www.deeranddeerhunting.com/ Ted Nugent tells DDH's Dan Schmidt exactly what he thinks of those who belittle other hunters' accomplishments in the deer woods. Deer Talk Now. Season 7. Episode 30.
I saw a kid at the processor hauling in a little antlerless deer. I said "hey good job" on the way by. The kid smiled and said "Thanks! It's my first deer!" Pure joy on that kid's face
@@billpeart wait a couple years while letting deer walk away to satisfy some vague hunting code of conduct that not everybody goes by. Nah. Shoot the deer that's in front of you. Especially a new hunter who's trying to get used to pulling the trigger on live deer.
I got my first deer in my 30s, it was an 80 pound yearling and I still felt the excitement and happiness of finally getting one after multiple fails!!!
My 3 year old just asked me who I was watching. I said uncle Ted. My wife speaks up saying. He's not your uncle. I say yes he is. He is my uncle, your uncle , everybody's uncle.
I'm a long haired, bow huntin, guitar player....I hear, "Oh man, your like Ted Nugent", a lot. I say, "well, he is my uncle". There is always a semi-surprised reaction..."Well, he is your uncle, too!...he's everyone's uncle!"
J Leicht your parents did a job on you lol, I prefer young deer better meat, there ripe like a fruit get off my comment you delusional delinquent, you speak for the real hunters huh lmao
J Leicht I took a guy out to get his first bow kill in a 2 year old 4 point, last week he has a 12 point on the wall, with gun but that was his favorite hunt, it’s all about the person pulling trigger and what makes them happy, not everyone hunts a rack
If you want to take what you're given then just go to the store and get the meat. You people talk like you're a freaking long hunter from the late 1700s. LMAO
I hunt for meat also.Antlers mean nothing to me although they’re nice to have to make gun racks with and to use to rattle more bucks into your hunting spot. IMO the young buck tastes better than all the rest. When I hear people say “let the young bucks walk” I don’t even bother replying because usually it’s someone who has no clue about deer management or where I’m hunting which is private property in which I know precisely which deer I need to harvest to keep the herd strong. I feel the same way about the same people that say “Don’t shoot the does.”.....same rules apply.
@@hallhouse5098 we hunt our own private land as well. The younger deer do taste much better. There isn't all the foul yellow body fat. We manage our deer and from feeding them to cleaning and wrapping them, every step from the woods to our mouths is done exclusively by us. Not to mention we're passing down a tradition to our young sons.
Why is it so damn hard for you people to let the little bucks go and still fill your tags? Here’s another way to think about it: if you shoot a small buck that doesn’t mean much to you, you are reducing the chance of the kid next door shooting that same buck which would mean the world to them. Ya’ll act like your some starving backwoods hillbillies who need this meat to survive. Go buy some steaks at the store and leave the little bucks for the kids to shoot ffs.
Amen Mr. Nugent! I deer hunt from the ground at the base of a tree using a tree seat. No ground blind. Just covering my smell and sitting VERY still. I often have the deer look right at me, decide I am a tree and go about their business. At that point any legal deer I take is a “trophy”, because I earned it! If anyone understands how difficult that is, they’ll understand my elation at any deer I take. And I am mainly hunting for the venison. Nice antlers are just a bonus.
2 weeks ago I shot my first deer at 29 years old. He was a 6 point and weighed 99lbs and I was tickled to death over it and my stomach is too. Got him back from being processed last week and he’s been good for me and my family.
My great nephews deer hunted last year as I came back from my blind in the evening the youngest yelled "I GOT A SPIKE BUCK, I GOT A SPIKE BUCK" His enthusiasm was overwhelming.
Great video. Love it! I hunted for many years before I finally shot my first buck (and first deer) - a 6 pointer. I would have been happy with a doe or a spike. I have shot two more bucks since then. One fallow buck with a spike for his left antler and a palm for his right. One eight point. All the rest were does. All were trophies as far as I was concerned.
