In my opinion safer seas screams of desperation. Breaking one of their promises to us that they would never give PVE servers Which may give them a small bump in their player count for a while until those people get bored and leave the game permanently

I went from happy ready to give game a chance again to hell naw game was fun until every third person has esp and aimbot I get into groups play for month with people they open up and admit they use cheats has happened 200+ times it is as bad as tf2 or call of duty at this point you just quit cause you don’t wanna get smashed by blatant cheating or you clinch your cheeks and go for ride and end up losing your morale and move to other games company has never addressed cheating in a meaningful way solo group or invite only would remove cheats from reason not to play

I'm pro safer seas, I don't like playing games I can't walk away from. I'm an adult with a job and a family, a game needing 100% of my attention is a game I'm not going to play. FYI I haven't played SoT since season 1 for this exact reason, I'll be coming back strictly because of this.

This exactly, I also can't justify playing for a few hours when I have the time for the only point of the game to be stolen by some aggressive teenagers just waiting for me to finish a fort, I basically gave up trying to play through the Tall Tales as well because why spend all the time to get smoked doing a campaign mission. Can't wait to finally play the game lol

It's definitely providing a positive injection of players into the Steam charts, because even if safer seas isn't the "true SoT experience", it's SoT regardless. I'm a jobless loser unlike you, but still I might choose to play SoT and do a fort or something if I'm bored and don't wanna be bothered by people.

I think Safer Seas is a feature that should’ve been added awhile ago. I work full time, as well as have a productive life and sometimes I just wanna jump on SoT undisturbed, exploring etc. PvP happens then my 1-2 hours of just chilling will be turned in to me leaning forward to sweat a battle I don’t want to be included in but have no choice as most SoT players are relentless. It’s a mode I know I will be playing when I just wanna chill, but high seas when I want some competition. It’s a nice moment for people to just chill with friends, explore and even for new players learn the mechanics and gameplay. Nearly every PvP open world games have PvE servers and in my opinion it is really late to get one for SoT but glad it’s happening overall as I can have more time playing then raging after hours of nothing and go play a different game for 2 weeks.

I 100% agree. I am already a pirate legend; I already run Athena's voyages. I don't want to get bullied and spawn camped by a bunch of shrieking gremlins after a 14 hour shift and I come home, see my kids, get them to bed, and try to relax on a game for the night. Definitely understand the level 40 restriction and reduced loot rates... - but don't care, either. Receiving any money at all to buy cosmetics and things on the high seas servers later without the annoyances is HUGE.
@duggy92
@duggy92 Год назад
@@LiquidCaffeine There a lot of frustration coming from PvP which I can agree on, I just had a recent one where I was solo and played for 4 hours undisturbed, had a good amount of loot etc. I go to the nearest point to sell my loot only to be watched by a 4 man team until I noticed a Row boat comes in with 3 people on it. They all rush me with shotguns and swords and obviously kill me as it caught me of guard once I saw them on the island. Then 2 people camp my boat and constantly kill me whilst the other guy is selling my loot that took me 20 minutes to get off my ship. Then the 4th brings the ship and starts to sink mine but I already left the game by that point when I saw it. I think imma just wait for this update as that wasn’t fun for me to be gank like that. I’ve always said PvP is so unbalanced in this game, but the unfairness was real. It is definitely a mode I can’t wait for, need some relaxing time where I don’t get annoyed at something I love to play which is also why I stopped playing many games in the past, as frustrating isn’t fun.
@LiquidCaffeine
@LiquidCaffeine Год назад
@@duggy92 This has happened to me, my friends, and my younger siblings when they tried to play. The unbalanced / bullying antics of these griefers is horrible, and drives players away from the game. Whilst I completely understand that PvP players may be upset because there is "less PvP"... IS THERE REALLY, though? Preying on 1-2 man squads with your fully crewed galleon against players and kids that can't - or won't - fight back... is hardly PvP! Super excited for these new servers.
@duggy92
@duggy92 Год назад
@@LiquidCaffeine 100% agree as one of my friends completely stopped playing about 2 years ago as he hated the PvP of the game and he had too many games where he didn’t want to PvP, even had the white flag up. He quit after being chased for 45 minutes only to be Kraken and then sunk by that exact team. I always have a rule set on PvP and if I’m chasing a ship for a good 5 minutes then I abandon chasing them as I assume they don’t wanna PvP and unfortunately for a lot of players I prefer a proper PvP fight and not one to chase people who can’t fight. I’ve even been chased and harassed for over an hour by one team, I just ended up sailing in to the Red Sea and leave my ship sailing full speed whilst I AFK making food as that how much I couldn’t care to fight. Ended up taking a week break. Truly players are the reason why the game loses it popularity month after month as new players come in get harassed and go back to CoD or something.

