This is what happens when you have a universe that has 1.) Burned fans many, many times (I mean the villian is Zod...again) 2.) Got lukewarm reviews at best and a low cinemascore and 3.) Has a problematic, and that's being nice, star who can't do press. Also, I think they mjaorly overestimated the nostalgia factor. My wife is thirty-four and she was one when Keaton started. No affection there. Plus, I had to explain the Cage thing to so many. Basically, not to be flippant, this was the perfect storm of crap.

I saw the movie and really liked it. I think multiple factors caused this movie to fail: 1. Ezra really had an impact on audiences and especially movie critics. 2. General audiences are not interested in the Snyderverse 3. Superhero movies are failing to recapture that spark that the MCU once did (that includes the MCU). 4. Movie budgets are too high for the current climate. Theaters haven’t recovered to pre-pandemic levels, so they really need to start putting out these superhero movies at 150 million dollar budgets or less, so that 300+ million box office take is no longer a bomb. Also they need to push back streaming dates. 5. Lastly, I truly don’t believe it’s poor story telling, but the whole connected universe is no longer novel.

Not going to lie, in terms of the story, It's a herculean task to follow up the Spider-verse movie, when both movies have a similar concept of "trying to change fate" especially when the other movie in question challenges that and flash just kind of says, "there's nothing we can do but accept it." of course, there are a ton of studio issues, but just as a viewer it's not hard to see why the flash bombed.

Dan hits the nail on the head. Movies are so expensive, on top of how much money everything else is these days. I have Max, I'm just gonna wait on Flash. If my girlfriend and I are dropping $30+ on tickets alone, it has to be an event movie, and the theatrical experience needs to offer something I won't get at home. I still plan to see Spider-Verse, but the last two movies I saw in theaters were Guardians and The Batman. Those movies were over a year apart.
@rlee7389

@@rlee7389most people TVs are decent enough at this point. Also times are hard, if people can save $40 bucks somewhere for waiting 45 days then they will. my fam saw spider verse in theaters, the flash I'll wait and for Mission Impossible I'm back in theaters
@DrDinoNuggies
@DrDinoNuggies Год назад
But they’ve always been expensive. I run a nice theater with reclining seats and our prices have only gone up around 75 cents since COVID. A movie ticket at a nice theater has been over $10 since the 2000s. But streaming wasn’t an option. That’s the major difference.
@doorsfan173
@doorsfan173 Год назад
@@rlee7389 it's a matter of priority. I only have so much money, I have other hobbies and mandatory expenses, and what I get from the theatrical experience just doesn't enhance my enjoyment of the film that much more (story moves me more than the audio). There are other things I use the money for that give me a higher personal yield of enjoyment. Two movie outings is nearly $60 for my girlfriend and I, and when we decide we can skip a couple and wait for streaming we have already budgeted for, that alone covers most of a new video game we will both play, which we get more hours out of and often enjoy more. Please don't get me wrong though, if the better audio/visual setup is what gets you into the theater then more power to you, it's all a matter of where you get the most enjoyment for your hard-earned money and I don't begrudge that for anyone.
@doorsfan173
@doorsfan173 Год назад
@@DrDinoNuggies The theater nearest me has gone up more than that, and as I mentioned in my comment and can clarify here, the cost of other things has as well and perhaps that is the more important factor. That has made me more conscious of where I put my money and how much enjoyment I am getting out of where that money has been going. I've realized that the theatrical setting only enriches my experience so much more than when I'm at home. The sound and screen just doesn't move the meter for me that much. Additionally, not going to the theater a few of times I otherwise would have saves enough money that I can use it for other things I frankly get more enjoyment out of as someone with multiple hobbies. As I said to another commenter, don't get me wrong, I don't judge others if what they're deriving enjoyment out of is going to the theater.

A few reasons 1. Because it wasn’t anywhere near as good as it was hyped up to be by the studio lol. That’s the main thing. It’s just a forgettable movie and they put way too much time, effort, and money into it. 2. Spider-Man was just that good and folks are still seeing it, and for those who are only gonna see one film or so a month Spider-Man based on reviews and word of mouth was an easy pick 3. Some skipped it due to Ezra, and folks that were on the fence, to begin with hearing that the visual effects are substandard may have helped them decide to just wait for it to stream on Max in a month. Ezra's performance on-screen didn't help either. They're a weak actor in everything I've seen them in, so making me watch them double was bad business.

