If you read this then fuck off Not officially, but he was there when they saved Zoro, and the three of them were together when they finally dropped him off at the Marine base.
Zoro has a special relationship to Chopper, when something bad happens Chopper always screams "Zoro", maybe he sees him like an older brother. (He does that more often with Zoro)
+Makuy333 Make sense. Johnny and Yosaku (Zoro friends from east blue) call him respectfully "aniki" what means "older brother" or "big brother". Guess that is how the majority of the crew and people see Zoro.
+Makuy333 Thats one of my favorite things about ONe Piece. All of the crew have differing relationships with each other. Zoro and chopper have a big brother relationship and Zoro and Sanji have a brotherly hatred for each other. Its like their not just crewmates Oda's carved them into being a family. :') Also Zoro and Chopper are 2 of 3 of my favorite of the crew. so Zoro's the one who goes for CHopper usually like when he or Luffy go overboard and end up sinking. I like that they always have each others backs hehe
+Orimuya Kiritsugu (Onigiri) zoros and everyone else in the crews purpose is to become strong so luffy wont have to save them as welland become the "kids playing around" as zoro describes here
I think its to change the world as well, not like the revolutionary army, but similar, also to experience the entire world together, it also could be that they're family now, so they can't leave each other.
Zoro said it with a grin. I think what he meant was after he becomes the strongest swordsman and luffy becomes the pirate king......he will have a duel with luffy!
That "Sorry, I really can't tell what it is.." I think Zoro really meant "I don't want to tell you. You'll know it by yourself eventually" Which Chopper proves when he says he's willing to be a Monster for Luffy.
I was kinda tear up when Chopper said he’s willing to become a monster for Luffy. As I know (CMIIW), Chopper hates to be called as a monster, but he think it’s okay to be a monster for Luffy. 🥺
Oda is AMAZING when it comes to character development. They WERE independent working towards their own goals but after Ace's death EVERY strawhat pirates dream is to make Luffy pirate king. That's why I love One Piece, truly a work of art.
yeaboi55 I also love the fact that after time-skip, they all started to address him as captain, not like before they just call him Luffy or nakama. The loyalty and respect is so intense, that's GOda, folks!
I know I'm a 'little' late, but I just want to express my opinion on character development. My main problem is that none of the crew members really talked to each other. They never really talked about their pasts; who they are, where they come from, and how they got there. There's actually a perfect example of this in the anime (not really sure about the manga) is that when they were searching for Robin in the water 7 arc. I believe it was Sanji and Chopper that were looking for her. And one of them asks, "what does Robin like?" or "do we even know what Robin likes?" (something like this, again I forget). This states that while all this time they were together they didn't even have a little discussion about what they like. Yeah, 'we' the audience know about their background/backstory, but the rest of the crew members only find out when one of the crew members life is at stake and/or by side character explaining things, but they only explain what the events were. But the main characters never know what their friend was really going through back then. For example: In the arc of Whole cake island, we get to see Sanji's past, but that's the thing 'WE' as in the audience see his past. Yeah his crew mates probably sees that his family are jerks and he's part of the Germa 66 family, but they will never know how it was like for him growing up in that family, and how he got to that restaurant. Another example: Is Robin's past, again we the audience know what Robin's been through, how she felt, and how she got where she was with crocodile. But it's never been hinted or suggested that she's even told them about her past, even after the whole Enies Lobby arc and though they almost died for her. Like come on, how am I suppose to get into mind set that these characters are true friends and are willing to die for each other when they probably don't even know each other's birthdays. I just want a couple of episodes where they just sit around a campfire or a table, just chillin and talk about their pasts, and see the other crew members react to it. They can lie, so we can have an arc like they did with Sanji, but just give me some damn episodes where they just talk to each other, other than "Where is the next island?" and "Who do we have to save now?"
@@mikeoxlong6468hahahhhaha true but is it really necessary though??? Aint it too cheesy? Maybe they talk to each other but oda just didnt show it cause its a minor thingy going things like that juat adds too much and too cringe in the anime
Everyone in the crew obviously loves Luffy like family. I mean, look at how they reacted when they found out Ace was gone. Nami was crying desperately and her first impulse was to run away to him. But Zoro is the one that RESPECTS him the most and treats him like a captain, most of the time. The other ones may do it occasionally, but Zoro, even while he calls him an idiot and argues with him everytime, can suddenly step up and remind the others that Luffy's the captain. Look at when Usopp argued with Luffy and left the crew. The others where willing to forgive him, but Zoro stopped Luffy and said that if Usopp didn't respect his captain, he couldn't stay in the crew. Or look at when he saved Smoker. Zoro himself said he DIDN'T WANT to save Smoker and was completely against it, but he was given an order by his captain. I think it's due to his strong sense of duty. Zoro is the guy that dedicated his life to become the best swordswman in the world just because he promised that he would have bested his rival, and when she died, since he couldn't prove himself better than her anymore, made a vow to become the best in the world to prove it to her anyway. Such a strong sense of duty is what makes him basically the 2nd in command of the Straw Hats, even if there's nothing like "official" hierarchy among them.
