China has made the enormous progress because of brilliant and very intelligent political leaders. And yes, with an iron hand,, but also with great discipline and great work ethos. No other nation could have achieved this! The Americans "helped" the Chinese because they could make big money. China was a very big goldmine for America....the 1%. It was not charity they were after! I am a Dutchman, who is getting sick and tired about the ignorance of most western people and most western intellectuals. The sheer arrogance of "we are the best" will become their downfall.
China Progress was NOT FROM Iron Hand, but from 1978 Free Hand, No Communist Safety Net from Deng Xiaoping famously said "It doesn't matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice." Half Million Chinese sent out Worldwide, 100,000 came back to develop China, that is where "as long as it catches mice". Today, China PRC welcome Dutchman, English, American, Indian to build & get Rich in China.
Kishore is a real diplomat. He is being kind to India and not responding to the Indian inferiority complex which is obvious to everyone except Indians.
Jothi tried to fault China on the LAC issues, and she seems to be eenvy and jealous about China's success. She is more of a pro Western ideology and very bias on China but unfortunately, she is going to be disappointed.. She is too emotional rather than pragmatic views..India has lost the economic race and for RCEP the boat has already left the port because India declined to join because India wants to be in the good book of the US.. 🎉
She’s nt the only INDIAN wo/man to be the enemy of China - Indians & Chinese will remain enemy FOREVER. Tt is my Chinese feeling.? Tis is my personal view. If the leaders of both countries wants to keep playing politics ( also known as a ‘Game of Hypocrispy) - tt is their prerogative.
Think about this. China fought wars against the Soviet, Japan, the United States and the West, and the United States surround China with warships missles and military bases. But China didn't give up making economic cooperations with them. That's how the world works.
What an amazing and insightful conversation! I loved every minute of it. As usual, Professor Mahbubani delivers all the facts succinctly. I hope India and China co-operate and grow their friendships even with the border issues unresolved. Both will grow in clout and dominance in Asia and on the global stage. Professor Mahbubani is absolutely right about India being its own INDEPENDENT pole in a multipolar world. India should never allow itself to be used by the Americans and Europeans as a vassal or stooge in any global conflict or war.
1) Kishore talks about the Asian Century and not China or Indian. 2) He appreciates China's growth but is also highly optimistic about India's. 3) He occasionally hurts the ego of Western Superiority and shows them the mirror by exposing their hypocrisy. 4) West is on decline especially Europe. 5) He places bet on Multilateral institutions such as UN etc.
Yeah, but... the Asian Century is almost certain to be Chinese, rather than Indian, much less Japanese. China has deep economic (BRI, BRICS, RCEP) and security (SCO) linkages with the overwhelming number of countries in the world, and is the largest trading partner of over 120 countries. By many measures, China has already passed America economically and technologically, and human development metrics are starting to show it. In comparison, India has almost no major linkages or trade leverage. For India to reach even a fraction of its potential, huge changes in society, politics, governance and culture would be required, which takes decades to instill. Meanwhile, India is still adding more mouths to feed with decreasing and degrading natural resources. Japan is still suffering from a post-Bubble economy that show no signs of changing. Korea looks to be headed down the same path as Japan due to increasing Chinese competition, while ASEAN and South Asia are all much too small to really compete individually. All that said, if ASEAN and South Asia work together as a unified bloc with China, they'll certainly surpass India in short order.
@@ZweiZwolf DO NOT FALL into the Western (USA) trap. Asian Century is all Asian equally. China is just one of 120 countries China have equal trade partner. China seat in a circle table with Partner, no head, no tail. Xi study history "all road lead to Rome" so China have BRI. Goldman Sachs/NYC 1999 memo idea letter, so China in partnership have BRICS+. Because of President Trump rejection, China was INVITED to join RCEP, and so on, and so on.... China still have a way to go, it is not the time to show one head to the butcher.
It is a pleasure to listen to Kishore who has a good grasp of the current affairs. India needs to take a cue from ASEAN countries and try to establish very good relationship with China for its rapid economic growth. China will be India's best partner in improving India's much-needed infrastructure upgrade judging from the its record in ASEAN nations and Africa! India's highspeed rail project with Japan is crawling at snails pace now!
India will never be partners with China. India is too weak to join with China, because they would necessarily be forced into a secondary role, and India's ego is too big to allow them to swallow their pride.
China PRC will not take the US American bait. China has not drawn it's dagger since 1970's compare to USA not having put their daggers away since 1945 from (Korea, Vietnam, Africa, Middle East, Central & South America & etc.). After China’s Century of Humiliation, China will be on the Offences. In for a penny, in for a pound.
Professor please do not overlook that India turn its back in BRIC common currency after Modi from India met Biden in America. India kowtowing to America and got no spine of its own. Jai S can talk and talk big and we all know Action Speaks Louder!
But I doubt India can carry out this enormous task because they are corrupted and lack of talented people due to outflow of her talents. There is no long term stability in governance. Nobody knows what will happen after Modi's era. Moreover, India is more focus on promoting her own image than BRI for her own benefits. In BRI, India is secondary among other more powerful nations.
Yes it was about Modi... Asking can Modi break from Western hold and free pass for Putin land in India. No. Note, same time, Xi from China PRC invited Putin to visit China free from Western Arrest order. That's Power.
"Why G20 summit cemented India's role as bridge between West & Global South & ties with China' India acting as a bridge between the West and the Global South? India is less a bridge and more like a doormat.
20:00 Let not forget, 2013 China's BRI in Pakistan: China’s flagship economic corridor was offer to India from Inner China Express Rail to Kandla port, Gujarat India. A Win-Win Deal REJECTED by India. Ten year later 2023 @ G20, India, USA, Saudi Arabia was to build Cargo Route System Mumbai India to Piraeus Greece's largest port to Europe that the Chinese COSCO, manage control of its terminals for 35 years. How is India, USA manage the building project so far?