Honestly, i like the safer seas thing, cause every single time ive even TRIED to log in and play, ive been spawn killed till i logged out. Seriously. The only time i havent is when i got a crew and then we'd get a couple chests, then get blown away by an entire huge group of assholes. So i havent even got to learn the BASICS of the game. It's a toxic community that also has justification for their behavior built in to the game. I am so tired of hearing "Well its not Sea of Friends!" Like yeah I get that but it also doesn't mean you have to be a massive sweatlord all the time, I remember playing Halo 3 and people being super helpful and kind to newer players, SoT has none of that I my experience. I would like to learn how to PVP but I haven't even had the chance because of things like Chainshot instantly making fighting back pretty much impossible for a newer solo player.

PVE seas are also a great idea for younger families. The kids can have fun adventures with the freedom to make mistakes that won't affect other players and the parents can relax knowing that there won't be a chance of "trash" talking/camping from the more salty players....SOT is a great game...As a family of four, we have a lot of fun as a crew!

Many of those players will eventually transition to High Seas as they want to get to Pirate Legend, experience pvp, etc. As it gets them hooked, they will want to go past the limitations of Safe Seas. I don't see any way it can end up being a negative to the game. High Seas will end up being better for it in the long term as Safe Seas helps to grow the player base.

As someone who has invited friends over the years to play.. Safe Seas is huge. Having the ability take 3 new players out and teach them the game without the dead weight in combat early on is awesome. They can learn to Sail and operate ships properly, how to do the various voyages and other basic mechanics. Also Tall Tales being doable here is awesome as its great content that can be easily ruined by a PvP heavy server.

IDK man, learning against actual people is what made the game so fun for me and my friends. It also allows you to pick up on how to get better when you get dumpstered by experienced players. From a new player perspective, literally i have like 4-5 hours in game. My literal first experience consisted of 15-20 of loading my boat up with all the stuff in the barrels, no idea where to start quests or whatever. I manage to pull out of the island maybe 100ft and immediately get sunk by another boat. As a first experience not gonna lie it was like wtf. This happened a few times. I looked for an option to do pve only, but there wasnt one. Having no idea what ur doing and simply fighting to get out to sea without getting destroyed sucks. If i wasnt really interested in the game i would have uninstalled and never looked back. So take that for what u will. I could easily see how other new ppl would quit.

Next game I was in there for about half an hour and was just sailing around not a clue what to do and got repeatedly sunk by a group who just kept following and were constantly trying to hit on me as they killed me over and over. It's a super frustrating game to get into because of that and I bet they lose a lot of potential new players because the servers are just open with no sort of match making. If you were to spawn into servers with people around the same skill level as you it wouldn't be such an issue but someone with 5 minutes of game time will get put with someone with 10k hours, thats not a fun or fair fight.

Honestly I think this is a good direction, they brag about how many millions of pirates have started and how many pirate legends they have but they always leave out that only 30% of those numbers are still actively playing. They waited far too long to address the overly toxic nature of players even making jokes about it and it turned off a LOT of people from the game. Dozens of content creators have done videos talking about it and showing how people talk (even featured on this channel quite a lot) and some of the highest liked comments are people talking about "this is why I quit". They stealth launched the in-game reporting feature which should have been one of the focus points and not something tacked on at the end. PVE is the only thing thats going to save this game now because you know damn good and well the "pirate emporium" they shove down out throats every season isn't making enough money to cover making these updates with the low player numbers.