Well they have offical hierarchy. According to the vivre cards Zoro , Sanji and Nami are vice captains of the crew. Zoro being first mate , Sanji being cook + Advisor and Nami being Navigator + Quartermaster
_The other purpose.. was swallowing my pride to ensure Luffy achieves his dream and becomes the Pirate King. Even if that meant sacrificing my life.._ *_If you can't even protect your captain's dream then what good is your ambition?_*
That "Another Purpose" I think is explained at thriller bark when Zoro says "In order to fulfill his dream he needs to help luffy fulfill his dream on becoming pirate king".
Zoro is very loyalty to Luffy and i think the rest of the crew BUT the only one that i think is not so much is Sanji....for Sanji i have many question marks...Oda should make some scenes to show how loyalty is Sanji to Luffy or Oda don't want to make cause he will reveal something else for Sanji later....
antonis41 Sanji is very similar to zorro in the fact that he understands pride as a man.. Thats where his loyalty comes from, he knows luffys dream is stupid just like his, but will defend it no matter what. During thriller bark, Sanji just like Zorro was willing to give up his life to protect luffy and his dream. That was so far his best moment of loyalty..

MisaelMatute76 Yeah, but as it's been said before Sanji also showed some hesitations. The worst moment for me was at Enies Lobby when he said to Nami he was sorry for Robin, but he couldn't fight a woman (Kalifa). Nobody else in the crew would have refused to fight anyone in order to help a nakama.
"Is it just about rescuing and protecting each other. There are people who believe that. But to me, it sounds like kids playing around" My opinion about Fairy Tail in a nutshell
I think this was the sort of beginning of Zoro's role as first mate. He was "wild and independent," and would remain so, but he came to realize across their voyages that Luffy wasn't just a pirate. So in moments like when he took Luffy's pain, or when he told Luffy to stay strong in letting Usopp leave the crew, or when they both ignored the beating they got in that one pre-Skypeia island pub... those could never be Sanji or Nami moments. Not that those two are incapable. It's just that they'd have to be asked to. Zoro gets it. He knows that if Luffy fails, there's no plan B. Everyone else knew what they'd do if the Straw Hats disbanded. Zoro knows that by the time the Straw Hats could disband, he'll have already died trying to keep the dream alive. And he can only accept that because he's seen enough proof that Luffy wouldn't step over his corpse to reach the goal; he'd have died alongside Zoro. The Straw Hats win together or they die together. Zoro was the first to get it.
Zoro acknowledged Luffty is captain and Pirate King a long time ago before all those stuff happened. He treated Luffy like captain even before Usopp joined the crew. When he got beaten by Mihawk, he already believed in Luffy as Pirate King and from point there, Zoro never did misbelieve in those words. He is the most loyal and dutiful character in whole Crew. (in my opinion of course)
just wait until zoro becomes old and gets Alzheimers he will not only be continually lost in thought he'll be even more lost when going out and about. I feel sorry for the person who'll have to find him time and time again.
Anyone else actually still not over the fact that each new crewmember had 'their own arc' before fully joining Luffy except Zoro? ...No? Just me? Okay..
Beprotybes Iliuzija I suppose it could be considered Usopp's arc, but the original comment stated that each new crew member got their own arc before joining up with Luffy. Usopp was already a member of Luffy's crew during water 7 (even when he technically left he still acted like a member of the crew as sniperking.) All in all I consider Water 7 mainly to be about Robin since we get her entire backstory during it, and in a slightly more minor role Usopps bond with the Merry. If I had to choose which single character this arc had to be about Water 7 realty has to go to Robin IMO.
luffy's basically the glue that holds them all together, without him, im pretty sure that over time, the rest of the crew would probably separate... just my thoughts
richard octovianus oey Zoro may have something else in the future. I think his and Usopps hasn't rly been talked about. Zoro's is probably during Wano and Usopps might be in Elbaf.
The things that are accomplished when Luffy's dream is done for sure: Sanji found all blue. Nami made a map of the world. Robin found the Rio poneglyph and knows the truth of the world. Usopp visited Elbaf and is a brave sea warrior. Franky traveled with his ship to the end of the grand line. Brook returned to Laboon. Zoro is the most loyal member because his dream isn't necessary fulfilled by travelling with Luffy but still sticks around. Zoro could be the best swordsman way faster if he became Shichibukai with an own crew that is hunting top-notch swordsman. But he stays with Luffy and is even willing to give up his dream for him.