My issue with Fisher is pretty clear to me. He accused Hamada, and I am talking his first allegations not when he summed them up not later when he edited them, of enabling and permitting racist things on the set of Justice League. But Hamada did not get hired till JL was out of theaters. So how the hell would he have been there to do that? It was clear that Fisher meant the previous head of WB, but when told that instead of going "Oh shit got the wrong name, this guy is the bad guy." and just admitting he got the story wrong he doubled down and keep hammering on Hamada who again did not get into the studio till months after the movie was released. Then he changed the story. Then it became he called Johns a racist (Johns is asian btw, and this was during the big anti-asian harassment shit that was going on so F Fisher for that) and claimed he was editing footage oto make people look lighter and that he was telling him what to do and he wanted him fired for it. And yeah Hamada is not gonna fire one of the bigger names in DC over normal editing of footage (two types of film were being used so they had to color correct, and even Fisher admitted later he had only HEARD about color correcting being done on the film not seen it) and telling someone to say Booyah is not racist so why hell would he fire him for it. Then Fisher kept doubling down over and over when it was clear he was wrong time and again. I see it clearly as Fisher got pissed that while Snyder had him as a pseudo-director and pseudo-star of the movie and let him have his way. Whedon didn't and the movie was changed to make him a bit role. whedon is shit, agreed, but Fisher seems to be pissed no one was bowing down to him on anything. Then he either got confused and named the wrong guy and then never apologized and clarified, or he made up a claim and didn't know Hamada was a new hire and so couldn't be pegged down with any of his bs.

Two major reasons why this movie failed. The vfx certainly is NOT on the top of the list because we really didn't know the vfx was that bad until we actually saw it. So no. The movie failed because of 1) Brand Damage. We, as an audience, and DC fans, don't trust these people anymore, and 2) Ezra Miller. They fucked up. What WBD should have done, instead of hiding Ezra, they should have had them in front of every press circuit, answering questions, kissing ass, whatever they gotta do to show they are on the right path. A poll was taken about that . 80 percent of the audience who saw this movie were male, 20 female. Women are not happy about the grooming allegations. Whether or not they did it is another story, its the accusations alone that cost them a blockbuster.

What I don't like about DC (both movies and everything else) is that I feel like DC Comics takes itself way too seriously and tries too hard to be edgy dark and grungy. Marvel movies are very bright/colorful, humorous/whimsical and just... _light_ whereas DC movies just... DC movies don't have that je ne sais quoi that Marvel movies have. Marvel movies mos-def have ***alot*** more heart, spirit and personality than DC. @fduranthesee I don't get any heart and emotion from Marvel movies, it's just a bunch of bland movies that blend together and I feel actually caused superhero fatigue to begin with. The repetitive marvel formula and sameness of almost all the Marvel movies had made me check out. The spiderverse movies are the only good "Marvel" movies that came out besides GOTG 3. I think DC movies are at their best when they stop trying to connect everything. I'm still excited for James Gunn's DC universe, but I still think DC shines in its standalones. I mean, look at The Batman. Also, a thing I can most of the time give DC movies is that they look a lot better than the average Marvel movie. The directors are allowed to express their creativity, especially recently in DC, while in Marvel I never really see that besides when James Gunn directs a movie. Even The Flash, with its horrible cgi at times, is a better shot and creative movie than most plain Marvel movies. I think Marvel should give their directors more freedom and lighten up on the amount of movies it pushes out. DC is heading in a great direction with James Gunn especially since they had no plan for their universe beforehand.

personally didn't go for Flash because it never felt like it was pushing DCU continuity to anything new. I loved Peacemaker and Suicide Squad, and I'm still looking forward to seeing where Gunn will take things, but I just don't care about WB dumping out DC movies from before signing on Gunn, esp after they canceled nearly everything else. Don't know if this is true for people at large, but MCU has trained at least me to expect continuity from superhero movies, which gave me a reason to watch the more middling ones. But when these movies are standalone and overall uninteresting, I just don't care to see them

