With the placebo effect in mind, I feel like I can be more mechanical with the octane, but I feel much more confident with ground play with the fennec. Especially in 1v1s.

Switching to fennec was a weird experience. At first I loved it and the octane felt so janky and nimble. But as I began to use the octane more I realised my experiences where almost the same. The way I play with the fennec and the octane are pretty much identical, however I feel like I give more power to my shots with the Fennec.

I find that because the Fennec has a more squared off front-end, you literally see the corners of your hitbox better for power shots.

I'm always more confident in touches and banger shots with that broad flat bumper bonnet, same for goes for Dingo & Dominus for me 😁 Three whiffs playing rank with friends, I dodge back to those until I can hit a ball properly at least.

I've been an octane player for 3 years now and was stuck in diamond 3 for two seasons. Just 2 weeks ago i bought the fennec and i ranked up to champ 1 in the first 2 days. It just feels better when you hit the ball, and on top of that i learned to do flip resets and be consistent at them.

It's funny, I actually switched to the fennec a few months ago because I was struggling with air dribbles and getting beat a lot on 50s. I tried the fennec and just felt the blockiness of the nose registered better in my brain and my gameplay in both areas immediately improved. I've been using it ever since. It's usually me using the fennec surrounded by 5 other octanes in 3s 😂.

@@Yeung_G unfortunately, the Fennec won't be in the garage automatically. You'll either need to purchase one in the market (when available), earn a blueprint, or trade with someone.

My first introduction to fennec was Fairy Peak in season 8 worlds, and the colors he used for his orange side was the reason why I wanted one. While I am aware Chaussette was the first pro to use the car at a lan, Fairy was the one who had me wanting one. Saying that, I’ve been a fennec main basically since f2p, I haven’t been able to fully switch back to octane because octane feels weird and heavy to me somehow. When I do, it’s usually 1-2 games then immediately switch back because I forget where everything is on octane

I've played Dominus since it came, made a brief switch to test the cyclone and a few other hybrid cars. The store finally convinced me a couple days ago to see what thr fennec feels like and i must say im impressed. Yes, i miss my power dominus flicks, but in the air the fennec just feels better. Placebo ot not, noe i get it

For me one day the fennec feels better and the other day the octane feels better. In general, fennec suits my playstyle better since I'm not flashy and moreso trying to play solid, fast and hit hard shots

​@@zabaplayz5432 It's not just placebo tbh. Even if they have the same hitbox, using a car that can give you a better visual feel of that hitbox is much more convenient as you can then place your car properly to make contact with the ball.

I also think its just about popularity. The marauder, an old car from 2016 apparently fits the octane hitbox most accurately out of any car in the game, yet noone uses it. It's just people following a trend and then realising the car is good, which is why i think if pros used some other octane hitbox car that looks nice like the fennec does, say the dingo, people would also say it is a great car.

I switched to the fennec two months as a skeptic. I played 1s for an evening and couldn't believe how much easier it was to hit the ball hard; dribble, and win challenges..notably when I had low boost. Went to 2s...loved it more. I have gone from skeptic to believer. I've never gone back to octane. Love my fennec. (I'm GC1/2)

I'm convinced only the second reason is valid. If pro players or anyone else actually cared about model-hitbox accuracy, they would all be guzzling around in the road hog xl.

for those who play with the Hybrid Hitbox, I highly recommend u switching to the Insidio, it is like the Fennec, better Visual/Hitbox Ratio.

Octane is really goated for flicks and air dribbles Fennec has more wide body power for 50s and seems to have the corner of the car lined up better for more power on shots

Another aspect to better filling the actual hitbox, to me, is consistent bumps and demos. Likely just a personal thing, but I always feel like I make much more consistent contact when rotating back through a play and hunting for demos in a Fennec than in an Octane.

I like octane for flicks because it is such a familiar body to dribble with, but Fennec has flat edges which helps get a good cross section on the ball

As soon as I bought it I went up almost a whole rank (from d1 to d3), I feel like my mechanics are actually there and have been clipping a bit more (before that my clips consisted of just longshots from 1 net to the other or maybe an air dribble bump if I was able to pull it off)

I used the fennec for 85% of my rl career. Got the mustang and have been rocking that since it came out. The square body of the fennec gives you a better idea of what will happen when the ball hits certain areas of the car but I got tired of looking like everyone else aside from some decals and boosts so im sticking with more originality

A large bit of the ass is not inside the hitbox. So even ppl dont use the rear off the car alot its a bit annoying that the ball go through the car when using Dingo. Always been a Fennec main but like the Dingo apart from the rear.

I really can't believe nobody is talking about this or writing about this in the comments. I have almost 4,000 hours in the game so I can say with absolute certainty that the Fennec is 100% rotating faster in the air like the air roll and general direction. If you have played so much with the Octane and then switch to the Fennec u just feel something isn't as normal. Pros r using the Fennec cuz when you move different (faster) in the air u r faster in the air.

