The Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland Vol 17 (1840) and the Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy 2nd Series Vol. II (1879) both talk about how the indigenous in Scotland, Wales, Ireland, England were dark/blk/swarthy/tawny in complexion sent to West Indies and Americas 1700-1900s. Can you speak to this?
Hi I live in Glastonbury, just near to Street and I am aware of qute a significant group of radical Quakers there. I have never heard of Catherine Impie and am so pleased to have heard of her through your talk. I wonder if she knew of a family of Antiguan plantation owners resident in Wells where they were also significant land owners and whether she had any contact with them. I am currently researching them. I will follow her up.Thank you. Lovely talk
Quite a few Afroamericans fled to Britain as fugitive slaves in the early and mid-19th century/ Some settled in britain as teachers, preachers, lecturers for many years. And in some cases their. Children remained in britain after their parents returned to the US after emancipation. I am wondering whether any research has been done on his group
The US was completely inhabited be the Aborigines ( African Based Origine) Black skinned woollen haired rulers.. thousands of years BC.. ABORIGINES occupied the whole surface of the earth. Many of the Aboriginal blood lines still hold many original manuscripts never revealed or discovered by non-Africans. Tudor England was built and Ruled by Africans till the late 16th century. Proof has been successfully hidden in plain sight because programming of the masses was easier and quicker than to sift through all those records, modify and hide away. Those of Aboriginal nobble descent are very present Till today and much more qualified to give accounts on world history and how power was systematically handed from blacks to non-blacks who cannot be separated from genetic recessivity through albinism and inbreeding.
There's been blacks since the middle ages all through England in the nobility as well as the regular everyman. Well before the wind rush I hate the fact they always make it seem like blacks only came during that time period. Let's not forget the riots in Liverpool and Manchester after ww1 where black soldiers was murdered.
You'll be surprised to know "maybe" that there was already these people in European and in nobility and royal families so I think it's time to stop associating so called black people with this idea that the history starts with slavery. When this isn't true at all. Were talking about the oldest people on earth
Thanks Caroline! Please read Ancient & Modern Britons by David Macritchie and Jews and Muslims in British Colonial America by Hirschman and Yates as they will shed greater light about the correlation between "Black" people and their cross aculturation in America and the UK.
If you haven't already read the book "When Jim Crow met John Bull, Black American Soldiersin WWII Britian" by Graham Smith. It has a lot ofi nformation and history. I enjoyed this interview and learned a few things. Thanks. From a history buff in the USA, This quote from Catherine Impey still applies to date, June 2022. "We see America, or at least its governing classes (for, though the great nation is a republic, it is always the few who govern, whether by exceptional ability of person or circumstance, or by choice, or election, of their fellows), striking with deadly blows at the best elements of its coloured population. Why? From fear".
This simply isn’t true at all. Not even close. There are many black grifter authors that make a living about writing false information about British history. They all tell the same false stories, and use the same racist logic to support their wild theories, and very often falsely conflate being African to being black.
Sorry I am so late with this comment. I am just now seeing this video for the first time in August of 2023. Might I suggest that you link "Episode 1" and or "Episode 3, 4, 5" or whatever else, was in this particular discussion series. This will make it a lot easier for persons such as myself who are just now discovering this topical issue, to find the other videos in this series. Not a criticism. Just a suggestion. Thank you for considering my suggestion. Wonderful talk indeed.
Gratitude. I've always thought this. I love Victorian style homes. John D. Rockefeller peaked my interest when reading his book/biography Titan by Ron Chernow
The photo used was really interesting as it looks like my dad and how I imagine my gg granddad who was a sailor would look. But a really interesting podcast.
You might be interested in a book called "Black Hands and White Sails" by Patricia and Frederick McKissack. It's a history of Black sailors. It's detailed and well researched so don't let the fact that's it's a kid's book scare you off.
@@kevwhufc8640 nothing is stopping you doing your own research, write your own paper / book (and perhaps a film). There’s nothing stopping you not law. If you are interested, and it is a subject worth the work, then do it.
Here's my book , lol .. theres loads of info about it all tbh. Known as *Impressment* , press gangs , working for navy would take men by force to work on their ships. It happened around the world, but moreso in Britain because it had the biggest navy. It also happened in the army but not as much. Started around mid 1600s until the early 19th century. .
Mary seacole ( spelling?) Was inspired by Florence Nightingale's work in the Crimea . She travelled to the Crimea to see what she could do to help the injured soldiers. She found a place to make food for the soldiers and used her own money to buy clean bandages and other medical things. She deserved a statue .
@@kevwhufc8640 because her journey and story about helping the troops has been debunked so many times, its not only boring but hard to believe that people are still pushing her 'story'
@@chrisjones2224 I don't know enough to disagree with you, But now you've told me I shall look into it further . I've heard about her story and had no reason to doubt it . Until now..
Your talk / interview would have been more powerful IF photographs would have been included. Some of these people you mention may not be well known to your audience. Q: Did you ever find any further references or materials in the written interview records of, Henry Mayhew, in his seminal work, "London Labour and the London Poor (in the 1840's)"?
Hi Old School your comments are not very helpful on the forum here. I would recommend that you do some research for example read Venerable Bede's which perhaps you can relate to ! Perhaps do some more reading and research. Read the Jacobite Gleanings State Manuscripts from 1745, Memoirs of the Secret Services of John Macky. Once read you may be able to put forth sensible arguments.
Thanks for these suggestions. Also Family names from the Irish, Anglo-Saxon, Anglo-Norman and Scotch (1843); Origin of the Anglo Saxon Race (1840); The races of Europe (1867). Each explain the aboriginal inhabitants were blk/swarthy people.
That there were black victorians that wasn’t just living in poverty. There were black people with working class jobs in England in the 1800s. And historians don’t cover this. Most people think black people came over here with the windrush from the Caribbean which isn’t true. Black people were already here in the 1800s living and working.
