You’re SPOT ON. My husband was diagnosed as a kid with ADHD, so was his brother and his brother’s daughter (who was in daycare-surprise surprise). As a child he was medicated. After college he got off pills, but didn’t yet know of supplements. When we married, he started then again and it was disastrous-his personality changed and he become withdrawn and couldn’t handle anything-he worked, but was disoriented and lost. We both knew that all the drugs were dangerous and ineffective and we decided separately he needed to come off and then realized when we came together we both agreed. FF 15 years later-after his own research on all the supplements you suggested, he’s happy and content and feels like himself. His hyper focus for work is a blessing, not a burden. Medications are a sad lie we buy into-a means parents and schools use to create a desired response at the expense of children.

I can not thank you enough for this!! I have several grandchildren who have been or could be diagnosed as ADHD. I watch the schools lack of properly handling this, and I feel frustrated! They get almost ZERO exercise, horrible food, etc..... these kids are set up to fail ☹️

Yes, there is no doubt the current/Prussian school system model needs to be improved. Rather than fact memorization we need more customized to children's gifts, more kinesthetic learning and outdoor time along with teaching kids how to think.

@@drjoshaxe exactly what I thought why I hated school when I was a kid! Because I never liked memorising but only understanding the science behind the story 😢 I think the reason why ADHD people don't concentrate for long time because the way they learn is by understanding not memorising, so it takes way more energy when you are trying to continually understand something then when you memorize it! So that's why they always need to take a break after half an hour! Because they use way more brain energy and focus in doing something than other people because they are actually trying to understand the science behind it! Unlike other people just memories the words! Do you think I'm correct? That's why other people can concentrate and study for longer because they look at it in a simple way so their brain is not as much pressure as people with ADHD when they are actually trying to understand more than actually what they are giving or they want to understand the science behind the story so their brain will just need to take a break for this reason! I figured it out!

For clearnesses sake, i would like to highlight, what this person is talking about is not the actual ADHD, what is a real brain developement problem, and can be medically proven. There is a big difference in people who dont notice others are talking to them when focused, and the ADHD simptom of literally unable to clean my house or struggle to do any task, because it is not what my brain focuses on at the moment, and my brains focus jumps to different things often within seconds, so your surroundings are littered with half finished tasks and you are unable to finish even the ones that you are interested in, because your brain is tripping you up. Like when people tell OCD diagnosed people oh yeah i have a little of an OCD too because i like things a certain way. It is not the same thing when you just have a quirky personality. The diagnosis is important because beople arenunable to live a functional life, like all the others do, because their brain wont let them start or complete a task no matter how interesting it is and how stimulated you are at tme moment. Better sleep patterns, and excersize, diet helps, but you can not mend the brain developement issue, and when you stop focusing on self betterment that goes away too. Because that is what ADHD does. I do understand you are not talking about real ADHY but misdiagnosed people, but the way you present it makes people reinforce the stigma that ADHD is not a real thing, that we just need to try harder, or get a notebook.
@EffectivePickyEatersSolutions
I think you are right. A lot of people have the right diagnose and a lot of them are not. Based on his info I can be diagnosed with ADHD too, but I don't fit. I highly recommend reading the book Gabor Mate the scattered mind. He is a doctor and has ADHD.

When I attended college I learned to do the massive amount of reading needed by riding on a stationary bike, which enabled me to focus. I totally agree with everything you said. I had children with similar problems, but refused using all the drugs they wanted to prescribe. Thank you. Forwarding to my son.

As an elementary principal, focus and attention has consumed conversations when dealing with behaviors in classrooms. I am passionate about what other tools, strategies, and professional development I can provide my staff, students, and families. In our school students do have 2 - 20 minute recess, a 30 minute lunch, 90 minutes of PE a week, a lot of small group instruction with rotations and engaging activities, yet we are still working to support some of our students who continue to struggle with disrupting the classroom, having explosive behaviors, and other struggles. I would love to educate parents more on this topic, do you have a podcast you have done for parents or would you be willing to record one, especially for split family homes because there seems to be a correlation there as well? Any podcasts for school staff would be great on because we can’t control students food, their supplements, their sleep or their time on devices outside of school. Thanks for any advice you can provide. This is a great conversation!

My step son was “diagnosed” with ADHD and he’s on some type of medication. Every summer when he’s out here he has a complete culture shock. He goes from eating fast food every single meal or his lunch school. From watch TV constantly and playing video games every waking hour to eating home cooked real food and playing outside and doing Jiu Jitsu. He’s a completely different kid compared to how he is at his mom’s house.

I've dealt with depression my whole life. When at the end of my rope for trialing meds I was diagnosed with ADHD. I will say shifting to a low dose ADHD med has quieted my anxiety GREATLY. I can fall asleep within 5 minutes as opposed to tossing and turning all night. I am calmer and I can manage my emotions so much easier. So I'd be interested to hear you talk about clinical MDD and ADHD.