Who ever thought Uncle Ted would be a voice of reason 20 years ago. Lol this guy is the best and I love his honesty and intelligence. Too bad we don't have a few more like him
@@lylewollenhaupt7424 20 years ago, when I was a teenager, he didn't have the publicity focused on his political or 2a views. The publicity I saw then was more focused on crucifying him for the meanings behind the lyrics of his songs
@@MrNater41 He still takes a lot of BS for things , most unwarranted, but he is a good guy. Ive met him and he is really down to earth and loves america and what he believes in.
I find big bucks in my surroundings more enjoyable. Unfortunately that rarely happens because I’m surrounded by people that like to let does walk by so they can shoot anything with horns.
Love this, it helps with the anti-hunting argument too. Im putting meat in the freezer, thats it. No games, no bullshit just putting food on the table.
A trophy is in the eyes of the beholder. In past years I have been very happy with spike buck (or a doe for that matter). When it is in the frying pan, you can't tell the difference.
So true Ted!!! The celebration of learning to hunt and to provide food for the family is the main goal!! If in the process there comes one of these monster bucks...a added bonus!!! My grandfather told me something a long time ago when I first started hunting...the day that they come up with a recipe to cook antlers is the day I will care about big antlers...I provide food for all of us....wise words from grandpa!!
Ted Nugent is awesome. At Kerr Outdoors we have supplied the main source of protein for our family for the last 5 years through hunting. Doing this has given us a variety of experience and life lessons. We have harvested some animals that are larger to us and many that were spikes and does. All of them were harvested legally and we strive to do so ethically. All of the animals we harvest are used to feed our family. Some people have given us flack on our channel because some of the animals we have taken were not monster trophies. Harvesting a giant trophy buck has never been the primary purpose, but I wouldn’t turn it down if I got the chance either. I like what Mr. Nugent says about not judging or imposing false standards or demeaning other hunters who are honestly out there doing there best. I wish more people would listen to the concepts of freedom and independence and respect that Ted is trying to get across.
@@billpeart get off your cross, we need the wood. Im not going to justify my children taking one small buck that needs to be culled to a guy i dont know who has his nose in the sky.
Where I hunt we have good does. Each having a fawn the first year and two usually every year after that. We all shoot the spikes that are the same size as the mother does. It's been working well the past 5 years.
Well said. Too many people get there hunting education from watching videos of people hunting managed ranches. Don’t understand taking what the land gives you. Turn off the tv and get out in the woods
cwt outdoors exactly. Just hunted western Washington the last 6 days for bucks, saw nothing until 10 minutes before dark on my last day out and it was a small fork (should have been a spike but he got a fork early). He’s hanging in the shop right now.
Agree I’m 56 and my how things have changed! We used to get excited for one another back in the day before we “ scored “ bucks ! We were just happy we tagged out .
Thank you Uncle Ted!! I sometimes travel 3000 miles to hunt areas I don’t get to scout and when the opportunity comes to harvest a buck of any legal size then I do. It’s not all about the size of the antlers, don’t get me wrong I would love to take a large mature buck but putting meat in the freezer is the ultimate benefit.
This is one of the reasons why I quit hunting, I'm tired of people telling me I've got to take this many does, I can't shoot a buck below a 8 point or some other nonsense of deer hunting rules. You people took the enjoyment out of hunting! Thanks for perfectly explaining it Ted, there was a joy to every deer I shot. So all you deer management badass hunters, think twice about ruining somebody else's hunt when you talk. Oh yeah, another reason I quit was the cost of buying a hunting license.
Hell yeah. Got some yearling deer hanging around the feeder this year, probably going to pop one for meat. Someone else can have one of the "better" bucks with nice antlers.
God bless you Ted!! Couldn't have said it better myself!!! Been hunting since I was..well..I'm..57..gonna say..6..7.. my dad and mom instilled in me that it's not the size..it's the hunt it self..and ..that.. if you learn from the hunt...you are a better person for it..
Well said, hunting isnt easy no matter what the weapon of choice. We all spend countless hours a year prepping and preparing our gear for the moment an animal gives us a shot opportunity to make the best shot we can. Getting a deer in bow range is something alot of people will never experience.
