I saw your video earlier and your first lines " mixer is fast and wet grinder is slow " Appealed to me. For 20 years I did not use my wet grinder due to it's larger size. So before buying I used the wet grinder and the dosas were great. I also made my coconut grinding to and I am sure wet grinding is the best. Thank you so much for the first lines. I am not using my mixer now.

You are most welcome. I believe technology cannot beat our traditional way of cooking. Traditional way retain taste and nutrition. Dosa and Idlis made using wet grinder tastes much better than the ones made using mixer grinder.

@@aonehelp my Native is Sawantwadi, South Western Maharashtra bordering Goa. We cannot live without coconut. There are 2 types of curries or Sambharas. 1) made with Garam Masala. Coconut grated + Onions are fried and kept aside and can be made into paste in wet grinder , garam masalas can be added in whole form or powder form are added we call it ' Malvani Masala " . One use this whole thing for all pulses and non veg recipes 2) red Sankeshwari + Kashmiri chilies + onions + garlic + coriander seeds + black pepper + coconut grated . All in paste by wet grinder. This is used to make fish curries and or with drumstick + raw mango Both taste awesome and out of the world with wet grinder. I have the Olden Time stone grinder of my Mother. Hello Ma’m, I just came across this video as I’m trying to find a suitable wet grinder for my mother. We are from Bihar. I understand that most grinders are made in Tamil Nadu and they do not have service centres here. But we all like South Indian food very much and wish to have some authentic flavour (not so happy with the mixer batter results). I have two questions, 1. Since you have experience about these products, is it okay to purchase wet grinders at places where I won’t get service? I mean is it worth paying so much money for the risk? Do they last long without issues? 2. I am confused between the elgi ultra fast grind variant and perfect plus. Your expert opinion on that. Regards
@aonehelp
@aonehelp 3 года назад
Sorry for the late reply. We have purchased this grinder 3 years back and till today, we did not face any problem. Not even once. So no question of servicing. After studying different models, we felt perfect plus is a better choice.

Yes of course if the quantity is sufficient. We made coconut chutney (we have put small small pieces of coconut) few times. Generally we make very small quantity of chutney, hence not using the grinder for chutneys often but yes definitely the taste of chutney will be better than what we make using mixer grinder. Now there is a discount of 5% for this grinders in Amazon. If you are buying the grinder, I request to use the amazon link in description below our video.