Zoro's dream was fulfilled earlier than the rest, Usopp has a new dream to be the best sniper, franky's dream was for the ship to around the world not just the grand line
IDK Chopper's dream to cure for all diseases seems pretty tough. Although after Mihawk and Zoro fought, Mihawk told Luffy that becoming the Pirate King would be even more difficult than defeating the World's Greatest Swordsman. So you can imagine that the #1 swordsman/First Mate of the Pirate King would be able to accomplish his dream. Besides Zoro already said that if Luffy ever asked him to do anything that would make him abandon his dream, he would kill him, and I dont think Luffy ever will.
AHorseWithNoName Thats why I never mentioned Chopper. because his dream isn't necessarily fulfilled with Luffy being a Pirate king. But traveling with Luffy is more beneficial for Chopper. Zoro could fulfill his dream faster as a Shichibukai with a crew he could complete his dream way faster. But he stays like a loyal vice captain with Luffy.
***** That may be, but you have to take into account that before Robin got saved by the crew she really didn't care that much and saw the strawhats as just another crew she traveled with to achieve her goal. And obeying/accepting orders is just a part of loyalty. Most of the crew members need Luffy to sail over the world for their goal. Zoro is like the only one that sits with them. Zoro doesn't need to sail over the world, save islands/people but he does because Luffy wants it.
***** being loyal also includes making sure the captain of the crew doesn't make a decision that will endanger the lives of the entire crew. Luffy has had moments where he was going to do something foolish and zoro brought him back down to reality. For instance the whole Ussopp returning thing. If Luffy allowed him back with open arms, it would show that anyone in the crew would be able to walk all over him, and that is not something a captain needs. If your the leader but your subordinates treat you without respect then you can't lead.
@@joshushushu bro, you are saying that you're not sure about watching a show because of oversexualized women on a one piece video, do I need to say anything else?
Everyone from the start: For the sake of my ambition! After traveling sometime with Luffy: Our captain will become the pirate king, we lay our life just to see that happen!
I think it's a bit more reciprocal than that makes it sound. Luffy has the greatest ambition, yet he was willing to risk his life (and thus his dream) for the smaller dreams everyone else has as seen on basically every new member arc. Now they will do the same for him while continuing to persue theirs.
The way I see it, at the end zoro goes that he is luffy's nakama due to his ambition to become the worlds greatest swordsman, and then he says that he feels there is another purpose to be his nakama. later in the series, zoro says that his ambition is worthless if he can't protect his captain and sacrifices himself for luffy. character development at its finest...
+Mr RezzZ He doesn't " sacrifice " himself for luffy. He just give up on his ambition for the time being to help out luffy. He did not abandon his dream and tbh helping luffy and becoming the greatest swordsman is somewhat the same considering he becomes stronger in both case anyway. If you meant that because you've read the scans and know more than I do ( who only watched anime ) then don't tell me what happens please.
+kévin Garin Zoro was fully prepared to die in order to save Luffy from Kuma. At that very moment he was willing to sacrifice himself and die, so Luffy could live on. He did not "temporarily" sacrifice himself. He didn't know he was going to survive, all he knew is that Kuma was going to kill him. Thus fully giving up his ambition. At that moment it was a character development for Zoro, in the beginning it was: His Ambition > Luffy's Ambition In terms of priority. After everything they have been through and during the Kuma ordeal it changed to: His Ambition < Luffy's Ambition
I think in the last 6 or so years, I've re-watched this anime a dozen of times and read the manga over again a dozen of times. Kudos to Oda for not having ONE boring scene throughout One Piece. And Zoro is a badass!
Everyone is talking about loyalty of the crew. You can cleary see that everyone is loyal to Luffy when they hear what happend by Marineford. Everyone is worried about him. For example Usopp wants to leave the island where he is as soon as possible. That shows that everyone is loyal to Luffy and everyone would sarfice himself for Luffy. Without Luffy all there dreams die.
