She saw her life at a crossroads, with enjoying her youth on one side, and being tied down with a whiny brat on the other. So she orchestrates a plane crash, and shackled him (Jimmy ) to the plane, knowing it would be his demise. It crashes, of course, and she plays the role of the grieving parent for the required time, and then, when the focus is off of her she gets back to barhopping, and now she has the benefit of having the grief as an excuse for her alcoholism. Years go by and her looks fade away more and more with every sip of tequila. So now she's an old hag, poor and wilted when she sees a story about a boy raised in the jungles of Brazil making it to the finals of this Street Fighting tournament. Her teary eyes fill with dollar signs as she realizes in a moment of clarity that this is the kid she ditched so many years ago, and now he's become a success in life. So she jumps at the chance to play the heartbroken mother, so she can ride on his coat-tails to stardom.
For those curious, This was filmed not long after he attended the Streamer Awards with Max and Jae Jae. Our mans here screamed his lungs out when Max won the Legacy Award, and you can watch him lose his mind for a brief moment. Big ups to ya Kenny! And when Eddy gets released, raise some hell!
Kenny nearly out screamed/ out cheered the entire crowd. Kenny is the best kind of friend, always there for you, always honest and hype as FUCK for your achievements.
Truer words have never been spoken. I picked up on how Black characters were only African Zulus, American boxers or Big strong men type brawlers But Only The Strong was my joint
Cyrax, elena, deloras, zasalamel, sean, bruce, tanya, raven+master raven. Admittedly thats not many out of the massive amount of fighting game characters, but its a good selection
As a Brazilian and a capoeirista, I tell you, capoeira was born in Brazil, but it is a mixture of several African martial arts, capoeira is from the roots of any person of African descent, it doesn't matter the nationality. I'm also a big fan of Eddy, I even started doing capoeira because of him.
Bataque is one of them. One thing Eddy still doesn't seem to have is Esquiva (escape). He should have it similar to dodge mechanic Steve Fox has with his boxing
@@budgiecat9039 He has esquiva, but it works differently, in capoeira the esquiva is hidden in the ginga, that's why Eddy has the best sidestep in the game, this is mentioned in the video.
Lateef crowder des Santos was and still is my inspiration to start my journey in capoeira. Eddy Gordo was my first intro to seeing a representation of capoeira. But only the strong was the movie that showed me that the martial style was very tenable for a guy my size. The movie only the strong really emphasizes what I like to call the basic 13 of capoeira. Really good movie to reference for moves and execution before youtube took over.
I am the whitest of white Norwegian, but both me and my brother did the same because of eddy. Doesn't even matter that I don't share his nationality, eddy's just so damn cool
"Vambora!"= Lets do this! "Chegou a hora!" = The time is now! "Vamo lá" = Let's go! "Você não aguenta isso" = You can't handle this A couple of his lines translated, the absolute GOAT brazilian rep in videogames, massive respect to the dev team for making him look as cool Love from Brazil Kenny, you got the honorary brazilian title
At age 11 as a lil black kid in 1998 I saw eddy decided to grow dreads, train capoeira and breakdance. All 3 are still going strong to this day. this character changed the course of my life. It’s cool to see others who were affected by this character on a deep level.
As a brazilian, It's kinda fun seeing people saying "mandinga" like this, ahahaha, and yes kinda translates to sorcery in a sense. I loved Eddy gameplay. BTW, the phrase Eddy says during the buff "chegou a hora" translates to it's time in a more informal manner.