Indeed per Dr Mahbubani that Indians do exceptionally well everywhere one goes why is then India cannot overtake China during recent years as the worlds No. 2 .
Well, this is another "India is Number 1" talk. I blamed Kishore a bit - he was talking about the West but the lady host really wanted him to talk about China, a mismatch.
It is indeed shocking rather than surprising, isn't it? India can create more indian CEO in other countries but it cannot create intelligent leaders in its own country?😂 Literally, sir, they need you. Keep educating these modern intelligent Apes.🤭🤭🤭
If what he says is even remotely true, then isn't India putting itself in a disadvantageous position by getting in bed with US, without even counting the costs? Where is the strategic autonomy then? Isn't it becoming a Japan, whose all major policies from economic to Geopolitical are framed by US?
Noooo absolutely not. India will always align with wherever its interests lie. It is using West for external balancing (QUAD, IPEF) and to increase its own capabilities (recent tech transfer deals with USA). Not doing so would be against Indian interests. I think increasing alignment w/ West is fine as long as we don't join any alliances which we never will.
@@mchauhan4 That's my point, when what India enters in one sided tech transfers out of geopolitical alignment of interests, it espouses making India essentially dependent on Western tech for the foreseeable future. What incentive does, say DRDO has now to pursue its own jet engine technology now that it is getting them off the shelf? US can anytime arm twist India in a scenario of India being too intertwined technologically to escape US dictates lest the tap is turned off. The speed with which India is pledging itself to the US, is akin to running at warp speed towards a Black Hole.
@@mohammadashraf9888 I don't think India is aligning everything out of geopolitical alignment. If one thing to remember from history there is no friends and foes, there is only interests. As of today it makes sense for India to align with West considering the huge gap in the economy of between India and China. It is only in the past two three years India is growing faster than China. The more years we go in this trajectory the lesser the gap. Lesser the gap the more India can stand for itself. So temporarily aligning with west I don't see any issue. But eventually India should keep taking an Independent stand. ie No to US tech but for Indian tech.

India can do much better if small manufacturing units would be incouraged by tiny ways. CAST could be utilised for GDP GROWTH rather using it like votebank.
QUAD mean, when USA said jump, Japan, India, Australia said how high? One QUAD member asking that question. Under QUAD, Australia's Defense Policy In 2023 Explained: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sgspkxfkS4k.html In the meantime, China Billions $$$ are spent on BRI, ASEAN, BRICS+, business trading venture worldwide.
I’m ok tt China/Chinese are ‘not ok’ with India!! I’m ok tt China/Chinese are ‘not ok’ with India!! I’m ok tt China/Chinese are ‘not ok’ with India!! I’m very very sure tt inside the 2 hearts of the 2 leaders ve same feeling as mine. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Contrarian he may sound but this Madhubani chap always gives me cause to step back and think again Lovely discussion...thanks to Jyoti ji for asking relevant questions while not interrupting every now and again😂
It will be fool hardy on the part of India to compartmentalize disputes with China. These are exactly the terms of the Chinese. Any politician with commonsense will not agree to this. All these so called common issues like climate change, interest of global south are of little importance . The Chinese have never been good Samaritan while they want India to be one.
I detest how patronizing he sounds. Just about a couple of years ago he had a completely different tune; now that his darling country's growth is not only decelerating but also risks fundamental and structural stagnation, he adds India to the mix. I respect him for his shrewd ability to shape narratives but I've not seen a more biased and subjective analyst than mehbubani sahab
Exactly. He is a typical Chinese sympathiser. He can claim he is a Sindhi, but his interests are as a Singaporean. If that means pitching for ASEAN instead of India he certainly will do so. What India needs is an independent stand and we are currently doing the same.
As usual Indians being brainwashed by WhatsApp or Western media into thinking that China is in decelerate mode or stuck into stagnation, I am telling you that India is rathet on decelerate mode having this large unskilled population with diminishing opportunity of getting employed. India's future is bleak. So concentrate on your state. I know Indians talk too much while nothing to offer. Empty bins sound much perfectly illustrate indians.
There is some belief (seemingly shared by the interviewer and often stated by the West) that China only got rich because it embraced capitalism. This is as odds with all the evidence. It is actually a sop to western arrogance and feelings of superiority. The Chinese nation worked very hard to achieve this result and to downplay the role of the people of China in this rise is downright insulting. India and China should talk more to each other - they both have much to learn and, together, they can perhaps bang some semblance of reason into the military crazies of the West. Kishore is, as ever, brilliant.
Sorry, but it is TRUE, China got rich because of Capitalism and hard work after 1978 from quote by China's PM: Deng Xiaoping famously said "It doesn't matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice." Deng Xiaoping also said "To Get Rich is Glorious" In for a penny, in for a pound. With China PRC Law & Rules in 1978 under CCP. Xiaoping let CAPITALISM go out. USA is only holding India back
Mr. Kishore seems to ignore or is blind to the humongous drag for India is that being at 111 out of 125 countrys in the hunger rating and 88% in proverty rating makes for a stiff challenge. China while rating a bit better is now truly reversing couse from two years ago because the world is divorcing itself as consumers. A dark period is about to decent on their shrink work force. Failure to address those two factors makes for a good speech. Up ahead is coming are undeniable shortages of food and supplies and aging demographic indicate unimaginable stumbling blocks that will certainly upset most lofty intellectual prognosis. Sorry to disagree but the goal line has been pushed forward down the road. 😢
