Seeing out his final year at Ferrari after being dumped over the winter, in need of surgery during the second race weekend of 2024, still unemployed for next year - and now the driver who has ended Max Verstappen’s early season domination. This is a weird time to be Carlos Sainz.
The driver Ferrari’s abandoned has had a great start to the season either side of having his appendix removed. But he still doesn’t know where he’ll be racing in 2025.
That’s despite being the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race in the last 18 months or so.
Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner joked that Sainz “appears to be our nemesis”. Well, Christian, there’s one way to stop him from stopping you winning. Sign him!

My prediction is that Sainz will replace Alonso at Aston Martin and Perez will lose his seat to Lawson and end up at RB with the chance of getting back to his seat if Lawson doesn't perform. Antonelli will take Hamilton's seat at Mercedes and will be the youngest driver ever. I think Riccardo will be out of F1 again but this time I don't see him returning. I can also see Sargent losing his seat if Williams can afford to replace him. Maybe they will risk another Rookie (Pourchaire perhaps???) but doubt they will want to take the risk (not be able to secure him) and will opt for an experienced driver, maybe Alonso who will be out of a seat??? However I see it more likely it will be Magnuson who will lose his seat to Bearman. I think we will see Alonso retire for good at the end of this season.

@@krishnabharadwaj4403 Not surprised. But they are shills. I mean, their F1 coverage on the sporting side only is good, but they are on the take so as soon as it comes to their sponsors (and the main sponsors of the sport) they throw out any little piece of journalistic integrity they thought they had. The problem is that they think it has to be like that since traditional journalism is dying and these guys still have bills to pay. I get that part, I will just never ever understand why you can't be more picky about your sponsors and grow some balls when it comes to the atrocities committed by some of the places they go to cover the sport.

I agree, I love Ferrari, but the car company owner hurry to bring in Lewis was a bit outsmarting for themselves. Lewis is really fast but Sainz lacks nothing. I think at this point Max wouldn't be as defensive to having a guy across the garage that could give him a run for his money in equal equipment as he was earlier in his career. Max is now focused on simply being the best to ever do it, or at least on the Mt Rushmore. Sainz is the level of driver that Max would feel comfortable beating most weeks but would win enough races that Max would get way more credit for beating him over the course of the season. When it comes down to discussions about who is the greatest F1 driver one thing that always comes up when drivers have a dominant car is how did they compare against their teammate & what sort of teammate did they have.

I don't normally C+P from my other replies, but I will make an exception since so many people are questioning why there are criticisms of Checo. I'd say after last year, it's warranted. Let me do that C+P for you gents: Yes, Checo finished second. Now, here are some facts that will paint that P2 in a less glowing light: Checo had 2 wins, Max had 19. Checo has 2 poles vs. 12 from Max. Checo was off of the podium in 12 races, Max was off of it in 1. Checo ended the season with HALF the points of Max. That's one of the worst head to head stats of any team in 2023, certainly of a top team. So yeah, he by definition under performed. Had the RB not been such an amazing car last year, Max would still have won but Checo would almost certainly not have been second such was his performance gap. He is almost 300 points short of Max's haul but there is "only" about 80 points down to 6th from him... And nah, I am not a Max fan but I do like facts. Checo scraped by to P2 last year in the most dominant machinery the sport of have seen. That's underperforming.

Unpopular opinion: Sainz wins have never been achieved due to pure driving and he's currently over rated due to those wins. Lemme elaborate; at Silverstone 2022, Max got damage and wasn't able to fight for the win. Charles got fucked by the strategy and also wasn't able to truly fight due to his tires. Checo came p2 but he also endured damaged during the race and even dropped to the back of the grid at one point. Singapore 2023: Max and Checo were unable to even get to Q3 due to the terrible balance of the car, making it the second time where Sainz gets a win and Max can't compete. Furthermore, Charles was told very early on to hold positions and create a gap to Carlos, essentially keeping Carlos safe. Australia 2024: Max retires, making it the third of Carlos wins where Max can't compete. Again, Charles is asked to hold position and not attack Carlos. Checo get penalized and also get's a bit of damage so he also can't compete. So what am I really saying? Is Carlos a bad driver? NO. I'm just saying his wins are far less impressive if you consider that 1) The biggest challenger (Max) is out of the race 2. Charles either is not allowed to attack or can't due to tire strategy and 3. The second Redbull (Checo) is also hampered due to balance or damage. If he can challenge Max on track and win, I'll get on the hypetrain.

