Why do Women Veil at Mass? 

I went to attend Traditional mass today , with my veil , and rosary, Its solemn and receiving holy communion kneeling down and in the tongue , i just love the holiness of it all !

I have started veiling a year and a half ago and i always wear a dress to mass. At first i get conscious because i was the only one who would hear mass wearing a veil but now it doesnt bother me anymore coz am focused to please and respect the Lord in His house

Since I Went To Latin Mass, it Changed My Life.

I'm the youngest at the age of 45 at my local church. The only other two women that veil are over 80+... it was when I returned to faith (almost 3 yrs ago, after a 20+ yr lapse) I kept hearing my Grandmother (that passed away in 1984) saying "where's my veil? Cover your head" every time I prayed... I have been ever since. She was a devout follower of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. God love her.

We are also present in front of the ultimate Divine Bridegroom, and we Women have the honor and privilege to veil in front of The Divine Bridegroom. Just like a bride veils for her bridegroom on her wedding day. Beautiful devotion and Christ Blessed Veronica's veil during his passion.

I'm a convert and prefer to not cover my head but I clearly heard the Lord tell me in Church while praying before the Blessed Sacrament to cover my head, so I do. Sometimes I'm embarrassed but I obey. Not many women follow this practice, though. I appreciate this video. Thank you Dr Marshall, you're the BEST.

I was raised in your typical Novus Ordo church. I thought it was the norm. I realize now that the reverence was missing & I long for it. The Mass needs to go back to bring Latin & the awe restored.

I have wonder this for years… and only recently did see several female students, attending the college campus mass, wearing head coverings. It was a practice that I was never privy to but was always in awe of the women who did. Thank you for your guidance and explanation. I will share with my family and friends.

We've lost touch with what's important. We think it's all about us, when in fact it's all about Jesus. Vatican II did this.

Since I've been going to my little church, I've always worn my veil. I'm usually the only one that veils but I'm fine with it.

I always wondered why we stopped wearing a veil. It just happened all of a sudden. I was young and just went along with it. I wear one now, I feel closer to my Lord wearing one.

Not to mention, the 90,000 nuns that left their vocation shortly after V2.

Even if I assist the novus ordo mass, I wear my veil. Thank you for reminding us on how to assist in the holy mass.❤❤❤

I miss the "Holiness" of the alter, Eucharist and blessings. I miss the rail and seeing people trapping across the alter without respect or acknowledgment of God-Jesus drives me crazy. I loved kneeling for the final blessing from God through our priest and will start doing it again.

When I was first coming into the Church, I would not deign to set foot on the dais to the altar. That was "holy ground" so far as I was concerned, and I had no business being there. In similar fashion, during the consecration when the priest elevated the host, I would lower my head... my eyes were unworthy to behold such a thing. The point is, when we consider that which is altogether sacred as common, we lose that sense of the holy, the mysterious, the "otherness" of God.

I remember back in the 60s and part of the 70s when Nuns wore habits and were Conservative in their thinking. Nowadays, the habits are gone in most Orders only to be replaced by $3.50 Men's haircuts, Moore cigarillos and radical Maxist- Feminist thinking. Some are confused and even think they're part Buddhists. Strange days indeed...most peculiar Sisters..

In England we do all that but very hard to find a Latin mass, only in Westminster Cathedral as far as I know. ✝️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

My grandmother was catholic and my great aunts were nuns. I wish i could remember more from when i went to church with my mammaw. She never missed church. Greatest lady i ever knew. She taught me to honor love and respect Mother Mary, bc she is the mother of Jesus.

The tabernacle has always been veiled in our church. And all the churches I have been to. I’ve never been to a church that celebrates the 1962 edition of the Mass

I grew up in a household where my both grandmother and mother were wearing veils while attending the church. They didn’t requested from us girls wearing any veils . Also lost appreciation for the Sacred in general. Making the Sacred "accessible,", not special and eventually mundane/ordinary. It would be much better if we call our brothers and sisters who left the church and got lost in life and bring them back. That what we need to consider.

Why do women veil? To show upmost respect for God. I wear my veil at Novus Ordo Masses and TLM Masses. I don't care what people think. I only care what GOD thinks.

There was a lack of reverence pre Vatican 2 also. People would pray the rosary during mass. The consecration was so long that communion was given by a second priest. That was probably the start of people leaving right after taking communion.The celebrants often mumbled and raced their way through the consecration too.

I think St Paul said women should hold thier tongues while in Church. We can thank women for the YES vote for same sex marriage in Australia.

I suspect the lack of the reverence is part of the problem differentiating from modern society.

You took that verse out of context: that is why God gave women their hair, as their glory, as their covering! And unlike the Jewish men who cover their heads, men are to keep their heads uncovered when in Church. 1 Cor 11:4, 13-16 4 Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered, disgraceth his head. 13 You yourselves judge: doth it become a woman, to pray unto God uncovered? 14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that a man indeed, if he nourish his hair, it is a shame unto him? 15 But if a woman nourish her hair, it is a glory to her; *for her hair is given to her for a covering.* 16 But if any man seem to be contentious, *we have no such custom, nor the church of God.* Amen

Latin is still used with Novus Ordo sometimes.

My grandparents were first to teach me about Jesus in a little Methodist Church on the railroad tracks in a town of 500 My grandmother mother was organist my auntie was pianist and I simply loved being there praying and signing those old gospel hymns I have no idea why I am sharing this with you and your viewers other than to say I enjoy your discussions as I continue my journey with Christ As a rule I lead with my heart but am cerebral introvert as well. The veil on the tabernacle is because the Holy of Holies where God’s presence appeared in the Temple both in the wilderness and in the one built in Jerusalem had a veil curtaining it off from public view as it was the Holy Place. Nuns took off their own veils in spite of being told to continue to wear the signs of their consecration. Pope John Paul II reaffirmed this in a letter to all religious in 1990 but they disobeyed. The altar rails were taken down and, being upset about this at the time, I read through all the Vat Two documents and NOWHERE DOES IT SAY TO REMOVE THEM. I still disagree because the elderly (like myself) want to kneel for Holy Communion and cannot because one cannot get up without the help of that rail. Some priests are putting a “Prie-dieu either directly in front of them or one either side of them to facilitate kneeling for those who wish. . The origin of the altar rail was to stop the chickens and other small farm animals from going on the altar as not having money people gave livestock and fruit to keep the priest in food as an offering. When money became commonplace the Host was made in the shape of coins instead of pieces of unleavened bread. The loss of reverence today is the most painful thing and one can blame the priests for not having the guts to tell the people to be quiet as this is a House of God and not a chat-room - especially when today people have so many gadgets to chat at anytime at all from home or anywhere - even on the street or in a bus. Pope John Paul II requested that ten minutes silence be observed after every Mass. Many places in Poland still observe this: everyone else ignored it.

i believe women would wear veils if men had to also have some outward sign of devotion. i do not wear a veil, but I can see where it would be useful in the modern box churches to give one some privacy in prayer.

There is however no obligation to veil for women, but they should still dress modestly of course!

That's not what Paul meant in 1 Cor. It was more towards the culture of the time period. Corinth was home to the temple to the goddess of sex. At night 1000 priestesses would go out from the temple and prostitute. Paul's message was to the women of the time, that it would be a good idea to follow other TRADITIONAL veiling practices of several religions to separate themselves from the whoring public. Context is key. This is even more clear once we understand Paul's revelation from the risen Lord that we are all "saved by faith alone, and not of works, lest anyone should boast". Paul, contrarily, was much again tradition and religion.