Personally, I detest any variation of PvP. But I was a Beta Tester for SoT and my son got the game for me anyway. I gave it a go for a bit. The nail in the coffin last time was having a ship pull up to attack me(annoying but fact of life in main servers)...Their battle cry was "W**** Power!". Immediately ALT+F4, uninstall and forbade my son from continuing to play the game. To me, PvP has always attracted that kind of mindset, along with Keyboard Warrior Bullies who live to cause others grief. An option for PvE has been something I've been wanting since the beginning, personally because I don't like having my fun/entertainment dependent on other people, but also the absolutely toxic aspect of other players.

Exactly, people over state the significance PvP has on the already over the top grind. I've been playing since the pre-launch betas (less often in recent years mind) and I couldn't give 2 shits if people want to earn everything in PvE anymore. The ones in game that have most/all the cosmetics and millions upon millions of gold, and all the commendations usually aren't even that good at PvP, so it's not like the cosmetics they've earned represents player skill. All it represents is how much time they've spent playing the game... Anybody that gives a shit needs to stop living perpetually online.

tl;dr - Rare should add PVE servers (with very minor restrictions) or they shouldn't at all. Safer Seas is a half measure that I don't think is going to have the effect they want. I have seen all the arguments against PVE servers over the years, and I appreciate them all (well, not all; a lot of people are super toxic about it), but I think Rare should either just do PVE servers, or not do them. I want PVE servers, unrestricted, and I'll never not want that. I've got probably 100hrs in the game, and I've so rarely had a good experience with other crews that I mostly just don't bother playing at all anymore. I play because I like the chill vibes, the ship mechanics, the missions, and all that with the dopamine of watching the numbers go up on my gold and reps. Safer Seas isn't going to bring me back to the game. I'm not yet a pirate legend, but I'm 40+ on those three main factions. But I don't play because 50-60% of the time I, as a solo slooper, get run down by a shoot-on-sight galleon. It's just not fun for me. And then I'M being toxic because I will make them chase me and act like I have something to lose to waste their time. I think there should be a place for people like me to play, and like you said, PVPers should WANT me out of the way. I'm never going to play this game for the PVP. It's too much boarding and bunny hopping and hoping you get good hit reg before the other guy does. I think if I could play on a server where the only change was that the Reapers emissary was removed I'd come back. Get rid of that incentive to JUST go rob people, that might be enough to lure me in. But really I think there should be servers for PVE players that aren't private, so folks who want to either chill alone and not worry, or go group for Forts or whatever, can do so. They could still have some restrictions, like not including the most recent events on the safe servers, maybe a less heavy gold/rep penalty, whatever. I just don't think Safer Seas is it. Like do the thing or don't do it. This 'just the tip' approach I don't think is going to have the effect they want. The one caveat to ALL this is that I, like you, think all the Tall Tales should be instanced. Like as soon as you start one you get put on your own private server. So look, I'm fine if this game isn't for me. That's always what I see people say on forums or YT comments, "well then maybe this game isn't for " but usually in a meaner way. But I think Safer Seas is going to lure people into a false sense of security, and as soon as they go to High Seas for better PVE rewards, they're going to quit soon after because they can't do the thing they like doing without getting harassed by PVPers. Just my two cents, or shit I guess it's probably 4 or 5 cents for how long this comment is... My bad.

