Why do FERRARIS ALWAYS BREAK???

A common belief is that Ferraris are always breaking and my experience has been quite different. Yes, they may require some maintenance and it certainly will be expensive maintenance, but the modern Ferraris are actually quite reliable.

@Zack Smith oh I thought you ment because he was too tall or something but he is only about 6ft. It's not that hard to drive the clutch and steering is no harder than any car with no power steering if anything it is easier than bigger cars and he used it as a daily driver so that speaks for itself
@magiccheeseball

@Zack Smith I'm sure he means hard relative to an average car not like you need super strength it's harder than average but I'm sure no defrent than any simular older car. I drove many cars like that back in the day they are a bit of pain when driving slow and parking buts it's no big deal, it would be now that I'm an old fart though haha

You are right. I have nearly 30 years experience with Ferrari. You need to use the car regularly. It’s made for driving,not for standing in the garage. But you need to put your eye on some simple things. Always start the car up and drive until the oil is at least 70 degrees Celsius warm. Then you can push the throttle as much as you can. The car will like it. When you want to stop the car, slow down and strive the last miles in a normal speed to cool down. Your car will say thanks.
@normalguysupercar
@normalguysupercar 4 года назад
Yup exactly! But that honestly goes for almost all cars. Granted modern cars with modern synthetic oils are more resilient to that sort of stuff, but it's still a simple step to save a lot of wear.

I agree. I bought a 2008 Cayenne GTS last year with 36k on it. I’ve had to do a ton of maintenance on it just to get it up to working normally. coils, plugs, all fluids, end links, upper control arms. bushings were shot because it was only driven as a florida snow bird car since new.

I had a 2000 Celica that I had for about 5 years and was a daily driver and nothing really broke on it. Just kept up with regular maintenance and drove it every day. Still had the original clutch, didn't have to change the brake pads either because I'd often manage speed with engine braking. Was a good car but a bit boring as a slow fwd car. But it never let me down

This is spot on. Especially for older cars regardless of make/model. Certain cars (weather dependent) I make a point to drive and warm up to temperature once a week. Others I can get by only taking them out once a month (newer cars). You do get a break with mid engine cars in regard to suspension and bushing wear due to weight distribution while sitting. Good video.

Hi Dan, I totally agree with your analysis. I am in Hong Kong and I bought my 2013 one previous owner 458 spider in 2017 with 7,450 km on the odometer. I drive the car regularly and for long distances. It has now covered 25,000 km. The only problem I had on this car are oil seepage from the cam covers and the gaskets have been replaced in 2022. Thanks to your very informative video I advised my mechanic that this does not have to be an engine out operation and can be done with the engine in situ. Have to be very careful when refitting the high pressure fuel pumps. Of all the 458s I have seen in HK, all have this oil seepage problem from the cam cover gaskets. If you go back to the official dealer they will tell you that its an engine out job. The other minor problem is a broken steering linkage bellow this year. Can't really complaint about this happening after 10 years. Another problem is the carbon built up in the intake valves but this is caused by wall guided direct injection and blow back at idling speed. This is NOT a Ferrari problem but affects all direct injection engines. This has been fixed by my mechanic with walnut shell blasting. The other night there was a traffic accident and I was in the 458 and got stuck in the HK Cross Harbour Tunnel for an hour. Temperature gauge went up to just over 100 but not above. I have replaced the headers with iPE equal length with heatshield protection. The heat shield really helped with the temperature in the engine compartment. Once I got out of the tunnel the temperature come down swiftly. In June I was out of town for 3 weeks and when I got back the 458 started without any problem. I did not have to put a battery tender on it before trying to start the car. I can say from my own experience that if you drive your car regularly the 458 is a very reliable car.

I broke a universal joint around 30k, replaced the clutch around 50k, then around 60k it started refusing to go into reverse. Put an upgraded trans in at that time. Needs new front wheel bearings now. Seat is worn out from doing the ass-flop. (It's lowered!) I drive it hard 50% of the time. 72k smiles now.

I have a 1941 Ford GPW Jeep. On the inside there is a original label on hat said to "start and drive the vehicle every 21 days" even back then it was known to use and move the vehicle. When I had my 64 1/2 Mustang I never drove it in the winter but every month I took it out for several miles to " move the fluids"
@normalguysupercar
@normalguysupercar 4 года назад
That's really fascinating about the Jeep. I would be it was even more so a problem on cars from that era as the lubricants weren't as good, and the gaskets were problem much lower grade than some of the impressive engineering they can accomplish now.

