Caffeine by itself doesn't seem to make me poop. A cup of coffee does make me poop. I tested this with coffee one day, and mountain dew the next for a few days just to see how it differed, no other dietary changes and caffeine amounts approximately the same. Only the coffee made me poop, so I'm convinced it's not the caffeine that is the primary driver of the coffee poops, but the other constituents from the coffee beans. At least for me, that is.
I came from their website where this video came from. You’re right. This is what they said: But as we mentioned, decaf coffee also can help move things along due to those acids. “Decaf is not as potent as its caffeinated counterpart, but it too has a laxative effect,” notes Dr. Lee. So, it’s not just caffeine that brings on a #2. Instead, it’s how the stimulant works with coffee’s natural acids to speed things along. (That also explains why caffeine-laced energy drinks don’t make people poop.)
At 2:57 she says, on the components of coffee, one of them in particular stimulates a hormone called gastrin to be released from the stomach lining. The word she said sounded like "cofura" but I can't seem to catch it. Can anyone let me know what word she was saying?
Thank you for making this very educational video. I have started daily coffee recently and wonder why my bowel movement becomes regular. Now I know why🙂
