My wife and I moved from Florida back to the Philippines. She’s originally from the Philippines. We moved right before the pandemic. I think the biggest problem here is that a lot of foreigners see videos from other content creators that say that you can live here comfortable for a small budget. And in reality if you want a small western lifestyle, you need a good budget. I believe the sweet spot is between 2 to 3000 a month to be able to have the things that you would want to make you happy here. And most most the time if your wife is from the city, you do not have to take care of the family or anybody else because the family all have good jobs and make plenty of money and don’t need any help from the foreigner. A lot of problems are because the guys will pick the wrong Filipina as their girlfriend. Because they’re looking for somebody half their age. This was a great video and a lot of great information for everybody. My wife and I will be watching all your videos. You have a great channel.
Not all foreigners are rich, White or Black Thousands of People in the U.S. are homeless, broke and unemployed, sad to say everything is expensive and crime is so high..! thats why they are moving to the Philippines, they think everything is cheap..😢😔🙏..
The heat and humidity are no joke. It can be seriously miserable. Many buildings and shops don't have air conditioning, and it's the same with many taxi's, trikes, and jeepnees. Even if you find air conditioning, it's a window mount or mini split, so the humidity is still a problem. If you're over 5'10", you'll be ducking a lot. Local food and labor is cheap, but a Big Mac in Manila, an Army Navy burger in Baguio, or a Shakey's pizza in Cebu are essentially the same price as America. Poor people are everywhere, and you'll meet beggars that will follow you. They'll even reach out and grab you. Gas for your car is higher than most parts of America (currently $4.62/gallon in Manila), and so is electricity for your house/condo (12 pesos which is $.21/kwh). Land is inexpensive in the countryside, but the 1/4 acre I'm looking at in Taytay Rizal near Manila proper is $105k USD. That's double the price of land I have in Wisconsin. They have something similar to a sales tax called the VAT tax - it's 12% 😳 That really changes the cost of things. Most of the people are friendly, and many of them know some English. There are a lot of single women, and I'd say about 15-20% of them are pretty. Most of them are very poor, so hold onto your purse strings. If they have a job, it's at the minimum wage of about $10/day. Also, prices aren't always posted for food, transportation, and other services, and they'll often try to overcharge you. I took a trike to a restaurant for 80 pesos, and a trike back wanted 150 pesos. Beyond high gas prices, there are road tolls all over the place, and many aren't cheap (tolls on the skyway can be $6 at each plaza). People are everywhere, and most people give you a smile. The land outside of the cities is beautiful, and this is where you might fall in love with it. In the cities, it's quite an experience to be around so many people all of the time. There are people walking everywhere all the time, and I've never seen so many vehicles on the roads. The traffic is crazy with almost no stoplights, and motorbikes swerving through every inch of traffic. There are cameras everywhere. You're always being watched. Even the average restaurant has security guards inside or nearby. There are speed cameras on the highways that will clock you, and you'll get a ticket in the mail, or at the next toll plaza. Anyhow, they have a beautiful culture and heritage, and the beaches are amazing. The Philippines has pros and cons like any country, so you'll have to weigh things out. Definitely visit a couple times before you make a commitment to drop what you have in your homeland to move to the PH. More likely than not, you'll need to have your own business, or already have a large savings in place with residual income like social security to move here, because it's difficult to get a job in the PH, and the wages are so low. Like I mentioned, minimum wage is about $10/day, and that covers most available jobs like construction, restaurants, drivers, call centers, etc. That hardly covers the basics for living.
wow u kinda nailed it all. U live near Manilla? Im heading to Davao again end of this month and permanently this time next year. Davao is a little less hectic, no beggars, the usual kids of course, but no homeless I saw, more homeless in Australia. God bless and great write up
I have lived here for almost 6 years and I am having a hard time adapting to the Give Me give me culture, I like that give it to me, can I borrow, its my birthday coming up what are you buying me. If you do give them something you will not receive a thank you but you might hear I wanted the bigger size or the more expensive item. they talk about Filipino Pride but have no shame in asking people to give them things. If I had behaved like that as a child my parents would have punished me for the embarrassment I caused them for making people think I was not raised with better manners. But that behavior is very accepted here in The Philippines.