It is quite an experience when one does get a deer, any deer with a bow. Some people may never get that opportunity but I hope they do. I've been blessed and fortunate enough to have killed many many deer with a bow. I've never bought into the kill only big bucks mentality that so many hunters have these days. Whatever one kills with whatever weapon they use and is killed ethically is a trophy.
I’d been hunting for a couple years and had never had a deer even show up. So at that point I was determined to shoot a deer, doe or buck. And a doe came along. I shot it, we tracked it, and it was actually a spike. Man was I happy that day
God bless you for saying that ,and thank you for caring about me 30 years ago when I was in widlers children's hospital I bought my first bow after I got better really thank you so much
Not the biggest Ted fan. But you are spot on with this. If it's a trophy to you, let it fly! I got my first deer with a bow yesterday. And it's my smallest deer yet, and I am even happier than I was with my first from a gun.
Great video. If you’re excited pull the trigger. That’s hunting. If you’re not excited and pull the trigger, It’s killing. Great video. Always have and always will be a TN fan.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. God Bless You Ted Nugent for standing up & saying that. You are 100% correct. I’ve always said, “You can’t eat those antlers”. Not everyone can afford to hunt as often as some or farm their deer as many of these celebrity hunters do. Not everyone can give up their daily lives to invest in hunting for a living nor does everyone want to make hunting a living.
I’m 36 years old. Been hunting for 20 years. I harvested a fat little spike this morning. I know there’s a big 12 and an 8 point in the same area on my trail camera. I could’ve waited for the slim chance that they would walk through on one of my few days that I get to hunt. But, a deer in the freezer is worth more than a 12point on the hoof!!
I've taken spikes and mature bucks. Buddies have bagged does. Not really hunting for horns, but we'll take it if it walks by. BTW, the Fender amps in the background of the trophy room gave me a chuckle.
I took a smaller buck one year, because it was thirty minutes past daylight first day of season. Dropped it and decided season is done for buck. Now I can just get a doe or two and not be frustrated when I can’t make it into the woods
I 100% agree with u sir.....my daughter goes out and lays the smack down on a 4 pt this yr in the youth hunt....she is 13 yrs old and went out with her older brother....my son was filming but in their excitement his focus after the shot was on the ground as they were undoubtedly 2 of the he happiest people on the planet at that moment and u can listen to the exchange between them and feel nothing but purest of excitement in their banter...my wife posted it on dnr Instagram page...the Michigan don't contacted us to get permission to use he photo...this brings my daughter to an all new high of excitement that they chose o use her photo...the high of taking your first buck and all was a moment she won't soon forget....so upon the photos posting our sportmen , grown men within the great state of Michigan begin to tear down my 13 yr old daughter as to the fact he she is the reason Michigan is not in the eyes of trophy hunters....the bashed her and bashed her and I watched her come down from her room upset at the entire thing and ask me what do they mean? Why are they saying I'm ruining hunting for everybody...her excitement ended because of selfish a holes that are so into theirself and their own opinions that even tearing down a young girl, our next generation to hunting wasn't off limits to them...you people want to shoot nothing but monsters go to a damn ranch....don't force your thought and opinions on me or my family and I hope you self righteous idiots are proud of hurting a young girl while u hide behind your keyboards
Well said. As a meat hunter, I understand the situation all too well. I am not going to pass up a basket rack 8 so that someone can have a trophy in a year or two. That basket 8 will provide my family with some of the best food on the planet. I would like a wall hanger, but I am in the woods for the meat. I take great pride out of being able to harvest it. My family treasures it. There’s just something special about it. I found the right spot to hunt. I waited and waited to get the shot. I shot and hit right where I was aiming. I tracked it. I field dressed it. I dragged it out. I brought it home. I skinned and quartered it. I did all the butchering. I did all the processing into jerky, summer sausage, canning meat, steaks, and hamburger. I packaged it all, so it will last us all year. I cooked it. That’s just something that you can’t buy. Being that connected to your food gives you even more reverence for the animal. I will not pass up a clean broadside shot at an eater doe, a spike, or a basket rack. I might pass up a small yearling early in the season. I do that because I only have so much time, I’m only allowed to shoot so many deer, and I want to provide my family with as much as I can. That being said, yearlings and button bucks are a delicacy. You can’t find better meat. There just isn’t much of it. I don’t care if someone wants to hunt for horns. I just don’t want you to care that I hunt for food. I understand that that basket rack could be a monster in a couple years. It could also get hit by a car. It could get hurt and die. Someone else could shoot it. It could never get any better of a rack. There are a million possibilities. It may grow to be a record breaker. The world will never know though because it’s providing my family with pure lean protein.