I have owned a 308 512bb and F430 and the reliability of these cars has been as good as the 7 Porsches I have owned.What is different is the routine maintenance required for the cars.My mechanic and myself are probably still the only ones to do the cam belts on a 512bb without taking the engine out.As time goes by we may start seeing more electrical problems with the newer cars.Try 205 Re Seal for rubber life extension per Scotty Kilmers rec.Have used this and so far it has worked.My 1970 Datsun 240Z still runs fine but needs hoses now. Fuel pump and convertible top seals have worn of the F430.Routine maintenance will always be an issue and older Ferraris will always need more than most cars but as a comparison my 1981 930 Turbo needed an engine rebuild after 40,000 mi Congrats on your increase in subs1

Fuel pump replacement after 14 years which is normal and cost pretty much the same as a Vw Golf, front disc rotor is 175 euro including VAT and small electrical type problems that cost next to nothing to be resolved. Just like you say most if not all the problems I had are related to the previous owner not driving the car. My biggest expenses are insurance and tax.

My question is whether the 488 gtb (I know the one in the video is a 458) is as reliable as a Huracan? I see many customers complaining about the battery that runs out quickly, the turbos with oil leaks, the TPMs sensors that give constant errors and the Huracans that I only hear are bulletproof

I would think so.

@@normalguysupercar I'm undecided between buying one or the other for daily use. In my country, a Huracan 610-4 costs around 225 thousand € and a 488 gtb costs 275 thousand. I think the 488 is prettier, but I only hear wonderful things about the Huracan and a difference of 50 thousand is a big gamble 😅

I am experiencing the same issue with content for my channel. My 2014 Maserati Ghibli SQ4 is my daily driver, has 75K miles on it and does not break. I did all the maintenance on it already accept brake pads. Does not yet need them yet. I've had it for over two years now, and have had only 1 problem. Battery, which was the factory battery, was over 4 years old and needed to be replaced anyhow. Coworkers have been asking me for the last 2 years how my Maserati is, like they are expecting me to tell them it's broke. hehe.

Thousand years ago I knew of a guy with a 250GT SWB that he had trouble starting. His solution was to pull the Columbo V12 and install a 327 Corvette with 4 Weber's. My dad could never get it to run right so on went a 4bbl. It was driven in the Love Bug movie by my dad. He had a few hairy moments in it but the one I recall was how the wheels started to spin in 4th gear down the back straight at Riverside. Granted the track was damp... I would love to know what happened to that car and if it was ever reunited with its engine. Apologies for the trip down memory lane.

The Miata is a perfect example of cars that sit and don’t get driven much. There are many 20-30 year old Miatas with under 100K miles, some even under 50K, because for most people they’re just weekend fun/toy/track cars. And so these older cars with fairly low miles sell for cheap because they have a lot of problems despite the low miles.

U missed the most important fact is that the more complex a car is engineered and built, the easier it is to break, in other words ppl call it "unreliable" but we know its not really the case, just compare how many parts used and the level of technology and craftmanship required for building a Farrari and a Honda civic, then u know the answer, also Toyota camery deliberately used less parts and low tech to enhance "reliabilty", so there is always a reason behind it, also Toyota is designed to last years for those low income ppl so they can afford it, but thats not the purpose for building a Farrari right? Jesus, some ppl just doesnt use their brain to think!

I agree with you for the most part. People should not compare a high performance vehicles to a mass produced vehicle. But Japanese manufacturers do mass produce engines of high output with respect to 100 hp/liter. Also things like sticky switches, droopy headliners, leather that falls apart, window regulators and door handle failures have nothing to do with performance but more with better choice of materials etc, and for such an expensive vehicle like a Ferrari, they really should not really skimp when cheaper mass produced cars do not have the same types of issues. I don't own an exotic car but my old motorcycle, a 1993 Kawasaki Ninja ZX7 which I ride only a few times a year does so reliably and does not fall apart from sitting. The right materials can last a very long time.

Amazing cars but wont see Italians putting anyone on the moon soon. My TR two issues the weak output shaft with trans and a few electrical gremlins otherwise its been solid. Like the TR you must let it warm up for a few minutes otherwise its known that you must skip 2nd gear you wont be able to get into it so if you don't have time to really warm it up, you are shifting from 1st gear to 3rd gear. Yep the garage queens with owners bragging the car only has 1500 miles are ones that you might want to step away from unless the service is already done. Great factual video and not hearsay :) :) Im a corvette guy and performance level, they are already there LOL From the z06 to zr1. From Nurburg times to HP. c6 zr1 is bullet proof and pulled a ring time 8 seconds faster than an enzo. C6 z06 did as well. I hammered my vettes and expect breakage for how i drove it but its true, you can hammer the hell out of a vette and its solid. The base c7 is solid but again you have 4 levels of vette (c7 , including the grand sport)
