Greg Morse of Desiring God Ministries published on August 9, 2023 a blog titled "Almost Saved: Four Reasons to Examine Yourself". Greg Morse describes a picture of the Almost Christian by describing 4 signs of the Almost Christian. Bob Wilkin of the Grace Evangelical Society examines these 4 signs of the Almost Christian, and provides the biblical good news of how one can be assured of one's salvation, by believing in Jesus' promise of everlasting life to all who believe in Him for everlasting life.

When God said don’t eat from this tree or you will surely die, we didn’t believe Him. Now God says believe on my son and you will surely live, let’s not doubt Him again..

To truly believe means to obey. John 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36IF the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:47,51 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God. ”51Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.” The true gospel will offend and generate hostility, because it's the truth to those that are under such pervasive deception.

This is exactly why I have come to detest and abhor this doctrine. Greg Morse wants you to “examine yourself” but then turns right around in his article and tells you that even if you do have these “works” evident in your life that you still can’t be sure if you’re saved. So why examine ourselves to begin with then? I still don’t get why people want to sit under that type of teaching. All this type of teaching produced in my life was fear, uncertainty, depression, hopelessness, anxiety etc. So if that’s what it produces in people how can we say it’s from God? I thought God is the God of All Hope, and the God of joy and peace. Just something for everyone to consider. God bless you all and thank you GES for your contributions.

Perhaps he should have worded it something like this; Can people see since the moment of your conversion that God is working in your life to make you Holy? Philippians 2:13 For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Can you see that? When you look at the world and maybe it decieves you,and draws you to it,that God comes and disciplines you? When you participate in sin you can't stand it because the Holy Spirit is so convicting you. Or can you call yourself Christian and still look like the world, act like the world, talk like the world, dress like the world,do everything that the world does? 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world-the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world. 17And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. He's going to little by little remove from you, your desire and fellowship with the world, and the lust thereof and He's going to replace that with a desire and a fellowship with Christ. Philippians 2:12-15 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 14Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 That you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. Since your supposed conversion are you growing in your devotion to God,and your love for Christ? Are you growing in Holiness, striving for Holiness or are you the same person that you were when you began? 1 Peter1:14-17 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15but as he who has called you holy also be holy in all your conduct, 16since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 17And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile Do you still love the world? James 4:4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. John 14:15 IF you love me, you will keep my commandments.

@@frankw.1721 John 10:1-5,14,26-27 Truly truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way that man is a thief and a robber. 2But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they "know" his voice. 5A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not "know" the voice of strangers.14 Iam the good shepherd. I "know" my own and my own "know" me 26but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27My sheep hear my voice, and I "know" them, and they follow me. Only those who have a changed life by repentance, and striving for Holiness are those who are Jesus's sheep and follow him. Jesus uses the word "knows" as in an intimate way just like that word is used throughout scripture. Matt 7:21-23 Why does Jesus say depart from me I never "knew" you ye that work iniquity. He's not double minded The works mentioned are works that He told us to do Matt 10:28 John14:12 Mark 16:15-17. Jesus and Paul: Acts 26:18-20 To open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and and inheritance among those who are sanctified by Faith in me. Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should REPENT AND TURN TO GOD and do works befitting repentance. Clearly they claimed they believed in God to do those works He doesn't say you trusted in your works He doesn't say I knew you once and you later rejected me. He says I never "knew" you (in scripture "knew" means intimately) They never changed their minds about their sinfulled life (repented)Of their sins as Jesus the disciples and Paul all preached They didn't have a personal relationship with Him. They were pointing to their works as evidence they knew Him. They believed repentance is works God didn't know them because they hadn't been regenerated, forgiven of their sins and died in their iniquity. Titus 1:16 They profess that they "know" God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good works reprobate. Jesus wouldn't refer to what He commanded us to do as iniquity or lawlessness Note: They didn't say I repented of my sins which is the first requirement for salvation. What is the will of the Father? The Greek word that is translated as “does” is poieo. The word appears 598 times in the New Testament. It has been demonstrated that the Greek word for “does” refers to action that performs an activity. This word is a verb and not a noun.Since poieo is a verb, we must also determine the meaning of its tense, voice and mood. The tense of poieo in Matthew 7:21 is in the present tense.Poieo in the present tense refers to action that is ongoing. For example, when Jesus said, “he who does the will” He was referring to ongoing action at that moment in time. In other words he who is doing the Father's will. The Greek word for “does” is a Greek present participle which implies ongoing behavior. The person who does the will of God once in a while does not qualify.Jesus is describing someone who habitually does the will of the Father. Poieo is also in the active voice, which means that when Jesus said, “.he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter” Jesus was saying that the individual must be performing the action. A life of obedience (present tense “do” [Ποιωv] for continuous action) to his will is, in fact, the definition of righteousness. when Jesus says “. . . but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.” The word “does” is a present, active, participle verb which means that those who continuously are doing the will of the Father go to heaven. Jesus was referring to a pattern of life and not perfect obedience. The character of true Christians is that they sin less and less as they mature in their faith. 1 John 2:17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the WILL of God lives forever.

