I was thinking that Obi-Wan saw the twins as reflections of their parents. He saw Luke as what Anakin could have been, and he saw Leia as what Padme was. I think Yoda just saw them both as Jedi.

I think Yoda saw Luke was very similar to his father which is a good thing, BUT also for obvious reasons it's also why Yoda favored Leia more. Leia had a lot more of her mother's qualities while also having her father's force sensitivity and other skills; which would make a more disciplined Jedi. In the end they both did great!

The Vader comics also had a moment similar to this, why Vader and the Inquisitors eventually stopped their Jedi hunting, it’s because there were so few at that point and the remaining ones on the blacklist so difficult to find, they were not worth the trouble and both Palpatine and Vader had other matters to attend to, like running a galaxy and Empire.

Maybe when Obi-wan said, "that boy is our last hope" he meant "we" in reference to just the Jedi. Leia represents hope, but the galaxy's hope. The Rebellion's hope, the hope of regular people. Maybe Yoda wanted to pull Leia into the Jedi way and Obi-wan wanted her to be able to stay on her own path, the one she had chosen for herself.

And to add to that Obi Wan possibly believed that Luke was the only one of the twins to actually be able to kill Vader when the time came, ofc it turned out different anyway

The best example I have seen in legends is Palpatine takes joy in knowing some of the council members are running and hiding. It’s their ultimate pay back as the sith had to hide for 1000 years. And he wanted vador focused on building the empire not hunting Jedi.

I think the deal with Wade is mostly to do with his death scene, the music and the way it's shot (and character's reactions) are quite dramatic, as if the moment was meant to affect the audience because they have an emotional connection to the character. In actuality, we knew nothing about him and didn't actually care, which made this seem a bit strange. The joke is people acting like they actually were as affected by the death scene as the show on some level seems to expect its audience to be, when nobody actually was.
@PerovNigma

Yeah! In the moment I was like, 'Wait, who was that? What'd I miss?' So I went back and rewatched the start of the episode thinking I must not have been paying close enough attention. Wade was the first actual death of the series. Some have argued online that there was no tension up until that moment. No big dramatic cost. The comedic yelling of his name, the fact his name is Wade. You have not heard his name through the entire episode, the name is yelled out. Drawing the reaction of. Wait, who is that? Was I supposed to care? Which just adds to the joke.

The point of that scene wasn't to feel so sorry about this particular guy just to show that in such an early attempt to fight back against the Empire losses are innevitable. But loss is such a new concept to these young pilots and they can't handle it. That was the point of that scene.

My thoughts on Obi-Wan's line are based on Obi-Wan telling Leia she would make a great leader some day. He saw Luke as the one to carry on the legacy of the Jedi, he didn't even consider Leia because he could forsee (not literally) a future where the things Leia was doing was even more important than just the Jedi. Obi-Wan said himself in ROTS, his allegiance was with the Republic.

Personally I feel it would have (given how there were divisions in the Order regardless of what the Prequel Council chose) and in the Legends/pre TCW timeline, such a group would probably have a massive boost in support after Grevious began committing atrocities in battles like Operation Durge's Lance.

Question: Do you think any continuation of Obi-Wan’s story (whether a second season, a spin-off, or in another medium) might involve Kenobi making a visit to Yoda on Dagobah? Perhaps training for both of them for becoming one with the force. I don’t know for certain but I don’t think anything in canon states they never saw each other alive again after ROTS. May provide an opportunity to see “growth” in a morally defeated Yoda as well, which we’ve never seen (but might be derivative from Obi-Wan’s journey). Could lend more credence to Ghost Old Ben’s narratively “squishy” statement to Luke that Yoda trained him, beyond the training that younglings receive, and may provide a fun opportunity for the wisened student to teach something to the cranky and strange old master.

Wade: for me it's because we see how much Roken and the other characters seem affected that even one member of their tiny force has been lost, and then Tala says that line about them being soldiers now, losing Wade meant so much like now we are in the fight. And the fact that Leia is seeing all of this for the first time and one day she will lead troops into battle like this and lose some, like in the Last Jedi. For me personally thats the emotion that's stirred when I think of Wade, "Too many losses"

Ahsoka has the potential to thread together Darth Vader's character Ark and connect the three trilogies. Anakin talking to Ahsoka about what he did and how he realized it was wrong would be a great ending for that character. Then Ahsoka could play a role in the offense of the sequels we know that she's interacted with Luke so she might play more of a role.

I want to believe that Obi-Wan saw the qualities in the Skywalker children that reinforced why Luke was the “Last Hope.” Luke had emerged as a cunning pilot in a harsh upbringing that would give him skills to become a warrior. The “Last Hope” was the Last Hope for the Warrior Order of the Jedi. Leia was brought up on Alderaan with schooling in organizational and political leadership. Her path is one of the leader and not the warrior, which is much more important. Obi-Wan saw the need for this in people like Roken that shied away from battle but was needed in coordination of a rebellion. Luke’s path was the one to bring back The Order, while Leia’s path was the one to bring back The Republic. Obi-Wan understood that Leia could not to both and still be effective in either.

