Why archery? I don't want to explain my whole personal life here, but if I practice archery it's because it allows me to focus elsewhere and to forget the miserable life that I had to undergo for 10 years of absolute poverty after being a victim a huge injustice and loosing everything, except my bow and nine arrows. This is what allowed me to accept, try to forget the loves ones I lost, to do my best to redo myself, to move forward and to be who I am now.

I'm 41 and a disabled veteran. I do it because it's a low impact sport and good physical therapy for my arms and hands. I get a little discouraged when I have a few bad shots, but then realize, I'm not going to make every shot. I've only been shooting for about two months now and so far, I think I'm doing good. With only RU-vid videos as my instruction and no other formal training, with no prior experience.

For me, it was due to my mental health issues. After suffering a burnout, I needed to find ways to remain active and not shut myself in. A good way to go about that is through sports, but I figured I'd need to get a sport that's also relatively casual - you don't want teammates to be dependent on you when you know you won't Always be able to bring yourself to bring your A-game. In archery, I found a sport that I could do or not do, depending on how I felt that day. When I feel good, I can go to the club and shoot. When I feel okay, I can go to the club and socialize. When I'm not feeling up to it, I can stay home, no harm, no foul. It has helped me clear my mind, and relax while still doing something active. It has given me a new social group that has helped get me through tough times. And it has enabled me to actively work on my recovery. I truly think that most other sports would not have been as good a fit for me.

NUSensei! You are the one that got me to pick my bow up again! I gave up when i was 14y because i could not see progress and everything i did felt wrong. After watching you videos and put it into practise i have become a much better shooter. The key to success in archery as of my point of view is to UNDERSTAND what your doing and WHY you are doing it. So from being 14 knowing nothing about how i can improve. To be 23 Years, Making my own strings, nocking point, arrows and understanding my bow. It has made my bow to another (Limb) of my body xD. Thank you for all your videos. And keep up the hard work Sensei! ("Bows out of respect") Sorry for the puns :P :P Had to:)

I used archery as a therapy to revive my upper body muscles that were put out of shape, thanks to a bad accident and the resulting 6 months of recovery period. It helped a lot and it kept my mind from really sinking into the dark thoughts that sometimes pop out when you're in a compromised or vulnerable state.

@wolfarcher8184
@wolfarcher8184 4 года назад
I do archery because of identity. When I was 10 years old, I shot my first arrow during a school camping trip, and that’s what got me started. I then decided to ask my parents to go to the range. I didn’t get my own bow until I was 17, but my skills have improved through practice and passion. Archery to me is more than just a hobby. It’s what makes me feel special, and I still strive to become better every time I get the chance, and my ultimate goal is to be able to hit a moving target. It gives me joy whenever I shoot, and it’s also a good way to impress friends. It’s even more fun teaching my friends to shoot, and they’re even more impressed when I help them shoot accurately; It’s a very good social activity. I don’t strive to beat others, I only strive to beat myself. My style of archery is a takedown bow with a bridged riser, with pin sights, a stabilizer, and whisker biscuit. My arrows also have 4 fletches. I don’t care about being better than other archers, I only care about what makes me a better archer. I rather form relationships than try to prove I have the better skill, because to me, that’s not what archery is about. I just want to have fun and most of all, I just want to be myself.

I started archery for real and this time and the reason was because I watched a video from survival Lilly with started my curiosity with archery. Then I soon found NUSensei and I was convinced I would like recurve better for its purity and simplicity. I struggle a lot with heavy anxiety and other mental disabilities. This sport is helping me to learn focus and discipline. I feel a sense of achievement every time I go out. Finding an instructor for recurve archery is difficult to find where I am. So NUSensei has taught me almost everything I now know of archery. Thank you sensei

Always been obsessed I think ever since I played legend of zelda ocarina of time and kind of like Grizzly Jim I just love shooting. The feeling the bow makes when you get that nice clean release the sound of the arrow flying off and pounding into the target, no other marksmanship sport has such an engaging feedback loop that makes it so deeply satisfying to hit what you are aiming at. I've always felt like archery is just a little bit magical.

