Why Does my Light Switch Have a Loop Terminal

This Schneider Electric switch has an extra terminal labelled loop. This loop terminalis not connected to any other part of the switch so is effectively a point to connect conductors together. In this video we see how it could be used to join the neutrals together if you take the feed to the switch.

It's just there to help join 2 Neutral wires together without the need for a terminal block.

Glad I’ve seen this, I’m doing my 2365 installation at college and all they have are these switches plus intermediates. Took me a while to work this switch out😅

They should insert a common terminal connection into a intermediate switch for the black common wire.

If it was me I would ignore that loop terminal and join the wires in a separate connector. If the switch is ever changed by a DIYer the less wires going to the back of the switch the better

I would terminate the light switch then re-test. A TNCS system might prove otherwise

It can do for a number of reasons. .

I,ve never seen a loop terminal in a switch but an example of it's used is you may want to put a lampost type fittiñg outside your front door. If you have pulled a neutral into your switch you only need to run one twin and earth cable to your lampost from the switch.@@spudhead169

Typical solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. With the advent of waggo connectors or similar, connect the neutrals in the back of the box out of the way