Not true at all, Brook could make his dream come true much easier with out luffy, so could sanji. Zoro could gather his own crew at this point he doesnt need luffy, he is just helping luffy cause he knows luffy cant do it alone. Strength is nothing when you're an idiot. The rest of the crew need luffy but for those 3 luffy isnt needed
@@kylejackson7176 thing is they would've never made it this far without Luffy it's kinda a debt they have for him if you think about it I highly doubt any of the crew members would've made it to as far as Wano our current arc by themselves even Luffy wouldn't without his crew he would've died a long time ago, Zoro would be dead from execution, Nami would probably still be in Arlong's crew since he lied about the 100 mil beri thing still being a map drawing slave, Sanji, Usopp, Chopper, Franky, Brook, wouldn't have even moved their ass and Robin would be dead from crocodile, jinbei is probably the only one that would've been ok without Luffy EDIT: Usopp would be dead from Captain Kuro actually and Franky would either be dead or arrested for having the pluton blueprints probably dead since he would burn them also Nami would probably be dead since they tried to riot the Arlong Pirates she might be spared as a map slave tho but her whole town would be killed IDK about that one.
Jojo Clid Not all filler was this good but at least they put an effort compared to Naruto which seems like this said "ok think of 3 things make that an episode" no thought at all.
extraleague01 dafuq??? that wasnt a filler, it was a part, a completely normal episode in the alabasta kingdom story/saga with the warlord crocodile. i dont know where you got that it was a filler. you are dumb -_-
RonW JrAE What? I know Alabasta story is canon, it's a famous and popular arc. But the story in this episode was NOT in the manga. Goodness, I pity you. Really, I do.
I'm pretty sure that everyone in the crew would give up their dreams for Luffy. It's one of the thing I love about One Piece so much. The bonds between this crew is just amazing.
+Amine EL BAKKOURI : His character is very original in personality, which is something rarely seen in a Shonen. He doesn't have obfuscating stupidity, like, let's say, Vash the Stampede. He IS stupid. Not even naive like Goku, just properly dumb. Yet he has a big golden heart and the two defining elements put togheter make for a great character. The only shonen protagonist with a more original personality is probably Yoh Asakura from Shaman King, which is just lazy and laid back all the time, like he doesn't give a shit.
BlueHoodie Nakama means comrade, it just works better to translate as friend in One Piece. Kazoku means family though, rather interesting since pirate is apparently kaizoku.
So let me get this straight. According to Zoro, most people see teamwork as a group of people holding onto a single piece of rope, and they move as a unit, slow and steady, towards the finish line. But with the Straw Hats, it's more like one guy runs as far and fast as he can before pulling the others to where he stopped. And then the next person runs as far as he/she can before pulling the others to that point until they reach the finish line. Is that about right?
My interpretation would be that their version of teamwork is that everyone has their own role to play, and they play it to the best of their ability with the team's objective in mind
+Just Some Guy with a Mustache According to Fairy Tail teamwork as a group of people holding onto a single piece of rope, and they move as a unit, slow and steady, towards the finish line. Thats why i dont like fairy tail much.
I really liked this honest moment between Zoro and Chopper in Alabasta. It showed that the crew at this point of their adventure still didn't have the connectedness with each other and they still were focusing only on their own goals. Of course, this dramatically changes overtime, but it showed that early one piece was really trying to slowly develop the strong connections they have with each other through the noble causes they solved together.
It’s something that Pre-time skip Usopp didn’t fully understand when they were in Water 7 No wonder they say Zoro is the vice-captain He understand this “second purpose” joing Luffy He was the first to fully understand what it means as well as the first to apply it in him (pre timeskip zoro vs mihawk)
No matter how much they argue and insult each other at the end of the day, they know that they're nakama and they'll put their lives on the line to protect each other. And despite having different goals or intentions when joining luffy they're all collectively cheering each other on in their own ways. That shit puts a smile on my face.
Gold D Roger final word, "I left everything I gathered together in one place." It may had had referred to his physical treaures, but if we interpret it in a metaphor way, it can mean he had gathered all the good people, pirates' crews(treasures) in one place(ship). He did it, so does Luffy
I like the Zoro shown here. The "new" Zoro is always frowny face and acting like a badass... but, y'know, that's fine for, like, a side character, but I wish Zoro had his humanity back. Laughed more and had a fun time once in awhile while NOT cutting up bitches. Am I alone in thinking that?
You're not alone. I feel like episodes 1 - 200/250ish, Zoro had a more laid back style and laughed. I haven't heard a Zoro laugh in a while. I haven't seen Zoro's humanity since Usopp tried to leave the crew.
dumabalrog That is true. They haven't REALLY had time to just chillax since, what, Water Seven ended? Not counting filler arcs / movies (even though two of them are technically canon, fuck it), they've always been on the move towards danger or in danger somehow. Guess through all that, Zoro can't do anything but be a crazeh sword wielding badass.
