I was able to walk my dog last night for the first time by myself two years into my recovery. I have left side paralysis and it's because of this woman and my perseverance that it was possible. Thanks sooooo much my dear. There's no help in Trinidad for stroke patients. U have made this season of my life a little more liveable because I'm the only one who is here for my furbaby. I made promises to him when I got him an I intend on keeping them. He's the greatest love of my life. Thanks alot Elyse. 💕

I had a stroke in 2021 which left me barely able to walk using two canes. PT helped me recover quite a bit. I used to go cycling on an upright bike but I have recently changed to a recumbent trike. It has brought a good deal of fun back into my life. My thoughts are, do the PT to the absolute best of your ability and don't be afraid of making changes to improve your life.

I am a year out from a massive pons stroke. I watch all of Elyse's videos and they are helping me tremendously. She helped me really understand neuroplasticity and how repetition helps rebuild. Keep your positive attitude and put the work in. Good luck on your healing journey.

You are early in your recovery, it took me a while to get back on my feet. Insurance making the decisions about your care plan bites.

@PrinceNoble, That is 100% that right attitude to have. You can do this. Keep putting the work in and maximize the PT you're able to get now. Have them send you home with lots of homework and stick to it. I'm so proud of all you've done and what you'll continue to do! ❤️

I had a massive ischemic stroke in October 2020. I was very healthy and active prior to my stroke and I try to continue after just in a different way. My left side is affected and no movement in my arm. I did experience the insurance challenges you mentioned. The gap I find is not knowing what exercises to do to impact my recovery most.

@carrieA, Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm glad to hear you've found ways to stay active. Are you able to get into therapy with your insurance now that we're in a new year? The number of visits/payments allowable usually restart at the beginning of the year. Might be worth looking into, even though I know it's a pain in the butt, but to especially have some personalized recommendations for your exercises ❤️

@Post Stroke I did go back to PT for a couple of visits, but the therapist said he can't do anything more to help me. I went to a couple of OT visits and am going back later this month, not sure what to expect though she said the same as the physical therapist. But we shall see! Thank you!

Thank you. I really needed to listen to this. (I'd been ignoring it😏) My stoke happened four years ago caused by my foolishness from not taking my blood thinner (that's a long story I won't go into it but suffice it to say I should have spoken to the doctor who prescribed it to me) and thereby had a mild stroke. They were giving me the TPA but I started throwing up and they ceased ministering it. Once I came home I did have an OT and PT that came tomy house. The PT was wonderful. He had me working my leg to the point that now I'm not dragging my foot. (I didn't suffer fron drop foot because I broke my ankle and my foot is now attached to my body so the ankle joint no longer works, before the stroke I walked fine as I also have Charcot foot, but that didn't stop me from getting around. To top it off I'm also diabetic (lol) still I was fine because I had a better diet. So when the stroke happened I was determined to recover, I've never been sick a long time, but now, it's been four years and I still need help with things, especially bathing and getting dressed. Urgh! That drives me bonkers. I love my husband but I don't feel he still should be helping me. At any rate, the OT, when she was suppose to be helping me get a hand on excersising my arm and hand, she'd use the excuse of her granddaughter for not coming by twice a week. The PT was always at my home, the OT, however, was there only three times in a four month period. Even when the PT went on vacation, he had someone cover for him. So my arm and hand was really behind in recovery. Then I went to a stroke clinic outside my home and had a great PT. Then she got a raise and went else where, further away from where I lived. So the people who took over for her tried to have me doing things I wasn't ready for. By now I've pretty much given up hope that my arm and hand will ever work again. After all, the OTs that took over for the one who left all told me to accept my arm and hand never working again. The doctors have said the same thing, but I've SEEN my fingers go straight, yet when I try to make them, nope. I have to rely on my medical insurance, as I'm not rich and can't go every day, or have someone come to my home. I've pretty much given up on OTs. So in order to get my arm and hand working, I've got to do it myself. Maybe it's foolish, but I know it, like my leg, will recover. I just wish it didn't take so long. LOL. So this video helped, a lot. Sorry for making it so long. You gave me hope again. Thank you.

Hello Elyse, my son had a stroke in 2020 which affected his right leg and his hand, the dominant one. He has spasticity, which he is currently getting Botox. He is currently going to PT and OT. They’ve given him homework to do at home but it’s not enough. How much would it cost to have a personal therapist come to the house? He lives in Bronx, NY. Or, is it better for him to sign up at a gym, to work on his right arm/hand, but he would need someone who is familiar with this type of condition, correct? What do you suggest? Thank you Priscilla
