To be honest I don’t take sides over video game movie

The Mario Movie is better than the first Sonic Movie, but definitely not the second one. Sonic Movie 2 will always hold a special place in my heart

I enjoy both I am not say which one is bad or good.

Plus the films did reawaken some Sonic fans' return, and got Sonic back on his feet after Forces' failure rush that left the franchise quiet, plus it got SEGA understanding their characters and lore leading up to Frontiers.

i'm just glad that somebody, SOMEBODY finally made a fully animated video game movie. no cg and live action bs. i like the sonic movies, but having them set in our world had them miss out on the beautiful and unique locations in the games

Same with Junkie XL, since his inspiration for Sonic's music is Tom & Jerry. Take notes from Brian Tyler for his work on the Mario Movie's music. Junkie must not take the cowards' way out as he did with Godzilla vs Kong's Godzilla's theme not being the OG. And prefers making originals over existing tracks. If so, time to replace him with someone who respects the game's music.

Also I forgot to mention that Brian Tyler has a work in Scream VI music. You guys, haven't watched the movie y'all after Scream 5, and after rewatch of the first 4 films.

And second just because humans are in a movie does it mean critics are gonna like it, in fact, they might dislike it more. It’s a critics, literal job to judge movies, and compare them to other movies, so they see a lot more generic tropes (including a CGI character with a human road trip Trop) then we do, and yet you’re saying they like the sonic movie more just because they used humans? Even though those same humans are use as a generic trope that they’ve seen multiple times over? And I haven’t read the reviews for the sonic movies, but I can already tell just like the people who are saying “the Mario movie is the worst illumination movie” the people who thought sonic movie where the Jim Carrey movie, are in the minority. The reason why critics (and pacifically for Sonic 2 audiences) like the sonic movies more is because they have better story, better plot, better character arcs, better character payoffs, better casting, better acting, and just basically are better movies.

The Mario film doesn't have paper than story telling either. The sonic characters in the movie don't have room to breathe and they don't have to care to development. Mario's movie does a fly by every character story in Moto's fast and most of the characters do actually develop

Mario had way better character though than sonic ever did his entire life. Everything didn't die out in Mario and he did development he wanted to rescue his brother and he wanted to show that he and his brother can accomplish anything if they work together..

How the brothers start a business is not really addressed it is shown multiple times I thought they can start a business. Mario didn't act the same way throughout the film and Luigi didn't have any more character development the Mario. Based on certain actions of what both did in the film coma Mario had way more character development than Luigi. With the Mario brothers story it has an effective story and has way better writing with the sonic movie

That is not why the critics like the sonic movie. Mario movie is effective have the characters the right time and they don't need to show how they feel and be neutral about it. The Mario movie didn't pan down and anything. And the sonic movie was liked by critics for other reasons.

The Mario movie is a way better reintropation of the character as a Hollywood reboot on along with the modern mythology than the sonic movies. And the Mario movie being a Russian reboot is way better than sonic is trying to do whatever he's trying to do. Sonic 1 being a prolog for the later films is completely stupid and the film wouldn't it be bloated. Sonic 1 and 2 the films still have more weaker aspects than they do on strong aspects

+Chilli Hog Well Sonic Movie 2 did reach more into it's history that's a blink and miss. The Owl Tribe's symbols relating to Babylons, like they can in the future. Perfect Chaos in Labyrinth Zone's shrine where he could appear in the future too. All this fantastical elements can bring Angel Island.