In 2018 I was super excited for Sea of Thieves. Then I played it. I have a real life job, I do not make a living playing a game. I don’t have the time to be master being a video game pirate. I quit playing because I could not accomplish the simplest of things after twenty minutes in game because of the people who have all day every day to devote to the game. I hate PVP in general on all games because I can’t keep up with the lifers. Hated Sea of Thieves in the end, because I can’t compete with these people and found no enjoyment from always having my ass handed to me and never being able to progress because most people on the servers are bored with the game and have more fun ruining other peoples experience. All those people in chat complaining about safer seas, some people don’t want to play against others that have 3k + hours that cheese against you and ruin your enjoyment of the game, causing new players to leave bad reviews, refund the game, and bigger picture for the game to not grow. Your community has SoT player is so small and dwindled bringing PvE to the stand-alone will bring in a lot of old players and new ones. Which means more support for the game you love and play, plus if you’re really that bothered by it, you’re the same guy with 3k + hours that bully new ships and think you’re good at the game, and mad because all players will most likely be the same skill level as you now 😂😂😂 . Adding standalone PvE will make the game healthier stop being a hive mind

The only thing about safe seas I disagree with you on is rare needing to look at commendations. All the PVP ones are already out because you can't interact with pvp content. Restricting PVE commendations further serves no purpose as their only barrier of acquisition is time and if on high seas, other people. If the complaint is it devalues them, there's nothing to devalue, you're going to get the one you're going after either way. The story tied to how you got it is either a safe sea adventure, a high-stakes PVP interaction, or a white sail griefer calling you the N-word repeatedly.

My idea is a higher more dangerous seas server you can opt to load into. Gold will be increased 130-150% more boats and players in server. No alliances can be formed no tall tales in server and change some damage modifers for fighting. As for guilds I think they could use a leaderboard system where top % recieve a cosmetic of somekind. Gold earned can progress guild. Maybe cosmetics could go to a guild hideout or something

As a new player I love the thought of Safer Seas, it gives us a chance to learn the ropes without being griefed by people with thousands of hours. Nobody actually pays mind to the code to respect new players, they just see you as a target and that is incredibly discouraging to new players. If they implimented a server system that doesnt put a brand new player in a server with players with thousands of hours then it wouldn't be an issue really. I got griefed until I left the server within 5 minutes of being in game. The dude boarded my boat before I even got to it upon spawning in and killed me on repeat until I left. That's how the game is for new players. 30% is a pretty massive cut and level 40 isn't nothing for a new player, not at all. I have probably 30 hours in the game now and I'm not there yet, for an experienced player yeah you could do level 40 quick but new players don't really know what they're doing to get it and with a 30% cut and no emissary that's going to be a slow grind.

If that were the case, many people wouldn't see the need to participate in pvp elements at all. Half the point of safer seas is to ease people into the controls as they eventually either hit the cap or get bored of the slow grind and start taking the riskier main game for the massively increased rewards, and their learning and participation (and perhaps enjoyment) would come as a result of that

Safer Seas is going to extend the life of this game. Having semi-capable people being more concentrated on the High Seas will mean less dead space and more full feeling servers. Plus, there will still be the utterly clueless people from time to time that don't even know the difference between High and Safer Seas. For the people complaining that now the servers will be even more sparse - you may not understand the way the servers get populated in the first place. This should INCREASE the number of ships you see out and about actually functioning on the High Seas. Cheers, pirates.

More players = good It doesn't really matter if they spend extra hours on servers with limited loot. Safe seas will lower the entry curve to this game. Which will result in more stuff to steal later. Imagine logging on and not knowing how voyages work or the advantages and disadvantages behind pistol, sword, shotgun, sniper. You probably don't even know what a sword charge is. Then after you struggle for 3 hours to get 1 gold hoarder voyage done, some golden skeleton comes along and takes all your stuff. That isn't going to incentive many to come back and play. Eventually people will get bored of a limited PvE mode and will want to try the real mode. Allowing newbies to figure out the basics is a very smart move

Guarantee the devs can see a massive drop in players after the 2-3 hour mark of time played, likely with a player death. It's also going to make open crews better because you're not going to get thrown onto a ship with players who have no idea what they're doing, and haven't even set up their mic.