I haven’t used the fennec when it first came out, I never bought anything in rocket league for a long time, back when keys use to be a thing. I bought the fennec last night and I actually feel like the car is rewarding, the way it feels, grounded, touches, 50s and more. I personally thing that this car is going to be “the car” for a couple of years until something “better” comes out. I really love the car and it’s insane

I'm much more consistent with my shots but I also wasn't an octane hitbox main until I started using the fennec. I always struggled with my shots on octane whereas I could rock shots with the breakout and dominus so I always used those. Once I got the fennec I tried it out and the visual aspect of the car helped me understand the hitbox much much better and I've fallen in love with it

One advantage I think the Octane has, is the visualization of the wheels when you jump, and land. Making it easier to know when you can jump again after landing. But overall I also prefer the Fennec.

i just recently got the fennec and its 100% easier to play, much more consistent first touch's, easier to aim and airdribble. Visually fitting the hitbox is an advantage.

I go for Octane for aerial mechanics because of the pointy nose for air dribbles and naked wheels for flip resets. Fennec for 50's and ground plays. Thats the placebo it has on me and most people and i switch between them depending on my mood.

Biggest placebo for me is the decals and colors the octane feels pretty fast with any decal but the fennec feels so bulky with certain ones. If you put a good decal on the fennec feels just as fast as the octane for me

I switch between the Octane, Fennec, and Dominus based on where I'm on in the season and what I'm working on. Octane for the control, Dominus for air control, Fennec for solid play. I do feel the same way though, Fennec feels like it has a bit more weight to it and things just work out better. But sometimes switching cars for me gives me a new perspective and changes the way I play the game, regardless of the car.

The long nose on the fennec makes it feel more like a lever to me. I feel like I can hit more powerful shots and make more drastic movements in the air. The placebo is crazy

I've switched between the octane and the fennec for the last month. My go-to currently is the fennec. The ability to see the hitbox areas definitely helps for the more technical shots.

I just think it looks better. I like the Dominus and skyline for some reason though, it just feels really nice. But the Fennec/Octane does get better 50's, so I switch between them often.

I think the reasons pros are switching is actually super simple: Zen (&others). There’s a long long history on the cosmetic preferences of pros which shows that pros tend to copy the design schemes/car choices of their best fellow pro players. Zen has been an absolute demon only in the fennec for the last 1-2 years and I think pros have started gravitating that way because of it. And it has a snowball effect, the more pros who use fennec will see more convert, and then the snowball continues.

I would say its design is closer to octane hitbox than octane itself. I use Twinzer since it was released anyways.

Agreed! Although one thing maybe the octane has, since the front end doesn't accurately represent the hitbox as well as the fennec, it can be misleading to the opponent in trying to tell if you (using the octane) will make the touch or not. So if you (using the octane) can be accurate in manipulating that sometimes it is useful. Like there have been numerous times I'll go for the challenge (opponent has octane) but I miss read it slightly because of their visual model of the car (the front end) isn't even touching the ball but the hitbox still gets the touch , but I dont know how much of an advantage that really is overall

I see your point, but I think the effect of the visual representation of the hitbox falls off with distance, so you're going to be very affected by it yourself and an opponent only a couple of meters away is probably not going to be affected at all. Most of the visual cues you get from opponent's cars really isn't down to pixel perfect hitbox recognition, but to read intent by the general orientation and a feeling for what should and can be done.

You're over simplifying, and over complicating at the same time. No one is reading the hit box of the car. per-se. It's more you're reading the intention of your opponent. What you described probably rarely, if ever comes up into pro play. I doubt a pros like oh man, if he was only using a fennec, I could have better judged that.

Totally makes sense. I switched to Fennec again before the start of this season. But I gave the Golf GTI a try and I’ve been mailing it since day one of this season. I went back to Octane again just to see if I noticed a difference and honestly I felt like my accuracy and power on shots just wasn’t as consistent. Went back to the Golf GTI and I was back to being consistent with shots, ball control and power on shots.

