@@issurxozo Exactly. And honestly, I think he gave away Star Wars because he was just tired of all of it. The guy is an independent artist who probably never even thought of achieving the magnitude of mainstream success that he did
I don't know this for a fact, but apparently he was working on the scripts of the sequels before Disney bought him out. The sequels would have focused on the force and go in serious depth on it. If someone can find them, I would love to read them.
Yeah just look at the people that make it into Hollywood, lots of them say stupid and frankly evil stuff like how a kid being chased by an armed child rapist should be locked up for defending himself.
+RMG Productions I'll never understand why people shit on Lucas so much as a director! "THX 1138" rivals anything Kubrick ever did and "American Graffiti" is loved by everyone!
George Lucas is a true creative genious, is a shame all the backslash he had to take over the prequels, wich were an experimental endeavour of him. So inderapreciated, specially by SW fanboys. Hope he keeps making films and writing storys, we need true creative work.
+juan esmit For me the prequal are better for character dev and story dev and less about making the best movie (whit x min of fight x min of chat x min of charater dev x min etc.) No it not made to be THE BEST MOVIE, it made to be a better story and a better charater dev. PPL that don't think the Prequal are good don't onderstand that. SORRY FOR THE BAD ENGLISH. BTW Episode 3 is the best probably.
+RMG Productions Because most people don't get the traditional romance and tragedy he uses in his films like Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Die-hard fans were expecting Anakin and Padmé's relationship to be more of a love-hate one like with Han and Leia. They also didn't expect Anakin's fall to be out of a misguided love. All of it just went over their heads, so they didn't like it. When I watched The West Side Story in a college class, a lot of people laughed during the "Maria" song. You can't expect people with a low mentality to give a movie with a high mentality a good rating. A lot of those people would give a movie like The Ridiculous 6 a good rating. Most of the comments I've seen on RU-vid about that movie were positive, which I just couldn't believe or understand.
Spitfire Mark1A Well the story is alot more original than just hey those are bad people we need to destroy that and win... The story in the "Original" is not a bad one it just not a original one to my liking (the original are like i said good MOVIE not good art...) Yah i agreed it not for every one but ppl that can watch it will get alot more than just the bad ppl kill the, end type of story. SORRY FOR THE BAD ENGLISH... But perso i pref the Prequal because it a better movie to find out more about the universe of start wars ... also really the jedi in the Prequal are much more interesting (Luke was really not that good)
Thing is, Hollywood didn't think Star Wars would be a success and most of the major studios passed on "Star Wars" until Lucas ended up at 20th Century Fox. Thing is, George Lucas was a genius doing what he did and the success he built up from Star Wars is evidence of his genius. Lucas was prepared to make a final trilogy of films but decided not to produce them because of the hate from fans over his handling of these Star Wars movies that he funded, produced, directed and created.
Yes, but at the same time, even Lucas didn't believe the first Star Wars would succeed, he was sure it was going to flop which is why he even skipped his own premier to go to Hawaii with Steven Spielberg instead.
I think George is a nice guy. I understand if you don't like the prequels, anyway that's no reason to hate on him or insult him. He really is a risk taker, he was a risk taker when he made the OT. He put his heart into his creations with help from other visionary and passionate people. He was a risk taker when he later made the prequels. Didn't turn out to be as good but man, I think people should respect him a lot more because of what he has achieved.
Actually Jared. He wanted Luke to die and come back as a robot or some retarded shit so no dude... A lot of people who do know how to write a better script lol.
Exactly just wanna be fans who think it is cool to hate the prequels are like that. Sure I grew up on the OT but I love all of George's creations none the less. It is all Star Wars too me.
Denzel Mendoza the OT was better because he didn't really direct the final two. Kershner did TESB. There was more input from multiple sources to enhance the story. George was kind of a monopoly with the prequels.
They hate him because he's a better storyteller than most directors and writers in Hollywood. He wrote a 6 film masterpiece that is beloved by people the world over even nearly 50 years later.