Been here 2 years with my gF and inspite of the heat I love it. Have air conditioning, live in a condo, city lights go out and don't have brownouts. Older now so I must be careful in direct sunlight. My family has all passed away and was a bit lonely in the US but no more. I have a family who adoped me from Mendoro to Manila. Not an ATM other than small loans less than 10k and have been paid back. I am not lonely anymore. I am retired civil service and my money goes further here while I have a nice savings in both countries. Going to apply for an SRRV so that I can stay. The people here are peacefull, happy and respectfull and there is little crime. I never feel unwelcome by the people except for some reason many other foreigners won't make eye contact while others will stop and talk your ear off. I will stay.
Boom! Mic drop! No need to watch anymore videos. This video either excites you to keep planning or gets you to rethink somethings before you do head to the Philippines, either way though subscribe and keep watching - excellent video!
I just came across your channel. I love it. I am from Brooklyn, New York, USA. I went to the Philippines 🇵🇭 in March of 2024. My fiance is Filipina from the Philippines. You are right. Long lines and patience are key.
All I got to say is Mindanao,Mindanao,Mindanao and the southern region of the Philippines is where I will spend most of my time when I come to the Philippines because I won’t be dealing with none of the congestion of bad traffic. Its also more rural and have a more cultural setting no inflated prices at the markets nor with housing because there is less foreign investors in that area in the Philippines and more Filipino markets and less corporate establishments and less big food chains.I seriously don’t understand why Filipinas don’t recommend the southern region of the Philippines. And it’s not as dangerous as they say it is it’s actually more peaceful than everywhere else in the Philippines because in the southern most region of the Philippines there not trying to get over on you even though you are a foreigner there not money hungry. They will even give you some food for free without you even asking I witnessed it from one RU-vidr that went in tawi tawi.I can see the difference in interaction with those Filipino people compared to the rest of the Philippines.Yes the southern region of the Philippines are Muslims and that’s why all the other Filipino people stay away from their for what I don’t know. But the southern region of the Philippines I can tell they are more direct and upfront there not shady it’s way too much shadiness going on in other parts of the Philippines where most other foreigners are at like in Manila,Cebu, makati, angles,Cebu it park, dumaguete.I will only visit those hit spot areas but as far as staying their hell no🤔.I choose the southern region of the Philippines over any other part of the Philippines because it is the best and it’s completely different. The other thing I noticed about the southern region of the Philippines is that they do things there own way and it is more structure people are more disciplined and there not influenced by modernism 😊.
Didn't know your channel yet - just subscribed. I live in Pangasinan, where, at least from all I know, it was even hotter in April/May than in Cebu. I'm from Germany and survived that easily (I don't like aircon and never sleep with it, and I really know now what "summer" means in the Philippines). I don't think that weather or all the other (totally true) things you mention are really crucial (at least for those who come here knowing all this already and who have tried it out for a while). The question is why people don't want to live in their Western countries anymore. I made a personal video about it - it can be found on my channel. II think I can still stay, and so can many others. Nothing has changed, so the title of this video is a bit confusing. Your information is absolutely correct, though.
One thing I have noticed is that Filipino people are addicted to processed, high starch, high carbohydrate foods. Lots of fried foods, fried in processed oils, tons of processed sugar products. Like in the west, the Philippines has huge problem with chronic illness. Guess what? Its because of all these things i mentioned that chronic illness has become so wide spread there.
I do not think you are accounting for the frustration that comes from the angry old man who cannot yet sort out the culture shock. A lot of the frustration is not from the Philippine culture, it is from the guys inability to adapt.
Always take a 'vacation' to any place you are planning to live. Even if just a couple states away from where you are. Utube can not convey the differences in tastes, smells, noise, etc. If you are a big hearted person, the way they treat animals in other countries can shock you. Really shock you. The level of poverty can shake you to your core. Stay at least a good month visiting areas before you decide to move. People are people the world over. They will mostly be good and helpful. But what is concidered 'rude' can vary greatly. Plan on learning the local language. Don't expect everyone to change for you. Be polite. Exceedingly polite. To EVERYONE. Expect a lot of miscommunication. Don't take offense when you think you were made fun of. It could just be context. And be very open minded. The culture is different. The people probably think completely different than you. But most importantly, go with the flow. Enjoy your time. When you get back home you can decide if you still want to move there.👍🍻
No country is perfect. If our country doesnt fit you, it doesn't mean it is bad at all. There are pros and cons in every country, you live in. I think find the country suited for you. But after all that said, Philippines is still here welcoming all of you expats. 🤗🇵🇭 You will always have a place here in our country. ❤️
I would also be sweating like a sprinkler quite nervously all days when I would be daily living by the side of such a beauty as man Steph on the Philippines is. Bongbong M cannot even get it done to have me sweating the moist like a shower sprayhead when mam Steph's presence gets you innerly attached and all warmed up like wildfire spreading. The doctor soon telling me to better take a leave, and there you have it already. Another one biting the dust and having to say PH's goodbye.
