THE DENTAA SHOW | SEASON 5 | EPISODE 2
DAVE BROWN, son of Dr. Amos Brown; an African American pastor of the Third Baptist Church of San Francisco since 1976 and civil rights activist and the president of the San Francisco branch of the NAACP. Dr. Brown was one of only eight students who took the only college class ever taught by Martin Luther King Jr.
DAVE BROWN is the founder of the 'INDIE NIGHT FILM FESTIVAL'. A drive that aims to elevate the craft of artists while giving them an avenue where they can be recognized on a bigger platform, network, and exchange information with new and established Hollywood creatives. He is an entrepreneur, an actor, and also a radio show host.
Dave made his way to Hollywood after receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College. He credits college friend Morris Chestnut by giving him his introduction to Hollywood. Dave currently sets up Morris’s appearances throughout the country, as well as other well-known celebrities in Hollywood including Jamie Fox.
Dave and his family were some of the many who visited Ghana in December 2019 'Year Of Return' (YOR) initiative. The year of return 2019 and beyond was commenced by Ghana's President 'Nana Akufo Addo' which saw the influx of diasporas, celebrities, holidaymakers, investors, and businesses coming back to the motherland 'Ghana'. Dave speaks to Dentaa on his experience on the YOR, the need for every African American / black person to visit Ghana, his journey from Morehouse to Hollywood, his dad being his role model, meeting Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Nelson Mandela and more and the need to unite as black people.. #visitGHANA #AfricanAMERICAN #YEARofRETURN

Georgia State Trooper Faces Felony Murder Charges In Traffic Stop Shooting August 17, 20204:33 PM ET Brakkton Booker at NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C., November 7, 2018. (photo by Allison Shelley) BRAKKTON BOOKER Twitter Former state Trooper Jacob Gordon Thompson has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in the killing of Julian Edward Roosevelt Lewis, a 60-year-old Black man. Georgia Department of Public Safety via AP/AP A former Georgia state trooper is facing felony murder and aggravated assault charges after he allegedly shot and killed a 60-year-old Black man during a traffic stop this month. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Friday that Jacob Gordon Thompson, 27, was to be booked in the Screven County Jail in connection with an officer-involved shooting on Aug. 7 that resulted in the death of Julian Edward Roosevelt Lewis. The agency also announced that the investigation is ongoing and that Thompson had been terminated from the Department of Public Safety, Georgia State Patrol. In a separate media release, the Georgia State Patrol said Thompson, who is white and had been a state trooper since 2013, was fired Friday due to his "negligence or inefficiency in performing assigned duties; or commission of a felony." According to the bureau's preliminary findings, Thompson attempted to stop Lewis, who was driving a Nissan Sentra, over a traffic offense. "The car refused to stop and led the trooper on a brief chase down several county roads," the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. "The trooper initiated a Precision Intervention Technique (PIT) and the car came to a stop in the ditch." At some point Thompson fired a single round, according to the bureau, and Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper was not hurt, officials said. Other high-profile killings of Black men in Georgia The charges against Thompson come as calls to end to systemic racism and police brutality against communities of color have led to months-long national protests following the death of George Floyd on Memorial Day. Floyd, a Black man, was killed when a white Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes. Georgia has also recently seen other high-profile killings of Black men. Rayshard Brooks was killed after attempting to flee from Atlanta police officers following an encounter in a Wendy's restaurant parking lot in June. Rayshard Brooks' Funeral Held At Church Where Martin Luther King Jr. Preached LIVE UPDATES: PROTESTS FOR RACIAL JUSTICE Rayshard Brooks' Funeral Held At Church Where Martin Luther King Jr. Preached Family Of George Floyd, Whose Death Sparked Protests, Says Final Goodbye AMERICA RECKONS WITH RACIAL INJUSTICE Family Of George Floyd, Whose Death Sparked Protests, Says Final Goodbye One officer has been fired from the Atlanta Police Department and faces 11 charges, including felony murder. Another officer, who remains with the department, is facing lesser charges, including aggravated assault. Three white men, one of them a former law enforcement official, have been charged with murder in the February shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery in Glynn County. Details in the incident report In the Aug. 7 Department of Public Safety incident report, Thompson said he initially observed the vehicle driven by Lewis had a broken taillight. Thompson followed Lewis for a period of time, activating both his emergency lights and eventually his siren. "It became apparent to me that the violator did not intend to stop his vehicle," Thompson said, according to the report. Thompson performed a driving maneuver that led Lewis' vehicle to crash and came to a stop. Thompson pulled his service vehicle beside Lewis' and exited. "Being concerned for my safety, I drew my weapon as I got out of the vehicle," Thompson said in the incident report. It appears that Thompson fired his weapon into Lewis' vehicle and then asked to see his hands. "At some point, I heard the engine on the violator's vehicle revving at a high rate of speed. I activated the light on my weapon and observed the violator with both hands on the steering wheel," Thompson said. He also said he observed Lewis "wrenching the steering wheel in an aggressive back and forth manner towards me and my patrol vehicle." "It appeared to me that the violator was trying to use his vehicle to injure me," he added. "Being in fear for my life and safety, I discharged my weapon once. After I fired, the violator sat back motionless. I recall ordering him to show me his hands, but he remained motionless," the report said. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Lewis was shot in the forehead. Francys Johnson, the Lewis family attorney and former head of the Georgia NAACP, also told the newspaper that the U.S. Justice Department had approved his request to open a civil rights investigation into Lewis' death. "We got lots of messages from people in the community that the habit of ex-trooper Thompson was to racially profile and harass Black and brown people on the highway," Johnson told the Atlanta paper. "This was not shocking to them that this happened." Find both the full incident report and the use of force report here.

