It touches my heart and brings back everything what me and my family and my people went through in the 90s and unfortunately because of the bad political solution people of Bosnia still live in agony. It will take a time to build the bridges for communication with Ukrainians and they need the time to heal because the pain of their trauma is something they will have to learn to live with. Brave and honest people like Ted will definitely help to slowly build the trust between Ukrainians and some Russians but it is a very slow and painful process. Thank you for the video and good luck to Ted, his family and all others in similar situations.

As a Türk, First of all, i welcome to all people..... no one have to get involved in a war that they don't support , and i respect why they leave russia and come here to be far from trouble. If they respect Turkey and Turkish people and culture, life here, ofcourse they can live , but Turkish people is struggling to pay rent or buy house because of this immigration events. Because the other Turkish people raising the rent price more and more when they see that there's a lot of people who just arrived. Newcomers. I don't know , i can't blame russians or Ukrainians or germans or someone else, i think that we Turkish people are hypocrite and we behave cunningly. I think soon Turkey will be belongs to everyone beside Turks. Because arabs, afghans, syrians, russians, everyone else live better than most of Turkish people. But of course this isn't your mistake.. this is what our disgusting government does. Every government first must take care its own people. But , no, they just don't care. So, because of what happens, now Turkish people are trying to go abroad, like immigrants. I mean, my point is that, people leave their homeland, the motherland, because of disgusting governments in their country. İts like All politicians takes orders from devil. And they don't let noone live peaceful and calm and happy in own land. Putin, biden, our supreme leader and others in other countries, all of them are same. They are kid of demons.

You've got a point about considering the immigration flow over the years and you are right in most points. but do you know the benefits it's brought to the country? I agree, it might not have been well organized, but I've been hearing that the governments are working to fix that. This what is really happening thousands are fleeing turkiye right now and investors really fear to come. Unfortunately, there's a recent trend of some Turkish people blaming foreigners for economic issues, which is actually the opposite of what's true if you look into it. For instance, in Algeria my country, we have much more Turkish residents than algerians here in turkiye. and they've contributed significantly to our economy as they run hundreds of businesses restaurants, stores, big real estates making hundreds of million of dollars, petrol and gaz service companies. Do you believe that the biggest company in term of annual turnover in my country is Turkish, a steel process company (don’t you think that this also having great impact on Turkish economy) But eventhough the very hard situation in algeria (much worst than Turkish one) no body would point a finger to them.. everybody see them as brothers and welcome them. It's important for people to see the bigger picture and be more informed about what's happening around them. This misunderstanding negatively impacts tourism and the economy, which is something we all need to be aware of. Hopefully, things will improve for everyone inşallah

@@zakariacherifi6619 @zakariacherifi6619 no, i don't think immigration affect Turkey in good way. Not that way, You know why? Because this is out of control. Because our government don't have a plan for these people and for this event. They just let immigrants come. But about integration, adaptation, accomodation, they don't have a plan, they don't even care. They don't care rights Turks and rights of these people who immigrate here also,, they don't even control and record very well who come, who is this person, what is this person in his background, Where this person live and work? He works illegally? Does he has education? Our government don't give a fck. Look, i am really not against immigrants because i do believe that all people have rights to create a new life from 0 in any other country. Everyone deserves better life and new Chance but if you arrive somewhere new, you have to be respectful to this country, its people, its traditions, its women, But we see really strange things, For example, some of syrians and afghans take video record or photos of girls and share in social media, Look, this can be a murderer reason in Turkey and it can cause big terrible things more because of anger. Turkey is not fully middle eastern, we're mixed, Turkey have both west and east culture together sorry but some of these people immigrate from like a few hundred years ago, it's like they see a woman first time, Or they don't know how to act and behave in public, İn beach, in park, in street The Same goes in another country for Turkish immigrants also, they move to Germany or somewhere else but they don't respect nothing İf you come somewhere new for better life You don't fck this place You have to respect it and you have to leave everything behind in your former country, You will not live in a new country like how you lived in your home country. İf this is already you, if this is what you must do, then why you just come here ? Stay where you were Or obey the rules in new place, respect the people in new place. I sometimes see in internet that Eastern people do some protest in England or Denmark like they want seria, Islamic rules, life style And i feel strange You know why? You just left your country and immigrate to a modern western country because of Islamic government model system didn't let you live well enough And now you find freedom in west, now you want to fkc here also with same system because you scream for it in street. What the fck is this ?? İf you think sheria makes you that happy Why you didn't stay in there? Don't bring what destroy your country to the place you've just arrived. İf you just live and work here calm peacefully and with respect the people and culture where you came, I don't have problem with you, But if opposite, i have problem And i don't blame immigrants for Turkish economic crise, yes about high price of rent, they come and this happen because Turkish landlords see them and update price higher But, I blame the only government for everything, Because they steal money, they steal money, , they are corrupt , they suck and get everything belong to country and people.

