Why I bought a 2022 Tacoma TRD sport over a TRD Off-Road.

In this video, I explain why I picked my new 2022 Tacoma TRD sport 4x4 over a TRD off-road! I did forget to mention that the TRD-offroad also comes with the crawl control and the Multi-terrain Select system (MTS). So if you plan on constant offroading, well then I would recommend the TRD-Offroad.
Let me know in the comments what you thought about the video and what you guys want to see in the next video.

Sport in Canada has the Bilstien shocks. Sport will also do almost everything the off road will except extreme rock crawling. The LSD switch helps simulate the locking diff.

I looked at the Ford Ranger, the suspension came up often as being soft. I like a firm feeling vehicle, so far I’m liking my 2022 Sport, it is not as bad as some say on bumps. My only beef is the lack of standardization between the packages in the USA vs Canada, I ordered the premium thinking I’d get LED and JBL audio, my old 2012 RAM has better sound.

I bought the 2023 Taco Sport Dual Cab 4X4 short bed with EVERYTHING on it in Lunar Rock color. So far I've added the Predator steps/mudguards/thick bed mat/retractable bed step and remote lock for the tailgate (it already had the OEM Tonneau Cover) It's been great for camping and does road trips well with a highway gas mileage of around 24 MPG or better. I also paddle sea-kayaks of 17ft plus in length. I found that Yakima made a rack that installs in the threaded facory mounting holes under the roof mouldings...no drilling the metal and the entire rack assembly can be removed including the posts in about 3 minutes and stowed. So cool, that everyone makes an incredible number of toys and accessories specifically for the Taco. I used to want a Gen 2 and backed off when Gen 3 made it bigger. Wasn't even in the market for anything let alone a truck till I heard they were dropping the V6 and decided to take a final peek at Taco's. I saw the picture of one listed "In Transit" and rushed to place my deposit...it was mine within two weeks! Now 5,000 miles later...lovin' it and my Taco Fever is still off the charts!

You should look into the bed extender for your kayak , it’s a “ T “ shaped bar that slides into your hitch receiver ( just google bed extender for kayak and it will come right up. ,,,,harbor freight has them for $60 ) I’ve jested it for my kayak for years
@jerrykirby402
@jerrykirby402 6 месяцев назад
I also made my purchase this year for the V6. I do not like 4 cylinder turbos nor do I like the 24 body style. The first year of any new truck or car has the potential for bugs that need to be worked out.

I have a 21' Sport 4x4 (MGM), and the main reason I bought it was the price. Toyotathon got me into it for $35,400 otd. The OR was still market adjusted msrp, putting it in the 41k range after tax title and delivery. After I add wheels/tires, lockers, and suspension, I'll be in the 41k range. Seems like a no brainer. I will say I wish I had the bigger 8.75" rear diff, and the electric brake booster for better TRAC, but I can live without them considering how much I saved. Nice looking truck, welcome to the 3rd gen club
@EPOutdoors
@EPOutdoors 2 года назад

@user-ej1bq4bq2w
@user-ej1bq4bq2w 2 года назад
@@EPOutdoors yeah, I managed to time it perfectly somehow, The truck is now worth 46k according to NADA. All manual transmission Tacomas have the larger differential as well as the OR & Pro. The brake booster comes into play because of crawl control. All that is, is simply abs controlling wheel spin and Rev limiter controlling throttle, no physical difference in parts besides the booster/larger diff. I wanted an OR pretty bad, but not an extra 6k bad lol. I would never use crawl control and the ARB air locker is significantly more reliable/less fusy than the stock OR e-locker, so didn't make sense for me personally. Damn truck won't even let you use the locker or mts unless you're in 4lo. With air lockers I can whip around locked in 4hi/2wd if/when gas gets low. It's a nice option, but no substitute for experience / simply choosing your lines with precision. Fuck crawl control
@EPOutdoors
@EPOutdoors 2 года назад
@@user-ej1bq4bq2w NADA wasn't lying I wanted a 21 but it was cheaper to get a 22 when I got mine. Ahh okay, it makes sense for the OR & Pro to have the larger diff. Kinda glad I went with the sport even more now knowing all this. Thanks for the great info!

@@EPOutdoors yeah man I was actually shopping for a later model 2nd Gen Tacoma, and I called the dealership to keep an eye out and let them know I'm looking. He was like "ill get you into a new one for the price of a used one" so I showed up to call them on that bs, but little did I know they legitimately took 4k off the sticker and got me out of the negative equity from my Accord. Never thought I'd own a brand new vehicle, but 2.74% over 60 months is extremely doable. Sometimes shit just comes together

People exaggerate how much a locker is needed. You would have to be on some serious obstacles in order to need a locker and you would also need high clearance offroad bumpers, huge tires, and lots more. And the guys i know that do those obstacles, their trucks are all dented and scratched up. Only one time in about 3 years of offroading with my Sport would a locker been helpful. We was playing in desert sand dunes on very soft sand hills, and I got stuck. Perhaps with a locker I could have gotten out on my own, but a friend just quickly pulled me out. But besides that in 3 years of offroading on many sand dunes, many trails, and moderate rock crawling I've never needed a locker. Honestly most trails I dont even need 4wd unless its a hard steep incline, sand, or snow. And, people say lockers are great for mud but I just stay away from mud. I hate it. It dries hard like concrete and breaks sensors. Your truck is awesome. I love the Sport hood scoop, painted fender flares and front bumper, and Sport 17 inch wheels. However I hated the Sport suspension. Mine has a Bilstein 6112/5160 lift with 31 inch Wildpeaks and it rides great on and offroad.

For about a month, I was debating to get the TRD off-road, or the TRD sport. I’m in the same situation as you, although I live in Las Vegas, I usually stay in the city and hardly ever go out up the mountains. I do take long drives to California, Utah, Scottsdale, or nearby. They offered me an amazing deal on my 2021 TRD Sport 2WD, and i had a nice 2021 TRD Off-Road and a 2022 Off-Road. It took me so long to decide because I was breaking my head and how much I was actually going to use off-road. The few trails in the mountains away from Vegas I do go up here are not as steep or off road required, they’re a bit tough, but any car can make it up there.. so I figured evert when will I go hardcore off-roading? The deal I got for the ‘21 Sport 2WD was a steal so I drove out the lot with it. Like you, I’m happy with it. Amazing on the long desert road trips and cheaper on gas. I did get the long bed though which I was a bit iffy with since I wanted the short bed (looks nicer visually), but I’m sure one day I’m gonna use the bed and say “thank god I got the 6’ bed instead of the 5.

The nice thing about the manual is there is no gear hunting , the 3rd gen automatics are constantly searching for the right gear and it’s very annoying , if you do go with an automatic and it’s driving you nuts look into having the overland torque tune done , it costs around $400-$500, and it will give you better throttle response and it will eliminate that annoying gear searching
