Many people, even those of means, are opting for an immediate cremation, which may only cost a few hundred dollars, then a memorial service a few weeks afterwards. Why pay upwards of $20K for a funeral? Save that money and give it to your family. A good fried died 5 years ago, and did just that: a quick cremation, the urn given to his wife, who spread the ashes in his favorite walking park near his home (check local and state laws), and then they had a meal/service, presided over by their local reverend. They had a 10-minute service, a few drinks, and some fond remembrances of him. Simple.

Always provided by the company at 1x my annual compensation, but i always have opted for the extra $100,000 for less than $5 a month. Anything more than 100k then i would need an examination to be approved.

An honest funeral home (yes, they exist) will get its revenue and profit from its base service charge. The issue is, this makes it appear unappealing as you see a base charge of $4,000 to $5,000 before you even choose a casket. The difference tho is that while it is high upfront, there should be fewer hidden fees, meaning less worry about how high the bill will go. As a student in the funeral industry, one who has worked in funeral homes and seen the worse of the worse. I'd like to part with you a few words of wisdom. These are things that the majority of funeral homes will do and some things that any honest professional will tell you as well as things to look out for and avoid. 1) Don't wait till you or your family member has died to speak to a funeral director. A rather common mistake that I see people do because of busy lives is they never take time to discuss wishes and plan out services before the person is dead. I personally have a letter in my files labeled for when I die, I update it frequently. Funeral homes will pre-plan a service even if the person isn't terminally ill, and a reputable funeral home won't charge you til it's time for the services to be done as a lot can change between now and then. This is advantageous as it allows you to shop for a better value without feeling rushed. 2) You can use your own items. Funeral Homes by law HAVE to accept stuff like caskets, Urns, Memorial Foldes, etc... from a family, additionally, they are to do this without charging a fee. If you really want to get cheap but have a decent service you can shop for a casket and purchase one for less than the funeral homes ask. Ironically, Walmart has a selection of decent caskets, but be wary, not all suppliers have the same quality and I have seen way too many instances of caskets and urns falling apart due to shoddy workmanship. Additionally, you can use your own venues and equipment too, with the right permitting you can have your loved one buried in your back yard, additionally, nothing stops you from using your own cars, your own property for the funerals, etc. Also to this day, you can establish a family cemetery in the U.S, you'll be subject to similar laws as public ones but you can still do it. 3) Keep an eye out for these warning signs when talking to funeral homes. If a funeral home or director does any of these things, go elsewhere: - They don't provide you a GPL (General Price Listing) upon request. - They don't allow you to watch the removal process or allow you to participate if you ask. - They offer funeral "Packages" that are not customizable. - They try to have you fill out any non-disclosure forms before arranging a service. This can catch you out but you shouldn't sign anything that prevents you from speaking against them. - They try to charge you for a pre-arrangement and don't guarantee they will keep the arrangement after a certain period. These things are just a few ways I have seen people get manipulated. 4) Know where to spend your money. A major thing I see that catches people off guard and raises costs is the purchase of items that are either redundant or often just are never used as intended. A few things I see that really can be avoided are: - A sealing casket AND a sealing vault - Flower Pots on headstones - Large and ornate flowers - Normal urns for scattering ashes - Normal urns for ground burial There are more but their rather specific so I won't mention them. Also, there are things you can utilize to your benefit. - Rental caskets are a good alternative for those who don't want to buy a casket for viewing when the body is to be cremated. This is also good for burials too if the burial is to be held privately at a separate time. - Instead of ordering flowers that get thrown away after the service or don't get donated. Use items that represent the deceased, or if you want foliage, get a plant that can be put in a garden later or donate the flowers after the service, seems dark but retirement homes love to use those arrangements. - Don't buy the ornate headstones for individuals, get a family section, make a nice marker for the whole section and use less ornate and less expensive headstones for each member. - If you aren't particularly religious, a graveside service is a cheaper alternative to renting a church. - The cheapest option for you will differ, where possible like California, Green Burial is actually cheaper than cremation, and Direct Cremation where cremation is cheap is the often cheapest and simplest option. Direct burial also exists too. - For funeral homes that offer a flower car, it's an expense that can be avoided as it does nothing that normal pickup cant do and serves no actual purpose more than driving flowers to the graveside. - If you cannot afford a pastor, you can officiate a service yourself in most places, laws may vary tho. - Unless you really want to use them, sealing burial vaults and caskets do little to nothing in the preservation and over time lose that seal and their pest-preventative abilities. It's best to opt out of those if you want and when you can. I hope this information is useful to you.