Yes.. but...... oh are we setting the bar low Just look at the recent "writers" guild of America strike... Chatgpt could do a better job then thoes already absurdly overpaid "writters" The funniest part is that you can literally ask chatgpt to write you better slogans and protest signs then the crap they used Incompetence is 1 thing But insainly overpriced Incompetence with demands of higher pay is absolutely absurd and funny
You do know that if it wasn't for Hollywood (aka Alan Ladd of 20th Century Fox studios), there probably wouldn't have been a Star Wars at all. The other two was where the FU came in. Merchandising and the fact he bankrolled Empire and Jedi himself.
You know, George lucas is the epitome of the American dream. Self made, entrepreneur, against the establishment. You know what set him on this unique path? Execs being incompetent and dismissing his "stupid space movie", which allowed him to produce toys and get the IP of his own movie. Later movies.
Lucas doesn't care really, He isn't the kind of director who does movies for a general public. His ideas were initially executed into film for him and his friends. He's an experimental director hence why he doesn't always make the best content, nevertheless the ideas he has are pretty good and Hollywood would definitely appreciate his mind with them. Ironically his biggest creation Starwars fell into what Lucas try to differ it from. The idea was original both OT and Prequels, but along comes the sequel and Force Awakens and is turned into a copy of what was once Lucas' original idea. Which is why Lucas is superior to Hollywood, they need to copy his idea to make it good again. Hollywood hates Lucas because Lucas doesn't need them to make the movies he wants.
Aldair Reynoso Lucas said himself the three trilogies should run parallel as well running sequentially. There are meant to be similarities and there is meant to be symmetry.
Yes! But I don't think people realize how much of Star Wars was his idea his wife's and that one producer who was fired after Empire. And how much came to be because of spur of the moment chance and necessity
God its SO easy to figure out they hate him because they can't CONTROL HIM. Just for THE RECORD I AM A CHRISTIAN! I SERVE A LIVING SAVIOR. GOD SAID! ALL WHO PRAISE OH ISREAL I WILL PRAISE! AND ALL WHO CURSE OH ISREAL I WILL CURSE! AMEN!
Not just that. THEY also have a very different political agenda from him. They are satanists, and they want to extinguish the European people, culture and society.
“You don’t want to be oppressed by people who are not as smart as you, and I’m dumb.” He can spark a revolution he literally discovered the burn/self burn I did not think it could be executed so well!
i'm starting to like Lucas the more I listen to him and am willing to give his prequels another chance. At least he puts his heart and soul into a project. Cant fault him for that.
That's true. At least the prequels went in a new direction and felt completely different from the original trilogy. TFA was good but it was way too derivative and safe. It just felt like constant fan pandering. I thought it was a better movie than the prequels, but at least he tried something new damn it!
Srikanth Boddapati TFA was fan pandering and set out to do one thing - to make as much money as possible. Lucas went on a limb with his prequels and didn't give a damn whether you liked it or not. And they still made a billion dollars whether you liked it or not. I respect him for that.
mousehead2000 Lol don't act like the inclusion of all the kiddie bullshit like the pod racing, jar jar, young aniken, and as many things that could be made into toys wasn't about money. Lucas is a better businessman than he is a filmmaker.
Srikanth Boddapati yes. you are correct. for all his 'heart and soul', the prequels was all about money which is why they sucked major ass! The originals were best because they were made by a guy who believed in what he did when no-one else did. As a result they were pure movie magic. TFA was a nice copy but that is all it was - a nice copy.
I think Lucas has been unfairly hammered by the fanbase. Me, I saw Star Wars (not "A New Hope") at the age of 11 when it first came out, and it was life changing. Sci-fi had never looked like this before. The thrill of the assault on the Death Star simply can't be explained to somebody young today who grew up with routinely fabulous special effects. By Jedi we'd all grown up and the thing was running out of steam, I think like most people I saw it for completeness. The 11 year old was now on the verge of adulthood. And then kind of moved on. So I have never been a "Star Wars fan" as such, they're just some great movies from my youth. I don't think the prequels are the greatest movies ever made (I don't like prequels period, for a start) but the torrent of abuse regarding them seems out of all proportion. Obviously Lucas offended those who consider themselves "fans" for some reason; I suspect it's because he previous to that had monkeyed around with the originals, recutting and adding CGI, and that triggered some kind of "you're raping my childhood" kind of response. I enjoyed the Plinkett deconstructions of them but honestly, no movie could survive that kind of critique. You could destroy Citizen Kane by the same approach. It's particularly odd therefore to me that the RedLetterMedia guys didn't savage The Force Awakens; quite the opposite in fact, when that movie is an astonishingly derivative, shallow and empty rehash of Star Wars (or "A New Hope". Whatever). Fandom is strange.
