I don’t want to be the ‘umm actually’ guy, but they do somewhat make use of power armour, though a heavily modified and divergent form of it. The Mechanicus (or Mechanicum more accurately) utilised a type of cyborg troop called Thallax and Ursarax. A weird mix of power armour and a dreadnought, Skitarii and other Mechanicus troops have their vital organs and nervous system implanted into a power armour frame that supports their vitals whilst providing them with a highly mobile and well armoured platform. These were made extensive use of by Mechanicum Taghmata forces during the heresy. But… again as I said they are from 30k, and have had little to no mention in modern 40K lore - though I wouldn’t be surprised if some forgeworld made use of them, considering they are cyborgs rather than automata or some form of AI.
one little correction, its not that ceramite doesn't conduct heat, if that were the case a lasgun would punch right though it, rather it conducts heat extraordinarily well and disperses the energy.
Power armor only make sense for particularly skilled specialists, which space marines are. The adeptus mechanicus is flush with precise and overwhelming firepower, they did make it all so it makes sense they have the best stuff in general. With how powerful their guns can be, power armor may not be useful because it's just not worth the cost. Your better of with cyborgs having those biomechanical muscles as core parts of the body rather than seperate parts of a power armor system.
Main function of a powerarmor is to save the life of its wearer. If the trooper is repairable or disposable the powerarmor is a waste. Admech troops are mostly in the repairable cathegory.
@@hardlyheroic114 Brother. I cannot tell you how often I think about Fallout Armor in 40k. The Guard would absolutely kill for T-51b. A Cheap, easy to mass produce, reliable power armor. I get that in the video you talked about the economy of 40k and how they may now have use for PA in general. Although I think a cheap and effective version like the T-45 or T-51 could be deployed by Special or Elite Units.
@@boomsticknation4306 I think it's an interesting question. I certainly want to make a video about fallout power armour. It has an amazing aesthetic, one I think would fit into 40k in many respects. I feel like maybe if the Solar Auxilia hadn't disbanded, they would have eventually been equipped in power armour.
Another point is that the Mechanicus fighters don't really need power armor. The Mechanicus as a whole revolves around the idea of not just seeking the machine for protection, but becoming the machine itself; why wear armor when your body is already partly metallic? As we see in the episode "Kill Protocol" of Hammer and Bolter, when an Ork tried to attack the techpriest with an axe, the axe just bounced off and the techpriest was barely scratched and able to kill the Ork; granted it was lucky to only hit a specific part of the armor, but the point remains that the armor the Mechanicus wears is quite effective and they can use their cybernetic augments to match the advantages power armor would grant a Sister of Battle or an Astartes... Excellent video...
Thank you. I am very much obsessed with armour as a concept in sci fi. Totally agree that you don't need armour if you are the armour. See the necrons as this for a whole faction concept.
Also, as an addendum to your third point, divergent technological paths caused by ideology. The Admech makes heavy usage of prosthetics which are power armour in all but name, and extremely varied mechanical augments. As a result, some Magos/Archmagos are better protected than the average space marine, and stronger, but this usage of mechanical prosthetics is not seen as a tool of war (at least, not only so), but at a way to connect to the Omnissiah. Just look at the average Magos of the Adeptus Mechanicus: does it look like he needs power armour? And the Skiitari are trillion in strength, too costly and not effective enough to have them all furnished in armour, and also often mechanically augmented in some way. Power armour are, for the Admech, a loss of heavy resource for few, if any, gain. They can make automatons better (and cheaper). They can make servitors better (and cheaper). They can make prosthetics better. They can make augments better. It solves a non-existent problem for the Adeptus Mechanicus. Power armours are costlier than the average prosthetic, for more or less the exact same result. Power armours are really only useful for a small number of elites of genetically modified superhumans, which the Admech doesn't have, and can't, by the Treaty of Mars. Or for extremely important meatbags, like Inquisitors. If you're not a meatbag but a tin can, power armour are just not worth it.
It also does help that the AdMech have billions of battle servitors like the kataphrons who are so beond armoured and augmented they are basically tank people, and that the power of the machine is protection enough for the sons and daughters of the Omnisiah in general.
@@hardlyheroic114 and that indeed is the whole idea, as you said, no matter how impressive the massive army the mechanicus can produce can be, that all mostly are disposable, and can be easily replaced, unlike the space marines. It also helps the Mechanicus can rely apon some chapters they have close ties to like the Iron Hands, so why bother give armour to disposables when your ally who is already an expert with their gear can have it instead
Thank you. That's very kind. I like making videos about warhammer fantasy and other topics, but I am also interested in making 40k content as well. Just whatever takes my fancy.
>for centurys armor was discarded >shows at the same time arquebusiers/musketeers with a formation of ARMORED PIKEMEN in the background, yes those pikemen WEAR FUCKING BREASTPLATES BC IT HELPS THEM SURVIVE, against long range fire and artillery debry.
ACKSCHUALY; the guns made PLATE more common, and the rising percentage of Arquebusiers in central european armys, was countered by incresing the percentage of the pikemen that was required to wear armor, bc PLATE ARMOR COUNTERED FUCKING ARQUEBUSES; meanwhile chainmail vanished as it did protect not at all against bullets, while plate beyond a certain range would protect from arquebuse bullets and splinters from artillery impacts. only the size of armys and the large proportion of militarys that was actualy garrisoned and not part of the field army made armor cost ineffective and it was favored having more cheaper men for a bigger army, than having less men with higher survivability. armor could still be protective into the early 19th century as we see at the example of cuirassiers and corps du garde units which USED ARMOR TO REDUCE FATALITYS.
I was going to state, Tech-Priests wear power armor in the form of Dragon Scale. The only real difference is the priest has there own inbuilt power source, so it's power armor, but not with an independent power source.
skitari are expandable. SM´s are not so. the price for a skitari with and without PA more importantly is the time to produce it is not making it viable. economics in war dont matter. its win or die. some money is of no concern. what matters is time and effort to produce something. It is only logical that they dont use it.
