BRUH, huge props for keeping this video short and sweet at 5 mins. It gets exhausting when every other RU-vidr feels they have to fill 20 mins on every video....
100%. None of the content I “consume” is in 4K, I’m just not paying the premium for such a small gain. Most 4K content is heavily compressed for streaming anyway. It’s not as cut and dry as UHD Blu Ray vs standard Blu Ray now.
Reasons why I’m getting this MacBook Pro for Christmas No Thunderbolt 3 ports So many Ports Lit up Apple logo Keyboard is normal MagSafe HDMI And it’s also my grandfathers
Very cool video bro, I enjoy, indeed I'm gonna buy a macbook pro 13 inch 2015 because it's really worth it in addition to the classical glowing logo which kind of unique now. thanks for your video
My beloved 2013 MacBook Pro is beginning to have issues with the display. I can't consistently connect to an external monitor, and sometimes my display will not function at start up. My battery is depleted My keyboard is unreadable. I am loath to buy a new machine--even a refurbished 2015, as my Adobe suite CS5 will not run on it. I don't want to go to the subscription model for the Adobe suite. About a year ago beggar I moved overseas, I took my machine in to there genius bar and they did still have a battery, but I would have to send it out. There was not enough time before I left, and now a year later, and with the display/monitor issues, I worry it's beyond hope. Is there a workaround?
This is fabulous. Thank you for this information. I've been chugging along on my 2011 Air and she's slowing down, the poor girl. And I have been DREADING dropping a few K for a new machine. This helps so so much.
How did it act during video editing? Could you playback at all? I’m looking for something for light editing on the go - putting the timeline together - and then transferring it to my dedicated PC for color, animation, and rendering.
I would get the AMD R9 m370x version of this if you want to edit in 4K. It'll be much faster, especially if you're using Adobe Premiere or Davinci Resolve.
Hi Ben. Like yourself, I was a graphic design professional for many years but now I’m just a hobbyist. My 2010 MacBook Pro finally gave up the ghost and I’m very conflicted about which replacement I should pursue. There are plenty of 2015 models available from reputable, refurbished retailers, and judging from your review and others this is certainly a stellar laptop. My biggest concern is having to fork over for the new Adobe creative cloud as opposed to running my old CS2 package without subscription fees. I was diligent about running the time machine backup to an external hard drive, so I’m wondering if there is another model I should pursue that would allow me to reinstall the older software & OS that would allow me to continue using that software for free? And secondly, I’m really attached to my older USB-based peripherals such as a Kensington mini mouse, aforementioned 2-jack external HD, iPod Touch and USB expansion ports. Wasn’t sure if those peripherals will still run if I elect to go with a newer MacBook Pro?
@@flameattack6318 Replying to your comment from same mac. I really do love it bro. It will hit 5 year mark this 15th March 2021 cos I bought it on 15th March 2016. Using it daily ever since as my main daily driver laptop. I have a backup laptop too that I rarely use for light tasks. It's hp elitebook. MBP I use 24/7 and I'm a power user, software developer. It has gotten even better with M1 chips. I will be buying 14 inch redesigned mac when it comes out.
Honestly, I have NO idea. It is at their own discretion, and more often at the discretion of that support person you are speaking with. Recently my 2015 needed to go in for service and they covered everything for free. Motherboard swap, new hard drive, and all the service. The lady talked to was amazing. But when I wanted to get back 2010 MacBook Pro worked on in 2013, I went into the Apple store and the person said, sorry we don’t support this model any more. So if you can or go in and get a response you don’t like, I would just keep calling until you get someone that is helpful. THAT IS IF you need some repairs done. I hope this long respond was helpful :)
Thank you sir!! I bought a used MacBook 13 mid 2015 yesterday and it soo good.. coming from windows its very refreshing and it’s one of the best “first” MacBook you can get
Stranger tbh it’s pretty good!! I bought it when the charge cycle was at about 200. Today, on full charge and average brightness it easily gives me 10 hours of use !
looking at a 2015 MacBook Pro for $300 CAD. says its battery is dead and "is hung up on the OS installation" this would be my first attempt at a fixer upper laptop. My area this normally goes for around $500 CAD. should I go for it?
Macbook Pro i7 2.5 GHz 15" 16GB 512GB SSD (Mid 2015) MJLT2LL/A JUNE 20th purchased with a bad screen with horizontal lines & some verticle lines far left, any clues to what's wrong with it or how to fix it or should I fix it $265 total price so I want to fix & use it... Thanks!
Just created a brand new video that I think you will find very helpful. It has color gamut tests in it near the middle of the video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N-UFKClVVyY.html
I have a 2015 MacBook Pro I7 also. It still rocks. I was thinking of upgrading, but I will probably just hang on to it for a couple more years unless I can get an I9 on the cheap.
