It’s a country culture difference mostly. The US auto makers are only worried about short term and most profits for shareholders this quarter. It is the same thing for the dealers. Asian businesses look at long term. It might not be the best today but you align for the long term and will be profitable long term. It’s a much more solid look as you want to be in business long term and it’s not a sprint rather a marathon. I have been saying this message for my entire financial professional career. Only short term time to look is when your getting ready to sell the company in the next few years. Besides that you need to look at it long term.
@dmac7128

There's a philosophy behind the way the company is run. It's called the "Toyota Way". Its based on a process improvement model called LEAN. The irony is that this is based on what the American military used for war production which they passed onto Japan in the aftermath of WWII. They took the system and adapted it to suit their values (quality, variety, low cost)
@ericfriedle456
@ericfriedle456 3 месяца назад
@@dmac7128 lean is a process to reduce costs yes. But even after lean they still make up by a percentage. Usually though lean is to make even greater margin rather than reduce the price but sometimes does result in a lower price with same margin %

Why is Toyota good? Bulletproof reliability, resell value, low depreciation. 75% of people buy a car as basic transportation, and Toyota checks all the boxes. Im suprised many other carmakers are still in business. Oh yeah, they got bailed out by the government. I've owned several brands over the past 30 years, among them Toyota. I will never buy any other brands besides Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura. They give you no troubles and they start up every time. You can just make a sudden 500 mile trip without blinking an eye. Maintenance and repair costs are also very minimal. You just cant go wrong people.

Regarding the mark-ups. My local Toyota dealer stopped doing the "Market Adjustments", but they are loading up the cars with overpriced aftermarket products and services - ceramic coat, new tires & wheels, interior protection application. I was in there last week getting a few parts and noticed $4K of extras on a Camry, $3K on a Corolla, $4.5K on a Tacoma TRD Pro 6-spd manual. I asked a salesman about those and he said they add those to all the vehicles they sell, you can't get it removed even if you 'buy' and incoming car. I'm looking to buy a new Camry and $4K extra means I'll be driving a bit farther afield to get a better deal (MSRP or less).

I saw that exact same thing yesterday at a Nissan dealership. Looking at a Frontier and everyone had a $2800 protection package added to the msrp that included paint protection, nitrogen tire, window tint etc etc. I was good with the prices until the salesman said that's included on everything they sell so it's just a way of grabbing more money. He did say that's everything is negotiable. I don't know what they would consider knocking off. I can get a decent discount on Toyota's being that I am a retired employee with absolutely no haggling over price. I guess I could try to use that as leverage at the end on a Frontier.

Its one thing to pay nose bleed prices, but its another thing to pay nose bleed prices for trash. I went with a 2023 Toyota Tacoma 3 months ago because at least I can expect to get 150k miles from it as long as I maintain it. You cant say that for everyone. Three months ago my 2016 Kia sportage engine blew on my way to work on the interstate. It had 135k miles and I changed oil every 5k miles. My co-worker had his engine blow in a 2018 Forte with 88k miles on it. I am a guy that puts 150k-220k and keeps a car 12 years. I know a lot of people trade out every 5 years but not me. I need a car thats engine and transmission will last. I dont mind replacing alternators, fuel pumps, water pumps etc but when your engine or transmission goes you are in big trouble.

It was a sunny day in 1981, I was on my way to the car dealer to pick up my new 1981 model. I drove by all the big three dealerships plenty of inventory all over the place. The VW guy had plenty of new Rabbits on the lot. I pulled into the Toyota dealer and picked up my new 1981 Toyota Celica 5 speed and proceeded to beat the spit out of it for 9 years. Then I sold it to another guy who put another 4 years on it. By the way, that Celica was the only one he had on the lot, I just gave them a check so no one else would get it. The Toyota dealer never had that much inventory on hand. I tried to buy another Toyota for my wife 6 years later? Didn't have any in stock, I bought a horrible Mitsubishi instead.

I left my house intent on buying or leasing a new vehicle. Out of a sense of LOYALTY TO A GM that no longer exists. I told the Chevy guy if he could not work a deal for me(was looking for $350 to $450 monthly the guy told no he can’t do it,the car is very popular now bla bla bla. Also with the refresh Corolla, it actually is cheaper to go around by $1200. We haven’t seen a price decrease in a model and several years. For $24,000 I got an LE hybrid. I’m averaging 60 miles per gallon. It’s the perfect commuter car. And when the forerunner becomes available, that’s what we are getting and I know I’m gonna get a good price for my 2019 Highlander that’s paid off.

No mention of Mazda? I've owned three over the years, dating all the way back to the first gen rotary RX-7 in 1979. Since then I've had a 2005 Model 3 and a 2014 Model 6. All told, 500k miles collectively with basically zero forced maintenance other than an A/C compressor on the Model 3. Just ordered a 2024 CX-50. Mazda's reliability was the deciding factor. For heavy hauling, I still have my 1995 4WD Suburban...still runs strong, but GM makes garbage now.

Toyota used to be on top for years. Hands down a better product. Their latest vehicles are less reliable with American makes catching up, but still ahead of their peers as cars are more complicated now.

In what category? I’ll say Toyota’s trucks are less reliable than they used to be, but their crossovers are leagues better than anything domestic. Also compact and midsize sedans are non existent when comes to domestics the Japanese pretty killed their competition. Doesn’t help that American sedans were trash tear products either.

New Tundra, no issues. People jump on the bandwagon just because some owners have had issues. Bought new in 22 and the only issue was the fuel line (which I asked the technician and there was no rub on my fuel line) and the tonneau cover (once again, no issues with it, Toyota just took care of a potential problem). 21 mpgs with the hybrid, truck is solid. Quite simply, if I'm going to pay an absurd amount for a vehicle, i would want the most reliable, dependable one i can get. Companies like Jeep forgot their place. They are the brand for people who accept that the vehicles will be less reliable but want an affordable but still capable SUV. They are NOT on the level of Lexus as their prices would lead one to think.

Toyota keeps a larger inventory of parts, specifically electronic parts like computer chips, screens and other item than their competitors which use a more aggressive just in time supply system for manufacturing. They didn't have the parts shortages that others had to the same extent during the pandemic. They could afford to minimize price increases related to scarcity.

My one nitpick with Toyota is that they jumped on the tech bandwagon. Screens everywhere, keyless start, touch controls everywhere, everything-by-wire, turbos for no reason, weird luxury features galore. Toyota is known for reliability but mark my words: these things will all be problems in a few years when they've aged a bit, plus it drives up the cost. There are no good manufacturers anymore.

You see Toyota drivers on the road? I don't think they know where the gas pedal is. I think that all Japanese cars are equally as reliable, my wife's used Nissan refuses to die even with no love shown, my previous Subaru was abused and kept on going, and my current Kia (Korean though) is being loved very much and hasn't had as much as a burnt lightbulb issue, after several years. I did have issues with my Jeep Wrangler in the past though, even while babying it. I'd never go back to any of the Stellantis brands CDJR. They're junk reliability in my experience