@@KILLAHSYN like Bryan Ferry sung since 1975 on the Siren album, and Steph has the mysterious magical attraction of the far calls of Sirenical beauty as well by the way, "Love is the DRUG" (successful '75 Roxy music chart single), but sorry to find out there is no drug on your state of emotion, cause for "No-Humor" it can turn out into a senseless search. Lots of smiles, for nearby future anyway and just "Cheeriooh". And J. Morrison came up with "break on through to the other side", but without a laugh coming up, I doubt it, in your ongoing state. Pleasant day to you, anyway-anyhow. A day without a 😂 is a day, not lived fully.
They say a man in love takes no advice. Just realize in the Philippines you may be the prize but a beautiful Filipino in the UK or USA she's now the prize. It won't take them long to figure that out. Best of luck but realize you are playing a 50/50 game of chance.
Hi! Expats are a funny bunch. #1 they shouldn't give up just because the first girl doesn't work out...there will be another one. #2 they are not in Kansas anymore and need to adjust to their new home country in as many ways as possible. #3 Look for a girl that can keep the family drama outside of your relationship...its possible. Thanks for the great video.
What is the humidity % typical or on average? Is it pretty uniform across the islands? Here in the USA we can go from Florida swamps to Arizona deserts so humidity can go from oppressive to negligible.
All true. I guess you could list these points under the heading of false expectations. I think it’s crazy to sell all of your possessions and move to PH without spending time beforehand exploring and thinking deeply about whether or not you can survive. There are many challenges. Know thyself, as the saying goes.
Easy problems to solve you are talking about. Get solar panels to off set the electric bill. Set boundries and not pay for everything. If they are a bother live hours away or on another island. Family is everything in the PI but a foreigner is not obligated like a Filipina is!😀
It is 10000000% true that dating or marrying Filipina you are dating/marrying their entire family and expected to be their 24/7 financial lifeline for anything and everything. It is what it is. They phrase it as a 'loan', but ... yeah.
I can retire in the Philippines for $1,000 a month. Last thing I'd be worried about is a Filipina . The only thing that would run me out of the Philippines is that there are no nursing homes for old people.
Thank you fornsomemamazing and open and upfront reality and ive seen and experienced lots of them... Im open minded but think you have to adopt to any country and their inhabitants I love heat and im from uk nut have felt hotter than Phil.. Still want to settle there as it already feels like home now thanks to my Amazing woman 😊😊😘😘
Only thing a have is the traffic and getting my snuff it is 5 dollars cheaper plus I been thru hard times yes I got land there for my wife and have a SUV car I'm very happy there poeple that never had it hard should not go there I understand life and how it works yes I have very good ac there the house but Im lucky ur family have money her brother pays for me and wife when go out to eat I pay for then too when we go out yes you go there you need to have money it's not all cheap if you want to live like a dog or pet for me to live good there you need 2000 a month
Some guys are so narrow headed to think things out before they depart off into Paradise anyway The Philippines is no place for old fools or young alike. Nevermind the women they need to find out more about the Philippines and develop a genuine interest in the country. Some guys would follow a bikini to hell only to realize it’s too hot down there. They think being stranded alone in an island with a woman would be paradise but it’s actually a disaster for the both of them. Shining knights running around with Capital One in their wallet soon struggle making the payments along with their daily needs due to playing Mr Rich and Famous and running out of credit line. They need to go home before they broke. Especially if u kids to feed etc. People don’t think before they jump. They fix on bikinis and coconut trees and rather coming there on vacation before selling everything they own and checking out the Philippines not the women then they possibly couldn’t know it’s for them or not. Most book the woman then the trip so there u go folks that’s the reality of it. Gotta get a grip before u go or at least be able to look n the mirror and say it’s your fault if things didn’t go well.
Honestly you can't live in air conditioning 24/7, that will also make you ill, it has been hoter lately in the Philippines, but its still a great place to live
You're correct. I live here, and ONLY run the air conditioning when I go to bed. Plus, I don't want electric bills that rival the cost of my home country