I was in Fethiye last winter and I couldn't believe how many "Russians" were there. When I walked to the back of the coffee shops in Fethiye all the tables were occupied by Slavic visitors who were doing remote work on their laptops. I use the word "Slavic" here as a general term for Russians, Ukrainians, and some other Eastern European people because I can't distinguish their nationality from their looks alone. In Antalya and Alanya I saw even more Slavic visitors. In Alanya in my hotel there were no Turkish channels on cable TV feed. Most of the customers in the hotel and at the beach were again Slavic visitors. What surprised me the most was when I finally made my way into my hometown Mersin, I saw Slavic visitors there as well. I mean in Mersin? Traditionally Mersin hasn't been a tourist city. Generally speaking Turkish people feel friendly towards the Slavic visitors and the visitors keep a low profile. I honestly wish some of the educated Russians and Ukrainians would stay because they would help the demographic data and enrich the culture.

Very good point. I am Slavic myself, not Russian, but Macedonian. Came here and living in Ankara because I married Turkish. Honestly Turkey wouldn't have been my first choice, not just Turkey but any Balkan country. Because we all know Western countries have better standard. Don't get me wrong but I love Turkey very much and it has beautiful language. In the end we are same culture. So, when I came for the first time in Turkey back in 2015 in Antalya on vacation, I was surprised by the number of Russians. Also what surprised me of the number of Russian women marrying Turkish men, that's because Russians are Orthodox like we Macedonians are, Christians. I mean a lot of Christian women marry Muslim men, but I didn't expect that many from Russia. So I just wonder why.
@hurguler
@hurguler 10 месяцев назад
@@thenin4e Yes, I understand. I live in the USA myself. I visit Turkey but because of traffic violations, etc it gets difficult after a while. Why marry Russian women? For Turkish men they're exotic, beautiful. As for Macedonians, my mother is from the Aegean coast from a town called Akhisar. That area received a lot of Macedonian muslim immigrants in the last couple of hundreds years.

@@konstantinosg2170 yes that's the combination. There's no such thing as a homogeneous and pure nation. Not even the Greeks. The Greeks from the past turn in their graves because for them Macedonians were barbarians and never part of Greece. In fact there wasn't even a thing Greece, there were city-states, all in war with each other. Now, as for how Macedonias became part of the Slavic group, that's because when Slavic tribes have started to migrate from the Carpatians towards the Balkan peninsula, it's then when they have mixed with Macedonians. Understood? Macedonia was never Greek, you and other neighbors have taken parts of Macedonia between the Balkan wars, with the help of England, France, and Russa. And have have made an exodus to the Macedonian people in the Aegean part of Macedonia, there are still there Macedonians whose is denied their language and identity. You poor brainwashed Greeks. I feel so sorry for you. One day, maybe in the next world you will learn how evil is your government. And what injustice your people have done to my people. Now GTF off of my comments, and have a nice life. Signature: a proud Macedonian.