Sir Knight Errant because the prequels are bad except for parts of revenge of the sith. I think it’s more about acknowledging your own mistakes instead of feeling attacked by the fans who made him a billionaire. But he went and sold his movies to the biggest company in the world just to make a point. That’s childish
+Darksnovia The late 70s early 80s were a special time in Hollywood were young filmmakers were making great movies. There are still original movies being made but not for mass consumption. Lucas like many of the great filmmakers of that time had a short time of success and was never able to duplicate it.
+Darksnovia Tragic but true, creativity is dead in hollywood, it has been reduced to a pitifull formula: www.storymastery.com/story/screenplay-structure-five-key-turning-points-successful-scripts/ Thanks to this, all we get is the fast food version of films, a shame.
+Darksnovia yeah, the prequels were not flawless by any means necessary... i prefer return of the jedi over revenge of the sith, myself....but atleast the prequels were bold and audacious and came from a creative spark.
George's inspirations for Star Wars: Flash Gordon series, samurai movies, westerns, mythological themes, WW2 documentaries Disney's inspiration for Star Wars: Star Wars (OT) Says a lot.

Hollywood is the most shallow, political, bureaucratic, ridiculous, greedy, tacky, elitist, degenerate, hypocritical, close minded institution on the planet. It stopped being good by the time the 1970's rolled out, not saying the movies themselves are bad, just the institution itself, stick with the more honest independent films if you want true creativity. Lucas is a great filmmaker, wish he directed more than just 6 films.
Obi-Wan Cannoli WELL, It has a bit off ep IV remake so UNNESSESARY but some pretty GOOD ideas tough. maybe it IS cleaning the way for a WAY DIFFERENT type of sw path since ep VIII and IX
+Brian You say that... but Lawrence Kasden (screenwriter for most Star Wars films) wanted all kinds of crappy things to happen.... Luke killing Vader, then wearing the suit to trick the Emperor and then killing him, amongst some other stuff which has slipped my mind right now... but rest assured, George Lucas is 90% of why Star Wars is so great, the actors, screenwriter, "directors" (those who George basically directed the directing of), and John Williams' incredible scores at the rest of the equation. But without George Lucas it would be nothing, people seem intent on trying to take credit away from him nowadays.
@@richardkocksworthy8423 This is Naked Ambition and the nature of Fear/Evil explored in that film, which is what makes it Great to me. The concepts are very REAL WORLD for anyone in the business!
George Lucas wanted to tell a story of tragedy and redemption. He didn't have a specific audience in mind so anyone could enjoy his films. Today, film makers have target audiences that often alienate other people and usually tend to fail. For an example, Hollywood makes a film with all women cast with strong feminist tones and it flops hard. Then they pin the blame on a whole demographic people that the film wasn't even for. George is right, Hollywood is stupid.
As a human being George seems like a genuinely swell person. His writing may be flawed and I've only heard he can be kind of an ass, but he doesn't put up with the system and that deserves some real respect.

Well I heard that he was so nice to his staff during the be Production of the prequels that they didn't have the heart to till him to tone certain aspects down or change iffy dialogue.
+Dream Well he said in a interview once that people tend to overuse new technology in the film industry when it's available. I think he knows he made a mistake when the Prequels were 90% CGI, but it doesn't make them bad movies.
I for one was raised with the prequels and I know that creates a different perspective because I didn’t see the contrast of the two trilogies until later. But because of this I have a great respect for this man “creative vision” he was an amazingly imaginative creator that envisioned a world adored by millions. Perhaps the most known movie franchises of all time. And for that I have undying respect
The film industry owes Lucas a immeasurably debt for what he did with teaching them merchandising something rarely done with films before Star Wars with rare exception like Disney Films, Planet of the Apes, and James Bond. Also his contributions to special effects, picture quality, and sound to film changed the medium. With that all said as a director or film maker IMO Lucas benefited when he still had people who would tell him no or your wrong.
joeyxl3456 its the nature of life mate. You shouldnt blame humanity, because there is no happy end for it. In near future we will destroy ourselves, thats obvious af.