Armin did a video on this and I love it. I feel the same way about this one. Justin's and Jim's answers resonate with me the most. I'm not into competition, couldn't care less about them. I was always drawn to archery, but couldn't afford the money or time to try it. Untill I broke up with my girlfriend 2 years ago. I found myself with money and time and without hesitation I ordered my first bow from ebay. I fell in love with archery after that. It helped get me through the most difficult period of my life. Looking at it now, it's the first thing in my life that I have the will to master. It's relaxing, meditative, and fun. Just over a year into it and I find myself loving it more than ever. Again, awesome video, Nu. I love it 😁

31, just started archery last month. Ive always had an interest, but never dove in to actually learning until I took a lesson. It really resonated with me and I immediately bought my first recurve at set up a 10meter target in my backyard. I find it very comforting that archery is something you can learn at relatively any age.

I did archery (recurve) in my early teens, both as a means to correct my funky shoulderblades but also to reduce stress and focus. Until I wen't into competition everything worked out fine. Eventually I dropped out because it was too stressfull and I couldn't release properly anymore due to target stress (unable to aquire stable lock, releasing as soon as yellow was in sight). Now after many years I'm getting back into archery for the same reasons I started all those years ago (looking into the release issue maybe use a trigger instead of tab?) but with the promise to never shoot competition again. Archery will stick with me for life, I'm pretty sure of that, and I really hope I can find the peacefullness it brought me I had so many years ago.

i built my own bows out of hazel branches when i was a kid. and now im 31 and got my first longbow. the first time i was shooting it i felt like i was a child again all the memories of walking the woods and trying to hit a target far away. the peace you find in the woods, the feeling you get when you draw determined to hit the target. its not about competition with others, its about me enjoying nature and improving myself. it does not sound that interesting i know but for me its a way to clear my mind

I started archery with my daughter as she's not a team sports kind of person unlike her siblings. She'd done archery at a school camp and enjoyed it. I'd done a similar thing many years before. There's an archery club near us so we went along for a come n try session. Barely missed a week from then on till Covid shut down the club. We both enjoy target recurve. I love reading up & watching video's on how to tune your bow and the shot cycle. I really enjoy the at aiming to get better each week. I can go and shoot when ever I like and I find it a nice relaxing escapist activity, especially when I'm shooting well. I love the feeling when you release a shot and it just feels good off the bow and you just know it's been a good shot and then trying to repeat it.

I started doing archery because my favorite book series as a kid “The Ranger’s Apprentice” used bows as the main style of combat. My grandpa noticed I was shooting this crappy fiberglass longbow and he gave me his amazing 1970 Bear Kodiak Hunter. However why I really do it is because it pushes me in areas that I struggle with in all of life. It trains my patients and my focus and it gets me to push myself even when I feel like I’m stuck. Also I was never into sports either so it’s a nice way to get out and do stuff.

Just watched this today. I went to the archery route as I was inspired by a friend in another community (Astronomy). But, it reminded me of a dead dream: To step on the Olympics. I was supposedly part of the National Team but on badminton but on the selection day, I was just surprised that my one and only badminton racket, has it string cut by my mother who was to naive to follow my stepdad to treat me as a babysitter only for my step siblings while the only thing my stepdad knew is to sleep, gamble, drink. I am already 25, and too "old" to make my name in badminton, but what I know, I'm never too old to learn archery until I can be competitive and step on the stage once my parents clipped off from me. If Geena Davis almost made it to the Olympics at 43, how much more I could do at 25?

I started about three weeks ago (I am 30) and it already has had a massive impact on my life. I went from a keyboard warrior who sits 20 hours a day in front of the screen (work or games) to a guy who the moment work is over grabs his bow and runs to the archery range. It has made me a much calmer person and completely negates accumulated stress from work. I enjoy every baby step and every moment when something small clicks and you improve. Its a beautiful hobby and I am so happy I found it.