@@DanPlotMix Still not enough compared to Mario Movie. At least for the Mario Movie, it only focuses only on Mario's journey instead of having 2 side stories (Wedding scene from Sonic Movie 2). Plus they manage to add more classic Mario music than popular music which Paramount needs to embrace for Sonic. Not saying Sonic Movie 3 should be an Easter egg hunt and be 100% accurate to the games cuz a movie should focus on having a interesting story than just finding references, but still Paramount could at least use Sonic music and this time try to focus on Sonic's story only with no wedding scene. I agree with Gamerguy when he said critcs only cares for humans than Sonic lore and since Sonic Movie 3 is going to adapt SA2 story and that have humans in it, Paramount got a nice balance for both critcs n fans. I just hope that Paramount improves in embracing Sonic games and past media just like the Mario Movie dif while still having a great story. Still I appreciate Paramount's way to adapting Sonic into a live action setting since they have a nice balance of following the game's story while still adding some changes like Sonic having an owl guardian, Knuxs tribe have beef with Owl tribe, GUN actually wasn't created 50 years ago in this universe so Sonic Movie 3 might have some changes into adopting SA2, etc. Even tho we obviously know Sonic Movie 3 story is going to be inspired by SA2 story, still we also know it won't be 1 to 1 with SA2 story which makes it more interesting and unpredictable unlike Mario Movie imo (Not saying it's bad for Mario since the games have no story, but still Illumination could also do a better job on fleshing out their characters at but at least). Since the writers also stated that they might take elements from Shadow the Hedgehog and we still have to wait news on Jim Carrey wanting to be Eggman or not, Sonic Movie 3 story might be something fresh depending on Paramount's writing.

I wouldn't defend it because admittedly it broke the pacing of the film being Sonic-focused. At least it gives an idea how they can put the humans on the side, but one thing for sure is not giving them a subplot scenario. Kinda hope since we're in a darker and serious direction of Adventure, as the first-two films were the bright fun Genesis games. Hoping the humans could only be Tom and Maddie, Commander Walter (GUN) and his secretary, Eggman and Stone, Maria and Gerald. Characters that actually pushes the plot forward and it's main animated characters' development arcs. Paramount likes to fiddle with side comedic humans and pop culture references and songs since the Transformers movies by Michael Bay. Even behind the Sonic Movie Team's back as the Zillow product placement. But yea we getting human characters from the games like Maria and Gerald, that'll be enough to shut certain critics up over having more animated characters. I mainly and hugely agree on the films needing Sonic music, but sadly Junkie XL's inspiration of Tom & Jerry for Sonic won't let it fly. He didn't bother using Godzilla's classic theme for example, but made a fan version of it that's on loop every time Godzilla, even Mechagodzilla shows up. They just need a different composer who is passionate to adding style than dramatic horns 24/7. Original Sonic tracks in 3D games stand out more than Junkie's. The writers were quite upset of the lack of game music, were also disgusted Paramount used Uptown Funk, but they're sadly not in charge of the music. Writers wish they took their request more just for the fans much closer as they wanted the Drowning Theme to be obvious than treated as an easter egg for few second fade. They said Sonic Movie 3 is going to be a mixing pot of Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog solo game, while original plot in a mix the previous films' original flares, but more influenced of SA2's tone and writing. Won't be 1:1, will probably follow closely than previously, but mainly Shadow's story. Sonic Movie 2 did it with Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles with a little of Adventure 1 for lore reasons mixed in. Oh, and Jim Carrey said he would return to Sonic Movie 3 if the script is golden and the request is the fat suit to be more what everyone's used to on finishing Eggman's arc.

If Maddie's sis wants to quit cuz she doesn't have much of a role, then I think it would be best for her to do tbh. She still funny n I did like her role in Movie 2, but I don't think they're a big role for her in Movie 3 so she might have to dip for the film. Also 😒, welp that's disappointing for the music side. Sonic is all about energetic upbeat music. Just hearing stuff like uptown funk just doesn't fit Sonic at least and it makes the movie feel like another boring Smurfs or Alvin movie. I wish Paramount would just find a new music composer or at least have the old composer create his own music that feels like they would fit in a Sonic game instead of feeling like another lifeless cartoon live action adaptation music. Even tho I hope Paramount continues to respect Sonic's history, at the same time I definitely want them to do their own thing instead of following what the fans want for the story. I like the Mario Movie but no offense, it just feels like this is what a fan of Mario would write. Not saying it's bad, but Illumination could just step out of Mario's comfort zone and try adding their own elements like how Paramount did with Sonic. Yes Sonic Movie 3 story will be like SA2 story but it won't be 1 to 1 since they'll also grab Shadow the Hedgehog plot (Bet the GUN commander gonna have beef with Shadow since he knew about Project Shadow). Plus they already made a change with GUN by having them being created once Sonic caused the blackout instead of being established way longer. There still might keep the same formula of Shadow's backstory, but i don't expect it to be 1 to 1. Also for Jim, welp still depends on Paramount if they might his demands. I think he will return since SA2 story already have a dark deep plot n Eggman is the big focus for the game in general. Plus ya I don't see why Paramount can't just give him a fat suit. If somehow Jim still won't accept his role as Eggman, then they will be a shock and Paramount has to find a way to write off Sonic Movie 3. Either way at least the plot would be interesting (Hopefully in a good way).

