I didn't even have to watch the video for me to wholeheartedly agree with you. Sending kids to community college is not regarded as "prestigious" and high schools tend to avoid that route as a way to increase their enrollment. And that's also why it's so uncommon to go to cc because it hasn't been normalized in high schools. Honestly that's kinda the reason I was so hesitant when my parents suggested this route if I really wanted to go to a UC. But as humiliating as it felt initially while my fellow graduates were going to top universities, I'm really glad I took this route cause it's saving money and I get to hopefully go to a better school than the universities I got into when I applied in high school

I agree, I went to a prestigious private school for 2.5 years, and public school for 1.5 years. The counselors def have their own plans to get students to go to top unis, I know a student who got accepted into Stanford, and they told her to not apply anywhere else and just take the offer. and told another student to go to a low ranked private school over a state school because its a private collese/uni. public schools have their own agenda too, but not as much as a college prep private school, They would rather send their kids to a 90% acceptance rate university than community college.

Yeah they prefer private schools specifically because most students end up at public schools so they want to diversify where they send students. But private schools have the most expensive tuition so they’re basically leading them to a mountain of student loans 🙃

And side note, congrats on graduating from Cal! What are your career plans now that you've got a bachelor's degree?
