Variable or accommodating resistance is the process of using bands to manipulate how load is placed on the body during a lift. Today's collab is with ‪@biolayne1‬ with graphics from ‪@MuscleandMotion‬.

You automatically get that by being born in the US

You can also stand on the band, to get the pull directly from below.

If that snaps. Those balls are gonna give you some progressive overload when you deadlift. No need for bands 😂😂😂

Should I do this on my heavy DL day (main day) or light day (technique day)?

Couldn't you just do rack pulls with more weight?

Yes and no, the bands are very beneficial because not only do they increase the amount of weight you're able to pull as you go higher up in the repetition, they create a virtual force effect ( a force that is there but not recognized) via overspeed eccentrics because it's pulling you down faster than the rate of gravitational pull of 9.8m/s allowing the body to produce more tension and force than if you deadlifted or squatted without band tension. Also just as important, bands teach you proper technique in your lifts because the bands are pulling you literally straight down or forwards and your body now has to accomodate to remain in proper alignment/technique.

My question is, if the bottom portion of he lift is weakest, isn't that the part that needs the most work to improve? So why use bands?

Some would argue you're wrong some would say you're right but for me it doesn't matter. Your muscle grows when it's under tension as it causes those micro tears. Where you're weakest vs strongest won't matter as long as it tears up. Although I would side a bit with bands here as the tension would gradually increase the more stretched it goes so that's some constant progressive overload. But with weights, most exercise utilize gravity but is using your joints as fulcrum. So tension would only peak on the mid part of the lift. Anything below and above that peak would barely have any tension at all. Take for example bicep curls. When you're just holding dumbbells with your arms stretched out. Your biceps really isn't exerting any effort. When you bend your arm 45° however then that's where you get your peak tension. However aa it goes up more then the load would slowly drop again as more of the tension is transferred over to your elbow tendons. If you could flex your bicep to 0° angle then you'll literally have 0 tension over your biceps.

@@helbertgascon This makes a lot of sense, but what if you're training mainly for strength and athleticism over muscle belly size? Would it in that case be beneficial to add focus to the mid section of your lifts?

@@notthefpopelongtimeagogala28 sorry but I don't think I'm qualified to explain something of that level. I'm just a physicist who does bodybuilding as hobby 🤣 And I use both free weights and bands. But for my own opinion, strength is equals to CNS as to muscles equala to capacity. Your muscles just like your bones becomes dense as you workout but our body has a limiter that limits how much we can lift so as to not injure us. Strength training would be working out to increase that limiter we have so gradual increase in load should be sufficient if you just aim for strength alone. Basically strength is just mind over matter. Just like how when your house is burning you literally can lift anything double your weight as adrenaline kicks in 😅 then as everything goes back to normal you realize that you can't lift them again and as the day passes your whole body is struck by an extremely agonizing pain.

Yeah but why is the band pulling him to the front?

It is not. The band is anchored both behind and in front of him to two dumbbells. Just look closely