Luke13:23-28 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. The gate is narrow because the process is hard, and the perspective we need to see the entrance to the narrow gate comes only through the Savior, Christ Jesus. We don’t do it on our own but operate by the power of Christ, in us, so God receives all the glory. The goal of the narrow gate starts with repentance followed by obedience to live a life that glorifies God. It may seem counterproductive to fight through the narrow gate of persecution and hardship by resting in Jesus. His burden is light, He promises. Putting it down all that entangles us is difficult! However, the possibility of missing our chance at eternity is extremely plausible if we clutch onto sinfull desires, lusts and pursuits of the world the wide gate.Destruction means a loss that produces utter ruin, perishing and here refers to loss of eternal life with God.

Calvinists quoting Calvinists. Look at the sorrow and doubt in John Newton's poem. Do you truly believe if you must constantly seek assurance? What is that you believe if you are never sure? They believe in Jesus but doubt God's promise and character, and for good reason knowing what they believe and misunderstanding election and predestination. We all have doubt sometimes, but my heart breaks for those deceived by the doctrines of Calvinism, who never truly know that they are saved, not for what they do, but for what He did. They go about spreading their doubt, snared by the devil to do his work, deceiving others because they first were deceived. So sad.

How Desiring God Ministries has any sort of following in endorsing the contents of that book beats me. That is not the Gospel and it sure ain't good news. Salvation is by believing wholly and solely on the person and substitutionary work of the Lord Jesus not ticking off a box list of 'signs' one may subjectively think they have as evidences in their life. It is the Lord's clear will that those who belong to Him know they have eternal life (1 John 5:13). When God is taken at His Word and the Finished Work of His Son rested upon, this is what the Holy Spirit bears witness to in granting the believer assurance. Doubt is not good for the believer nor a healthy sign. It produces spiritual paralysis and everything carried out in such a state is sin as it is not done in faith and for that there will be no reward at the Bema seat. What I have noticed in these sorts of ministries trying to separate wheat from the chaff or weeding out false converts is that they create despair for those who most likely are saved but have neurotic o.c.d. bents and given to introspection. Any backloading of the Gospel soon gives rise to a frontloading which will save no one and we have John Piper saying that 'believing is not enough'. According to my Bible it is. Spiritual poison to be avoided and the irony is that a lot of these Lordship salvationists will prove to be false converts themselves. (Matt 7:21-23) because they did not put their faith in Christ alone. Their appeals to what they thought were wonderful works, exercising spiritual gifts, keeping the law or rather their watered down neonomian version of it will avail them nothing. The same law will judge and condemn them as workers of lawlessness who never knew the Saviour.

Perhaps a skewered understanding of election has deeper ramifications for the 'chosen' than I thought. Faith, to some, is never a choice and not even a response to the evidence God amply provides in creation, conscience, the Bible and even the Father's drawing by the Holy Spirit. They are not really saying 'Am I really saved?' - they are saying 'Can I really trust John Calvin was absolutely correct?'. This is then projected onto you. If ever I put my trust in my works for salvation - even those good works God prepared in advance for me to do - then my assurance of salvation is no longer solid. At best I'll be as one being saved through the flames. These men need to get out of the way of God and repent of their trying to control Him. Their doublespeak is far more noisy to me than the many volumes of words they produce in print by their undoubtedly vast intellects.