Glad I perhaps came across a person from Karnataka using this grinder! Please reply to my query... Can Elgi Ultra Wet Grinder be used to grind stuffing for Obbattu/Holige... (hooraNa), a Karnataka dish. Till now my mother used Dry Grinder for this. But we always felt the manual stone grinder when my mother was young used to do better job and was more convenient. Hence I am guessing this wet grinder (which is similar to that manual stone) can do similar job? Did you try obbattu with Elgi Wet Grinder? I recently purchased Elgi Dry Grinder but haven’t tried Obbattu with that as yet. Problem with Dry Grinder is Obbattu hooraNa has Toor Dal you know which is semi-cooked & also it generates lot of heat, because the stuffing is already pre-cooked and is very hard thick paste. One of my old grinder stopped working, motor burnt out while making this (that one was pretty old anyhow). So this is the issue, hope you got it! The Wet-grinders I guess don’t generate much heat because there is stone & it’s a slow process... Please suggest… I am planning to buy this wet-grinder only if it does this job, because otherwise the Dosa/Idly batter is coming well with the dry grinder (I know this Wet Grinder gives superb Dosa/Idly Batter, but I want this additional option of Obbattu)
@madhupjadhav1379
@madhupjadhav1379 6 лет назад
Obbattu Hoorana is a tricky stuff because it is in between "Dry" and "Wet" Grinding! So I am in a confusion which one to use! It is a thick paste, so it may not flow easily between the stones in the wet grinder, so may not get ground properly. Whereas dry grinder can grind it well but the heat and the thickness of the paste can affect the taste and also can cause problems to the grinder! So please suggest what to do? Should we stick to the manual rubbu gunDu stone which can done all the multipurpose tasks, all kind of batters, grinding, crushing, etc? How good the life was before without machines I guess!
@aonehelp
@aonehelp 6 лет назад
Not tried this so far. However we tried Moong dal halwa. Moong dal was soaked for few hours and ground so boiled toor dal we shud be able to as it must have absorbed enough water and must have softened since we boil it before grinding. Still I think if you are making a enough quantity of obbattu or making obbattu very often, then its worth trying or else 'rubbu kallu' is definitely better. If you want, I will try to grind boiled dal and revert shortly. Since this grinder has timer, its really easy to maintain the consistency. We always put the timer and does not bother to attend till the grinder stops :).. Initially I was in a dilemma whether to go for timer or not but now I feel its worth. Let me know if you want me to try boiled dal. (Though I do not know how to make obbattu).
@madhupjadhav1379
@madhupjadhav1379 6 лет назад
Thanks for the quick reply! I wouldn't have minded using Rubbu kallu occasionally (or even for all tasks), but my mother is aged now and I can't ask her to do it now (still she did fantastic obbattu last time when the grinder motor burnt, it reminded me my childhood days!) My wife and sister are not into it and would always prefer machines (Can't argue with them when even myself am dependent on mobiles, PCs, bikes, cars :))) ) But at least I will invest on anything by making calculations! So please don't mind and I will be very thankful to you if you can try obbattu hoorana. The actual one and not just boiled dal... It is boiled toor dal + jaggery + dry coconut (not raw one, it increases the paste thickness further) + cardamom. This is the stuffing for obbattu. It will be very hard paste. Toor dal should be semi-cooked, because it will be fully cooked later on the pan when it goes as stuffing inside dough! Also over cooking will make it too soft & result in thin paste! Further you should not add much water (moisture should come only from jaggery) This is going inside dough as stuffing, and I guess you understand that it should be pretty thick! The extra water left out after cooking toor dal + the left over paste in the stone should be washed out and it can be used to make obbattu saaru/sambar which is another nice dish or you can discard it if you are not interested! Please try this entire thing (or see if your friends have tried it). I can assure it will be very tasty and even if you don't know to make obbattu you can just eat the stuffing as it is (especially kids will love it, and it is very nutritional as well!) I will definitely follow your link to purchase the grinder if I do decide to buy it :) I did purchase Elgi Dry grinder from amazon itself (local shops here do not sell Elgi products) I think this company (who are not known to mass) don't spend money on advertising & forced promotion, but invest everything on quality & rely on customer satisfaction + word of mouth, which is good! Thanks for all the help! Which state you belong to? (You have not prepared obbattu? but I hope you have tasted it)

Nice review..shall we use this grinder without switching on the timer?
@aonehelp
@aonehelp 5 лет назад
Timer will activate itself as per the time set during last grinding. I usually set it for 10 minutes so as soon as I switch it on, it will be automatically set to 10 min, I just have to press power button to start. This timer is really lifesaver at least for me. I switch on the grinder, close the kitchen door and will be busy somewhere else, even watch TV :):) I was reluctant to go for this model since I was thinking timer is not needed but now I feel, we have made the right decision even though we have paid 500 Rs extra (This model has 10 year quarantee). You can set the timer once and forget it. You can set it to maximum time that is 99 minutes and can switch off anytime in between as per your choice If you want to buy the grinder, this is the right time since Amazon sale is going on and at tpresent the price is 7920 Rs compared to regular price of 8590. It is possible only if you grate the ginger and put it for grinding. Also if you are making suficient quantity of this paste, then it is worth to grind in this wet grinder. We tried making cocount chutney. We have put very thin and small slices of cocount still it was unable to grind since the pieces used to go below the conical stone and was lifting the stone. Ultimately we have to grate the cocount and then ground it. But the chutney was really very tasty and was far better than the chutney we make using mixer grinder.
