A new forecast from Colorado State University says the upcoming hurricane season could be "extremely active." Scientists are expecting 23 named storms, with 11 of them being hurricanes. Alex DesRosiers, co-author of the forecast, joins CBS News to explain the findings and discuss which regions could see the most activity.

It frustrates me how many people in the comments say "This say this every year" or "they're trying to push their narrative". Last year, they literally predicted less than average hurricanes! In truth, they are predicting hurricanes based on historical patterns and conditions. This year has a RECORD warm atlantic + La Nina pattern = MORE hurricanes. It's as if people can't fully comprehend the clear hypothesis presented in this video. At the end of the day anything can happen and these are forecasts.

Although it may seem out of this world but the sea surface temperatures are above normal which MIGHT be good powering up for tropical systems and an El nina pattern is shaping up which means conditions are more favorable. The more consistent the weather is the more we can predict the season's outcome. We're still two months away from hurricane season.

They said this last year. And the year before that. And the year before that. Hurricane statistics are available to anyone who looks for them. And anyone who does will discover that nothing unusual has been happening with hurricanes. Their patterns are cyclic depending on various factors, their strength is arbitrary as far as patterns go, NOTHING unusual is occurring. And the most consistent pattern is the predictions of overly active seasons never comes true.

A brew of trace gases accounts for the other approximately 0.04 percent, including the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone.
