Hey Matt, your timing is impeccable literally building my own version of this for my 80 series I am in design phase and haven't started purchasing yet. I have been trying to find a place that sells the parts in AUS and its been hard. Will check out your link. Thanks for running through this install.

Fantastic. Price up the kits too because they’re not that expensive. Of course sometimes we just want to do our own thing. Keen to see how it goes.

Hey Matt. I have a customer who works for an insurance company, they are no longer covering broken chassis’ if people are fitting airbags, in particular on leaf sprung vehicles. The problem is you are point loading the chassis, and instead of spreading the load like a leaf spring does, across a fair length of the chassis, you focus it on one point. I think when people install airbags, the chassis needs to be braced between the mounting points of the leaf, to spread the load evenly. Food for thought… Keep it up mate, loving the new content
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 2 года назад
I wasn’t aware of the insurance angle but yes point loading is a real issue with people who don’t use the product correctly. Also overloading and poor loading contributes to the cracked chassis not just airbags. I did mention it in the video but it’s good that we discuss it further.

More f250 content please ☝🏻 really curious about how the 4.2 manual f truck goes with towing and off road
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD Год назад
Offroad the motor is fine the rest of the truck is junk compared to my other 4wds. The 4.2 is a sweet motor and tows very very well considering it’s size. And no it’s not the 7.3 but it’s also simpler than the 7.3.

Hi Matt good video, the only thing I would upgrade in that kit is the air fittings. DOT rated fittings are a stronger fitting and don't leak to often. They are rated for air brake systems.
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 2 года назад
Ok Stephen. Are brake systems carrying this low pressure? I would have guessed they would be much higher. Anyway I’ll keep that in mind.

I would be interested in how this will impact your wheel travel when not towing. A lot of folks in the states are using long travel airbag kits and / or ones with the Daystar cradle on the bottom side so there is no down travel limit. A good option for someone who wants to be able to Offroad with their tow rig.

@@MadMatt4WD back in the late 1990s I quit driving boats and went back to my original trade as a welder fabricator for a trucking company one of my projects was to convert an International Harvester, military surplus fuel truck 10,000 gallon tank to a wrecker. Air bag suspension was a new thing. Part of the project was to weld on brackets to support the air suspension on the rear axle that was quite a project having never done so before I think I cut that bracket off and moved it six times before I finally got it to the point where it was lined up properly so that it was perfectly flat on the axle and would match up to the frame if I didn't have it perfectly flat the airbag would leak. That was my first and last time to install airbag suspension in a vehicle. That fuel tank, used the original mounts we took off the truck welded them to a 20-ft container trailer chassis made it into a water trailer. We used sprinklers on the back to wet the dirt yard in the dry season so wouldn't have dust blowing all over the place.

I really enjoyed your video Matt, I love the Suspension Bracket quality. You really know how to be informative in your content 👍 One question and one thing to consider Does the pump work well in say comparison to some of the well known brands as a tyre inflator, Is it quick or slow in comparison to say the more popular known name ? This is giving me ideas for my Suspension 🤔. So the thing to consider, and I might be reading too much into it here ; As a builder I use compressors regularly and as we know compressors create a build up of condensation which turns to water build up . Something I have zero knowledge of is if this compressor does this or maybe it does not . So my concern is if this will build condensation and drain back into compressor piston and create pump Corrosion . Be something to ask triple A if you haven’t already checked or maybe they suggest can be mounted any angle already Easy fix would be to Mount two angle brackets of back of tool Box and mount compressor to top of those still Up Same Height .. Hope the big trip in the van is enjoyable mate ! Heath
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 2 года назад
The pump pumped up 4 35s fairly easily. All compressors make water so I have to assume quality gear can handle that.

Nice demo MadMatt. Nice to know of local manufacture too...too many "Australian Companies" source major components OS these days...not really "Australian Made" in my books. I see on AAASuspension web site that they planning for coil kits too - that'll be a challenge to get the pressures and robustness in a physically constrained area! I'm toying with the idea to fit air bags to my leaf sprung camper-trailer...just a thought bubble at the moment. I wonder if leaving the bags open to atmospheric pressure through a controlled orifice will cause the air bags to act as shock absorbers. I don't need additional suspension above and beyond the springs, but I do need shockers and I do need levelling when parked - air shocks!
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 2 года назад
I’m sure they’ll solve the challenges. I don’t think the shock idea will work though.

What are the negatives to air bags? Cracked chasis? Too much air? In leaf sprung setups?
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 2 года назад
Cracked chassis is certainly one but that’ll only happen if your stupidly overloaded and have too much pressure in them. Like anything use them correctly and they’re fine.

This looks like a great kit to have. Some positive criticism. That pipe work at the solenoids and manifold looks terrible. At least for my OCD. I would rather run them in neater routes. Not only will it make it look better, it will also make trouble shooting easier.

I totally agree. No matter how hard I try to make things like this look neat I’m always disappointed in my results. Wiring is the same for me. And I do try.

Hi, one thing came to my mind: Will you need to put a vent in the box where the compressor ist mounted? When the compressor is running it will suck dirt and dust in the box, so maybe a vent with a filter would be a good idea?
@MadMatt4WD

It gets enough air through the hole but it doesn’t run much so at this point I’m not going to add a filter.
