Yet another reason I love my Himalayan - it does exactly what it is designed to do even in unmodified, straight-out-of-the-box condition. On my ride home from work each day I have a choice of two routes. One is stop/go commuting on urban roads and the other involves a gentle bimble along twisty country lanes (not unlike the deer trails in your videos but twistier and with two-way traffic). Overnight rain had fallen on the frozen ground creating a layer of sheet ice. Then it snowed. After that we got hail followed by more rain which, to absolutely no-one's surprise, froze on top. The best way I can describe the surface of the roads I was about to ride over is pale grey, rather "knobbly", and very slippy! Since trying to stop on ice/snow is when you are most like to have an accident I chose the rural route (though I did wait for sunrise so I could more clearly see what I was dealing with) where I could trundle along in second and third gear between 2000 and 3000rpm - Himalayan owners should have no problem working out how fast I was going ;-) Yes, there were a few times when I had to "feather the clutch" but the Himalayan handled the conditions like a champion and the ride was so much fun! After I had parked the bike at home I walked back up the road to examine the print left by the tyres in the snow/ice/slush. The stock Pirelli tyres left a perfect print with absolutely no evidence of clogging or slippage. Well that explains why it felt so sure-footed. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this bike :-)

I love those bikes, here in Colombia, Royal Enfield is growing so much, it's amazing. Many years ago - before Japanese bikes - we used to have mostly English bikes like Triumph, Royal Enfield, BSA, Vincent, so nowadays we're seeing RE again, and is love at first sight. Hey! have a fantastic New Year, and thanks for sharing your POV's.

Great vid. 👍🏻 I think the things that make me love this bike are the fact it’s introduced me to other aspects of riding. I’ve a couple of bigger bikes that I would never take out in the conditions i'll happily ride the Himi. It also slows you down, you take in more of the ride and I’ve discovered places down little roads and tracks near where I live that I didn’t even know existed. I’ve ridden for 5/6 hours with luggage and a tent. Pitched up, rode off- road all weekend, loaded my kit up and rode home again. All on a bike than costs about the same as a deposit on some big adv bikes.

You have many valid points there...👍 In addition from my POV - the Hima is something totally different! It doesnt look or feel like any other bike and it has very little in common with any other brand or model. And I think that appeals to many riders out there. Its also a very low strung engine and long stroke - so no need to rev the shit out of it, power comes in from low rpms. The engine is very little stressed so to speak. Something many riders like. Those who dont care about spec sheets and the numbers there...

For 10 years my everyday transport was 350 Bullet + Watsonian ML1 sidecar. For winter riding sidecar outfits are the best thing you can get! When it comes to riding solo bikes in winter high speed is irrelevant but slow speed handling and stability are super important which is why I like my Himalayan so much :-)

Come from a family of RE riders, still have a 1976 RE Bullet 350, and that thing's literally bullet-proof (no pun intended). Had it standing for 11 years with a lazy family member and still started with a new battery. I bought my own 2005 Thunderbird 350 (single stroke air cooled) with part time jobs and rode 140,000 Kms; the only things I changed on it are the oil, the clutches and tyres. Good to see the persistence in the design finally show itself. Cheers and love from India! 🇮🇳

I found I love it because of the comfort of the seat and....almost like a familiarity....I started out riding on a Buell Blast and graduated to a 78 Sportster 20 years ago.....I was comfortable riding the Himalayan right away....a rarity for me.....It was almost like my two bikes rolled into one....,like the 492cc Buell engine cradled in a sportster frame....on stilts.....LOL.....it cornered like my sportster without the fear of scraping the foot pegs....the familiar thump and power of the Blast.....unlike the Sportster or the Buell....the Himalayan was comfortable on long rides right out of the crate....no numb hands, no numb ass, no ringing of the ears.....pure comfort.....the roads I ride are much like yours, country roads full of hills and curves.....and the Himilayan was built for that type of riding....to say I'm happy is an understatement....can't wait for spring.....

I personally have over 14,000 miles on my 2019 Himalayan. I have done a lot of highway riding and offroad riding. Most of it is highway. I went to Glacier, Redwoods, Crater lake. Wish it went a little faster and had a little more power but for the price you cant beat it. Anyway, I am saying you can push it, drop it, ride for long stretches and not have a problem. I had some electrical problems that stranded me a few times but with the warranty it was fixed. I also ha e a Intercepter 650 and that's a blast but without any issues so far. Anyway that's my 2 cents. Have a Happy New Year and keep on riding!

@@mbetley07 Welcome man. The handlebar risers mod also improves riding experience for taller riders. The only major problem I believe the tall riders face is when standing on the footpegs while riding this bike because you have to lean forward at an awkward angle to grab the bars which won't be nice if you remain in that position for long. But then, you need not be in that position for long after all, you will do that occasionally. 6'8 is exceptionally tall. You need to test ride on a Himalayan with tourer seat or aftermarket raised seat installed to know if you are comfortable and if the knee angle is okay.