I said why she was lost for word at the moment. She just said it again “every” black person needs to visit Africa” that touched my ❤️ heart deeply. Hope I can visit soon.

I am 1st Generation Ghanaian descendant who hasn't been home to Ghana in over 16 years. I am experiencing some really horrendous things here in the states. My experiences here would really rock the foundation of what of what Africans think about America and how people of color are treated. What I really wanted to say is your show has made me realize that I need to come home as soon as I can. So thank you very much.

I'm 60 years old, born and raised in Texas, USA. I have always been loyal and loving to these united states even though they seldom show either to people who look like me. I am a descendant of generations of enslaved African people. My dream, my wish and my hope is to come to Africa, at least to visit at first, but hopefully to live. The better part of my life has passed. At this point, I have a need, even a yearning, to experience what it feels like to be simply "a woman", in a place where no one automatically assumes I am up to no good because of my skin color. How refreshing it would feel to go shopping and not have security follow me from aisle to aisle (yes, it still happens to me, too frequently to even count). How wonderful it would feel to no longer be called or considered a "minority". I am not "minor", and neither is my family! I could go on and on, but I will just say wish me well and wish me luck on coming to Africa, hopefully soon, and I hope my children and grandchildren would do the same.

Saacha, that's a revelation from God. When they took slaves, there was a door of no return. And against all odds, when you come back to Africa, you prove them wrong. You honor your ancestors who were taken with chain as slaves, you come back as a free man. And you bring back the spirit of your ancestors in you to rest at home.

Africa is already continuing. She "may" have been down but certainly not out : ). Understand that a simple life is what God calls us to live. Quiet, peaceful life - 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12. Too much money has its downsides; greed, Iust etc, you have to be careful. It is better to give than to receive. The love of money may not be the main root of evil, but it is the root of "all kinds/sorts" of evil. Blessings

That's what I always say! It's so sad, that AAs always have to announce themselves when they are in a space! We blacks this, blacks that, we are black and proud, we blacks did this, did that, black person invented this, black power this, NAACP this, etc.etc., it just makes me so sad! As an African/Ghanaian born and raised, we took for granted what AAs had to work so hard for! I never knew I was "BLACK" until I came to the united states! What the hell is black?! We are just people in Africa, living our daily lives, where we belong. I come to the U.S. and on a daily basis my heart breaks for my brothers and sisters, to have to always shout out loud to be noticed, and label themselves BLACK, because they are amongst people who see them that way! This is so deep, and sad!

This is so amazing … so many of us “ Black Americans “ are plague with the absence of who we are and what we came from . I preach daily that so much would be resolved as we seek the voyage of investing into our African heritage . Our world in America has placed a wedge between the most beautiful place on earth . Thanks for the inspiration , I’m planning to come to Ghana December 2022 .

Dear brothers and sisters, please stop calling our great ancestors who were kidnapped and chained 'slaves'. We are sounding so much like our enemies. Refer to our chained ancestors as ancestors, our forebearers etc, but never slaves! The pink beasts that overran Africa did not kidnap 'slaves', they kidnapped as well as held captive prisoners of war who were sons and daughters of Africa to traffic away over the ocean. Thank you.

