Why Hashirama didn't break the Edo Tensei? 

I Naruto lore, after Shadow Clone Jitsu, Rasengan and whatever the Sharingan can do, the most plot important Jitsu is the Edo Tensei. Twice used as the weapon of choice of the enemy, and its understand why. It allows the user to create an army of immortal soldiers.
Made even more dangerous when previous Kage's are brought back. Possible none more dangerous then the Hokages, even more so by the 1st Hokage Hashirama.
Even suggested when brought back in the sequal series that he would have been able to break the control side of the Jitsu. Yet he never even tried in the original Naruto series.
Why?