@@PirataMundoTV could this be a regional thing or would it be pronounced that way everywhere? I've done multiple martial arts, and trained capeoira years ago and our instructor, who was Brazilian, also pronounced it negativa. When I was training capoeira I bought a few books on it and one book gives a pronunciation guide for any terms that arent said how theyre written (things like role, and ginga) - but doesnt give one for negativa, which would indicate that they say it how its written? My other theory was that everyone kept saying negaTIVA and they just gave up trying to correct Westerners on that one! :D
@@Aramane "Negachiva" sounds way more natural if you're trying to master pronunciation, "negativa" is technically correct but sounds very formal and unnatural
@@AramaneIt's regional, generally Brazilians replace the T in "Te" and "Ti" for CH, while they do the same for D in "De" and "Di" for J (American J sound as in geez). If you refuse to do those changes you end up sounding Nordestino (north-eastern states). Meanwhile in Sao Paulo (South-East) where I'm from, it's the absolute majority that follow these sound changes
Hey Kenny, Not sure if anyone told you about this but around 54 mins into the Tekken talk Harada starts talking about story mode extensions for new characters being added. This could mean an Eddy chapter being added for story mode which would be sick!

Oh man, this intro was beautiful, as a argentinian who loves fighting games its always a litle sad to see that we get no representation in games, but it does make me glad that latin america does I agree whit every thing you said Kenny, feel free to do more stuff like this intro 😊. Saludos desde Argentina
28:07 Aye I peeped the new cabeçada (headbutt) animation! Fun Fact: He actually does negativa now. The move "queda de quatro" was listed as negativa in all the previous Tekken games
@@budgiecat9039 they need give my guy a tesoura or something lol. I wanted to see what his basic attacks were too like his knee, elbow strikes and maybe some palm strikes
Seeing how they completely reworked Eddy it makes more sense now why he's a DLC character and was not in the launch roster. Probably he needed more time on the cooker before he was ready.
It makes me really happy to see how much love you have for Eddy and capoeira as a whole Kenny! I'm Brazilian, been living in the US for a few years now and actually started learning capoeira here to connect a bit more with my country's culture now that I'm so far away from it. It's heartwarming to see people from other countries appreciating something from your own so much, whether it's the Tekken devs doing an amazing job with Eddy, or you losing your mind over how cool he is 😂 Definitely picking up the game once Eddy comes out, you got me even more hyped for him!
How can I not love my boy Eddy? The best representation of a Brazilian in video games (I love Jet Stream Sam's mischievous ways, but Eddy is still ahead). And Capoeira is such a beautiful and awesome fighting style, I just feel proud of my race and my country seeing this absolute beast dancing in the arena. Wonderful video Kenny, I had already watched the old one and it's always good to reaffirm how incredible this character is, and why we love him so much 🇧🇷
You ever play the PC 3D fighting game Martial Arts: Capoeira? The entire roster was Capoeiristas. Couldn't button mash in that game either 😂. Very strategic game.

I'm half Brazilian and when I played Tekken Tag Tournament as a kid and I was so happy to see an actual Brazilian character. I hated Blanka in SF personally. And I was stoked to see capoeira represented as well. I always loved watching the rodas on the streets in brazil as a kid. I took some classes myself when I was younger but sort of gave it up as I wasn't consistent going back and forth to Brazil and the US. Eddy looks so good in Tekken 8 I'm so ready
No love for Bob Wilson from Fatal Fury 3/Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 and his teacher Richard Myer from Fatal Fury 1/ KoF 2006, and Marco Rodriguez from Garou Mark of the Wolves, and Sean from Street Fighter 3? 😂

I've been a follower of your Unroolie channel for some time now, and I've always admired your passion for gaming, particularly your dedication to the Tekken series. I wanted to share my own Tekken journey with you, especially how your stories about Eddy have reshaped my perspective on the character. My Tekken journey began with Tekken 6. Initially, I found Eddy to be a character that seemed to offer easy wins without much depth, making him less appealing to me. I gravitated towards characters like Steve and King, who felt more challenging and rewarding. However, your story about how and why you fell in love with Eddy, combined with his redesigned look and play style, has completely transformed my view. For the first time, I find myself genuinely excited and intrigued by Eddy, eager to explore his nuances and potential. Your insights into Eddy's character, his backstory, his fighting style, and your personal connection to him, have opened my eyes to the depth and complexity that I had previously overlooked. It's a testament to your storytelling and your ability to share your love for these characters in a way that's both engaging and enlightening. I can't wait to get my hands on Eddy in the game and to see what new strategies and techniques you'll showcase with him. Your enthusiasm for Tekken and its characters is contagious. Thank you for sharing your experiences and for inspiring fans like me to explore new aspects of Tekken. Your channel is a fantastic resource for the community, and I look forward to your future content, especially anything related to Eddy. Keep up the great work, and know that your efforts have a meaningful impact on your viewers.
