -1.5 prescription. But I just got my eye checked at the optometrist and -1.5 was what they recommended. Is a difference in 0.5 going to make a large difference in my vision?
Antonio, I was wondering if I could get spherical lenses if I have astigmatism of -1.0 in both of my eyes since the toric lenses are too expensive and not widely available where I live. If so how would you find the spherical equivalent of Sph -5.0 and cyl -1.0 ?
Man, you just saved me $125 dollars! I just got my eyeglass prescription in November and I was just about to schedule a fitting for my contacts. My power is OD -2.25 and OS -2.00. I don’t want monthly contacts, I like dailies more. Do you recommend I buy the same power for my contacts then? Edit: I don’t have astigmatism

My spectacles prescription is -4 cyl and -3 cyl, and I recently tried -3.75 and -2.75 contact lenses, but I am getting blurry vision with them. What will be the correct contact lens prescription for my eyes?
Hopefully you can still answer my question. My SPH for right eye is 3.25 while in my left eye is 2.75. The CYL is just same, but my AX for right eye is 162 while for my left eye is 168. What contact lens should I get? Can I get 3.0 contact lens?
The Right eye should be fine with a -2.25 but looks like the left eye could benefit from using a Toric lens, best to see your optometrist for a fit for that one

When I wear my glasses I am able to read far away signs/text/numbers more clearly but when I wear contact lenses I can not see/read texts written as far as I can see with my glasses on. Is this normal? Thanks for this amazing video.
Usually the Rx for contacts is lower on the sphere than the eyeglass RX b/c of how much closer it is when on the cornea. Maybe the BC and a .25 bump in the corresponding eye may be better. The only way is to be able to try different combinations. I wouldn’t trust any Rx from a lab when you don’t feel it’s natural after giving it some time. Also, just fyi - you can have the exact Rx from on different brands of contacts and perceive a slightly different visual experience (if you’re as sensitive as me in perception).

Hi Antonia, thanks for the great video. Lately, I had a big doubt hence stumbled upon your video. One Ophthalmologist prescribed me -0.5 for glasses (he tried if I could get -0.25 for glasses but didn't work), and when I said I'm considering lens, without any further testing he changed the prescription to -0.25 for contact lens. Another Opthalmologist I consulted said that the doctor misguided you and the power should be same for both glasses and contact lens. I understand the concept of distance hence I was convinced with the former doctor. But since the power is mild, should I go with 0.25D lens or 0.5D?

@@AntonioTheOptom Every person and every situation is different, but I find that I get better acuity from contact lenses. If I have a lot of computer or detail work to perform, I greatly prefer using my contacts. I know for many people it's the opposite, but I'm not alone in this, hence my comment that a person's situation should be considered when choosing a method of vision correction.
I would recommend getting a fresh eye test as that will take into account any minor astigmatism you may have, which is not shown in the contact lens prescription!
most eye doctors do not have you wearing 2 different strengths in contacts when they are that close...they will prescribe a -4.00 in both eyes as the brain compensates the difference.
My glasses are 3.25 in one eye and 3.00 in the other eye and I simply get the 3.25 in both or 3.50...I do find when I get the 3.50 in both I have to use readers to see some fine print and when I use the 3.25 in both eyes on contacts I can read fine small print.

You can use contacts but you’ll most likely need to use Toric ones (made a video on this as well), and because your prescription is less than -4.00 you won’t need to convert the vertex distance calculation like I did here! 😀

For the right eye a -1.50 seems appropriate, but due to the left eye having some astigmatism I would consult your optometrist to see if -1.50 would also be appropriate or you may have to use a toric contact lens design!

Hey Carlos! It appears you are experiencing some chromatic aberration. This is when the wavelengths (or colours) refract at different strengths (blue bends more strongly than orange) and therefore you will see small bands of yellow and blue. This happens more when you: 1. Use a higher refractive index for your glasses lenses (but sometimes you just have to use a high index if your prescription is too high) 2. Your pupil size is too wide (I often experience this when I dilate my pupils using a mydriatic). Unfortunately in terms of pupil size there’s not much you can do but for the glasses I believe contact lenses should help minimise chromatic aberration. Give it a go!
Just got exam for both glasses and contacts. For the contacts, one eye was too strong so they adjusted it. In the mean time they already made my glasses. Is it possible this same discrepancy (one eye too strong) was made in the glasses prescription?

Useful video, thanks: but from 1:25, I found the way you place images of glasses & lenses over the columns of the conversion chart very confusing! (image of glasses at left / lenses at right, when chart seems to be the other way; and column headings don’t help! Vertex? Sphere?)
I know this is a late reply to your comment, but maybe it will still help. Lol. This chart is based on a "vertex distance" (the distance from the eyeball to the eyeglasses lens) of 11.5 mm. The middle column is the "sphere" prescription of the eyeglasses. It is written in a positive form or absolute power as prescriptions can be in negative or positive. If your eyeglasses prescription is negative, you look to the left beside the "sphere" column for your contact lens power; if your eyeglasses prescription is positive, then you look to the right beside the "sphere" column. Example: my eyeglasses prescription for my left eye is -7.75, so I look at the "sphere" for 7.75 and since it is negative, I look to the left of the "sphere" to get my contact lens prescription, so it would be -7.12. The contact lens prescription would be rounded to the nearest 0.25 increment, so I would use -7.00. Hope this helped!

For cylinder values below -0.75 lens manufacturers don’t make toric lenses, so we compensate by ‘averaging’ the sphere and cylinder to create what is known as the spherical equivalent power
hi, i still can’t understand why people with cyl -0.50 reduce -0.25 to their contacts. ex: sph. -2.50 cyl. -0.50 then they’ll get either -2.50 (bc some says the cyl. is not a big deal) or a -2.25. is there an explanation to this? like, is reducing -0.25 important for the cyl? 🤔 thank you!
Most Toric contact lenses either correct -0.75, -1.25, -1.75 and -2.25 so in the case where you have -2.50 cyl: sometimes you can only use a -2.25 because nothing higher exists

@@dewiradziwon the maths works out to be a little bit different if the cyl is -0.50. You will need to work out the spherical equivalent. (E.g. -4.00 sph -0.50 cyl) = -4.25. but because of the vertex distance you would use -4.00