I want to act surprised that most of the community is upset about safer seas but it doesn't surprise me in the least. I'm one of those players who wants to enjoy the game but I truly hate the PVP aspect. I understand it is fundamentally built into the game hence why I don't play it anymore. Personally I hate playing for multiple hours just to lose it all to people with thousands of hours who do it just to kill and steal. I get it, that's the point of the game and people find enjoyment in that. But many people don't. The game has been on such a steady decline because people buy the game, run into sweat lords, die and refund/uninstall and don't touch it again. Safer seas is a good step into the door, but removing the PVP doesn't solve anything other than people finding momentary fun in the game then uninstalling because solo is boring but PVP is unbearable. Ideally for me with how much enjoyment there is in the open world events, skele ship battles, flame heart fleet. I feel if they made a full PVE experience where it has all the same amount of players, but you cant damage each other/touch other peoples stuff on boats (unless captain has permissions set to allow it) and just double-triple down on world events and random encounters it would be so much fun. Make it so the sea is the dangerous part and not so much the thieves anymore. That is just my 2 cents though.

The commendation deal is the same with other games. It’s kind of a gate-keeping attitude if it bothers you that much. Like for me, there are things I earned in SoT, years ago. But honestly it was easier to earn back then. Like kraken and all of the Megs..there weren’t many events happening so you were likely to get kraken’d or simply hunt the Meg you needed. Is it, then, less fair to the others who have to fight off a larger player base AND all the events that rotate all the time to get achievements and commendations? As long as the game stays healthy I say who cares?
@Emelenzia
@Emelenzia 11 месяцев назад
I feel the real consequence of Safer Sea more so impacts PVP over PVE. Reality is SoS is design around predator and prey, experience players hunting down players who are inept at the game and would only run away. If you remove the prey from SoS I am confident that most PVP would lose interest. You seen this with many other games. Where predators don't enjoy fighting other predators, and will actively exploit the game to avoid running into them so they can exclusively farm bad players. I think it comes down to how many preys stick to Safer Seas. If majority of prey are just happy vibing in Safer Seas, I could see see pvp falling apart which ultimately result in Rare focusing on entirely catering to prey players.

This is what is known to happen; The PvP players are "wolves", the PvE players are "sheep". Sheep eat grass (PvE content), Wolves eat Sheep. Sheep get tired of getting eaten all the time because there are no downsides/penalties to PvP and go to greener pastures. Wolves dont want to kill other wolves (no matter how much they profess otherwise) and get bored and leave. Over time, the game caters more and more to PvE players as they are usually the larger portion of the playerbase ANYWAY. Within 6 months of Safer Seas, you're going to see a true PvE option created alongside the PvP one that is going to be far less restricted than what we are seeing. Its that or watch the game choke and die on its own toxicity. Evolve or Die is whats going to happen here. Personally, I never picked up sea of thieves BECAUSE of the unrestricted PvP - if I want to fight other players that's what games like CoD or TF2 are for. Once safer seas comes out I'll be tempted to check it out...but I'm not sure I will as long as they're gonna restrict PvE so heavily. May wait and see if what I've predicted comes to pass OR if it goes on sale on steam. ;)

I wish the servers had a match making system, it would make it way more encouraging for new players because instead of someone loading in for the first time being put into a server with you for example they would be with people who make it a fair fight. I love that the game's weapon system keeps the playing field even by making it so there's not like an OP gun you can just buy and it's exclusive and hard to get but that's kind of a moot point when I have 5 minutes of play time and you have 10,000 hours and I can encounter you. It would also allow people who are of your level to have a more lively experience in servers. I'm not sure how they'd impliment it, maybe achievements and levels I'm not sure, but it would be cool.

They are mad about the idea of "Safer Seas" because they won't be able to screw up other, normally peaceful players experience in the game. I really need a peaceful and relaxing mode to play the game. But the Open Seas are not exactly good, especially if we run into cheaters, which can happen too. :/ From my point of view, gaming should be relaxing and not stressful, but when they chase me just to sink my ship and farm kill me on respawn, and they don't even take our loot, that's when I say, fuck it, I want an "offline" option with just friends. Forts should be definitely the part of Safer Seas, as it is mostly PVE, and not PVP. What I don't undestand is that, if the goal is to "bring closer to everyone in the game" why don't they make a common enemy which we can encounter but together? Without the possibility to kill each other. Just Players vs. Enemy. Yes you heard it. I want PVE. Just like in World of Warcraft when we went on raids. God, 25 players raids were the best online experience I had. When we freakin worked as a team, solved the bosses tactic, and managed to take them down. Nothing was better than that. Sadly, WoW is very different these days, so I would really love this kind of way to play in SoT.