Sin can and often does result in physical harm....i have experienced this, also sin can result in severe addictions, even physical death. We can refer to this as Gods temporal judgment in this life. It can include also broken fellowship with the Lord, loss of His peace, joy and being given over to guilt and shame, isolation. Our wrong deeds also has future consequences for christians as it can affect the degree of our eternal experience in His Kingdom . Our status, role, responsibilities ect

Not by our works, or our faith which can fail or our love for Christ which can waiver or our commitment to following and serving Christ for they can fall short. We can count on the promises that Jesus made that whoever believes in Him has eternal life and will never perish. Jesus does not lie. He is reliable. Jesus on the sermon mount warns that many people who profess to be Christians are deceived about their eternal salvation, Matt 7:21-23. A person must examine themselves carefully and only when done he can eat the bread and drink the cup. 1 Cor 11:28. Paul says examine yourself to see if you are in the faith, test yourselves, do you not know that Jesus Christ is in you unless you fail the test. Examine yourself is a command, with so many Christians being deceived it is too important not to continually evaluate yourself.

Greetings brother in Christ 🙏..First I ask you, who is Jesus audience on the sermon on the mount? Well u say it's Christians.. when the Contextual truth is it's Jews still living under the old covenant law. The same Law Jesus was born under, and living too, see Galatians 4:4-5. That's why he said sum harsh teachings in the earlier part of the sermon. He was showing the Jewish crowd they desperately needed something different.. Forward to Matt 7:21-23 , those verses don't refer to people who performed works only a saved person could do and then lost their Salvation. The verses are refering to those whom Christ never knew . They were counterfeit believers, not real ones. A profession of Jesus as Lord will not guarantee entrance into the kingdom itself. Those Jews listening who still cling to their pharisaical righteousness but profess Christ will not make it. Only those "who do the will of the father" will "enter the Kingdom of heaven'.. In 1 Corinthians 11 the subject , Contextual issue at hand is the believers actions at the "Lords Supper".. That each member should examine (test ,approve) themselves before eating the Bread, drinking the Cup. The one who takes part in the lords supper without proper self examination does not make a distinction between the Lords Supper and an ordinary meal .Because of this abuse, which reflected a selfish carnality, many are weak and sick amongst them, incl death. (1 Corinthians 15;18/ 1 Thess 4:15-16) . Those believers Who are judged by God, are chastened by the Lord. It's a temporal judgement, not eternal. As Gods discipline of his children is remedial (1 Corinthians 5;3-5) . The individual who is not chastened is identified with the eternally condemned unsaved world ((Heb 12;5-11/ Rev; 20 :12-15...GOD BLESS 🙏

What is "the will of My Father” in Matthew 7:21? "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." In John 6:40, Jesus says, "And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” Did those in Matthew 7 who cannot enter the kingdom believe in Jesus for eternal life (doing the will of the Father)? Their belief was superficial and devoid of repentance resulting in a new creation in Christ. John 6:40 is not applicable to what Jesus is saying here. Will of the Father, God wants you saved,He wants you Spirit controlled, and He wants you separated from sin. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 It is God’s WILL that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; 6and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. 7For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you. John sums it up. 1 John 2:17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the WILL of God lives forever.