We have to take into account that the crew have been through a lot. Zoro was the acting the responsible grown up when Usopp and Robin left the crew at water seven, and he accepted the punishment meant for Luffy on Thriller Bark. He then trained for two years under his rival Hawkeye, living in a creepy, gloomy castle with a woman who finds it fun to control people by passing a ghost through their body to make them feel miserable. It's not much of a surprise that he doesn't smile or laugh that much. :( But I have a feeling it will come back.
The character development of each character is amazing! Luffy’s leadership is all about inspire others and make them accept their talents and strengths.. that’s why at the end all his allies are working together to make him the King of Pirates!
That's another Reason why i love One Piece. It's so interesting and shows also a real friendship. Zoro is really the one that respects luffy the most, he is actually the first crew member that came and that's the best choice ever! Zoro would die for luffy and Luffy would die for zoro they're really like brothers, love it💙
this is one of the exact reasons there are zoro fanboys sure, hes absolutely a badass. But it's the very occasional moments where Zoro says something genuinely insightful and wise that cement him as one of my favourite characters. He's just as much of an idiot as others in the crew, completely lacking any sense of direction and lacking a self awareness about that fact even more. He is in no way a purely serious character. Yet he provides such a backbone to the crew that no other member has ever provided. Zoro is a member that knows the true meaning of loyalty. He is one of the few members that never question Luffy's decisions, yet he, from time to time, will also tell Luffy to take things seriously when the situation requires it. Some people think jinbe will become the right hand of Luffy, with him being an overall more serious character who seems much more inclined to give Luffy advice. But I don't think Zoro's position as right hand will never be taken away, because zoro has never failed at it.
Its probably why Luffy chose the people he chose in the first place. He could've picked anybody but he chose them. Even when they turned him downed he didn't give up on recruiting them.
I love how Luffy trusts Zoro to handle shit when he's rampaging and Fighting the Strongest guy.Even though Zoro acts like an Idiot sometimes,He is the one to asses the situation quickly and puts his life before every crewmate and Everyone acknowledges that. When Kizaru was about to kill Zoro,We could see all of them panicking because he the rock of this crew.
I love how after all those years, we still don't know what luffy's true dream actually was, the only thing we now know is that his dream needs him to become the pirate king
Watching this again after rewatching the dressrosa moment when franky and sanji asked permission from luffy to do their own thing hits even harder. They all have so much respect for him and he fully trusts everyone on his ship to make the right choice
This whole interaction between chopper and zoro are all further played with in later arc. Chopper telling Zoro "everyone looks kinda wild and independent to me" is further expanded on when Zoro attaccs the Celestial Dragon and The Mad Monk says "he doesn't seem like the type to take orders, says a lot about his captain".
Underated moment for Zoro as the first mate rather than just the crew's swordsman. He is the one that keeps everyone's focus (including Luffy's) on the reality of the present and not the just the ideals and dreams that Luffy strives for. This isn't a kid's game.
Wow. I had forgotten this scene and I really enjoyed it. When was the last time in the story, anime or manga, where characters had a nice, slow, meaningful heart to heart? Now it is all plot all the time, and even though that plot is mostly great, I didn't realize we are missing these kinds of things.
Zoro is right, even the most cowards from the crew have become the bravest to protect their captain’s dream. I’m really proud of how far they’ve come, and also Luffy he even makes us believe he’s already the Pirate King
He is the best right hand man any captain can dream of.... what a well written character from oda sometimes the things Zoro says Hits hard and it's damn gud.
This isn't an issue of post time skip. After ennies Lobby is when the relationship becomes clear. Everyone originally joined the crew on their own ambition, and although they were pirates, they were nothing more than a loose group of friends each with their own ambition. But after Luffy vs Usopp and the way they left behind the going merry things had changed. in the words of zoro "we're not just playing pirate anymore". After Enies Lobby they were a true pirate crue. Sure, Luffy is an idiot but he is there captain. Evidence of this : Both Sanji and Zoro were willing to take Luffy's place for Kuma, nobody questioned luffy's decision to fight that celestial dragon in ennies lobby. Attributing the crew's loyalty to the timeskip doesn't due justice to water7/enies lobby and luffy's character development as a leader during that arc.
That is the one thing about Luffy, back then and even now. He wants his crew to accomplish their own dreams or goals. Even knowing how they differ from his own. He sees something in people that others cannot and tries to understand their view. Their passion. He is the captain. He is the leader. Titles Luffy does not take for granted, titles he has made his own.
Like from "I'll kill you if you get in the way of my goal" to: "Our captain is going to be the pirate king, take my life instead...!!!" Another purpose has emerged indeed
I think the "other purpose" might just be to get Luffy to where he can become pirate king. Because he can't do it alone, while pretty much all the other dreams his crew have can be accomplished by themselves