But there's probably a 50% chance that a basket rack buck will always be a basket rack buck spreading his basket rack genes every year. Then again, people never mention those that die from fighting, parasites, road kill, poachers, predators, starvation, getting tangled in fencing, etc. etc. etc. A wild free roaming animal has everything against it 24/7 and can't be compared with a dog in the backyard, or a calf in a pen. Many of the "hunting video " deer are raised on HF ranches and fed and nurtured like a calf for the stock show.
Well spoken from a true huntsman, I personally wouldn't have it.. but that's my choice and preference because I think of the long term. However, if a hunter gets that fast heartbeat, sweaty palms which we all know as buck fever and they shoot it. I'll be right there to congratulate them, who am I to tell another hunter what they should or shouldn't shoot. I didn't pay for their license, the bow/gun or the ammo/arrow or for their gear. Congrates to all hunters for your harvest and good hunting brother and sisters.
If its brown it's down. I want meat but I wont pass on a nice rack. You never know if your going to get another chance. Not everyone has the opportunity to hunt places where you can choose which nice buck to shoot. I hunt public land in Wisconsin and will not waste my time by passing up on a small buck, an opportunity which nature has given me to maybe see a bigger one. The point of hunting is for meat the size and rack are second. People need to remember that the next time they go hunting.
@@rnr4204 Thats your answer? You know laws dont always allow Does... most public land around me is buck only. Ive watched our deer numbers droop down to about like hunting in Florida now. The law in Alabama allows a doe a day. After 10 yrs of "Shoot ADoe" We dont have hardley any Bucks or DOES left. I have 7 does and fawns on our 600 acres left. I could go and sit and see 15 to 20 deer every set. Now I might see 1 every 2 or 3 sets. Yeah Shoot a doe.. more QDM common core taught people coming up in Deer hunting. When we have more bear and Coyote now than deer in the deep south. Hows that shit working.. In the deep thick south Take care of the Does and the Bucks will be fine. You need to understand Deer management is not a one-size-fits-all prescription. Did They teach you that in your common core deer management class?
Southern TripleJ if you can’t put meat in your freezer without shooting a spike buck you either a) suck as a hunter, or b) your hunting location sucks. You fall under category b for sure. Possibly a as well. 600 acres and only 7 does and fawns? You suck balls at QDM then. Hell, I can see that many deer munching on acorns in my front lawn on any given day. Step up your game crybaby.
@@ZeddicusTheMage Thats all we can make out. They all have twins but I cant tell what they are yet ours still have spots. We have a few young bucks and 2 older bucks and thats about it. I live on it and I got 9 cams out. We just dont have alot of deer anymore.. every one that borders us has a feeder and a bugger light.
Our friends In the dec do a good job. If it we're to be detrimental to take too small of a deer they put limitations on it. Here, during the special shotgun season, at least 1 side has to have 3 points, for example. The deer around here tend to only be 2-3 years old anyway.