I think that part of the reason that Safer Seas is being added is a kind of scramble to appeal to the disgruntled players. For a while, Sea of Thieves has really been the de facto pirate game, so those players despite not liking the game so much, did not have many pirate game choices. Now, however, Skull and Bones is on the horizon and I think Rare are scrambling to earn back player trust before it’s release. This may not really the case, just a suspicion I have. Peace

I just like to play the game to farm gold. It is relaxing, I guess. I've always wanted to do the tall tales, but I've been afraid of running into players who'd cuck my experience. I am someone who would be completely fine if this was a coop game in a PVE mode where I could earn and do everything that high sea players can do, but I understand that isn't the premise of the game. It would be nice if they had another mode for that, but it doesn't transfer over to high seas. We'd have to completely create a new save file.

I agree that a solo mode for newer players to learn the game and do Tall Tales is needed and probably healthy in the long run for the community in general. But what I dont understand is why they introduced this new gamemode, instead of just finally flushing out the custom private servers? Custom servers have ALREADY been in the works for years, and criminally underdeveloped since they were first announced as being a WIP. Why not just put in the legwork into finally flushing those out, and then tweaking the progression allowances, rather than making something completely new and separate? Not only would custom servers fill the niche of letting new players learn the ropes in a quieter environment, but they are also necessary for so many other parts of the community, including roleplayers and people wanting to hold custom events and make different PvP gamemodes.

I honestly don't think the commendations should be a huge problem. Most of the coms in the game are extremely overinflated boring tasks that requires metric buttloads of nonstop grinding. You can't do Athena/Legendary coms, you can't do Reaper Coms, you can't do emissary coms, and you can't do any other coms that require specific things like throwing puke mid battle, stealing loot, etc. The only coms you'll be able to do are the massively grindy boring ones, the Tall Tale ones (hopefully), and the exploration based ones. You need to get better priorities if you think catching 500 of the same fish BUT WITH PVP ENABLED despite never seeing another player on the sea due anyways gives you any amount of clout.

really not sure why this is hard for some people to understand. MMO's have fixed this issue years ago. not everyone enjoys being ganked and trolled by pvp players. a large portion of people just want to pve in peace. give us server lists. not hard to understand. a set that is only pve (no caps or penalties). a set for pvp (no caps or penalties). and the normal ones we have that is mixed. with YOU GUESSED IT! no caps... and no penalties. if you ACTUALLY think about the pros and cons of server lists there literally is no reason to not have them. Pve players want to be separate from the activities that involve player vs player actions. so they aren't going to be adding ANYTHING good to your game play experience. AT BEST you will just kill a bunch of "bot like" people for easy looting. which is going to make your time less fun and give you less of the content you enjoy. (unless again you just want easy kills and loot). on the other side when you want to just be in the world and can't because some jerk off wants to kill you for easy loot it sours the fun. leading to huge player drop off. and in time the death of an other wise fun game. there is zero reason to punish pve players because they don't enjoy pvp content. there should be no caps or restrictions to gold, xp, level, reputation, etc. why should fortes not be included? that's pve content at its core. it functions perfectly well if you take out the pvp element. Rebalance its rewards and difficulty sure, but take it out? certainly not. as said in the video if you let people PICK what they want to do.... everyone has a much better time and walks away feeling like they got good value for time. let pvp players be with other pvp players. that will make it more competitive!!!! and will feel better and more rewarding!!! and let the pve players be with the pve players... literally the ONLY people who loose are the ass wipes who want to get easy rewards and gold by killing less skilled or unaware people. and to be frank those people deserve to have their fun ruined for a change. i feel no sympathy towards them for their "lose". the only issue i have with this new system is that its restricted for no good reason. and punishes people who just want to be in this amazing world without the ass hats. THAT is what is upsetting. that's what feels unfair.