As someone who has been playing since pre f2p season 3 of RLCS. Maiming the octane before the fennec came out and then almost immediately maiming the fennec because I like the way it looks, now occasionally switching back and forth here’s my comparisons - fennec feels better for Speed Powerful touches - Octane feels better for Aerial control/mechanics 50s Demos 45 degree flicks/mustys I know some of this is contrary to what Thanovic says in the video but just from someone who’s used both for thousands of hours that’s my comparison Hands down the octane feels more consistent for flip resets - the fennec is just HARDER/less consistent to get flip resets/have a good flick on the ball with the actual reset. Octane feels way more consistent with getting powerful 45 degree flicks, and not getting those dud touch mustys where you don’t actually get a good scoop. When in the air and trying to take a soft controlled touch the octane feels like it hits the ball away from itself much much lighter and it makes it easier to follow up on. Lastly when trying to hit the ball WITHOUT a flip - the octane feels like it hits the ball WHERE YOU WANT IT TO GO much more consistently than the fennec - imagine setting up a double tap from the air for example - on fennec I’ll try to hit the ball to the backboard and it’ll go who knows where. On octane it feels much easier to get the ball to go where I actually want it. ALL OF THIS and I still currently main the fennec because after getting used to the different feeling of speed and control you feel on the car it’s hard to switch back to octane for long - but if you solo queue a lot I think octane is the better choice for most people because you have to do a lot of solo carrying in ranked and the octane afford better control to be able to do so Hope someone enjoyed my rant ❤ Edit: okay wow I made that comment about halfway through the video before thanovic literally right afterward said the EXACT OPPOSITE about the things I said - crazy how much placebo might actually be making the difference

I’ve always been a Fennec main and in C3 where I am, I absolutely love using the Fennec. It hits hard, literally. And I love doing resets and general aerial work with it more than the octane.

right now i’m gc1 right below div 4 so i have a decent understanding of how to hit ball but sometimes i feel like i’m really scammed a lot off my hits.. i’m going to switch to see if it’s the same i feel like with the car matching more with the hit box hopefully it will change.

Road Hog actually seems the most accurate to the octane hitbox, just fyi. Harbinger seems to fit better, too, than the Fennec (with the exception of its back).

It’s crazy you say this because both my brother and I switched to the fennec since the gold one was in shop and we jumped like three divisions. In the last two weeks. Had no idea other people were switching too so no placebo. For us the hitbox is just easier to visualize to hit those corners and moving in the air feels more predictable. I used to not like the fennec because it felt heavy but I didn’t get that feeling this time around.

100% Fennec is the way to go. I love it. I have always struggled with octane for some reason, it felt awkward all the time when trying to flip-reset. When I switched to Fennec I was in GC in no time. Now I'm getting close to GC2 (1500 hours).

1 advantage that i have realized makes a big difference is the shape of the fennec. The fact that it looks more like the hitbox than Octane does makes it easier the visualize the hitbox in game

i switched to the fennec when it first came out. After a while I was playing with octane but it didn't feel right, my game sense and mechanics where off untill I switched back to the fennec. The way how I see it -> the fennec is a combination of the octane hitbox with the dominus squared edges. For me the best car

The thing is I’m too used to the octane and the “weird” and “unique” hits you get with it. Whenever I try out the fennec I cannot dribble anymore and miss all my shots

as someone with massive placebos when it comes to this game i’ve noticed a few certain differences between octane and fennec. my playstyle is less ball chases in fennec than octane. i’m assuming it’s my lack of confidence in the fennec hit box but idk. second is that flip reset are 10x harder for me than the octane. my best guess is just the visual difference makes it harder for me to see how close i am to the ball with my wheels. and lastly my precision in the fennec is exponentially is better. i can hit the ball to the back board exactly where i want whenever i want while i struggle to do that with octane.

oh, there’s absolutely a massive impact the visuals of your car can have on your gameplay. all the things you state in your video and more, but also i feel like decals and designs come into play here as well. simpler car, simpler play. more flashy design makes me wanna go for clips and be fancy.

octane feels way more nimble than fennec, I immediately noticed it after I had been playing fennec for a month or 2, there's a surprisingly big difference in feel

Tried the fennec around plat. Hated it. Went back to octane. Fast forward to C2, I got a nice skin for the fennec. Now it's my main and can't see myself going back. With me, its more of the looking good, feeling good, playing good ideology. Plus the gold fenec is pretty nice.

It took me a long time to even have a fennec, and the first one I got was the sky blue variation. I made it work with the style I put on it, but what stood out to me was how much better I got at air dribbles (I was low plat at the time). Today I have 3 different fennec presets, and 3 different octane presets. I also have a bunch more I hardly ever use, but I find that when I'm focusing on being consistent, the fennec is the car I go with. At times where I feel I'm starting to peak, the octane is my choice. I never thought of it as placebo, just the car I want to use at the time. But, perhaps, there something to the placebo effect.

I've been running the fennec pretty much since it came out. I am a proud fennic main. Octane still feels amazing! But fennec just has it.