Completely agree 110 percent!!! I love you and your way of thinking and way of life you are a living legend in hunting and music you have the animals and you're audience in a STRANGLEHOLD!!! PS lets go hunting as Fred Bare told you. Iove that song im a bowh hunter i started when i was 10 with small game rabbits ect with a 4.10 but i wanted to be more natural and decided on my own to shoot bow. My dad hunted some but just small game and we enjoyed that but no comparison for me i will do either but no comparison. So my uncle taught me and took me i practiced every day for 6 or seven months and it turned October and honestly i went every day after school and sat i hit the woods morning and afternoons. October 30 o shot my first deer at 16 with a women's target bow my folks bought at a garage sale!👊all true i swear i used a Allen broadhead from Walmart! Looking back its something i won't forget that practice and patience and preparation the 3 p s are a big part of your success not the latest gadget. Most of all love for the hunt! That will keep you in the woods not on your phone 😉
Nova Scotia's rifle season starts tomorrow, getting out is more important to me now. Good sized doe or maybe 4 point good for me,I happy. God bless all from Nova Scotia. Family, friends, time together that's big to me, like my father in law used to say,This is Family.
I've been hunting public for 3 years now and finally let my arrow fly! It was a SPIKE but IDC meat is meat! I put in miles and miles of boots on the ground and a crap ton of pins on ONX. The Spike was definitely worth it!
Amen Ted, I don’t agree with 100% of everything you say, it’s my right to, but your dead on with this. I shot my 1st buck in the U.P. years back, a small, but pretty 6 pointer, after 10 years of hunting I was proud as could be, a few guys at the motel buck pole asked why I shot it, it didn’t bother me then, and doesn’t now, because “I” was happy and proud of it!
As per he father of that little girl and a sportsmen myself I wonder if the term sportsmen is used to lightly. We call hunting and fishing a sport. Ok, well I'm in my mid 40's, when I was a young boy and playing sports we were taught to win but not at the he cost of our fellow players....we were taught sportsmenship. Has everybody forgotten what that means? We knock each other down constantly, and to go as low as to knock a little girl? Unbelievable!!! How can we ever stand in unity against the anti hunting society if we are torn right down to the he core? Hunting and fishing is done for enjoyment....not every fish u catch is the biggest and neither is every buck...it leads to the excitement to bang a big one when a big one comes along...u killed the wisest buck around the one that's been able to elude every Hunter in the county but u got him.....story's get spread wide about did ya all hear about the buck so and so got....not so much when everything is sporting massive head gear...that's not my sport guys and gals....I want to go out and kill deer...I don't care what's on their head . I'm not gonna pass one up because it's not big enough unless some bureaucrat makes it illegal for me to do so... We need to stop all the fighting. Fighting over head gear is stupid. We are all so caught up in head gear battles the Michigan DNR is slipping more stupid regulations on us and we are all to torn to be United enough to fight them on it...I personally don't need bait to kill a deer...but I know alot of people that do and we all should be showing our sportsmanship in helping those that can't help themselves
Awsome I agree .guys . with hunters choices ... have fun ..we all love horns .. but the original beginning of hunting was survival ..(food) love you ted ..and
Amen. Freedom is slipping away from us !!!! Thanks for speaking up, thank u for telling it like it is, thank u for standing up for gun rights , hunting rights and for rockin me since I bought free for all when I was 9 years old . I’ve still got it!! I’m 51 now. Your r the last of a diein breed .GOD bless keep hunting and rockin .
I see both sides of it and think everyone should choose what they want to shoot. With that said it can be tough to get deer into higher age classes if the neighbors dont agree with quality deer management. The biggest challenge is lack of land ownership. If you own less then 100 acres you have a hard time making much of any effect on age class by your decision. Most areas are privately owned here and are small parcels with everyone having different ideas. If there was to be change it has to be state mandated and that is already happened in my home state and half of the state I currently live in. I wish we all had Ted's money but it doesnt work that way .
Everyone loves the big rack. Meat or not everyone would love a huge rack. That’s being said as long as it’s a legal harvest it’s the person right to do as they choose. Teds right on that one.
My exfather in law says it best "Don't pass up a deer on the first day that you would take on your last day hunting" Every deer is a trophy in someone's eyes.
Couldn’t agree more with Nug!. I’m tired of hearing and seeing about trophy bucks. Media Tv acts like everyone has the same opportunity to shoot trophies.