18:40 And just like that Kenny got his wish to see Eddy Gordo return to Tekken and busting out looking like a green lantern in the process as his reaction speaks for itself. Case in point right here 19:33, 21:21 (Kenny’s catch phrase 21), like he said he’s gonna have some fun playing as this character when he and the doods from yovideogames have a fun night of playing online Tekken 8.
Im whiter then the snow, and Eddie has ALWAYS been my favorite Tekken character. I love unconventional fighting styles like Drunken Boxing etc....thats the main reason Eddie always appealed to me. His style is so damn cool.
I played Eddy a lot as a kid because he would do coolest stuff when I mashed buttons haha. He’s not my favorite character in the games, but I’m happy he’s being added to the roster.
The fact Eddie is already here tells me that maybe he was planned for base roster but they ran out of time. Happy to see him in action! Bro still has a top 5 idle animation after all these years 😂
From one LIFE long martial arts and Tekken lover/fan/practitioner to another, big props, love and respect my brotha ✊🏿💯🔥 My love and training in martial arts brought me and Tekken together hardcore🥋 Can't wait to have Eddy at my finger tips P.S: I actually had a brief convo with Lateef Crowder on I.G a few years back. I commented on one of his posts about how much he inspired me as a youngster and how awesome he wS as Baraka🔥 I couldn't believe he responded. I damn near lost my shit 😅. So cool of him to just shoot the shit for a while. 💯✊🏿🥋🔥🙏🏿
Hearing Kenny's appreciation for the significance and diversity of old martial arts is awesome, even more so that he finally found that one character in Eddy. So many folks in the FGC have that one character we all love and hearing Kenny sing praises upon praises to characters/martial arts shows how much we all love and appreciate the characters in fighting games. Great Work!
@unrooolie thank you so much for putting this video together! I really felt the passion in your words. I’ve been doing Capoeira for almost 3 decades now. At 19 I trained under Mestre Marcelo Pereira, who was the actual motion, cap actor for Eddy Gordo. I love your channel. I love your energy I love the camaraderie of the Yo! video games crew. I’m very very much looking forward to see how capoeira is represented with this new motion capture actor. Super exciting. Asé brother.
Eddy redemption arc, let's go! He WILL find Kazuya this time and he WILL have justice with the new Story Mode updates coming down the pipeline. No stupid Chloe getting in the way.
So cool to see this. Lateef’s a buddy of mine. Knew him since before all the fame. Surprised you didn’t mention anything about Lateef playing Eddy in the Tekken movie! And he’s also the martial artist stunt guy playing The Mandalorian! He’s such a down to earth guy.
I've never seen Only The Strong, my first introduction to capoeira was in my martial arts school. I studied a Korean martial art called Tang Soo Do kinda like Korean karate but my teachers would often bring teachers from other styles to teach us that there was MANY ways to skin a cat. I was hooked. From there, I would see people practicing in Union Square in NYC and I would join in and try to learn for a few minutes between classes during college. I had a similar experience with Wing Chun learning some in Tang Soo Do then messing Sifus thru the years. Over the years I've found that so many people love the movie. I think I'll check it out sometime this week.