A friend is selling the 2014 model (same spec as the 2015 you reviewed), but my guts would rather go for the 2015 because it’s newer and I want to use it for video editing. But I’m also on a tight budget. What do you think please?
If it is a friend I am sure they will be more honest with you about the condition, but you will still not get a warranty from your friend, I am sure... Lol. ;)
I have enough for a new laptop- saved up, but I like the prices for the refurbished 2019 16" macbook pro. Do you think those would have battery issues? I do graphic design work, mostly from home. Thanks. Also send me your link to the 2019 16" macbook pro because if I do decided to buy new I want to give you some credit.
Honesty, no. The battery should be in pristine condition. If you purchase an Apple Refurbished model it is tested even more extensively than the new models. I just had my 2015 refurbished by Apple and it is running really well with optimal battery life. If you decide to snag a new MBP 16in I would be most grateful if you used my link. Thank you very much for asking - geni.us/i7MacbookPro16 😃
Anyway you guys avoid those sharp corners at the end of the track pad? It’s like my only gripe with the laptop’s design. I haven’t owned any MacBooks before but I’m getting one for super cheap. I’m just worried about getting my finger/wrist/arm poked. I know this may be random lol
I love the 15"inch but i like 13" more because of the smaller size. I mostly work on UI design..is core i5 enough or is it safer to invest on core i7 for future?
@@BenGKaiser thanks for replying. But I have a important question. My father buy me a laptop laptop last month Im 15 years old , I want to earn money . Can you please tell which skill I can learn with my laptop totally free and after learning that skill where I can get work for money. I'll be happy if you reply.
You can video edit with it, although it will be substantially slower than equally priced alternatives. Check out the video on my channel "Best video editing laptops under $1000".
Hey, I need help in buying a macbook pro. I have 500-600 budget. First time owning one, Its going to be my main laptop from now on. I dont really dont all that much intense things. Maybe drawing from my tablet, watch tv shows, movies, and blog. Any help will do and links. Thanks
Exactly what I did - but it was a 2014 MacBook Pro, bought in 2018. I run the CC on it and it works fine, but I am using Macs since 1989, so every Mac to me nowadays looks fast and furious. Anyway, the actual reason why I bought this MacBook was, that I started a new job as a software developer and they gave me a brand new hp elite book to compile my work (Angular, JASS, etc.) on it. Working on that machine was really frustrating because it had a terrible and dim screen and compiling took so long. The problem was, that I had to wait 3 years for a new machine, which than could also be a Mac. I did not wanted to wait that long and bought a MacBook Pro with 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM from 2014 and this thing outperformed the elite book at least twice in it's compile time speed and uncountable times in it's ergonomics. Then they felt pitty on me and gave me a brand new MacBook Pro 2019 with 32 GB RAM and i7 octacore, so at work (and at home) I've now got the fastest 15 inch MBP that was ever made :-) passing the 2014 to my wife, where it now idles in pages, mail and safari.
What would you consider To be the best over all MacBook Pro on a budget In the 2012 to 2015 range for a very lightweight user? I am a real estate agent that uses a computer mainly for web browsing and occasional downloading of pictures to put on a exterior source for saving. Thanks
Hm thats what most of my work is. Large format images. Getting small jpg or tiff and blowing them up 50x plus. Would be interesting to know what detailed specs are also a next tier up or down in this range.
Thanks for the review! The one that I am picking up (macbook pro (retina display, 15 inch, mid 2015) have their left speakers which aren't working well. No idea if I should drop it or pick it up. Also any quick test to figure out if machine is working well?
@@ShurikenBobomb yea I got one like 850 b condition is fine clean I was thinking MacBook Air 2018 amazon renewed but I wanted bigger laptop and these have ports and everything and better specs its 2015 bt still beast laptop design as well so I went with the 2015
soooooo you don't like the new mbps that require a dongle to connect displays but you say well you get hdmi to display port dongles to connect displays.....ok?
Don't forget to take advantage of the apple extended free battery replacement program if you have a 2015! Very helpful if you bought a used machine with high cycles.
According to my experience the battery replacement program is a totally scam. I took it to the Genius Bar and they ask $1400 for damage before the battery replacement
Wanting to buy a used one is it worth buying ? School used and home use mostly I don’t like my window laptop because it’s so heavy I want a light simple laptop 💻 and I can’t afford a new one at Apple 😔
im torn between the 2016 version 1tb or the 2015 version 1tb the price difference is 500. which is more worth it? like is the 2015 still really good for producing music and using protools
The best place to buy used computers is on Craigslist; or Letgo or OfferUp. Since it's local, you get to see/test them in person and negotiate. I just got mine on Craigslist for $600. Virtually mint condition with 2.8GHz, quad i7 and dual video cards (a must for video editing/rendering).