As with all bikes there is a extreme flaw just waiting.Fortunately it's a easy, fast and affordable fix .The Bakelite spacer between the head and intake.Overtightening. or a bump from the side during assembly can break the lip off where it goes into the head. The fix? Remove it get a 1/4 piece of aluminum to make the spacer and use a gasket on the head side against the o ring on the intake.Or just get shorter allens and do away with a Spacer. It is hard to assemble with the stock spacer as its all under pressure.Without a spacer and just a gasket it assembles easily and gets a torque gain on the low end.I assume this is because the fuel injection is now 1/4 closer to the valve. Now i still love this bike but this flaw caused me some dangerous grief. Was obviously cracked during assembly. Now since i fixed this flaw the bike has been amazingly reliable. It starts in 20 degree fahrenheit weather when my car rebels, the high output alternator has been repeatedly used to jump start my car.

Correction, 1966 XLCH ironhead Sportster, not 1966 XLCH Shovelhead. Carry on, great vid. May still buy one myself, close up in the dealers i am super impressed with h/d hubs and wheels, the motor, and value for money. Imo far better than a CRF250/300L or KLX250 if you are riding 80/20 or even 70/30. 50/50 maybe not.

Pros, it’s a proper good looking motorcycle 🏍 no hi tech, you can do most of the maintenance yourself, it’s cost cheap, most of the parts too, some after market stuff, of course will be pricey, but it’s ride is comfortable as hell, a burro, it just chugs along, and gets you there. Cons, not to many Royal Enfield dealerships if in a rural area, the 3,000 mile full injector check maintenance, compass really don’t work, temperature sensor needs to be moved away from the engine, the welds are kind of messy, and on the highway in the States, speed is right there 70, 80mph if you’re lucky and with a full load of food and camping gear. Choose your roads wisely. Anyway the Royal Enfield 650 interceptor is a kick ass bike too and a fun ride!

Yes great bike I have a 2018 one of the first 6 or so my dealer got in and I love it had some things to figure out at first but thats how it goes and I just put a Booster Plug and a Delkevic muffler on it and it livened it right up thats one thing you can do to yours and review it because the Booster Plug cleans up the throttle and makes it way smother keep up the work and again people that do reviews on a Himalayan that didnt ride it and only ride 1000 cc track bikes suck and only like one brand anyway.

Nah, man. It's the dashboard compass. 🤑 I love the low end torque. It's a two wheeled tractor. That's a great fit for my old man adventures. There's a Harley, Indian, Triumph, Royal Enfield dealer a couple of miles from my house. They had a few Royal Enfield bikes, but not the Himalayan. I looked online and there was an online raffle for the arriving 2021 Himalayan bikes and the US bikes were all taken. Needless to say, the stealerships were all getting top dollar, so I bought a new 2019 BMW G310GS for $4920 out the door, with a three year factory warranty. If I could buy a Himalayan, it would have cost more than my baby GS.

Hi Ronan, thanks for another great video! I am thinking of buying an Himalayan once I get my licence, mainly because of you and #itchyboots. One question, does the fact that the headlight does not move with the steering ever bother you in the curves? Best wishes for 2021! Koen

@RaviRJoshi

In my opinion the headlight needs to be lowered a bit from its current position, and make it movable. Else get extra lights to attach to somewhere on forks. For me that's been a dealbreaker.

Now RE needs to built a dedicated sidecar motorcycle. It could use the same engine with slight changes to the frame. All 3 tires need to be the same along with the brakes so a spare wheel can be carried on the rear of the sidecar. An electric motor on the sidecar wheel could provide a reverse option for handicap rider's. Another option could be 2 wheel drive. I've had trikes and I currently have a sidecar motorcycle. I much prefer a sidecar motorcycle over a trike including the Can-am trikes with two front wheels. Seeing around vehicles ahead of you is a problem when you are sitting in the middle of it instead of offset to the lift like you are in a car or truck.

I have a question, lately I saw a interesting video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D51ib-FtHQE.html about removing the engine, at about 15 minutes into that video I saw that the engine block at front has its own part of the frame, that is bolted onto the main frame. Wouldn't that constitute a weak spot? The main frame is not directly bolted to the front of the engine block.

Here's a fun fact: regardless of what you drive or ride your mood affects your fuel efficiency more than any other single factor. Strange but true. Mythbusters proved it years ago. Any Himalayan rider will tell you that riding their bike makes them feel happy, calm, and relaxed. So not only is the Himalayan an inexpensive bike to buy it is also cheaper to run :-) Fun fact 2: riders who are calm and aware of their surroundings have fewer accidents. I think one of the reasons people love the Himalayan is that it is a bike you can take your time on to really enjoy the ride, the road, and the scenery. It certainly is a bike that encourages you to go out and explore. You don't have to go fast to have fun. By slowing down it's amazing how much more you notice and you may be surprised by what you learn, even within a few miles of your home.