Since this thing you noticed about Fennecs being all over, same goes with my teammates... I actually gave it a spin again tonight and it wasn't half bad, not as bad as I was a couple of days ago when I gave it one match spin. What you are saying make a whole lot of sense and agree. I do feel though that I also would be playing better in the Octane, but actually been rocking the Dominus as a main for the last two seasons, maybe because more 1v1s (I know Fennec) but also because certain workshops and mech training has ended me on Dom like this, that and my sick preset and maybe that I actually play ok with the Imperator (being longer) but still not Breakout fully under control, but hella better with it since ever and every time I tried... Now with this theory I would also be looking into the Dingo again as main, definitely when I happen upon a TW Dingo, will be rocking that at least for two seasons XD Maybe until I make it to Champ one day when the scam runs out 😅 Now I'm but a mere gold and at least plat 3 again playing in Diamond / champ lobbies, but doesn't matter as much as my accidental or shall I say unexpected surprise air dribble in free play last night, chatting to a friend and testing all graphics settings (drivers and in-game), not a goal though, but I was like what what, is this becoming a possibility now 😊 Now where is the submit button for this blog post? As someone who came into the game late (2018/19) I've always preferred the Fennec. For me it's always been more esthetically pleasing, and being one of the first to unlock a TW Fennec caused me to want to use it over the Octane.

I main the fennec and octane. It’s easier to body in the fennec. I find that I arial and can get shots off the corner of my car more consistently in the octane. They each have perks. For fun sometimes I will use the skyline and the delorian.

I started my RL career using octane, but I could not get consistent with it. I switched to dominus and learned how to carry much quicker and was much better at powershots. I mained the dominus and then switched to the GTI for this season just to try it out (and I like the car in real life), and I stayed with that car for quite awhile. I'm curious how that car fits with the octane hitbox.

I've had an entirely different experience with fennec's placebo. Forced myself to use it for a bit since I was having a hard time with rl in general and for a while I felt better, nearly got back up to gc from c2 div 3 in an hour or so. New season came and all of a sudden fennec just made me feel more mechanical while octane I generally play smarter but also more consistent. Fennec feels more like "go for everything to get more comfortable with everything" while octane feels more like "go it safely but also stay fast and controlled" Placebos are weird but it's overall made me faster so im not complaining

It may be dumb what im going to say, but... I don't see people talking about it, but in my opinion, the wheels are one of the main reasons making the octane feel much different to play than the fennec. To be more exact: the suspension is the one making it kinda weird for me. I love the octane, but the "soft" feeling suspension, the "latency" in the movement caused by the weels moving "slower" than the car itself makes me feel weird why playing with it. The fennec's smaller wheels with the harder suspension is just making me feel more accurate and kind of faster as well.

For me the fennel makes me more confident in my mechs. Hence making me more flashing and the fennel feels lighter to me then the octane. Better 50/50s and touches. It's a no Brainer for me personally

For the majority of my time playing the game I’ve been an octane main, occasionally using the fennec for a week or two to keep things fresh. But for the last couple of months I’ve been using the fennec. I definitely agree that I feel flashier in the octane but I feel like my mechanics are more solid and reliable in the fennec. I have fewer off days in the fennec than in the octane, I’m just generally more consistent.

The Octane has better “pointed” visual for hitting the ball in front, especially in aerial play, IMO. I can be a little more on specific target with it, while the fennec I may hit the ball but may not be as precise in location in aerial play.

This is the natural progression of the car meta, while people still use the Octane on preference and nostalgia, the fennec is slowly but surely phasing out the viability of the octane. It is simply inevitable.

Fennec is really a very stylish car. You do the same tricks via fennec and it looks soo visually appealing almost to the point that its breath taking. Ngl if i have to compare hitboxes i felt that the Volkswagen's hitbox is very very close to the octane's hitbox. At the end of the day its your choice with what kind of hitbox you'd prefer.

I love the fennec and have used it since I started playing heavy ~late 2020-2021 but what I always found funny is everyone clowned on fennec players for the longest time because it wasn't the octane look where we stand on fennec users

I actually hated the Octane when I first started playing, partially because I didn't understand the hitbox. I was never sure where the ball was going to go because my car looked so awkward. I thought I just had to get used to it because it was the popular car and I'm a sweaty tryhard that wanted to git gud, but then when I saw the fennec for sale in the shop I picked it up because it looked a lot easier to use. I'm now that asshole fennec main in your 2s games that will always go for the low 50 and rotate for demos across goal.

Does it actually make sense for me to switch? (9800+ matches played. Sad, I know). I've noticed that hardly anyone in my rank, GC, uses the Lamborghini Countach as their main car. It's kind of quirky, I know, but I absolutely adore the way it handles and have become intimately familiar with its hitbox. Plus, let's not forget how much I love its aesthetics. So, given all that, should I even consider switching to the Fennec?

I used to be an Octane main, the Titanium White Fennec was in the Item Shop yesterday and the second I bought it I instantly felt a difference for some reason. I mean, it's a car I always wanted; maybe my mind was tired of using the Octane... but, I do feel like I've somehow improved a little.