I have a couple different takes on some of what was discussed. TL,DR: nice discussion as always, though I have a certain point of view on some things. 1. I don't think Obi-Wan "forgot" about Leia as far the "last hope" line is concerned. Another reasonable was to read that moment is that Obi-Wan doesn't believe that there's time to start again from scratch training another Jedi to confront Vader and the Emperor. The Empire is gaining more power and the darkness from Palpatine is growing. I think Obi-Wan thinks Luke is the last hope because time is of the essence. Obi-Wan is a Force ghost. Yoda is on borrowed time to by ROTJ. There may not be a physical teacher available to train Leia. Luke needs to find a way to succeed. Now. 2. I also don't necessarily believe that Yoda and Obi-Wan wanted Luke to go kill Vader. I read that more as saying that Luke needs to understand and accept that he MIGHT have to kill Vader if it comes to that, and he must be willing, to quote Obi-Wan, to "do what I must". Yoda never uses the word kill when talking to Luke. "One thing remains. Vader. You must confront Vader. Then, only then, a Jedi will you be." The Order used to tailor a Jedi Trial to the individual Jedi. Confronting Vader, the possibility that he might be beyond saving, that he might have to fight him, is Luke's Jedi Trial. Obi-Wan is very clearly pessimistic about the prospect of getting Anakin to come back. When Obi-Wan tells Luke, "The the Emperor has already won.", I think he's saying that Luke must be willing to trust the Force and do what must be done. For light and life. Even if that unfortunately means killing Vader. Luke needs to confront the dark side represented by his father and the Emperor, and overcome it without giving into and joining it. That's exactly what he does. The moment Luke takes the mantle of Jedi is when he has successfully confronted and rejected the dark side. Anyway, just some thoughts.
@singularrookhart7501
@singularrookhart7501 Год назад
My take... headcanon, whatever... is that Leia inherited more of her father's darkness than anybody realized. On Bespin, when she still saw Lando as a traitor... She was not only going to let Chewbacca strangle Calrissian, she leaned in to get a better look and taunt Lando as he died. "Bloodline" touched on Leia's frustrations and desires (understandable but kept in check) to just wipe out her adversaries. The recent "Tales of the Jedi" added a cautionary example, for me: A fully Force-powered Leia is potentially another Dooku.
@mrfloosak

I think Obi Wan senses that Luke is stronger in the Force than Leia! At this point Obi Wan is one with the Force and Yoda is not. So I believe Obi Wan has forseen a version of the future where it is Luke is the one who defeats Vader.

Old Ben talked to Leia and saw her mother. Boom, Leader-Capital "L". The Boy? A killer like his dad. That's real sad take-a-away. Lack of Vision. Maybe he needed more "Living Force" to see individual potential, rather than destiny. Great channel. Thanks.

Q@A: Would you like to see Sequel Trilogy planets appear as battle zones in the Clone Wars? I think having this, say, a battle on Crait between Clones and Droids with Rex and Mace Windu or Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting Dooku on Takodana would be awesome!

Q&A: Why didn't Owen and Beru change Luke's last name to Lars adter the empire took over? Leia always referred to herself as Leia Organa but Luke referred to himself as Luke skywalker.

Because the Lars knew Shmi Skywalker?

That’s just a side effect of the prequel retcons. Owen and Beru should have named him Luke Lars and told him he was their kid - the way Bail and Brea raised Leia (though she knew she was adopted).

Going with the 6 movies, I think Yoda saying the other hope was Leia was in case something happened to Luke or if he ever turned to the Dark Side then Leia would be the chosen one.

What if Vader, in pursuit over Obi-Wan, discovers that he did not kill Padme? It would be a very general conversation between them. Only three people where there when Padme died. Obi-Wan could fill in the blanks easily without admiting to the birth of a child. Surely the Emperor would not want to risk that conversation!

Q&A: Do you think we’ll get to see live action Kanan in Ahsoka or whatever comes after knowing that we’re dealing with Thrawn and Ezra? Either as a Force Ghost(yes I know he didn’t get the training but hearing him in Rise of Skywalker I think opens that up still) or as some sort of Force Vision by Ezra?

Q&A: If he could come back into canon, what if Galen Marek returned to Star Wars as a strand-cast? The perfect vessel into which Palpatine would transfer his essence until, much like Rey decades later, this genetically engineered heir to the Sith legacy also became a Jedi and sacrificed himself to save his friends while causing some significant damage to the Death Star’s super laser (which once repaired we see being placed back onto the battle station in Rogue One).

Yoda only says Luke must "confront" Vader. Obi Wan does seem to imply he wants Luke to kill Vader. Since we love writing content on the storyteller's behalf, I can imagine that Obi Wan was continuing to manipulate Luke and merely wants him to _attempt_ to kill his father as part of a foreseen redemption arc.

Would’ve appreciated a spoiler alert for Top Gun… nobody died? Well I haven’t seen it yet and I did NOT expect a Top Gun spoiler while listening to a Star Wars show. Unbelievable.

if you want SW + Top Gun vibes the Gundam series " Stardust Memory" is basically that. Gundam in general has tons of great 'pilot-in-the-cockpit' stuff.

Question: Do you think the Ahsoka series will start right after we see her in Book of Boba Fett? Or do you think the show could start with a flashback from when Erza saved her? If Erza is the show's macguffin, maybe this could be a good way to introduce the character to the people who never watched Rebels. Or do you have any guesses of how the show could start?