It's ur perfect answer to rebuke those who disagree with you Mr.. Jesus said many different things to many different people's,fr many different reasons, so one has to put those conversations in perspective, into biblical context Mr. Fr example at one stage he told apostles not to go to gentiles or samaritans, But to you he is lying, as he said go to all people's..That's why we need context Mr, your reply is seriously atrocious flawed HermenuatIcs..Mr What u said is also pure pretext..(a text without context is what you want it to say!..But sincere, humble faith in GOD respects the meaning of a biblical passage in its context Mr) What you said is also called eisegesis,Eisegesis brings meaning to the text, and does not concern itself with the original historical context of a biblical passage.Eisegesis is concerned only with making a point, even at the expense of the meaning of words.. Second Timothy 2:15 commands us to use exegetical methods: “Present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” An honest student of the Bible will be an exegete, allowing the text to speak for itself. Eisegesis easily lends itself to error, as the would-be interpreter attempts to align the text with his own preconceived notions. Exegesis allows us to agree with the Bible; eisegesis seeks to force the Bible to agree with us. The process of exegesis involves 1) observation: what does the passage say? 2) interpretation: what does the passage mean? 3) correlation: how does the passage relate to the rest of the Bible? and 4) application: how should this passage affect my life? Your eisegesis, on the other hand, involves 1) imagination: what idea do I want to present? 2) exploration: what Scripture passage seems to fit with my idea? and 3) application: what does my idea mean? In future If I want to correct people, do so correctly, the biblical GODSword way, and use 2 Timothy 3;16 , and do not do so by pretext, nor by using eisegesis..But do so by using biblical contextual Hermeneutics, via Exegesis Me.You saying people are wrong, does not make you right, you have to prove it HermenuatIcally,in context, not pretext waffle..Thank you. that is nonsense---because when one believes the Gospel (John 3:16; Acts 16:31 etc.) one is born from above, sealed with the Holy Spirit. One receives the entire package (the free gift) of salvation/eternal life. When one believes, trusts in Christ, one receives His righteousness; and one is declared Justified, not guilty. Jesus took all sins away---past, present, future. Tetelestai. From that moment (the moment one believes) forward, God the Father, via God the Son, also sees one as already Sanctified (positionally) and already Glorified (positionally). None of this can be undone, ever. If it could, then God would be made a liar. But since God cannot lie, one can be sure one's eternal life, salvation, never can be lost. God does not take back His Free Gift...no matter what. However, if a believer persists in sinning, yielding to the old nature, the believer risks being disciplined in this life and/or losing reward(s) in the next. Please understand---that the moment a person believes he or she is born from above and receives a new nature...but...the old sin nature remains. And every believer still sins because every believer is still a sinner...the old adamic nature is still there. And just ONE sin is enough to send a person to Hell---but, IN CHRIST, all sins, again, all past, present, and future sins are forgiven, are gone. THIS is GRACE. THIS is the GIFT as per Eph. 2:8-9. Lordship Salvation does not offer the gift, the free gift. LS will take one to the Matthew 7:21-23 judgement.

@frankw.1721 Neither John 3:16 nor Acts 16:31 alone are scriptures for salvation. John 3:16 doesn’t say anything about repentance or about forgiveness of sins. Without repentance sins are not forgiven. Luke 24:47 Acts 2:38 Acts 3:19 Acts 11:18 Acts 22:16 Acts 26:18-20 2 Corinthians 7:9-10. Acts 16:31 must be kept in context. Acts 16:32-33 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. We can definitely know what they were telling the jailer about the Lord, Paul was saying that along with believing that he must repent of sin. How do we know that? By reading verse 33And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; AND WAS BAPTIZED, he and all his, straightway. No one was water baptized to affirm the death of the old man and the Spiritual birth of the new man until they repented of sin. Paul too was water baptized. Acts 9:18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized. Paul also said in Acts 17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance but now COMMANDETH ALL PEOPLE EVERY WHERE TO REPENT Acts 20:21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they MUST TURN TO GOD IN REPENTANCE AND HAVE FAITH in our Lord Jesus Christ. Then you believe in your Self . Saving faith doesn't come "with the kitchen sink" , front loaded with all manner of good works till death . Rather , it's only as valid as the Object in which it's placed : His Person & Promise . The book of John remains the ultimate clarifier of this Person/Promise as the Giver of the Gift : "Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:10-14) . Not to be persuaded of this passage is tantamount to unbelief in Him . There's not a non quantifiable level of emotion , or act of the will , or a requisite ginning up of some sort of "trust or reliance" mentioned as a co condition . Nor anything we do to "seal the deal". It's not a performance contract that only pays when we hit the finish line . Rather , by childlike faith (intellectual assent) - devoid of unknowable co-conditions - we enter the endless Kingdom in the freest of all avenues : "... therefore it is by faith that it might be according to grace that the Promise would be certain" (Romans 4:16) .

For the blessing our Lord is speaking of, is when we are found in faith of Him. As we can see, Paul makes the case to continue in the faith till the end for the promise to be fulfilled. ONLY FAITH in Him, until the end and not of works. The scripture is replete from beginning until the end to remain in FAITH of HIM (by His power 1Peter 1:3-5 KJV) in order to inherit the promise. So if a person believes in Jesus and never lifts a finger, they are eternally saved. 10 For we are his workmanship, *created in Christ Jesus* unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. You have to be saved in Christ. When does God put you in Christ? John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 *But as many as received him,* to them gave he power to become the sons of God, *even to them that believe on his name:* 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Who wills you to be born? God wills you to be born. It is not by the will of man. He tells us how in the same chapter. John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That *whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.* 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ephesians 1:1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful *in Christ Jesus:* 2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us *in him* before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have *redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,* according to the riches of his grace; When does God put us IN CHRIST? 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, *after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed,* ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