For me, I am a competitor. I was on the USA casting team for many years and I won the national fly casting championship. I was working on a log cabin for a friend and he was a recurve shooter. He asked if I wanted to go watch him shoot at a 3D event. I bought one raffle ticket and won the prize of a golden eagle 3D bow. I was so excited I joined a league and went target bow crazy. I don’t hunt, but love to focus on a target and shoot. I did very well while competing, but retired to play music for 20 years. I’m now 72 and retired and having fond memories of my shooting times. I may get back into it again, thanks to you.

Why do archery? Well I shot my first bow when I was 9 years old, at a summer camp thing. I remember the feeling it gave me back then, and it was just so amazing. I am now 26 years old, and have started to chase that feeling I felt years ago. My mates bought some bows in the middle of last year and started shooting in our backyard. I then got my first bow, which was a 35lb Samick Sage recurve, but seeing as I am a short person, the 62" Sage was a bit much for me, and I then purchased a Junxing f179 at 56" still at 35lb, and am now shooting 280 to 300 arrows a day practicing my form in my backyard, shooting at 25m. I am still loving it every day, and try to shoot as often as I can, as it seems to be so relaxing, and helps clear my mind on challenging days. ARCHERY IS MY PASSION

Archery is a sport that really stands out to me in more ways than one. Most sports I’ve been in involves me and an opponent. I’ve done karate, I’ve done wrestling, I’ve done boxing, and I’ve done taekwondo. In wrestling, I’ve won a couple of awards in high school. And in boxing, some of my coaches have told me I’m a bit of a tough nut. But archery to me is a sport like no other where it’s you and a target. And to me, it helps me focus in ways I’ve never done before. On top of sports, I’ve always loved the character Legolas in the Lord of the Rings movies. And later on in life, I’ve gotten into a video game called “Skyrim” despite my love for the post-apocalyptic genre like Fallout. Although I’m a bit more exposed to guns and have grown accustomed to them, shooting a bow always feels special to me. It’s almost like I’m living in the days of past family members before me centuries ago. This is why archery is so special to me.

I'm Gary, Im a 63 year old kid. I have only just got interested in Archery. I've spent my whole life doing something or other. I was into model making as a kid. Shooting firearms (life was different then) no one thought you would become a homocidal maniac. Then I found motorcycles, I raced them for many years, till I was about 40, then was sitting on the start line next too a lad, he was on a Kawasaki KX500, he looked at me and winked, I remember he had a sticker on the chin piece of his helmet, "No Fear" I suddenly realised what was holding me back, fear. Fear of crashing and injuring myself (again) but now I had a mortgage, kids,a wife. I realised I was running scared. I quit, sold my bikes and kit and got a road bike. But i needed something else. I got into RC Car racing and in a few years was BRCA champion. I loved the competition, I loved winning. Whilst I would never consider myself to be competative, I obviously was. Shooting re entered my life and air rifles took over again. Target and HFT were my lifeblood. Then it was airsoft and still play as often as I can. But all through my life it was archery I wanted to get involved with. I remembe seeing the Olympics and they showed the Archery, it lit a flame. My marriage broke down last year and living alone has caused me to rethink my life. Archery seems to be the everything I need. Its like Golf, you are only competing with yourself, you play/shoot WITH people not against them. Congratulate the guy who beats you, not despise him. I seem to have picked a bad time too start a new hobby, with the Coronavirus pandemic breaking down society. But I am enjoying learning as much as I can. Who knows what tomorrow wil bring, but for now I am happy. Thanks Nu Sensei, I appreciate your honesty and candor.

The connections they bring, everyone that loves archery gets along in my expierence, i don't get along with everyone to good, i'm the worst at talking, but archery nullified that, you can connect with anyone with the same love. And the personal competition, pushing yourself to get better then you were yesterday. I'm just rambling. :p

I loved archery since I was a child, but only started actually doing it one year ago this month. Considering how deeply in love with it as I am now, I really do regret not starting SO much earlier (33 years old). I measure how much I enjoy something with how much I subconsciously invest in it, and over the last year I have studied, practiced and trained in archery probably more than I have done anything else in my life. I am a very self competitive person so this sport is prefect for me constantly wanting to improve something in myself to perfect it. In just a year I have gone from knowing nothing or ever picked up a bow, to owning all my own Olympic equipment and shooting regular club competitions with a view to try out in wider nationwide comps next year. Also big thanks to people like Nusensei and Jake Kaminski for their videos which really gave me the support I needed coming up from the bottom.

