Let's not forget that Tyrrell is a team with great legacy. I mean, apart from the X-wings, they came up with the highly performant 6-wheeler in the 70's which lead to other teams researching the concept. And of course let's not forget that Tyrrell, is the team that eventually became BAR in 1999, which became Honda in 2006(?), which became Brawn in 2009, which then became Mercedes in 2010.
I remember these! In 1995 McLaren tried a single 'tea tray' wing on top of the engine cover. Funny seeing the gap of almost six seconds from the front of the grid to the back, and thinking about how much complaining people did last year over a grid that was sometimes separated by less than a second...
Even though they're big, fat, boats, the 2022+ cars are actually good looking for the first time since the early 90s IMO. Previous eras have always had loophole cars that end up being so ugly! X-wings, Viking Helmet, Penis Nose ect.
Sucks that you left out so much of the story, like how the only reason it was banned was because other teams took the design and did it 10x better then Tyrrel cool
DAS technology was technically banned before Mercedes was even on the grid in 2010. The V10 era cars had moving suspension components just like DAS that could be adjusted by the driver to increase performance while running. The system (and any like it was banned before the V10 era ended).
@@KaDuWin Wrong no you don't really understand Das it was a setting just behind the steering wheel to help adjust toe in toe out on the front axle just to help improve tyre wear so I don't know where you got that news source from but it was completely incorrect.
@@MENQN No actually driver controlled adjustments to Toe (in any capacity) were also banned as they are considered part of the suspension setup. Not only did I live through the V10 era but I also have 20+ years of racing in Formula Atlantic, Ford, SCCA, and EMRA under my belt. That requires a driver to setup their car and have intricate knowledge of components. I did not speak as an empassioned newbie fan. I sighted the regs F1 released when it was banned and speak from hands-on experience...."YOU'RE WRONG"

You make it sound like they just picked up some carbon offcuts off the floor and glued them on. 1:05 Clearly they didn't just "re-use parts" from the factory. Everything about that little wing is _designed specifically for what it does._
@@UnitSe7en that's how many things work. When you are trying out something with a low budget, you make a prototype out of what you have. Then when it is proven, you can spend money and make it properly
I also remember someone saying that they were also banned, purely on the grounds of aesthetics. It was pretty-much a given that if there's an advantage to be gained, then everyone will do it, so the net result is that no one will gain an advantage and we'll have a grid full of awful, ugly looking cars.
Yeah might as well ban mirrors on the same grounds then. Sounds like someone powerful just didn't like them and got them banned like has happened with most innovations in F1.