Great question and thank you for sharing. There is no doubt medications can serve someone well in short-term emergency situations. However, long-term use of amphetamines causes a drop in dopamine uptake which will further cause depressive symptoms. Here is a study: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7260268/

First, spend a lot of time doing what they love to do and what's good for them, like spending time outdoors on tech devices. Next, try and reward them. If they are willing to do something they are not gifted at (in order to get through school) reward them with more of what they love to do.

They diagnosed my 4.5-year-old son with ADHD. But isn’t it too early to make this diagnosis? Because his behavior is also consistent with the typical behaviors of a four-year-old. The doctor prescribed medication, and I gave it to him twice. Then my husband and I realized that he wasn’t acting like himself. His expression changed, and he became lethargic. These medications only kill his character. He goes to sports, play therapy, and occupational therapy. He is very intelligent and learns quickly. It seems like he’s not listening, but he knows everything. He can make jokes and is very fun. He started speaking early and learned everything on his own. He even learned to use the toilet by observing his older cousins when he was 2 years old. He has always had a high level of awareness. I don’t want to turn him into a zombie with medication and kill his true potential and personality.

The way you described yourself and your attention when young in a classroom setting, was also my exact experience. And the, "Did you hear a word I just said?" happens quite a but between my husband and I. Our daughter is very creative, and when she was in grade school her 1st grade teacher scolded her and embarrassed her a lot because she was the same way. I was offered medication to give to both my kids - and I would not give it. Thank you for providing this info and retelling your experience. I really struggle even more now that I'm in my 40s. Lol I take supplements such as Magnesium, Vit D3/K2, triple B, Cortisolv )because apparently my stress levels are high when I wake up. I've been told to take Lions Mane. I was for a while, but tend to fall off. I've never tried Ginko Baloba, though. I will look into this. Big things that made great improvements in my past was taking out most gluten, whey, and cow dairy. In fact that change made a HUGE difference in my painful (sometimes almost passing out) menstruation in past years. Incredible change there. Still need improvement though, and it doesn't help that I have Hashimotos. Thank you, again, for the helpful information all these years!

What about ODD? I’ve heard there’s a connection between ODD and Adhd. I also recently started trying to find out if there is a connection between that and maybe Pitocin or stressful hospital labors. I always believed this that you’re saying about ADHD, but then i had three children, two boys and one girl and I’m struggling to believe this is all there is behind ADHD. My kids are homeschooled so I try to make it as engaging, personalized and fun as I can for each of them. My oldest boy (almost 7 years old) and the only one I had a hospital birth/pitocin/epidural/antibiotics with since very young required a lot of stimulation, he deals with lack of impulse control, lots of meltdowns/tantrums, since he was 1 he would bite all the other kids, now that he’s older he still gets angry often and hits, or he will pass by one of the other kids and pinch him. Many times I’ve noticed it’s not done out of malice or hatred or jealousy but in a playful, impulsive type of way. My dad is similar though, lacks impulse control and he would do things to bother others on purpose in a playful type of way. It’s hard to think he just needs more play, he gets a lot of play but he doesnt know how to control himself when he plays. I love Jordan Peterson and I remembered he once said its so important for boys to wrestle with their fathers so they learn to be self controlled but this happens often with my son and his dad and it always ends up with my husband ending the playtime because of how rough he plays and how he doesnt know how to play yet he goes and does it again and the cycle continues. Still havent found something to help him control himself. I’m always teaching him, talking to him about the importance of self control, self discipline, boundaries, listening to others when they say stop, etc. nothing works. Any advice?

I grew up in Moldova, with country food and tiering physical work. We also knew that not everyone is built for sitting Down and learning, but everyone needed to make efforts. ADHD is nonsense.

My husband does not have ADD, but he still doesn't hear me unless i am careful to get his focus.

I've read some books that say that this is a biological trait that the majority of men have. What's interesting is that women can hear more of a range of sounds (higher frequencies), but generally men are better at determining where the sound came from (ex: if a twig snaps in the woods while you're hiking).

Thank you for this valuable info! Can I give L-Theanine and CBD tincture to my 13-year-old? If so, what would be the proper dose? Thank you!

I would take as directed in most cases for high-school-aged children. I personally take 100mg of L-theanine and 20mg CBD.

This would have been a lot better if the male/female aspect was left out. I know far more females with this than males but I wouldn’t preach from my perspective this is a female dominate issue. This is an environment issue. Sports was pushed more for boys so they had better coping outlets. Again, my perspective. There’s no need to come at this with a bias.

It still applies to all people. Statistically, boys are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than girls. Again, all still relevant, just going off the research. There is nothing I said in the episode that doesn't always apply to females and I did mention women as well.

Yea the shallow lack of interest in people is what I hate second to the lack of empathy and fear of retaliation for words said, of those keyboard losers.

The point was that people focus on what they are most interested in and that ADHD isn't really a medical condition as much as it is a personality type. Every has a greater focus on what interests them. Sorry if that idea got lost.