He also had editors. If it weren't for them, Han Solo would have been some frog-thing and the movie may have really bombed like he was expecting all along. As for Empire, with as good as it is, it was the one where Lucas was involved the least. The more you know.
He did the right move, the fans were pressuring him too much to work on star wars he said fuck it Im giving it to Disney you can bitch to them now, and it worked because eventhough whatever Disney does that will never be close to the original 6, clearly fans are dumb enough to pay for it so clearly Disney is happy to pour out crap and bleed out the series
@@boggless2771 Truthfully, he should have been smart enough to just let it be. He should have known that he could never recapture that original magic. Fans should have realised that as well, and tempered their expectations. But that didnt happen. It was never going to be what everyone hoped it would. And now, Disney is just hammering it into the ground.....
It's happening right now. A few years ago people online used to post all kinds of anti-Prequel stuff like blogs and videos, but now hardly anyone does that. Many Prequel haters are now retracting their statements and Prequel-era material is becoming real popular now. In the far future, the Star Wars Prequels will be remembered as an unjustly hated trilogy of amazing movies, while the Sequels will be remembered as shallow leftist cash grabs that tarnished the series.
Hoggar Krababbel,ReonMagnum-the Star Wars Prequels look like live action video games. they have cool moments but ultimately suck. who but Disney would you rather see own Lucas film? PepsiCo? Coca Cola? GM, Sony?
I bet the exact same thing said people about the prequels. The generation that grows up with the ST will make it live on just like every other generation for every other trilogy. I'm a Star Wars fan and I love every Star Wars movie.
@@i-deni-i5138 the reason the prequels succeeded in the long run is because they continue the story. The hate came from the objectively bad writing of dialogue and because it dove into in-universe politics and was executed in a boring way for many people. In other words, the prequels didnt RUIN the story, they were just flawed and the flaws were magnified because it was the only new star wars in almost 20 years. The sequels destroy characters. That's unrecoverable. I know that people said that about Yoda, but they're wrong. He was changed by the war and that makes sense because it was probably the biggest thing in his 900+ year life. Luke however, was DRASTICALLY changed. He went from seeing good in Vader and using holding on to it even when his life and the rebellion were on the line, to seeing darkness inside of his nephew and attempting to murder him.
@@boggless2771 that is not a drastical change dude. Luke is 30 fucking years older than we last saw him. Also don’t you think he’s affected by the war too and therefore has a reason to be scared that it might not happen again??? Learn to understand human beings. Oh and another thing. It baffles me how much people like you can ignore the fact that Luke literally instinctively wanted to save everyone he loves by ending his Nephews life. INSTINCTIVELY is the key word there that is literally said by him in the movie. That means unconsciously. Do.....you.......understand???
At least if you hated the prequels you knew George actually cares to tell a story. With Disney and the sequels you know that they are bad and that Disney doesn’t care unless it affects how much money they milk off the franchise.
Disney wasn't always like that though. When they first got big, they put a lot of time, effort, and money into their movies and they became classics as a result. They were determined, ambitious, and weren't afraid to try new things. Nowadays it's the complete opposite.
Star Wars was amazing because it was created out genuine love and passion for the art of amazing sci/fi-fantasy storytelling. Despite the filmmaking resources, this franchise was one of the few that stood out from the likes of Hollywood, but once it was bought into the hands of Hollywood, that’s when things went down the dumpster. Really sad to think about.
Most Hollywood executives only think of movies as investment vehicles. They don't care about artistic merit or entertainment value beyond how it impacts the bottom line.
I can remember as a 15 year old kid seeing a small blurb in Time or Newsweek around February of 1977 about a weird space sci-fi movie that would be out in a few months. Being a hardcore sci-fi fan, tinstant I saw that I turned to my best friend and said "We've got to mark our calendars for the end of May and go see this new movie the day it comes out". We didn't actually make it on the Friday premiere but the next day we went for the matinee at 11:00 AM and didn't leave the theater until 1:00 AM that night. We watched the movie 5 times that day. It was a glorious teenage memory.