Archery was my 2020 Summer Covid project that started from a team build event from a "prior" job. Like most here state, it provides a therapeutic release with a sense of accomplishment as I grow in it at my pace. It certainly didn't hurt that it is a low impact sport that requires 'no running' 😏 and works for my physique & age. I help teach the newcomers now in the basics, form and shooting skills in hopes it becomes a love for them too. Nothing is more satisfying than to watch a newbie archer grow both in skill and socially. Many are introverts and to watch archery provide them a social release and a newfound confidence is amazing. To see them get their first bow, (I always make a big deal about it) to competing, doing well and becoming a part of the archery club is what makes it fun. Opps, speaking of...gotta go...got archery this morning. So in parting...keep your form, aim true and finish strong. 🏹🎯

I started shooting at age of 20 for fun and I spent a fortune in buying a Hoyt GM and enjoyed for few years. After a while I realized I wasn't good enough so decided to leave my bow in a shelf in garage. Now at age of 61 the passion exploded again (don't know why) and I'm practicing every day with the same bow (but a new string and carbon arrows) feeling pure joy on any shot, enjoying the sound of string and the sound of the arrow hitting the target, filling my lungs with the fresh air in a beautiful green field. It's also a great time to stay with myself, trying to be better and better looking at every aspect of the form, looking at my thoughts, as a form of meditation. The best form of meditation in my opinion.

Why do archery? Back in spring 2012 I felt the need to go back to my roots. No guns and absolute precision and stuff. Just me and the bow. Started a beginners course at my local archery club and stuck to it for several years. A colleague at that that time told me: "you are the Compound guy"- knowing me being intrigued by technology. But it turned out that up to this day, 9 years later, I own no Compound, nor have shot one ever. Clubs passed, there were times were I had to sell precious bows, like my bear 76er at 45#, but there was ever since no time in my life where I did not own a bow, a decent ammount of arrovs and a matching target. Why? Because archery is touching something deep inside of me which cannot be explained. Not by winning matches and medals, but by the satisfaction when you get that perfect round that you did not expect. When you feel it is natural to shoot a bow, just like eating and drinking. And getting that focus on things, something you take from your shooting session right into your office. For me it is a way of life, not a hobby. It digs out the little boy and the knight in me each time. Hope I can do it forever! And to you NUSensei, although I do not always agree, many thanks for many precious advise you have given me on my way!

My grandfather gave me his old hunting bow when he died. I just got it restrung and tuned yesterday. I shot my first arrow the same day. And spent 4 hours shooting. I never knew it was that fun. I have always shot guns, but ammo is expensive. Bows don't run out of ammo.

Nice story. I started two years ago, to my late fourtys (48), and you was my first coach. Exactly one year ago I started to participate in local competitions, and in September went to the Final of my country (Indoor) and in December to the Outdoor Final (70m). I had an shoulder injury, so I dont shoot since April. I would have liked to have discovered the archery before, but anyway, it was some wonderful.

I have never been any kind of sportsman, if it uses a ball I have tried it and hated it. I first picked up a bow 3 years ago during a club motorcycle ride with a stop off at a local have a go club. I reluctantly had a go as the rest of the club was having a go and much, or should I say Very Much to my surprise I actually enjoyed it. I was 59 years young and actually found a sport I did enjoy. I bought my first bow and watched as many of Nu's videos I could find. Being out of work and suffering from depression I found it a great lever to strive to get out of the house. I have now joined a local club and have even got involved with helping with our beginners courses.

