Thank you Steve Ray. For those who would like to go on a pilgrimage, and you don't have the money to travel far, find a Catholic Shrine or another special Catholic place. Bring a prayer book or two, your Rosary and your opened heart. Take a few days to talk to, listen, and experience Our Lord. If the Holy Eucharist is exposed, and Mass is available please take advantage of that. God bless.

The connection is this: After the age of the catacombs, with the ascent of Constantine and Theodosius to the imperial Roman throne, Christians were free to make pilgrimages to Palestine. This was always a dangerous journey, especially after the seventh century and the rise of Islam, drawing all sorts of wayfarers: the genuinely pious, the penitents, the adventurers, the seekers of fortune, and the runners from justice. Usually the pilgrims traveled in caravans for safety. The French coined the word saunter to describe such peripatetic meanderings of vagabond types on their way to Saint Terre. ... I don't like either the word [hike] or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains - not 'hike!' Do you know the origin of that word saunter? It's a beautiful word. Away back in the middle ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going they would reply, 'A la sainte terre', 'To the Holy Land.' And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them. -John Muir . . . I will be traveling at a Sauntering pace. . .with no real direction...one day I might stay in Camp, another day I will do 20 miles, and the next maybe 10 miles...or 35 miles...I have no where I am going and all the time to get their. . .if I see a side road, I just might take it, to see where it goes... I am in Prescott, Arizona at this time, another good thing about a Burly Nomad bicycle Trailer is Burley sells a walking harness set-up...that let's you unhook your Burly trailer from your Bicycle and their is a waist belt like a backpack that let's you hook up your Burly Nomad trailer to your waist, then you can walk with your gear. . . Instead of always pedaling it...so as a Friar I could leave my touring Bicycle at a church or some bodies home for a week, then use my Burley as a Walking trailer carry my gear to go into all the World to Preach the Gospel of Salvation to everyone. Mark 16:15, Come back get my bicycle and travel, and do it again but it another City or town... . . .