African people were involved in the slave trade and many nations had slaves as well. Don't sugarcoat it. Conquered tribes became slaves. They were sold and traded like cattle on the Continent. When we go back, we have to forgive what was done to our ancestors. To forgive you must first acknowledge.

I think that was a bit of a reach. If you noticed at his parties, majority of the people were Black Americans, and there were no issues, so I think belittling ourselves to try to make a point, needs to stop. I deal with majority Blacks in my investment club from the bottom to the top, and all are respectful polite friendly and helpful. Do we have issues from time to time, yes we do but we work it out in love. And to be honest with you, most of them are on the richer side of the spectrum, but you would never know unless someone pointed it out for you. They act and dress as casual as everyone else...I basically shut down my staffing firm just to be around my own... So we've got to stop repeating this negative narrative, just to lift up others, every group have issues within themselves sometimes, but at the end of the day, I believe most groups can get along...With that being said, it was a great interview, thanks for sharing...

But frankly, despite the many centuries of separation and miles, we are still connected every step of the way because till this day we feel every pain you go through. Every news of police brutality against you, racism etc hurts us here soo much. Nice interview, but I wish the Diaspora would adopt the term "OUR ANCESTORS" instead of saying "the slaves". He used that term 3 times within a 1.5 minute span, 4:00-5:30. I understand we Diaspora want to sometimes detach ourselves from that horrible event, but it would connect us to the Motherland if we use the term "ANCESTORS". It is also very empowering.
@S3bot
@S3bot 2 года назад
That's true. I think he used it for context to temporally refer to the enslaved ancestors. The current Diaspora are the descendants of the ancestors, so they would be aptly referred to as the African Diaspora and contrasted with Africans in the Diaspora who are just recent immigrants to distant lands.

I appreciate your honesty about the positive and negative about ghana this is one example that causes African American to leave and come to ghana this happen two months ago 2 men charged with murder in the fatal shooting of black jogger in Georgia Two men have been arrested and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man whose family said he was jogging on the day he was killed, officials from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Thursday night. The shooting of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, which took place on February 23, ignited racial tensions across Georgia. Arbery was confronted by Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis, who shot Arbery before he collapsed and died, according to the bureau. Gregory, 64, and Travis, 34, were both charged with murder and aggravated assault. The men were taken into custody and will be booked into the Glynn County Jail, the bureau said. Gregory McMichael left, and his son Travis McMichael was charged on May 7, 2020, with murder in the February shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old black man who was jogging in Brunswick, Georgia. GLYNN COUNTY DETENTION CENTER VIA AP The decision comes days after cellphone video emerged that captured the final moments of Arbery's life while he was jogging through the Brunswick neighborhood in February. Trending News New video emerges of the fatal shooting of black jogger in Georgia Top cop condemns officer's "closed casket" comment after the deadly shooting "Alarming" spike in unintentional shootings by kids during lockdowns According to the only witness in the police report, McMichael told investigators he thought Arbery was a burglary suspect and ordered him to stop. McMichael said Arbery "violently" attacked his son, and the two fought "over the shotgun" before Travis shot him twice. At the time, no charges were filed. McMichael is a former law enforcement officer who used to work for the local district attorney. Due to conflicts of interest, the case is now on its third prosecutor, who said he will ask a grand jury to bring charges. Arbery's mother, Wanda Jones, said the cellphone footage of the incident proves her son was not committing a crime. "He was out for his daily jog and he was hunted down like an animal and killed," Jones said. "I'm hoping that all involved, they're indicted and they go to jail." Arbery's death sparked condemnation across the country. "We're literally hunted EVERYDAY/EVERYTIME we step foot outside the comfort of our homes!" LeBron James tweeted Wednesday. "Can't even go for a damn jog man! Like WTF man are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!? No man fr ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! I'm sorry Ahmaud (Rest In Paradise) and my prayers and blessings sent to the... heavens above to your family." Former Georgia Congresswoman Stacey Abrams weighed in on the arrests on Twitter, writing Thursday, "Important first step, but the first of many. The @Georgia_NAACP lifted up #AhmaudArbery and his family's struggle for action to help them draw attention to this heinous crime. We must not look away." First published on May 7, 2020, / 8:30 PM