I’m going to share this on my Facebook page as I think it is a great question to ask everyone. I got into this sport thanks to our wedding anniversary. We were on holiday and saw in a tourist information site “afternoon of field archery”. We loved it and wanted to do more. We found the mix of being out and about, shooting different courses was great and wanted to support it and give back. That was over 10 years ago and now we are both coaches, shot locally and nationally. I write off the arrow shelf blog too when time permits. We have our own range in the garden and my better half is chairperson of a local club Briar Rose as well as coach for scouts.

Wow great video. I only started archery or rather restarted my archery journey last year. Because of life, I originally started when I was 23 but had to stop. Last year I was 28 and I've grown a lot. Now I'm a fan of being able to do both 3 finger and thumb on the same bow so I've got an ambidextrous ilf riser that I'm testing out. Like one of the guys in the video I shoot simply because I love it. But I also use it as a martial art and a way to relax. Unfortunately I've only got my home range which is maybe 8m but thats ok! I only just started to do thumb archery properly with this riser, I hope to beat my previous score once we go back to normal. I'll be getting my form down until then.

Always loved seeing it in films or reading about it in books but it always seemed so far away. Then I googled archery clubs and found one not very far away at all. Suddenly I was shooting and it has a primal joy for me. Better still my standard recurve went out the window when I found traditional archery and horse bows. Something about horse bows is written in my dna. Love archery.

Thank you so much, NUSensei, for sharing what you share and how you share. I love you for it. A simple bow always atrackted me, but I never got around to do any shooting. Then I met with a school friend and she casually mentioned she did archery. I felt this insane moment of jaleousy and I knew that I wanted to do something with archery. I'm on a very tight budget, so I had no idea how to proceed. Then I found you, or rather your YT-channel and I just dove in there. I found out that a cheap bow is just fine for a beginner. So I got myself a cheap bow. And some cheap arrows. They turned out not to be fine, so I got slightly better arrows. I started shooting and I love it! I just Love the whole proces from getting your feet in to position al the way through to loosing the arrow. I is such a wonderful experience. Every shot again. And I keep coming back at your channel for finding out more information and trying to apply that. So that's it. That's how I got into archery. If I don't I will just remain that jaleous person. And who needs that :-)

I hadn’t shot a bow since summer camp ; 42 years ago. Now I’m totally hooked and getting better and shooting farther every chance I get. I made a killer target stand and back stop from a swing set frame with a rubber truck bed mat for the backstop.

My dad bought me a bow when I was 10 years old, I remember how much I enjoyed shooting it, and actually got pretty good…. Fast forward 60 years, I am now 70. I just picked up a new recurve bow and plan to get back into it. Have to go slow, but I’m looking forward to it. Thanks new sensei.

Archery is an individual pursuit. And because of that, it can become a part of who you are. There were times when I shot every day, times when I did not shoot for months. I shot with friends and I shot alone. During this quarantine I became an instructor to my kid. Few other activities can change to fit your lifestyle and remain with you as you yourself change and grow. Importantly, it is also affordable. Once you have your gear, there are very few costs involved.

A stick with a string launches another stick with feathers and if you do it right your brain and eye allows the arrow to be one of the most beautiful things in the world as it flies where you wanted it to go.

I always said that one day Id love to take up a new skill, and always wanted to try archery. Whilst on holidays and days out, we’d go to a country park, and a local archery club to invite visitors to ‘have a go’. So l did. And showing some beginners luck was advised to take it further. Long story short, I am now retired, and finally have time to learn. Im not particularly sporty, not a team player, but wanted an individual but social sport. Archery is amongst the oldest there is. So lve done my beginners course, and now just need practice to help me improve and standardise my technique. This is the hardest problem I face. There are few archery clubs that offer open access, and only offer limited access to facilities. But lm hooked.

I tried archery once on a team building exercise in the early 2000's and I thoroughly enjoyed it - and I was reasonably average at it if I remember rightly. But I found some kind of quiet satisfaction in the calm of the moment just before I released the arrows. Sadly, I never investigated getting into it any further and now I wish I had. Now, almost twenty years on, I find myself bitten by the bug and all these videos are making me want to buy a starter kit and find a field to go shooting in. But first I want to find somewhere to try it out and have a go to see if I still have those same feelings I had when I tried it the first time. For now, I'm just going to crack on and keep watching these amazing and inspiring videos.

