As a Djiboutiens citizen, yes we are aware of difficult economic situation even Djibouti is one of the most expensive countries in Africa or in the world, and this problem is due to the dictature regime who is power. But as the future leaders we have always the hopes to make Djibouti the Singapore of Africa or even more. Longer life for Djibouti 🇩🇯❤️🇩🇯❤️

I wish there was video of what's in those mountain valley's. There are mountain Afar people who are generally nomads, but they actually have settled in little pockets all through the mountain ranges. There are small streams that bubble up from underground that sustain their goats and they even have a couple of cows which is very rare to have. Who knows how the cows got all the way in there. There are no roads and unless you got 4x4 and extra fuel you're not going to make it. Also, depending on the season you can find small waterfalls and green patches with rare animals like monkeys which you hardly will see in the country at all. I wish I could go back with better equipment as a tourist this time.

Hehe. Let me tell you a story. Those mountains are gorged of minerals and gold. They are mostly Afar territory and they don't like we go around sniffing. While doing some drilling work in those area, the main question that we were asked was if we are trying to get the gold. Some go as far as trying to chase us away. I honestly believe there are gold in those mountains otherwise a whole lot of people wouldn't be asking us about it. We were drilling boreholes but Americans and British are currently mining gold up in the depth of those mountains. You will never hear about it thought unless you ask the locals living in those area that have worked for them. Lord, they were paid graciously. those mine are located in places you can't reach easily. you are right about that. But as going in there as tourist....Meeeh. Full of troubles and rebels...there is a reason why they are empty. Ain't no nomads over there that are just nomads. those guys are packing....to defend against hyenas of course :-D

@@MrSousou9381 I always had a feeling Djibouti had more resources than people know. You kind of confirmed that for me a bit. I have heard whispers, but most of my friends are in Djibouti’s southern region. So yeah, totally different tribe. I remember those rebels up there too. They mined a few water sources we were trying to access. I didn’t actually see them, but we had quite a few soldiers with us on the expedition so maybe they didn’t want any action. Djiboutian government wouldn’t let us go in alone. Last I heard the rebels are all gone and were fighting in Ethiopia. Not sure if that’s true or who they’re fighting exactly. I haven’t been in the region in 14 years.

@@Don-qb1vi Hehe. No they are still here. The rebels are indiscernible from the locals in some area. They are being paid by the government for them not to cause unnecessary trouble. We were working in Tadjourah 3 years ago, Heard gunshot at night. Did not know what it was until the next morning. A military plane coming from Djibouti to drop off the cash, their salary maybe. hehe. They are not rebels. Rebels fight for a cause. those guys are mercenaries. Nothing changed in the different regions since you left the place. The capital is the only place where development is happening.

Djibouti is securing its independence. With these neighbors on all four sides and sitting right next to a strategic location, you want some powerful friends. And by inviting every great power to your country, you also make sure that none of them could try taking over, because that would piss off all the others.

There is ONE FACT Djibouti was axumites kingdom FIRST STRATEGIC PLACE before all the war it took place with arab and Portuguese war then colonials war, it was even under the Ethiopian kingdom up-untill colonialism, there were agreememts signed !!!!

I got to convoy a bunch while deployed in Djibouti. It's ultimate poverty. Almost every kid we drove by motioned for water. City of shacks near the Manhattan sized dump to get supplies.

Afars aren't a clan. They are etnic group with their own language and history. Issas howerver are Somali subclan from the larger Dir clan. You can just say Somalis and Afars.
