​@@LilSnotbag when I was in basic, we used 3rd party payphones outside the barracks. They were installed and maintained by the civilian sector. I know there's tech to listen in, but there was definitely nothing like that applied to the phones we used in basic. Now there are cameras everywhere you turn when you're outside, and they are all mic'd up. The problem is, when new privates are waiting in line to call home, it's like 6 privates all talking quietly as possible at the same time, and the rest are standing in lines a decent distance back to give privacy. With 6 privates all talking at once as quietly as possible, there would be no way to distinguish each individual voice and hear them clearly from the distance the cameras would have been. Every post I was stationed at, that held basic training, was set up the exact same way. The military is nothing if not consistent, and they are definitely not wasting the tech and manpower to listen in on each individual phone call. The simplest explanation is the most likely. One or two drill sgts were standing close by timing the phone calls as always and one of them overheard it. The military has a lot of tech, but it's nothing like the movies portray. They drastically overpay for everything they have, so they definitely aren't using any kind of expensive tech to listen in on new private's phone calls. Most service members don't have access to any expensive tech like that, and seeing how new recruits have no access to sensitive information, they would never see that as a security threat to employ tech like that. It would have definitely been just a few drill sgts standing close enough to overhear and the dumbass that did it, probably intentionally said it loud enough for everyone to hear because he thought he was gonna impress the other recruits with his dumbassery

Either way, it’s a good lesson to learn early, though I’d rather learn what to do when you get to your unit and you receive illegal, immoral, or unethical orders. Whom that’s reported to, have someone explain what happens if reprisal becomes and issue. Also, hilarious when her gets home

Seems Drills wanted to shame and punish you because your mom "snitched" (I think that's what Drills thought) to General, but I guess it ended up you gaining respect of fellow recruits for enduring the smoking. Something as Self-Sacrifice if you will.

This is not a lie throughout basic he told us he had been hooking up with his step-sister (he didn't find it creepy because they met when they were 16) . Next time we saw him he was holding hands with her at the Navy Pier 😂😂😂😂. He was getting letters from her the time during basic that always had lipstick marks and perfume on them 😂😂😂😂😂. Best guy ever to go through basic training with. (In his defense she was hot, but it was still weird)