Regarding the possibilities of being conscripted into the Russian Army. We can look at some of the Russian RU-vidrs who do videos just as Mick And Trudie do. When we look at them we see many young people, (Lots of young guys ) going anout enjoying their lives without a care in the world seemingly. They seem to be unmmarried many of them probably with no dependents. Yet they do not seem terrified of being conscripted ? To uproot young children from their education and environment and take them to a foreign nation is no small thing. I'm sure the wirld will be a different place in years to come and other nstions besides America and the European ones will have a bigger say in things. America and its global domination wi one day be no more. I wonder what the children of the "brave" men who fled their nation will think about things then ?

The people freelancing and bringing Turkiye foreign currency are actually helping with the economy. They are growing the pie. With that said, Turkiye is not a free buffet where anyone can come and make the life more difficult for the local residents by adding to the inflation ( the produce need to feed 100 million instead of 86 now, finding houses for rent or sale is a challenge if not impossible) and by diluting the Turkish culture with their traditions. So funny, amazing and, at the same time, disgusting to read comments like "I feel for the Russians who fled the war..." Just wait a little - is there any war in Russia, have I missed something? Is there a single house in Russia destroyed by a missile or a bomb? Are there tens of thousands of civilians killed in Russia by invaders? The answer to all these questions is "no", since the war is going on in Ukraine and it is exactly Russians who started the war and keep killing Ukrainians. Actually, those you are "feeling for" are not against this war, they just want to watch it on the internet or TV from a distance... Over 80% of Russians do support Putin's invasion of Ukraine, no matter what they say aloud about it in their interviews, especially when interviewed in safe places like Türkiye. No matter how and when this war ends, there will never be any peace between the two nations again - Ukrainian kids will always remember all those nights they spent in bomb shelters and basements.

I grew up in Istanbul in 1970s and 1980s, have seen a flax of Iranians after the revolution in Iran, seen many people from Ruanda and other parts of Africa in 1980s and 1990s, now of course have a lot of Syrians, Afghans and Russians perhaps Ukrainians too. In some way, it is an honour to have people finding safety in Turkey, but also as you know this comes with many problems too. In that way, I think UK also had been a refuge in a different way to many people. Best wishes.

Back at the time of Vietnam, Americans were going to Canada to avoid conscription. This is no different really. Fascinating video Mick. Thanks for shining a spotlight on the issue.

At Kemeralti Bazaar, I saw a lot of Syrians, and ' Romani ' ( sorry I'm going by their style of dress ). Most of them appeared sad and stressed and children were truly stressed and traumatized. There is some resentment from the locals, although they do hire them in the service sector.. I only speak English and Maltese (Maghreb/Italian), and just a little Turkish, so I wasn't able to speak with people who are actually experiencing this. A war that cost the lives one million Iraqi people by informed estimates. Besides the cruelties and atrocities meted out. We managed to fight with our allies without resorting to that. Or having to drag men young and old of the streets to fight on the front line with very little training. This has been known to happen in Ukraine.

I am very happy with your post, in general I like them/yours anyhow, but doing a different and relevant for expats is VERY good. Looking forward to see more (for example Ikamet (extention), taxes (on pensions), .... Total cost of living is also interesting, we have a kind of decadent living we spend EUR 2300 pm (we own apartment) (but inclusive alcohol and cigarettes EUR 3000 pm (all-in)), in presentations from Germans it is much lower (which upsets me quite a bit). People in general do not count for many things (Restaurants, Aidat, Internet, local taxes, health insurance (we pay EUR 200 pm for the two of us).....) My opinion no way you can have a comfortable life below EUR 1000 pm As for our complex, Russians/Ukrainers, it goes fine as far as I can see between them. I think they consider themselves of being residents of the complex rather then citizens of their country (good!) As a PS you are one of the few blogs/vlogs English speaking, so much in Russian and in German (perhaps too much), keep things up as you do. COMPLIMENTS