Got this last week. I'm amazed that it handles my (huge) excel files even better than my windows laptop. Thinking of replacing battery though as I need more juice (just in case of power interruption, which are quite common during the rainy season where I live). Any suggestions or advice in that regard?
Yeah, I would try to find an OEM from Apple, or find a highly regarded reproduction of the Apple battery. Read lots of review on the battery manufactur before you purchase.
Roberto Pineda Jr where did you get yours? I have a 600$ budget and i really want and need the 2015 mbp to do my daily things including schoolwork, entertainment, etc.
Q: so I’m in the market to buy a MacBook Pro MacOS Sierra for a about 400 from a pawn shop, everything looks great audio and physical with 235 battery life 8gb of ram 125 gb is there any gamble in taking or is it worth it ? Also would it be goood for music recording?
So far from the limited videos I've seen from you , they are concise and informative. Recently purchased a used 15" 2015 Macbook Pro based on your recommendations from mac of all trades. Should be here today. Question, I want to run ON1, Lightroom, and maybe capture 1 Pro on it. How do I put it through its paces for operational ability? I have 14 days for full refund if it doesn't match up. Please advise, thanks.
I would run though your programs with the maximum workload possible and see how it performs. If you are happy, keep it... if not then return it. That's my recommendation.
Just bought a used unit with 65 battery cycles (Battery capacity at 8830 mah) for USD1,028. Specs: 2.5Ghz i7, 500GB SSD, 16GB Ram & 2GB graphics. Open up the back cover and did a full dust cleaning on the board and fan. Hope this MBP will last for years to come. Still have the 2012 model with new battery from OWC (Newertech). Not a fan of the newer USB type C MBP
Hey I love how interactive you are! I would love a bit of your advice. I’m looking to get into graphic design and music production. Found a MacBook Pro 15”, 16GB RAM, 500 GB, 2.0-3.2 GHz for around a $900. Good deal for a beginner or can I save some money with less RAM OR GB?
I have this and 2020 it still works awesome (knock on wood) - the battery life comment is accurate I have noticed a decline jn the battery life but I’m okay with it
Cycles might not mean much. The initial full battery capacity is 6560 mAh. If you look at the Power section of the System Report section of About This Mac and the Full Charge Capacity is much lower - you can see the real condition of the battery. Replacement costs $250 and you cannot do it yourself. The battery is glued to the topcase and requires pretty involved work.
how much would you pay for a Macbook Pro Retina 15" mid 2015, 16GB RAM, i7 2,2Ghz 4-core, 256GB storage and 203 battery cycles? Thanks, super ur video.
Great video, Ben! Short and to the point! 👌You've earned another subscriber! :P I am SO tempted on getting a 2015 Macbook Pro solely because of the port selection and reliability. I'm still using my 2015 Macbook Air and it CANNOT handle Unity or Xcode AT ALL. After Christmas, I think I'm going to sell it along with my DisplayLink. I will either get this Macbook Pro or a 16 inch base model Macbook pro with my amazon gift cards and revenue from selling my macbook air. It looks like they fixed a lot of the problems previous macbook pros had in the new 16 inch Macbook pro. I'm mostly going to be using it for Unity and iOS Development. What do you think? 🤔 Should I save some money with the 2015 Macbook pro or just get the new 16 inch macbook pro? I keep going back and forth.
It all depends on the tasks you are trying to perform with your laptop. Please let me know what you will be using it for on the day to day and I would love to make a recommendation.
I am on a budget, is it worth to buy a macbook pro 2015 in the start of 2020? If yes why or if no, which would you suggest? I need one for graphic designing.
Yeah, I would! I would recommend an i7 with 16gb of RAM if you are sticking to Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator. If you are getting into video editing I would not recommend it. IT is pretty laggy during the playback timeline.
I was debating on getting a 2015 macbook pro but I bought the 2019 13 inch with quad core instead. It's a really solid machine. Sad thing is I catch myself getting back on my 2010 macbook pro more than my new one lol.
Looking to buy a Mac book Pro 15” mid year 2015 just confused on which graphics I should get I’m looking for more reliability and I heard they had some overheating issues due to graphic can you give me a recommendation on what route I should go. I’m looking to code and do graphic design on it. Thanks look forward to hearing from you
I have not had any thermal issues on the model I own. As long as you are designing and doing some coding your temps should be fine. It is when you get into video editing that things start to heat up.