That's incorrect. If you only take the races where both Max and Carlos finished, it would be 26 vs 15 points in Verstappen's favor. Also, Verstappen scored 2x 4th places that year, whilst Carlos never managed higher than 7th once. Most of the times Carlos DNF'd, Verstappen was in front of him. (5 out of 7) That season, Max was 514 laps ahead of Carlos, whilst Carlos was 371 laps ahead of Max. Lastly, Verstappen was a 17 year old with only 1 season of F3 experience, whilst Carlos was a 20 year old with 5 years of single seater experience. If anything, Carlos should've dominated Verstappen, but everybody saw very clearly who the better driver was. I mean, what is preventing RB from signing Carlos? Young, now has experience in other teams, which he adapted to any car he was given. Proven he can fight with talented teammates. Already knows the RB family. Already worked with Max. It's free to sign with them. He has a friendly personality, every teammate so far only talks wonders on how well they get along with Carlos. The only reason I see is either they want to put a clause he will not accept (be the second driver and can't bother Max). Or Helmut is scared Sainz is not going to be a lapdog like Checo, which would devalue his favorite driver (Max). And of course, the fight between teammates that might happen if Sainz indeed proves he's not as bad as Helmut likes to say in the press. But if they are willing to sign Alonso (as the rumors say), which he will for sure cause problems inside the team if RB does anything remotely looking like they are benefiting Max. I don't see why Carlos is being sidelined ever since he left RB to grow as a driver. To the point when there was a seat available in the main team, and he was doing great in McLaren, they still said if he comes back he has to go to Alpha Tauri.

This will definitely piss Max off, seeing Carlos as his closest competitor even not being an RB yet. Give him as good as his car, this will likely be the biggest threat to his domination.

Sainz is going to Redbull? I think Horner doesn't have much of a say in this. He might be sacked. Unless Marko & Jos agree, Sainz can't join RBR again. But it MIGHT be a good strategy to get Sainz in as a deterrent against Max leaving. If Max knows RBR has a driver that can win in his car, he will think long and hard before choosing to leave.

If you want to make Max uncomfortable, sure. Go ahead and sign Carlos. The reliable formula to keep winning when you have your clear no.1 driver is to have a clear no.2 driver. Carlos is not a bonafide no.1 but he isn't a no.2 either.

Tsunoda will never go to Red Bull alongside Max. He seems like a good guy and definitely has potential, but his temper and lack of discipline would be terrible as a clear number 2 driver. To me, Sainz seems like the best option for Red Bull by far. I just don’t know if it would be the best choice for Sainz. We’ve already seen how difficult it is to drive alongside Max in a car that is so suited to Max’ driving style. I feel like he might underperform in the car, throwing a major shadow on his career and future opportunities. I hope he finds a team that suits him and can offer him a race winning car.

No way Max would be able to put up with his antics, you’re right. He’s got attitude problems and is inconsistent, he’s a midfield driver atm

The toxic atmosphere probably didn’t come from their entourage. If Helmut said that it was probably him that was causing the issues based on just what that guy gets quoted saying.

RB would be insane not to consider El Cartero (because he always delivers)

In elite teams and current champions, no matter who is the teammate; The Patron is given the best settings and prevalence; Its been like that for decades; Schumacher-barrichello, Vettel-Riccardo, Hamilton-botas and now Verstappen-Perez; going against the selected one is nowadays almost -impossible- unless this predilection changes, results would always be the same winners, year by year.

Even without Max having an issue in Melbourne, it was clear that Redbull had an issue with their cars over the weekend. Whatever Perez's problems might have been since 2023, yesterday's race was poor for Redbull. Max had already been overtaken by Sainz before his issues caused him to retire. There is no doubt that Max would have had a quiet race behind Sainz, if not even beaten by Leclerc and Lando.

He'd be the perfect addition to Red Bull. Outside their first year together, it feels like he's consistently out performed Leclerc in the races. I haven't looked up the stats, but I bet it's really close.

This seems plausible only if every race in the season goes like this for Sainz (not necessarily a win)