Tang Soo Do was created by a Korean (Wong Kuk Lee) who went to Chou University in Japan because he came from a wealthy family in Korea which at the time, when Japan occupied Korea, they banned martial arts so he wanted to learn martial arts in Japan so he went to college there and next door was a gym that Shotokan Karate founder Gichin Funikoshi taught. So he trained with him for 20 years and then moved back to Korea once the war was over and with a few other Korean martial artists, one who also bypassed the martial arts ban by training in China, created Tang Soo So, which means 'Way of Chinese (Tang Dynasty) Hand" as an homage to his teacher Gichin who was originally born Okinawa and known as the founder of modern Karate; being the one who made up the term "karate" which means "empty hand" because the Japanese Olympic Judo rep was sent to Okinawa to scout out martial artists to bring over to Japan to teach and Gichin Funikoshi was one of them, along with Chojin Miyagi who founded Goku Ryu karate. But in Okinawa, it was called Tou De, which means "Chinese Hand", as their intentions was to make Karate an Olympic sport like Judo was. China had good business relationships with Okinawa back in the day so for public relations they'd send goodwill ambassadors like scholars and martial artists to teach Okinawan royalty and wealthy families and eventually it became part of their culture but there were no real "styles* back then they just called it Tou De. This is why Gichin changed the name to karate in Japan because "Chinese Hand" wouldn't sell as well due to tensions between China and Japan at the time. So Wong Kuk Lee knew the origin and thus used Tang Soo Do as the homage. Korea wanted to make an Olympic martial art as well so they asked Wong Kuk Lee to incorporate Tang Soo Do into a sport but he refused saying he didn't want it watered down and they arrested him on suspicion of being a Japanese loyalist spy 😂 But he eventually got released and moved to Virginia. In the meantime, Tae Kwon Do was created in 1955 which did become an Olympic sport. Then Chuck Norris learned Tang Soo Do in the military and used it in competitions and owns his own schools and one of his students, Pat Johnson, was the fight choreographer for the Karate Kid and played as the referee. Tang Soo Do was also used as the style for "Cobra Kai" in the movie and "Mr Miyagi" was created as an homage to Chojin Miyagi of Goju-Ryu ("hard-soft style") Karate since one of his students moved to NY and ended up being the teacher to the writer of the Karate Kid, Robert Mark Kamen when he was a teen in the 60's after he got bullied, so the Karate Kid is loosely based on Robert's backstory.
With Eddy leading the charge for future returning DLC characters from the entire span of the franchise, I'm super excited for the future of T8. And as for the Eddy fans, including you Kenny, your Spring is gonna be lit sf. You guys are feasting good!
I loved tekken for the same reason, yeah devils with lasers and robots fighting bears isn't realistic but alot of the moves that the martial arts practitioners are using felt substantially more connected to the media i loved martial arts movies. Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Tony Jaa, Lateef Crowder, Donnie Yen and many more - you see reflections of those movies in the Tekken characters. I was also a fan of wrestling and just watching King slam someone with a tombstone piledriver or giant swing, or seeing Armor King nail someone with the stone cold stunner or Booker T's scissor kick was just amazing. Will never forget the time I got to meet Kenny at evo and shared our disappointment that they made Eddy, Lucky Chloe's background dancer. Because they took one of our icons of our martial arts interest and made him hokey for the sake of comedy, but they'd been sliding eddy to the side for years - Tekken 7 was just the latest slap in the face. Here's hoping they return eddy to form.
Eddy was one of my favs because of his constant movement and different fighting style compared to the other characters. He used kicks so much in his arsenal that even when being in the standard standing position people would think a kick was coming because they would always focus on his legs and feet which are in constant motion. Extremely underrated character. You realize the potential of getting people thrown off by his irregular movement compared to everyone else and you will win almost any match once you learn the opponents habits.
Dude, first time I saw you in one of Max's videos I instantly looked at you and though: "lol, that guy looks like Eddy" and then with time I learned that you actually love the character. I loved that fact that you love the character that fights Capoeira and is inspired in the country I was born. Learning that your mother have roots around here is awesome. Come to Brazil so we can play some rounds! :D
Eddy is such a badass perfect character, got me obsessed with capoeira and it's roots and Brazilian culture. This video beautifully encapsulates everything.