Im a casual non-pvp'er and i've always wanted a solo/private server, so im really happy. I mainly wanted peaceful servers for fishing and tall tales. Theres really only two things i have problems with with this #1 is that i wish they could let there be more than 1 ship per server, im not saying raise the layer cap from 4, only let those players seperate if they want. #2 is the lower rep gains. there's a cap on level which is fine (you shouldn't get PL in the private servers) but making it to where you're capped at 40 AND 30% rep is bad. The rep grind for hunters is already a nightmare as it is.

I'm not great at PVP, but having the anxiety of other players coming for my loot is what makes this game fun (for me). That said, once I had covid and all I wante to do was fish and listen to my audiobook, and I kept getting rumbled for my trophy splashtails.
@dirtybaker

This! I've been saying the same. The anxiety of wondering if other players are lurking around is unmatched to any other game. Rushing to sell your loot. I won't touch Safer Seas...ever. And I'm a noob.
@isibelld
@isibelld Год назад
And for me that anxiety is the reason I stopped playing all together. I have enough anxiety from my daily life, I don't need it from a game. It's just not fun for me. I just want to do the tall tales, and maybe hang out and fish or run around and dig up treasure and just putz around. Why am I forced to do that while constantly watching my back for players that are far to offten toxic aholes. It woldn't even be so bad if the people coming at me were at least kind about it (no toxic chat or spawn camping or any of the other bull sheet). But soooooo very often they are just dbags. Safer Seas measns I can come back to the game and play in some really fun and facinating lore, and I'm not getting in the way of people that do want to kill, pillage, and loot. The whole things seems like a win win to me.

I stopped playing because me and my wife were being destroyed any time we just wanted to chill and sail around together. Nothing on our ship, just sailing and fishing and people come blow us up, then hunt us down over and over. That's why people have wanted a PvE mode, and that's one of the things that has constantly pushed people away from even playing the game. Having this mode will increase the player count over time. There is no reason to be angry about this except for not being able to just stomp on people just trying to chill.

Skip safer seas - Instead!!! Loot value is instantly received when picked up at 50% -if you turn in you get the remainder -if lost to another player they get the 50% -players actively in tall tale cannot be targeted but cannot sell items or progress in any way other than the tall tale… Mischief managed.

I'm gonna be honest, I gotta agree with the idea of safer seas players not taking up valuable server space that could be occupied by someone actually doing something meaningful. I also agree that fort of fortune definitely should not be in safer seas. But, and this might be a hot take, I think fort of the damned being in safer seas is fine. Firstly, I think when they hit level 40, players in safer seas should get a quest that essentially teaches them how to activate the fort of the damned. Secondly this gives them the opportunity to learn how to beat the fort of the damned. And lastly, since they can't get Athena rep in safer seas, completing a quest for the fort of the damned will kind of serve as like a graduation to the high seas and give players incentive to switch over and start going for pirate legend and Athena rep. One of the biggest problems with FOTD has always been that the activation requirements kinda feels like doing chores to the average veteran player. And when the fort is up, one of two things happens. Either some noobs struggle with it for like 2 hours, possibly even giving up, while veteran players tuck on the island waiting to kill them even if they succeed. We've all done it, stealing and being a pirate is fun. But you know what's not fun, sitting in your tuck spot for 2+ hours just to steal something that would take you 15 minutes to do by yourself. Which is the second thing that happens with the fort. Veteran players stack the fort and kill it on repeat every 15-20 minutes while 1 guy from their crew circles the island looking for tucks. So honestly, let the new players learn how to do it on safer seas, and when they realize they can only reap the rewards in high seas, the rest of us will be rewarded with people actually doing worthwhile content.