And then Hollywood tightened their grip so hard on every single film that came after it. Now there won't be another George Lucas. The closest person to reach Georges success is Peter Jackson, but Peter didn't created Middle Earth like George had with Star Wars. George Lucas will always be an inspiration to all filmmakers forever. Even though his films are actually pretty disappointing, he's still a legend.
Christopher Nolan has made some great films, has a good amount of independence from the studio, as they let him do his thing and they release it, as well as being influenced by Lucas. He's said Star Wars is one of his favorite films and it helped influence Inception and Interstellar.
Interesting that you make the Star Wars - LOTR comparison. You're right that Peter Jackson's the only one to have come close to what Lucas has achieved, but like you said - it was an adaptation. I'd argue Lucas is more like Tolkien. I can't think of another filmic world-builder, especially for sci-fi/fantasy, as innovative as Lucas. The originals, the prequels, AND The Clone Wars (and I suppose the EU) established an incredibly diverse galaxy no dissimilar from Middle-Earth. At least by the time of TCW, Lucas remembered that his strength was in the creative force, the consultant/exec-producer, leaving others to write and direct the tv series.
Exactly! He may not be the absolute best movie director. I cant think of anyone that comes close in the movie business that has a mind to build a whole world like Tolkien did with fantasy/middle earth. The scope of the world he built is enormous and so many stories and movies can live in that world. Im not having alot of faith in Disney. I think the Star Wars Movies are kind of losing their spirit with Lucas out of it. I hate how the new characters in these films lack so much. You dont know shit about this Rey main character and she is just able to accomplish everything with minimal effort. Im not seeing a very intresting character arc for her. I dont know if people will really care about her character like Luke Skywalker in 20 years.
What a boss. More people should see this and know the crap he went through to get most of his early movies made. I just went through his biography. My god that man has my respect regardless of the special editions and the prequels.
I'm sure Kathleen Kennedy tried to keep him as advisor while ditching his ideas and hiring JJ ABrams to make a reboot. That would allow them to have a stamp of approval but he's no fool and told them to buzz off. They refused his ideas, he said it was a divorce and they are white slavers to make it clear that he didn't endorse this abomination.
TS Prism I think they may use his ideas for 8 and 9. I think Disney wanted to start off right, instead of something completely different. If it stays about the Skywalker family then they may use ideas from Lucas sequel trilogy 7,8,9.
This guy is a genius. All 6 Star Wars he made was fantastic. Yes ALL. Force Awaken was a soulless corporate high budget fan fiction, a re-shoot of New Hope. However, I have to give it to Disney, Rogue One was not bad. It could have been a classic though. There is a lot of missed opportunities with Rouge One.
They never liked Lucas because he didn't want his movies to be financed and controlled by Hollywood. Lucas funded the prequel trilogy with his own studio budget and while they certainly aren't masterpieces they got a bunch of hate from "reviewers" who were Hollywood shills because Lucas didn't follow Hollywood's agenda and trends that make movies successful. Yet, those same reviewers love the sequel trilogy for it's woke politics.
The humble farmer who feeds the entire kingdom knows what season to plant the seeds, when they are ready for harvest, how to raise livestock, how to work out the prices for his harvest and how to repair a shack. All the king knows is what type of wine he should have in each given part of the day.
Ricardo Rocha BS, you didn't get the point. The studios don't care about what you mentioned. They want to make money. Financially the last years for Star Wars unter Lucas's control were good. Star Wars was doing strong, although some loud people complaining. If they are right I don't want to judge. Now Disney is squeezing the shit out of the franchise until it'll brings no more money and therefore noone cares. I can understand why he said he sold his company to "salvers". Yes he did, but at least he got control over it by doing it early enough. Also: He got enough money when he sold his company. He could do movies on his own. He is completely independent.
The OT is not anti-war. Its pro-war. Its literally a revolution that overthrows the empire. The prequels are anti-war 100% and couldn't possibly be clearer.
Every interview I see with this man makes me respect him more. I don’t care that the prequels could get really, really bad-the man has a brilliant mind and a genuine integrity. Hell, he only sold Star Wars so he could watch his daughter grow up and spent a ton of that money saving the history of film itself. If he weren’t retired I’d tell him to use his fame and influence to fuck over Hollywood as much as possible.