I do archery because every single bad shot is a reason to get up and try to do better, again and again, it is a constant reason to keep doing it. And so is life, you fail again and again and archery teaches you to always try to do better, until you succeed and then the challenge becomes greater and so do the achievements.

I got started when i received a Bear archery Species as a gift. To add to that, at the time, i needed something to help give mental stability. I later purchased a bear archery recurve and started more traditional archery. I find it very relaxing, meditative, and focusing. I’m not a competitive person, I’m more cureous and love every minute of my journey.

What i've succeded was because of the help of Nu sensei very informative rich videos. Starting around 12 yrs old , and now im 17 turning 18. Maybe it's a bit late but , i really wanna give it a last try , more serious this time.

Why I started? A friend took it up after he saw Lars, and it seemed fun. Only shot maybe 5 times over the course of two years (this shit is hard, way harder than I expected). Then, lockdown! Now archery has kept me sane for the last two months. I've fallen in love with the process, albeit extremely slow, the improvement is there. Archery is a slow growth activity. But now that I'm in it, I'm in love

I started growing my passion for archery when I was just 6 years old. I know it’s funny, but when the Disney movie Brave came out, I loved how she did archery, and I fell in love. Then when I was 12, I got a bow for my birthday. After getting the bow, I realized that it helps me focus, and keep my mind off things. It definitely gets my stress out! It also helped with my posture and helping me grow stronger. This is why I love archery 💕

My fiancé introduced me to archery and I just started a few months ago. I still have some bruises from the string “slapping” my forearm! Haha. I’m a newbie, but I’m learning! I love archery because I get to spend time with my fiancé, get a little competitive, and make bets on who buys dinner! I also love archery because I can be quiet on my own and relieve some stress after doing dentistry all day. I cater to patients all day, and hear the whirring noises of a hand piece. The sound of an arrow hitting the target and focusing on my breathing soothes me.

I been doing archery since I was 5 years old I’m 23 now the reason I do archery is because it fun and the individual aspects of it to sum it up that fact there at the end of the day it’s just me and my bow no one forcing me to do better I do because I want to be better And it a good stress reliever for me and allows me to focus since I have ADHA Tourette’s Asperger’s and a few other it a good outlet for those things I know it my response is a bit jumble up but I hope you see where I’m coming from

I started archery fairly old at the age of 14 and I grew interested in it after my older brother got me my first practice bow and I fell in love with the sport. I also got interested in the sport because it is a historical sport and my favorite genre to write is Medieval Fantasy. Also, I love that it's also a sport the takes skill and a lot of practice to get good at that but the sad thing is I got a new bow not long ago it a recurve with 40lbs of Draw weight but I have been able to use it because I live with my family in a town and the bow does powerful to shot in my back yard and I don't have a target to use ether. also, my favorite thing in archery is just how much it reminds me of being a medieval ranger wandering the land and exploring now things and helping with the law

I want to start archery because I need to find my inner stillness. In My job as an Craniosacral Therapist, I have to first be in my midline and find my deep inner stillness. But this is one of my problem. I don’t like team sport and in my age my body is not able to run or do all this fancy exercises. I have bad knees and arthritis. But I love to do thinks and sports where I can be just with me and my thought. Most important to calm down my mind. For me archery is a kind of meditation and I can learn to have a better posture. I just bought my first bow for beginners and I have never done it before . I’m in the UK under lockdown now for 8 weeks and there is any close contact with friends forbidden. But as soon this is lifted I will for a archery club to get proper training. And go from there. Thanks for your amazing videos !

Very interesting, Yeah I started about a year ago already and it was my friend that brought the topic while we were playing games . I have been doing skateboarding for eight years and then I told myself lets put as much effort. Then I got hooked, its great to honour our ancestors, we meet incredible people and its a way to become a better individual. (no matter the style, it gave me more of a mental focus or balance and I have love it since I am a kid ) It is Not to say that I am better than that individual !