I just want to say I did enjoy the experience of watching The Flash in theaters and it was worth my time and money. That is only because I knew it was so bad that it would be fun to just sit back and relax. Also you cant just say that the cgi is bad and then move on. The cgi is atrocious and makes this movie just hilariously bad. Everything is under performing this month besides spiderverse. Maybe just maybe Transformers, Elemental, and the Flash are just bad movies from bad directors and bad writing( acting ranges from bad, good, and great). People wont spend money on bad movies. Meanwhile people are going to see spiderverse multiple times and buy the movie when its available. Crazy thought, the studios should make good movies. Might work. Also watch the Barbie movie, one, beat Oppenheimer, and Two destroy the box office haha.

Gotta agree with you guys, I can't stand Miller as a person and barely even as an actor and seeing the character in double was even more of a black mark.. The movie was already declared pointless with all the bullshit going on behind the scenes and I might just a swell wait for a supercut later that just condenses it into the Batsy and Supergirl scenes and dumps all the worthless stuff in the trash where it belongs. This right on the heels of the CW finally putting the Arrowverse out of its misery, 4-5 years after they should've given it the mercy bullet to the head, didn't help either. And with the 453777377524674358th Bayformers movie with grey blurry polygons whirling around and even used toilet paper having a better story than their movies, that's something I'll maybe pick up on streaming one day, but maybe just forget it even exists. The only thing that's then left is the new Spidey and with my local cinema only showing movies with the original audio (no dub) at times when there's no buses driving anymore (adding the costs for a taxi for the return trip) I'll wait until it's on streaming instead of wasting 15-20 bucks on half an hour of trailers followed by two hours of idiots who can't shut up. Nothing of the overhyped stuff the studios pump out there, seems worth going to the cinema to me, especially if you add the horrendous prices on top.

I knew that even if the movie was decent it would still most likely bomb for several reasons. for one it's a dead movie-verse. no point in audiences caring now since it's over. too high of a budget with too much expectation of a profit. the hero of the movie is an irl villain, etc. the list goes on. but yeah this was almost destined to fail. but despite all that I've actually heard quite a few good things about the movie itself. so if you can divorce the movie from everything else going on around it, then there is apparently at least some enjoyment to be had there

I saw Flash immediately after the new Spider-Verse. It's not terrible in comparison, but considering how similar they are in concept, Spidey outpaces it by merit of ALL the character writing and creative visuals being 110% solid. And no, that isn't a dig at Flash's effects. Only one made me raise an eyebrow, but they were consistent and this whole "ugh.. not good enough effects" argument is tiresome.

@DanV900
@DanV900 Год назад
Nolan was never going to direct Superman and you made that up. David S. Goyer pitched his idea in 2008 to Nolan and then Nolan pitched the idea to WB. WB went with it and then Nolan was hired in a producer capacity where he was involved in Man of Steel. Guillermo del Toro turned it down along with Robert Zemeckis. Zack Snyder was hired in October of 2010. They started casting the next month and then they started filming August 1, 2011. Nolan had to be convinced to have the Zod snapped neck moment. Nolan was making Dark Knight Rises at the time and was never going to direct it.

@DanV900
@DanV900 Год назад
@@kenistheticzero3612 I mean it’s not exactly something that takes agonizing research to find out Nolan wasn’t going to direct the movie, but he was involved creatively as a producer. Well yes, David S. Goyer who worked with Nolan on the Dark Knight trilogy helped a lot with his original pitch which is how Nolan has a story by credit for Man of Steel, but Goyer has the sole screenplay credit for the movie. Of course the success of the first 2 movies led to the grittiness of Man of Steel especially with the people involved. Then Nolan had nothing to do with future movies. Man of Steel wasn’t even supposed to start a universe and then WB panicked with it underperforming so Man of Steel 2 became BVS with forcing in Batman to catch up to the MCU so that MoS retroactively started a universe. Nolan didn’t want to be part of that.