Just ignore the fact that they gave Mario an expanded family tree or changed his backstory back to being a man born in Brooklyn or making Peach far more of a warrior and not a damsel in distress needing to be saved. I get you Sonic fans wanna shit on Mario with every chance you get, but at least know when to give Mario credit where credit is due. The Mario movie may not have been great story wise, but as an ADAPTATION of the GAMES, it did it’s job perfectly. Deal with it.

It’s certainly a good movie, but part of being a good adaptation is trying to broaden the appeal of the source material, and the Mario movie caters entirely to Mario fans. My comment was also criticizing the Sonic fans that have turned on the movie because it isn’t a one to one adaptation of any of the games, doesn’t feature music from the games, etc.

@@Rediscool9 a good portion of the "risks" you just mentioned are literally things people have asked for....the hole peach thing has been and consistent ask from fans to nintendo do something different with her(and the movie is the perfect "reset" for this), the hole origin thing they just decided to took what is most popular, the ordinary public (because of the old movie and other older media) think mario is from brooklyn and the "extended" familly, some of their designs seems to have been made based on some older concepts of mario's family that where never used in games and all(they also bearly play a role in the movie besides mario's dad dissaproval), the movie is a solid 7.5/10, super shallow story(not that it needs to be complicated) but at least to some of my friends(who aren't mario fans nor play that many mario games) have said they felt left off the sworm of references, thus not making nearly as enjoying as it should be. the reason i gave a 7.5/10 is that to me the movie felt like it wanted to show too much too fast and forgot a bit its pacing, it felt like i was watching a bunch of clips.

@WiiManElite To me, and I am a long-time Mario fan. Mario Movie kinda felt like video game references in my face every 6 minutes. And I can't get attached with the characters I loved due to how short-lived it was. Felt like I was watching game cutscenes for an unreal Mario Game. Compare to the Sonic films taking their time developing the characters into their game peak as an arc was more interesting. Even the fantastical elements and game levels slowly being used. And doesn't bother me that few have to wait for Movie Sonic to become Game Sonic in 3. And animation doesn't excuse the film's low-res story as to Sonic Movie 1's story. Both CG and live-action are art, you can do many things with both. It's just the Sonic films are a little more grounded with game's fantastical elements of chaos lore.

Honestly, i kind of even feel bad as a sonic fan seeing the mario movie as better than both sonic's movies, as much as i wanted, i just look at this movie and everything about it is just so. much. better. @@Sansmute I have nothing against references or fanservice but those are supposed to be embellishment *on top* of the story. And SMB had that story being rather basic. And I'm not saying that it was actually bad (like having major plotholes or something) but I think Sonic 2 had more solid story overall.

Considering the NCU and the Smash Bros. movie is inevitable, a F-Zero movie is really plausible since captain falcon was in the series since smash 64.

I mostly feel baffled by the lack of music, humor (besides Jim Carrey and Knuckles), and character animations in the Sonic films. Also The Angry Birds Movies were ahead of Mario when building the animation, soundtrack, worlds, ects.

I got more of Sonic 1's final battle. Since both main characters and main villain explode their way into the streets. I have to admit. Mario's Bowser defeat is way more better than Sonic's Eggman defeat in the first film. Sonic 1's final battle from the startup was corny, while Mario's final battle was set from the start.

As a long-time Mario fan. This movie was okay. Due to fan service and references being put in first and character arcs and story last. And I prefer the Sonic films more for it's character arcs and story that's simple, but big inside as it's lore. And this is from someone who isn't much of a Sonic fan or even grew up with it. Animation and references doesn't excuse the Mario Movie being good. The Angry Birds Movies has more plot and characters with references balanced than the Mario Movie. Even if those Angry Birds movies were are not for everyone.