It is truly devastating to put 2-5 years of your heart and soul into something as a Writer/Director, to lead a carefully curated team of artists, craftsmen and expert professionals through hell and back, to deliver a fantastic movie for the audience, only for the Executives to finally show their face at the eleventh hour and ruin everybody's hard work, out of ego and ego alone.
Yeah it’s kind of hypocritical after the hatred thrown at him over the prequels when they came out, which many people like to forget now...Ep I and II were nominated for Razzie Worst Picture awards...”The People vs George Lucas”....
Milos Grubic No, people who like them are most likely hipster douchebags who feel the need to like what's unpopular and hate what is popular as a cheap way of expressing one's individuality.
George Lucas is a bloody genius, and I do not use that term lightly. But I believe he is a genuinely brilliant man. Not only his creativity and imagination, but he is just a smart, smart man. High society does not like smart people.
Stanley Kubrick said that he left Hollywood because he was tired of seeing the same faces every single day and getting asked cheerful, friendly questions of "Oh how's your movie going?" etc and as they turn away, their faces scowled as they wanted to hear it was going badly and that he was gonna fail.
This is what I've always admired about Lucas, and what I strive to accomplish: getting the story I want to tell out there for all to enjoy, thr way I INTENDED it, Hollywood be damned.
The man gets a lot of shit, but dammit I love George Lucas and I’m so thankful not only for the worlds he’s created but how he’s completely changed the entertainment industry time and time again by being himself. He is a true Rebel through and through.

@@choose3373 I didn't hate prequels, but I do admit it had problems compared to the original. Story wise it was alright. The problem with prequels I think was that it didn't had Marcia Lucas...I think she & other editors of the originals did an amazing job. Whereas disney's star wars can't even be considered a decent movie. It's like watching fireworks...all visuals & no story. Characters of disney are just meh. Kylo Ren who was introduced as someone like Vader became a joke. I mean the moment I learned he is a wannabe Vader, made him someone who is without any character in the first place. Like a silly teenager who haven't developed any character so he imitates some grownups. It was pathetic. And disney think force is magic... anyone who has force affinity can do anything...no need of training or anything. And about rest of the characters... I can't even remember their names.

I love the prequels that's right i say that, the history, the characters, we have the opportunity to know more about the force and mostly the political plot Palpatin is a master of manipulation the puppet master behind every conflict using every one interest against them, in the begining he present himself as a democrat and evolving until he revelaed himself as a the true tyrant that he always was. I just love the line from Padme "So this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause" that is always how liberty and democracy dies in applause and celebration Im from Venezuela i understand perfect how people are so emotionally and easy of manipulated for a charismatic lider disguise as a savior i just love all the Palpatin history i believe was narrated in a very clever way the director took his time, and i know im a minority in this but i just hope that in time people start to apreciated more this movies they are amazing even the Anakin character with is flaws is very interesting all is back ground history Why people bashed the prequels but loved The force awaken (that is in every way a carbon copy of A new Hope) is beyond me at least the prequels where original story Force awaken was just a easy regurgitation of what Lucas did in the 70's nothing original in that movie
i for one liked the prequels quite a bit too. the reason might be that i was born in 2002 and made the mistake of watching the prequels first, which turned out to make me enjoy the prequels and then going into the sequels be even more impressed.
It’s hard to put across to kids today how powerfully magical Star Wars was to us nkids in the 70s.. hell the whole world. It was a fantastic time and wild ride. Lines around the building.
The most frustrating thing about Hollywood executives is that they never learn. Every iconic franchise they milk to fuel their yacht outings and cocaine supply was created by passionate artists. Yet, time and time again, the people Hollywood likes to hire are their own buddies who don’t give a damn about art. After the hype dies down, no one is left watching the sequels. They all come back to the original trilogy.
But somehow mission impossible is the exception especially with Tom Cruise working with JJ Abrams, Brad Bird and Chris Macquarie through the entire film series as a franchise ?
They hate george because. 1. He is not Jewish 2. He makes role models with good morals. 3. he is not a pervert and makes smutt films. 4. He is not jewish. 5. He is not jewish.