Get one with 2.5ghz or 2.8ghz, with 512GB SSD - 1TB. Ben's 2,2ghz is okay, but less strong. Typing this on my 2.5ghz 512Gb SSD one 15" MBP. Not much of a spec bump between 2.5 and 2.8. Just better dedicated graphics, unlike the 2.2.ghz models. Bought mine on eBay. Was astonished how good the condition was. Had no scratches on screen or dents on the body, anywhere. Was effectively brand new, which I couldn't believe then, and still can't now. I was lucky, but did my research to maximise my luck. Make sure to ask for extra pictures if the listings look suspect. Lot of pirates trying to sell one in poor condition at inflated prices. Be patient, have alerts on, and pull the trigger when you see one that matches your criteria spec & conditionwise. It's a lovely laptop, especially if you find one in good condition. Also look for one with a low battery cycle count as you won't have to buy a new battery for a while soon. Bought mine with only 122 cycles. change the battery when it gets to 1,000. Had mine for a month at the time of typing this.
i just bought a 2015 mac book air, I got it so i could edit my videos but im not shooting in 4k. I shoot 1080p at 60fps so should my imovie be able to handle that? thanks :)
Yes, I would recommend it for Music production. Full storage is not going to cause the lagginess... you want to make sure you have 16gb+ of RAM. When you don't have enough RAM you will find more lagginess when you have multiple applications open.
I bought a mid-2015 15 inch 16Go Ram, 512Go SSD (replaced by a 2To), 2,5Ghz quad core i7, Radeon R9 for music production and HD video editing. Installed Mojave (because I still have 32 bit apps), Final Cut Pro and the latest version of Logic Pro X. All my studio gear is connected to it, including my old Motu 828 mkII Firewire sound card (using the Apple Thunderbolt/Firewire dongle). It replaces a mid-2012 13 inch MBP wich became to slow to run the latest plug-ins. I’m mixing mostly 32 audio tracks @ 24/96khz with hundreds of plug-ins (compressors, limiter, EQ, on tracks, Reverb, Delay, Multipressor on 8 buses) without any problem. I’m not as aware for virtual instruments, but for the ones I use it is more than enough powerfull. Hope it helps.
I found a 2015 MACBOOK PRO 15 | RETINA | 2.8GHz i7 | 16GB RAM | Radeon R9 M370X.. QUAD CORE WITH 4.0GHz TURBO BOOST / 8 CORE - HYPER THREADING 2TB FULL PCI-Express SSD For around $1500.. I will be video editing 1080p some 4K. Do you think this computer could handle?
Looking to get a macbook pro 2015 either 13in or 15in with 16gb RAM; besides regular tasks, main use for it would be as a portable video editing machine - main machine being iMac - on FCPX and the majority of vids still edited at 1080p with possible 4K vids in the near future. I would prob use a samsung ssd for files and export final projects on iMac after done editing on macbook. Think it'll hold up for a few years of use? Also, on the fence between 13in for more portability (and a lil cheaper) or 15in cuz quad-core; I feel 13in with i7 should hold up but not sure. Any thoughts would help
Hi thank you for sharing the information. I am in middle confusions of choosing a laptop from my two options the Macbook pro 15” 2015 mid(used ,mfg in 2016 based on serial number)with the same spec mentioned in the video and a brand new lenovo ideapad L340 with i7,16gb ,4gb, 1Tb +256 ssd. Please give a choice by comparing the performance and price. 900USD for MBP and 1100USD for lenovo ideapad L350. Thanks in advance.
Both will be similar in performance. This comes down to what Operating system you prefer. If you like Mac OS, I would choose Mac, but if you like Windows OS, then go for the Lenovo.
2015, for me, represents the pinnacle of Apple. Best all-around MBP laptop. Best all-around iPhone (6S). Both of which I'm still using today. I should note I run many vector apps for UI/UX purposes, and never feel the need for more speed.
would you buy this over the new MacBook air which went back to scissor. Im worried about obsoletion because you might only be able to get 3 years of support left.
Hey Ben, thanks for your video. I am trying to by a MacBook Pro and after reading all reviews with the butterfly Keyboard issues I am not confident on buying any Mackbook pro form 2016 to 2020 ( besides the 2020 MacBook Pro 16 that doesn’t have it, but is extremely expensive) I was seriously considering on buying a 2015 MacBook Pro 15, but I am a little bit concerned with the OS updates. What is the latest update available for MacBook Pro 2015? How many years of OS updates do you think it’s left? Thanks!
I currently use a 2015 Macbook Pro at my day job and it is great. I would not be concerned about buying one. Just make sure you find one in good physical condition. :) P.S. I totally understand, the new Macbook Pros are PRICEY!
Thanks Ben for your prompt feedback! So in your opinion for how long do you think that Apple will be giving updates on the MBook 2015? I am afraid the adobe suit will stop working properly because of incompatibility with obsolete OS systems or the antivirus patch won’t longer work. Thanks so much :)
I have the 2015, 15", R9M370X. It's an awesome go between (Mac Pro ) for it's age. I'm impressed that it gets it done even if it needs more time. The 370X gets a tad toasty in render. Agree, it's stylish, love the glowing Apple w/ a retro 1979 Apple Cinema gel. I only wish it came in a 13" dual GPU, quad variant. Would be travel perfect on planes.