@merylsmith8297
@merylsmith8297 Год назад
Achievements are called such because theyre supposed to be something youve...achieved. If you cant see that some of the commendations in the game would be completely trivialized by having them available in solo play, then I really dont know what to tell you. Not everyone who criticizes the idea of solo servers is looking to gank players - the idea that people regularly and specifically camp out areas to stop people from doing commendations is a complete fabrication. That being said, Tall Tales and related commendations for those should ALWAYS have been instanced. And a good handful of reputation levels in the factions doesnt really change gameplay much whatsoever. But most of the commendations related to turning in loot are fundamentally tied into the idea of obtaining loot being a risk in and of itself - it is literally the core of the entire game design. I understand there is a valid need for solo play in certain instances - but saying that everyone who points out equally valid criticisms of the trivialization of play is "just a toxic pvper wanting to kill noobs" is the height of strawman. Rare was very clear that the entire point of Safer Seas is supposed to be for new players to learn the game. All the restrictions on gold/rep rates and the level cap reinforce that idea. So why should people be able to use that gamemode to cheese other aspects of the game? If you are grinding commendations, you have long since learned enough about the game that you should have outgrown the spirit of Safer Seas.

i think its fine to have tall tale commendations and such but some need to be exclusive to high seas like the 100 gold vault commendation, people have to work there butt off to get it, so imagine how they feel when rare makes it insanely easy after they completed it, you will feel like you have wasted your time, cosmetics and achievements need value or this game is pointless, this game is cosmetic based, if no cosmetics have have value, might as well just not play since its a waste of time. good luck getting your gold curse tho

Great take on all the things coming. I must say I love the idea of safer sea I like PVP like the next guy but me and friends playing from South Africa its not fun playing at like 240ms Ping on the EU servers it is very very frustrating and 400 plus when I join my American friends. If they can add servers for us like to Dubai or even ZA server then sure don't care much for safer seas but at the moment that for me is kind of a positive. I agree they must remove the Forts cause people can just stack them over and over again(on safer seas). Just my opinion, but great video overall PACE.

meh. everyones not mad. hardcore players that for the most part have drove away the idea of a casual fanbase to the game are the ones mad. and let them be. the game itself is fantastic. but could be a massive success right now given the pirate craze netflix started with bringing one piece to the casual audience. the same guys who dont want a photomode or camera option because; "cameras didnt exist back then", and the ones who dont see a glaring balance issue that a 3 man brig can run laps around a 1 man sloop with fantastic rebuttals that consist of variations of; "gEt gUd". The biggest issue sea of thieves have isnt the bugs, balance changes, or modes added...its that most of its players that stick with it dont want the game to grow, they would rather it stay the same or get more in line to benefit their playstyle & that devs should cater updates to that, forcing new less vocal players, to just leave rather than try to adapt which is what they get told in the forums. Safer seas will hopefully fix it. but lets be 100% honest with ourselves. since launch(and yes ive been there since before day 1), constructive criticisms that could have helped this game be even more successful than it is today have been overshadowed by the vocal minority. Most people dont spend 100s of hours on a game. they work all day, go to school, take care of children etc..and squeeze in a few hours when they can. & with that being the majority, those are the people Rare needs to please, because those are the ones with the game pass subs, and are spending money on stuff they dont have time to earn.

for the commendation thing.. its fine if people can earn their tall tales commendations etc. in safe seas but dont give them access to unlocking curses / certain cosmetics / titles that are loved by the community. They gotta earn that the "hard" way. Maybe even give safe seas its own couple commendations people can earn to unlock something worth while and make them excited about going into high seas and start unlocking stuff. Also ofcourse no Shrouded Ghost encounters!! not that we can encounter it in high seas anyways but you know what i mean 😅

Heck I wouldn't mind if you let players get to Pirate Legend in Safer Seas but imo people will still happily bite the bullet and take the 70% hit and earn all sorts of commendations etc. I don't know if its healthy for the game for the developers to draw a physical line in the sand after so long and also saying they won't do what they are now doing.
