Gossip can be a desire to feel like you belong to feel like you are connected. Gossip can be an attempt to understand the dynamics between you and another person and you can't get to that between you and the other person. Gossip at worst can come from a desire to control undermine and take someone out, sometimes that's unconscious but I think there's always some ultimate level of consciousness. Otherwise, you'll clean it up and apologize.

I was at a new camp one time to be Baker and during my break I met a lady and we started talking.Another woman walked in the room and the lady I was with didnt have nice words to say about her.I said thats funny because that woman told me you make the best sandwiches in camp.The next day I saw them greet each other with smiles and a wave.

It is awful. Gossip is essentially telling trying to inform everyone of someone elses shortcomings. I think it comes from a place of trying to make ourselves feel as if we are superior to them because we haven't done what they have.

“but even talking about someone positively” is gossip? Yes! I learned that in an NVC (Non-Violent Communication) course. Whether you say, “Her hair is always a mess!” or “Her hair is always gorgeous!”-you are judging somebody. So, ultimately, gossip is judgment. Now think about how you gossip about (judge) yourself! “I’m so lazy.” or “I’m a powerhouse!”-you’re putting yourself down below or lifting yourself up above. Either way, it feels exhausting. Perhaps it would be freeing and healthiest to think and feel and live at level, grounded.

Maybe, but the more you gossip and talk about such people, the more you keep such evil in your everyday life and the less room you have for good. It’s hard to turn evil around when you can offer no alternative.

That's all some people have to do. Afraid to dream on their own. Jealousy and envy of others because we fall so short. These people know when theyre in the company of small minds. Use it to seemily their advantage. I find it can backfire if the victim stand strong.

Look at politics today when I grew up if you badmouth your previous boss or your opponent when you were running for office, you just werny fit for office or that job like that old saying goes if you want to see how your boyfriend or girlfriend’s going to treat you in the future see how they treat their waitress or someone else that’s being decent to them

GD just woke me up with this truth the damage that bad speaking does to the lives of others . as children we are taught that sicks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me but the truth is even if the person is not there gossip causes psychological mental and physical harm to the person you are speaking about.

I heard a beautiful learning, that angels recieve their energy from Gd in Heaven and evil demons recieve their energy from man on earth. To give evil more energy man has to be divisive in actions, speech and thoughts. To dispel this is to add light by doing going deeds, thinking and speaking with empathy. Love thy neighbor. Go beyond the natural expectation. I love that!

The prophets are proving correct as we near the coming of the Messiah. During WW2, many curses were made against the Israelites and G-d turned those curses into blessings including 1948, 1948 and the Yom Kippur war where the Israelites were given back their promised lands. My understanding from several other prophets is that the restoration and blessings of the remnant will soon be followed by the judgment of the "foreign nations" that will then lead into the coming of Messiah.

There are many who wish they had thought about this a long time ago. But anyone with Common Sense. Or GOODNESS. Would KNOW. Trying to whipe up and get rid of people from afar, keeping blood off your own hands? How could anyone believe that is the way of God.? How could anyone believe Lies and Deception to put others in the ghetto and leave them with nothing, by spreading falsehoods about them. Would be a top ten trait of "God is looking for these qualities for the inhabitants of your Heaven." 1. Spreads Falsehoods and Lies to destroy the lives of the innocent... (Gossip) Apparently there are legions of people out there who thought this made sense!

I've come to the same conclusion as you have Rabbi. Gossip is evil but people think its harmless chatter. A famous 1930s Ganster knew this principle because he said he was ALWAYS the last person to leave a room of gangsters who were gathered for a meeting. He knew the power of gossip and if he left first, all the rest of the people would start talking about him. In the criminal world this could spell your death.