After seeing the video I am appreciating the Islamic rules more. Number one rule is the dead should be buried as soon as possible which removes embalming and other costs from the equation. Number two is there should not be any casket, body must be shrouded by a white piece of cloth and nothing else for burial. This further reduces the cost. No funeral home is required, a little prayer is done in mosques for the deceased and doesn't cost anything, Overall burial is less costly and business opportunities are kept at minimum.

The fees charged for human death are outrageous and have little basis in actual costs. It’s an industry that preys on grief and people at their most vulnerable. For example you can buy exquisite elaborate large furniture for far less than a typical simple casket. It’s a predatory industry that needs to change. It only hurts people and families further to drain their bank accounts when they’ve already suffered the loss of a loved one. it’s unethical.

Turning your family into dimonds will definitly make for some awkward conversations... Him: I´m sorry honey. I sold the dimond. Her: YOU DID What?! How could you sell my Dad?! Him: Sorry...We really needed the money. I did fetch a good price though. Famous Rapper: Yeah man! This ones my grandma, the bigger ones my grandpa and the one next to it is my dad. Oh and the empty space next to it is going to be for my mum. Fan: What about the ones on necklace? Rapper: Oh those are from deceased fans. I agreed to take them as thats what they wanted apparently. Also who´d refuse a free dimond am I right? 1: Did you make sure thats its not a blood dimond when you bought it? 2: Oh yeah. I´ve got a certificate an all! It´s actually old uncle Jonny from down the street. 1: You mean the one who used to work at the hotdog stand? When did he die? 2: Oh you didn´t know? He was found dead a few years ago. The fast food had taken a toll on his body 1: And how did you get to it? 2: Oh. His son needed money and I offered him 80$ so yeah...

Personally I find the idea morbid, disgusting and quite disrespectful. How could ANYONE wear their deceased parent, grandparent, child or spouse like a necklace or ring? YECH!

@@retroguy9494 I am not too much of a fan of it myself. I'd get it if maybe a husband might want to keep something of his wife close but that's it. To be honest the idea is great. I bet they are making good money from those people but I also really hope that they don't try to force any upselling onto their customers. In the end it's all about the image you have in your head. Companies make lots of industrial diamonds for tools everyday using normal carbon. They take the ashes of the deceased, extract the carbon and turn it into a diamond. It's just carbon really... We are the ones making the connection to our loved ones but we couldn't even be sure that the diamond was actually made by them. Heck they could give you any diamond and people wouldn't notice.

@@einfachnurleo7099 As a remembrance, years ago people would keep locks of hair of their loved ones in some kind of charm or brooch or frame. Personally, I believe in the resurrection so I must go in the ground so that one day my soul will be reunited with my body. God said "you are dust and unto dust you shall return." He never said you are dust and unto diamonds or industrial tools you shall return!

The fact that there are people who want to profit off of a dead person is sad

I mean they are rendering you products and services. How you expect them to pay their staffs? Their operating costs? Their inventories? Etc? Even burning dead self still requires these and other associated costs. If you don't like it, get it WRITTEN in your will, get them prepaid if needed and etc.

@@merrymaurader2521 I got ya but as discussed in the video it's far from the only option(s). You could even opt to donate your body to science and pay $0 assuming it's makes the cuts. Thankfully it's not as "bad" as being an organ donor (for instance age will NEVER be the deciding factor for example).

People should be more concerned about their souls (there's a much higher cost) and where they will spend eternity than their bodies. Let the dead bury the dead.......Jesus said, "why do you seek the living among the dead?"