As a Brazilian and a capoerist, I am deeply proud to be representing it and it increases my joy even more to see that people outside the capoeira universe know what techniques such as the bananeira and the negativa are called
As a brazilian the reason I love Eddy is because he is a badass, while the art of capoeira is usually depicted as a fun dance in games the real thing is dark and brutal. It is a dance, and a martial art. It was fighting trainning disguised as dance. See some funny girl doing capoeira looks like a lesser version of what really is. Like the real masters you see in the north of brazil are like this gigantic bulky black guy that could easilly take your head of with a kick. They look cool as heck. When I see funny girl doing fun capoeira dance is not wrong in a way but is not what a cool martial art with some dark origin should be. And Eddy is that depiction. He is what a capoeira fighter should be.
Man… It was great hearing you talk about your connection to Eddy and what his presentation to the world means to you. You’re spitting facts… So many characters in martial arts movies and fighting games had rich stories, multi layered personalities. Black and Latin characters were so limited to Boxer, Thug, or on the other extreme, easy going fun guy/party guy; and neither end was given any depth beyond that. It stinks of the narrow understanding of Black and Latin people worldwide defined by Europe and America in general and their entertainment industries more specifically, which has been internalized around the world. Eddy (and the dev team) didn’t accept ANY of that mess. He had a cool, fun-looking style, sure, but the character didn’t have his angst sanded down to make him palatable. He was angry, but for specific and relatable reasons, not for a poorly defined hated for ”the man”. He is a believable character, and not a caricature. I will say, they did him SUPER dirty in T7, so I’m hoping he (and we) get some justice here!
I discovered Capoeira back in 1993 when my Aunt (RIP) took me to the movies, and we saw Only The Strong. I was like WOOOOOOOOW. I started to learn how to do front flips because of that movie. When I played Tekken 3 when it was released I was so freaking happy because we got Eddie. Going to watch Only the Strong with my kids this weekend 😊 Have a great day guys.
I really get Kenny’s hype and explanation in the beginning. Idk if it a FGC thing but i feel like theres one character that kinda makes a impact on a player. I would say Dudley was that character for me, a energetic fighter that used boxing kinda helped influence the characters I used until i shifted to grapplers with games like Virtua Fighter and Tekken. I hope for the day we get a Puerto Rican fighter in Tekken, since i believe Tekken would give the character a proper representation from what they’ve shown with Eddie. And if that day comes id probably celebrate like its new year since that would be a awesome thing to see (Doesn’t even need to have Guazabara fighting style although that would be pretty sick seeing that brought to life in a game, Victor and Yoshimitsu use weapons so hey, imagine a modern day Guazabara)
I didn’t know Kenny is Brazilian/Venezuelan thats so cool. I can sense your passion for this character and the cultural and martial arts background. In tekken 3 i used to pick him first before anyone else with the street gear and his shades. I was intrigued because of the breakdancing fighting style because i was into breakdancing back in the day. Imma watch more Kenny videos now
I remember when Eddy was first introduced and I had heard his name was originally “Bryan Fury” just as Steve Fox’s name was originally “Dean Earwicker” in T4.
@@lazulimusics Acho que isso ocorre pq eles estão pelos menos uns 20 anos trabalhando com o Mestre Caveirinha né acho que de tanto conversar com ele, eles pegam fácil a pronuncia certa.
I know the feeling. It was King made me learn Tekken during my high school days. Then later on tekken 3 it’s not all grabs and i got hooked with the game. It’s too bad my Tekken game ended in TT2 cause of life. But i still enjoyed watching people play tekken in youtube. ❤❤❤ low key whenever i see a king player gets top 3 in evo like lilmajin. I flipped! Since my first character i learned is King.
It's good to see Eddie back. I think after Harada saw Kenny's reaction to Eddie's story in Tekken 7, he was like, "Guys, we gotta do Eddie justice in Tekken 8." Can't wait to see all of the Killmonger looks online.
I'm surprised and honored to hear all the Japanese people involved in this presentation have a flawless portuguese pronunciation when talking about Eddy's moves
